Persimmon Providence Reviews from The Last Year
What a delightful, albeit pricey, dining experience.
My husband and I did the Chef's choice (5 course meal) with wine pairing. Everything, and I mean everything, was delicious. Ingredients were well paired and the presentation of each dish was beautiful. The experience reminded me of dining at tapas joints in Spain (with a sophisticated twist). Service was great. We had multiple servers- our main server, a wine server, etc. The only downside is the price: this is likely a destination restaurant (go here for a special event type joint) versus an every week type of joint.

Visiting from out of town so had no notion of what to expect from this spot and was very pleasantly surprised. The menu isn't so overwhelming as there are a lot of dishes I wasn't terribly interested in so easier to narrow down. Started with the oyster with uni and caviar- a flavorful way to start the night. Next was the ceasar salad which was a perfect balance of the ceasar sardine-flavoring, crunch from the breadcrumbs, and creaminess. The salmon belly tartare over crispy rice was outrageous: the warmth and bite of the rice and the fattiness of the salmon belly perfectly paired. Last minute ordered the croquettes, which were so creamy and a nice intermission. We were torn about the pasta and ultimately went with the black spaghetti, which I could've eaten by the bucket. Perfectly chewy spaghetti with the overall flavoring made for an amazing dish. The least impactful of the night was the pork shoulder, but even this was a lovely crisp of pork over well seasoned black eyed peas so was delightful. Finished off with the flan which was a delectable combination of traditional flan, fruit, and spiced ice cream. The only flaw of the night was the house special drink with the essence of milk, which was just extremely sweet and difficult to drink. The spot itself is pretty large, which was surprising for someone with a rotating menu, but wasn't overly loud or bothersome and there was very attentive service.
Love Providence
My son lives in Providence, RI and he and his wife are real foodies. They frequent this restaurant often and wanted me to try it since I was in town for a few days (I live six hours away). It was just as amazing as they always raved. I had the halibut, my son had the steak and his wife had the stuffed chicken breast. The food, the presentation and the wait staff in this restaurant are hard to beat. Recognizing that Providence has much to offer as far as restaurants, this one is definitely worth visiting. As a thank you for hosting me and showing me around, I will be buying a gift certificate for them to return to Persimmon. Definitely worth a visit!
Server attitude from beginning to end.
So loud you had to yell making great conversation impossible. Got home and my suit jacket smelled of fried food and had to send to be dry cleaned. Small bites = $$$. Go to Waterman Grille, Dolores, Aguardente or Mills Tavern instead. All will make you feel welcome and all have fabulous menu choices.
Acceptable but not outstanding
Providence has a vibrant culinary scene so our bar is pretty high. It has been years since this restaurant moved from Bristol to the old Rue space so we wanted to try it. They focus on small plates so the portions are not large and sharing is not really feasible. But our food was tasty. As in many places these days it was too noisy for my taste ( maybe a seat in the bar area would have been better). The service was OK as well but not exceptional. As I said our bar is pretty high but I am not sure we’ll return.9
Very nice restaurant in the east side of Providence.
Nestled in between historical houses and old trees. The inside is warm and cozy and clean. This place had amazing food and I loved how it was small plates that were reasonably price so you can try a lot of different items. I loved we had to eat, especially the black spaghetti and the croquettes. I also had an espresso martini which was tasty and a good pairing with the food. You also get complementary bread which was delicious. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Waiter was nice and attentive and knowledgeable on the menu

This is mainly a slightly cautionary tale for those planning on trying the tasting menu. Our son is a foodie. On his 18th birthday he asked to go to Persimmon for the tasting menu. It was pretty good! The courses were all perfectly sized, delicious and satisfying. It was very nice and the bill was not shockingly priced, though certainly not cheap. The only thing that was a little weird was, when my husband didn't finish the fish course, there was a bit of an interrogation by the server. Fast forward seven years, he wants to go again for the tasting menu for his 25th. That's this year. So, turns out it's a lot more expensive - understandable. More money doesn't imply the same or better quality. Let me tell you, the portions were almost amuse bouche sized, except for the pork belly, which was edible at best. Otherwise none of it was memorable in the least. But also, the whole table has to have it if one person is having it. Bottom line is, if my son thinks we're going back for his 30th, we are not. Oh, and also, the tasting menu is disappointing. . Service was fine though. No interrogations this time.
As a local, Persimmon has come to be my favorite special
As a local, Persimmon has come to be my favorite special occasion eatery. With their phenomenal drought cocktails, pair the croquettes or (best ever) deviled eggs. The black spaghetti is a dish I'd get double orders of, it's that good. And the desserts, particularly the seasonal ones, are lovely. Kevin is always so warm to greet us, and it is always a treat to sit in a cozy nook looking over Hope Street.
If you're looking for a small, quiet and somewhat romantic
If you're looking for a small, quiet and somewhat romantic restaurant for a special occasion, Persimmon may be just what you're looking for. They specialize in smaller plates with a changing menu. Food is excellent. Be sure to leave room for desert.

this place is amazing! the food is incredible and plated beautifully, and the servers are very kind and accommodating. had a bunch of allergies that were present across the menu and they were avoided without issue! would definitely recommend :)
Fabulous dinner at persimmon.
We did it family style with a bunch of apps, a fish entree, and then some shared pastas and desserts. Emma was a fantastic waitress guiding us through the menu and options. Really well worth the visit.

A few weeks ago we returned to dine here with friends from out of town. It's one of our favorite restaurants in Providence. The place, the food and the staff , Andrew R - are very welcoming. We ordered a range of food and drinks, starting with a margarita, Tullemore Dew, cardinal Sin and the curiously named penicillin. For food we shared deviled eggs, croquettes, and a salad. Followed by black spaghetti, lasagna, chicken and duck. We had a bottle of Pinot Noir. And ended with a tasty chocolate tart. One of the very few 5-star places in the city. Although an expensive meal ($80/head) it was worth it.
We loved the experience of Persimmon!! The pictures online
We loved the experience of Persimmon!! The pictures online really do not do it justice. It is nestled into a really cute neighborhood in Providence and the interior is very homey. Everything on the menu sounded delicious so we ordered a lot of things! Everything was amazing and we were really really impressed with everything we ordered, from drinks, apps, entrees, and desserts. This is probably the best food in all of Providence! My only complaint is that the dinner took a long long time, but because the food was so so so good, we didn't mind waiting. I would highly highly recommend!
Excellent as Expected
Persimmon came highly recommended so the bar was high. All four of us were delighted by our entree choices: duck, truffle risotto, scallops and pasta Bolognese. Going backwards, the honey nut squash soup was a superb starter. I loved my cocktail. Our waiter was experienced and personable. We also enjoyed the ambiance. And I’m a sucker for wide plank floors. A good place to mark my husband’s birthday!

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
