My bf brought me here for my birthday dinner and it was so,
My bf brought me here for my birthday dinner and it was so, so good! The restaurant is pretty small and intimate which we loved. Menu was straight forward and seasonal. Everything on the menu seemed to have an Asian influence to it. All the vendors are listed on the back of the menu and every vendor is local which is super cool! Lighting wasn't too dark and noise volume was perfect for conversation. We started off with the tuna and citrus and baked oysters. The baked oysters were served with butter miso and breadcrumbs and tasted so creamy. Salty but slightly sweet. The tuna with citrus was very light and had subtle flavors. Tuna texture was so smooth- not slimy or tough at all. Next, we got the salt and pepper quail and the ugly mushroom pasta. The salt and pepper quail was amazing- so many flavors that didn't overpower each other and worked perfectly together. The breading was light and wasn't greasy or heavy. Paired with pickle daikon, jalapeño and basil. Reminded me a lot of Taiwanese popcorn chicken! The mushroom filled pasta was highly recommended by our server and I can see why it's a staple on the menu. The dish was cooked perfectly Al dente and the flavors again worked so well together and wasn't overly mushroomy. The sauce was creamy with a slight sweetness to it. For the main course, we shared the black cod and this was cooked perfectly and melts in your mouth. The sauce had beans and baby carrots in it and the leafy greens were so interesting! We did wish this dish had more texture to it.For dessert, we got the milk snow and oat milk hot chocolate. The milk snow reminded me so much of Taiwanese ice cream burritos with the cilantro and nutty component. I love black sesame and the butterscotch gave it some texture. The hot chocolate wasn't sweet but paired with the marshmallow was the perfect amount of sweetness. I'm not a fan of marshmallows but the texture of this was so good and the flavors worked together well. My bf and I were worried we wouldn't get full from the dinner but we were stufffed! The service here was great- constantly checking in on how everything was tasting. Our top picks were the mushroom pasta and s+p quail but everything was honestly so yummy and I'm sure you can't go wrong with anything on the menu!
Be the first to ReplyReally fun experience and great food.
The setting is beautiful, everyone was super friendly and attentive. We started with the raw oysters which were delicious. I had the pasta with duck confit and was in absolute heaven the with every bite. My wife had the black cod and I honestly could not decide which plate was better. Everything was fantastic.
Be the first to ReplyThe vibes at Pomet are immaculate.
How did they make that grimy alley between the CVS parking lot and Piedmont feel cute and cozy? Idk, but they did. The first time I came here was for my birthday and my friend was a half hour late. Instead of making me feel shittier by "waiting for my party to arrive", they sat me at a table, made me feel super comfortable and welcome and I love them for that. The food is thoughtful and are ample portions. I find myself lying in bed after a visit to Pomet, wishing I'd ordered extra warm pretzel rolls with honey butter to eat in the morning. The other stand-outs on the current menu are the ugly mushroom pasta, which is handmade stuffed tubes with some crunchy accents and Shared Culture miso butter gives it a nice creaminess. The black cod with carrots, beans, and mustard greens is also not to be missed. I have yet to try a dessert option because I always go so buckwild on the starter and entrée menus that I never have room, but maybe next visit.

So this is an East Bay five stars. A remarkable finer dining experience is not as common as you'd think in the East Bay. Pomet fills this void with an elevated menu and a more formalized service. Execution was great. While prices are high and portions smaller, the food was prepared skillfully and service was exceptional. We were never without, yet the service team were stealth ninjas. They didn't take any attention away from our conversation and our focus on the food. The mushroom pasta was incredible. You will slurp the remaining sauce with a spoon, and no one will judge you, it's that good. The spinach pasta paled in comparison. We had similar sentiments with the mains: the duck was just so incredible that the short rib, while good, just couldn't keep up with the perfectly prepared duck. The pretzel roll priced at $7 is steep since it's legit for one person, maybe 2. The dessert: the almond torte was the winner and you'd be remiss if you didn't order it. Do it. The pound cake was solid, but not memorable and the mochi chocolate pudding puff was a rich bite; perfect for sharing. The service, as highlighted was so great. From water refills, to wine, they were on top of it. They auto add that 20% service fee and the team reminded us many times throughout the payment process. Overall, an incredible spot for a night out in the East Bay. The menu is a bit limited (they do have a few vegetarian options). Since our table of 4 ordered the majority of it, I hope they change their menu often enough so we can come again and experience some new dishes.
Be the first to ReplyThe service and ambience was excellent.
I think I was a little underwhelmed by the food because I kept expecting more by their beautiful plating! The spinach pasta sounded great at first, but it was too thick and the beef was a little chewy. For the potatoes, I'm not sure what the white sauce did with the grilled potatoes, but it's combination with what I think is chives did not go well together. AT ALL. The fish was grilled too much that the skin was hard -almost burned- and the opposite of crisp. Was a little disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent dining experience at Pomet.
Pomet certainly lives up to the highly complimentary SF Chron review that we read before making reservations! We were seated by the person we identified from the Chron photo as the owner, and received very attentive service from Stephen.I ordered the fresh market salad and both of us ordered the delectable ugly mushroom filled pasta. We later discovered that it was described as 'ugly' because they are 'imperfect' produce, which certainly didn't affect the flavor.Another server, Ubi, offered to take our photo when dessert was served, and patiently waited while we set up the photos that he took of us before I consumed every morsel of the Satsuma creamsicle pie. My friend tried two of their wines and I will leave her to describe them in her rave review. As we were leaving all of the staff whom we passed, including the cooks looking outward from the open kitchen, any server whom we passed, and the front desk staff all calling out "happy birthday" to me since we had made such a big deal of putting on tiaras and inserting candles in the dessert and taking pictures of our experience.I'll be back!

The mushroom pasta dish was great, as was the turnip w smoky pine nut sauce. Ambience was perfect. Service was top notch. A bit spendy, but well worth it.

Fantastic meal with phenomenal service every step of the way. Our party of 4 ate outdoors and the heat lamps and blankets were a nice touch. The food was delicious and unique. We appreciated the fresh fruit from their orchards and the recommendations from the staff really helped. Ugly mushroom pasta, all the dishes with duck, and the short rib were delicious. Loved the shaved ice with grilled Mochi and satsuma pie for desert also. Will be back - thank you! The warm welcome from the host was really appreciated after I was disappointed to discover CDP is now reservation and pre fixe menu only and I wasn't able to get a pre-dinner drink there.

Ate here for a late birthday celebration and it did not disappoint! By the end of the night, my partner and I were so filled. Potatoes were amazing - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, but honestly could go without it; we were just too full by the end. The Liberty Duck was so tasty and soft - one of the softest ducks I've tried. The short rib is a must! Amazing meat and great presentation. You can really taste the quality of the food.I don't typically go for fruits in a dessert but the pear eclair took it for me. Perfect blend of sweet & savory. The hot chocolate was so decadent too - the marshmallow was homemade and they added a twist of cinnamon which was a nice touch. We ended the night with a complimentary persimmon (forgot to photo) grown from their own farm and it was the sweetest and juiciest persimmon I've tried in my life.Overall a great experience & would go back again.

Mmmm good food! Great ambiance! Ample parking! Pomet is on a street with a lot of cool restaurants and shops in Oakland. There's street parking but also a large parking lot behind it although some spaces can feel a little cramped.Inside, the servers are very attentive and polite while offering suggestions on their menu. The food is good!Grilled market lettuce - nice mix of flavors 4/5Roasted oysters - nice sauce and crunchy flakes with the oyster. 4/5 Ugly mushroom pasta - absolutely delicious with a rich mushroom flavor and sauce. 5/5Black cod - they ran out of cod so put tuna instead but it was very tender. 4/5Spare rib - rich and tender. The salty black beans were strange to have on the side but the sauces and vegetables went well with it. 5/5Orange creamsicle pie - not that much of a citrus flavor but still ok... though maybe more due to nostalgia for orange creamsicle popsicles 4/5Pistachio cake - really good 5/5
Be the first to ReplyA beautiful experience from beginning to end.
The food was like nothing I've ever had before, perfectly prepared, flavorful to the point of decadent- transcendent. The owner is down to earth, warm and welcoming. Can't wait to go back

We were excited to find out about Pomet and the food and experience did not disappoint! We came as a group of four on a Saturday night for an early dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and the vibe is great! We ordered a bunch of things to share, including the oysters, the halibut, the smoked potatoes (+trout roes) and the quail for appetizers. Then we ordered both pastas (ugly mushroom and duck confit), two mains (duck breast and short rib), and two desserts (almond cheesecake and peanut butter miso cake). There wasn't a single dish we didn't like! Some highlights:Halibut: very lovely dish for summer time! Fish was fresh, and the cucumbers and peaches complimented the taste very well.Fried Quail: crispy, tender and flavorful!Ugly mushroom pasta: love the mushroom and the crunches! Pasta was perfectly cooked.Duck Breast: cooked to perfection and great balance of flavors. The skin was crispy.Short rib: the black bean flavor was a creative thought and worked well!We also shared two bottles of wine which were both very good, and ended up with $115 per person - not bad for all the great food and wine we got! I would recommend this place for a small group friend gathering or a date!
Be the first to ReplyWe've been waiting to come for a while and finally got in.
Interesting and innovative food. But Omigoodness, such fatty food - literally puddles of fat left on the plate from some lamb chops and the delicious ugly mushroom pasta. The former was literally 99% fat and while we did mention it and they were certainly pleasant enough, we did pay $20 for inedible fat.I am glad we tried Pomet finally but at $100 per head for a meh meal and wine - which was shared btw, I think we'll be supporting the other neighborhood joints on Piedmont Ave...
Be the first to ReplyIncredible! Everything.
The trout salad was perfectly dressed and flavorful, with fresh delicious veggies/fruits all around.I hadn't had quail since I was a kid but their version here was scrumptious. The short rib and ugly mushroom pasta were equally as worthy of being on the menu.
Be the first to ReplyFood is great.
Portions are small. Price is huge. Glad they took over homestead. Dining outdoors in an alley a plus.

My husband & I came here for our anniversary dinner and absolutely loved it! The food was DELICIOUS - every dish had such wonderful flavor, fresh ingredients, and I loved the Asian influence that was subtly and expertly fused in. The service was great, very attentive, and the timing of each dish was great too - we never had to wait long between each course. For appetizers, we got the oysters, trout and avocado toast (my fav - so creamy and full of umami). For the main course, we ordered the duck noodles and black cod. Both were delicious but the black cod was definitely the star. For dessert, we got the fruit cocktail cake which was basically an Asian fruit cream cake (essentially a sponge cake with light cream and fruit chunks between the layers). I found it a little dry but the glass of sauterne helped me wash it down :P Lastly, with the check we were offered two slices of the most delicious peach I've ever tasted. There were so many different things on the menu that I wanted to try; can't wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyPomet was great! The food was delicious and creative.
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. There were people who were dressed up but also some were dressed casually. The menu really highlights would ever produce his fresh in seasonal. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Taking residence in the old Homestead location, this Farm to Table gem is not to be overlooked or taken lightly. The Black Cod was a standout and Wifey (the Potato Queen) gave her mark of approval. Definitely a worthy spot for a nice dinner.

Had to make a last minute change in plans and was able to secure reservations a week prior at Pomet, with a $25/pp deposit on Tock. Booked purely due to the menu offerings and photos on Yelp. Only after dining last night did I read the owners/chefs have their hands in farming! Amazing! No wonder there were so many fresh elements of interesting produce! Looks like they have only been in operation for a few months.Beautiful open airy space with all the warm wood touches and fresh floral arrangements. There is an alleyway with outdoor seating. Service is very attentive and kind. Water service throughout - filtered flat or sparkling. The main hostess came by a few times to check in on how we were enjoying the food. Loved:-salt/pepper quail, juicy tender on the inside and the batter and flavor of the crust - incredible, almost shrimp chip like and the Thai basil - genius -macfarland trout, cold, cured, varied textures and balanced -cake with plums - moist and light Good but wouldn't order again:-beef tartare, needed some brightness to cut the rich pine nuts -duck pasta, personal preference, for the creamy pasta loversImprovement:-crudo - beautiful fish but didn't think the melon complimented At the end of the meal there were complimentary mouth watering wedges of plums from the owner's orchard!Great wines by the glass. The Pinot Noir from SB is preferable to the French. Surprisingly easy to find parking in the area. This is definitely an establishment I would return to again and again. The food is beautiful, approachable, but definitely not techniques or ingredients the average person has access to. Looking at the menu last night versus what is posted online, menu changes often. Look forward to many more meals here in the future. What a shining star in Oakland.
Be the first to ReplyObsessed, best meal I've had in a long time, and amazing
Obsessed, best meal I've had in a long time, and amazing service - the owner even stopped by! Can't believe this place is only 3 months old, they seem so buttoned up. We had wine (great list!), apps (i wanted to drink the halibut crudo sauce), pasta (my fav dish was ugly mushroom - omg so so so good, literally almost ordered more), cod, and dessert (not a cheesecake fan but the almond cheesecake was so delicious and light and fluffy). We'll be back soon!!
Be the first to ReplySo Pomet has been on my radar since it opened; we finally
So Pomet has been on my radar since it opened; we finally made it and it was an enjoyable experience. The decor is very chic. I liked the open kitchen, color schemes and the leather chairs. The drink list is thoughtful and has something for everyone without being too busy. In general I found that there was a huge focus on the ingredients and you can really appreciate (and taste) it in the food. The absolute star was the beef tartare; it was down to perfection; the sesame oil really added a nice touch and made it unique. The quail also shined bright; offering a very crispy yet juicy taste. We also tried the trout; it was paired with avocado and fruit, I liked the dish, but it could use a little extra hit of taste. We tried both pastas, the ugly mushroom was delicious and had a beautiful blend of textures. The duck confit may not be for everyone, but I liked it personally, despite the very salty taste. The duck itself was impeccable. For dessert we tried the miso chocolate cake; and you can never go wrong with that. I was thinking more 4.5 stars but I'm in a good mood so 5 it is! Service could have been a little more attentive, but it was better than most restaurants in the Bay Area. Verdict: We would return!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was excellent, the service was prompt, friendly
The food was excellent, the service was prompt, friendly and helpful (including spot-on recommendations for wine pairing with our orders). We were also graciously provided with excellent complementary champagne that paired perfectly with also-complementary peach halves for our 28th anniversary! HOWEVER, the loud, constant mechanical hum (perhaps from the exhaust hood or ventilation system) put a serious damper on what would have otherwise been a lovely, relaxing dining experience. (Interestingly, as we were leaving, I found that the hum was not audible in the very front of the restaurant near the door. There are a couple of tables there, so those are the ones to sit at!)The Food: We split an order of Beef Tartare, which was wonderful. The quality of the beef was superb, and the chef lets that shine through; there were other ingredients, such as matchsticks of Asian pear, but the beef was the star. It was accompanied with a sort of buckwheat nori, which was pretty good and certainly unusual; I felt it neither added to nor detracted from the tartare. 5/5I ordered the ugly mushroom filled pasta for my main dish. It was very good, made with three types of mushrooms, plus fresh peas and a luxurious sauce. The pasta was cooked truly al dente. My only complaint was that the sauce, though good, was somewhat dominant flavor-wise; which made the dish a bit on the one-note side. 4/5My wife ordered the duck confit noodles, which included a light coating of panko-like (or maybe it actually was panko) crumbs. I actually preferred this dish to mine; then again, my wife preferred my dish, so there you go. The confit was superb, the crumbs provided a wonderful texture variant, and the whole thing was just delicious. 5/5
Be the first to ReplyGreat service.
The food is very meh. There's not a dish I'd come back for, and we had the favorites. The salad was a typical seasonal Bay Area salad - minus flavor. The avocado trout dish - bland. Fried potatoes may have been the best dish, and that's not a good thing. Duck - bland. Short rib was good but look, it's short rib. Really hard to mess up - just don't serve the overdone bits. I do wonder if the chef wasn't around - everything was just extremely under seasoned. On Piedmont - wolf and commis (at the bar) are better bets at this price. I want them to do well. They won't based on what we had. :(I'll boost my stars after a month. Just want the owners to see this. But if u see my history, I don't leave bad reviews. I think that the shortage of reviews this early on is that people don't want to be hard on a local place. I don't either, but I also want them to make it. They won't with this food.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a nice neighborhood restaurant where folks come in
This is a nice neighborhood restaurant where folks come in suits or in tshirts. Dining in or outside both lovely spaces. Service was very good they do a good job with sauces and flavor balancing. Carrot date starter: has sunflowers and a sunflower purée and the sweet of the carrots and dates was a perfect match Ours had a single thin date slice. I asked the waiter about that and he said that was not normal and brought a dish of dates for us to add Trout with avocado, peach and citrus was also well married Ugly mushroom ravioli with peas. This was good. It was sweeter than I expected and I'm not sure why. Might be that some of the slices on top that I thought were mushrooms were actually a fruit of some kind. Pasta itself good. Short ribs: this was the one thing that made us say the price was high. $40 and 4 slices of meat. That might have been ok if we liked the dish better. Short ribs are most often stewed and therefore lean. This was medium rare and so not lean. The sauces (2) with it were good. Overall the dish was ok. Dessert: peanut butter chocolate miso cake was great. Orange creamsicle merengue pie was as advertised. Using orange instead of lemon means it's sweeter overall. The merengue was good. Bathroom grade : A. One gender neutral single serve room. They have cleaning supplies stored in here but it's pretty so you don't feel like you are in a supply closet. Nice reusable towels and good soap. Air purifier running.
