It's worth it!
I had my doubts. This place is right by the LA Flower Market and in Skid Row. Homeless and tents all over the place. The old Cecil Hotel is visible from the parking lot. HOWEVER, this place is worth it. This was simply some of the best, most delicious and authentic southern food I have had outside of the Deep South. The staff are polite, attentive and friendly. The restrooms are clean. There really is a reason this place comes up as one of the best restaurants in LA. I would not hesitate to venture to the other side of the tracks to enjoy a meal at Poppy & Rose again. If you go, the biscuits and gravy with a side of grits.....to die for! Enjoy!!
Be the first to ReplyGood food - Loud atmosphere
Went with friends for lunch. Parking can be an issue but I was able to find street parking. My friends ordered salads and they said the salads were very good. I ordered chicken wings and a side green salad. My two wings were nine dollars. They were fried and seasoned well but not very crispy. The ambient noise was so loud that it was hard to hold a conversation.

A nice gem lively atmosphere great brunch spot in the middle of the โmessโ that is flower market and homeless central But the word is out and the wait reflects a good spot. Great cocktails, rose mojito, and southern twist. Food is good, service is good. Worth a visit for something different.

The chicken and waffles are legit! Everyone is super nice. We've been here 3 separate times over the years and they never disappoint.
Be the first to ReplySouthern brunch spot in the Flower District
Southern spot with patio seating on a rooftop in DTLA. Came here with a friend for breakfast on a Saturday at 9:45am. Made a reservation online beforehand. Thereโs a 15 minute grace period if youโre running late. They have garage parking at 742 Maple Ave and itโs $4 with validation (cash only). Otherwise, note that the street meters on Maple Ave were $5/hour (except Sundays.). Credit cards accepted. They were unfortunately out of matcha that morning, but they do have coffee and mimosas. I got the fried chicken Benedict and my friend got the pulled pork hash. The portion sizes are larger than I was expecting. The fried chicken was tender, and the Benedict was actually on a biscuit rather an English muffin. They have single use utensils at the tables. Note on the restrooms - youโll either have to try to find the first floor of the restaurant, or if you take the stairs like me, youโll somehow end up on the street. Youโll make an immediate right and youโll be in the california flower market, which has public restrooms. Overall, itโs a cute spot for brunch.
Be the first to ReplyOnce but not twice
Honestly, very disappointed. On social medias and even here, this place looks fabulous. But first, we wanted to eat outside so we asked for a table on the terrace. It was literally on a parking! So if you want to go there, donโt eat outside. Moreover the district is awful and very scary. Then, the food is okay, nothing extraordinary honestly and this is pricey. Not worth it. The waiter was not even nice, just polite and there was nothing special for Easter. You want an advice? Donโt go there.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, poor service.
Really delicious food. Poor service. I ate here last weekend, and had a delicious meal. However the service definitely let them down, admittedly they were busy but staff were un-attentive and didnโt communicate well. Having queued for a table (no issue there) I was seated and had to ask twice for some water and a menu. The ordering process was slow and anytime I wanted a refil or something I had to grab the attention of a staff member who then said they couldnโt help as they were busy and ask someone else. While the food was incredible the service just lacked

Words cannot explain how bad I wanted to visit this place!
I didn't know about this place until 1-2 days before, and I noticed reservations were all booked up.
I wanted somewhere nice to stop for brunch before getting to the airport to leave our vacation.
I never do this, but I took a chance and just went there to see what would happen and would you know we waited one minute or less for our table and we're seated almost immediately!!
I was so happy!
Very interesting how you enter, order and pay in advance.
Tip and all.
We did it, we know how to follow rules but it was still different to us.
The guy (Margo) we had was very kind.
We ordered a couple orders of Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffle Platters as well as the Lumberjack Pancake Breakfast and Steak & Eggs. I took a chance on the Limeade Blackberry beverage.
Everything came out magnificently good! It was worth every penny, every tip, any monetary amount you can think of!
Visiting this Black Owned Business that's highly rated on Yelp before leaving LA put a huge smile on my face and I would definitely return back when visiting Cali as well as recommend to everyone that'll listen.
Not impressed.
Brought my family here for breakfast who were visiting from out of town because I had heard good things about it. The food was good but the service was terrible. They messed up my mom's order and they forgot my niece's drink. They never came to refill our waters, and the service was slow considering the place was not busy because we had a 9am reservation. I'm going to blame the service on Covid19 because I hear that its been hard on restaurants to find food help since reopening, but I'm on the fence as to weather I will return.
Be the first to ReplyNice restaurant in the Flower District of LA
Went for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon. The parking and check in process is a bit odd but once you know it's ok. You park on the roof and the patio is on the roof; however, you have to walk down three flights of stairs to check in on the first floor and down the street from the parking garage. After ordering, you can go back to the roof patio if you want to eat outside. We decided to eat downstairs in the restaurant. My friend and I ordered Cobb salads and our other friend ordered the waffle and chicken. We all enjoyed our meals and would order the same thing again. The only negative was the the Arnold Palmer that I ordered was really weak and watered down. Don't forget to get your parking ticket validated--the fee will be $3. with the validation. Service was excellent, Would go back if in the area.
Be the first to ReplyI wouldnโt wait more than 15 mins for a table here
We brunched here on January 1st when many places were closed for the holiday including the flower market across the street. I heard Poppy + Rose gets especially busy when the market is open - be forewarned. There was a line when we arrived since you can't write your name down if waiting for a table. Upside about it was, there were only 5 groups ahead of us. Downside was, despite the many available tables, they didn't have enough staff. When it's your turn, you get called in to the counter to order and pay before getting seated. Make sure you ask for the menu while in line so you don't feel rushed when the time comes to order.
The Scramble was a good choice. It hit all the points I was craving for brunch without feeling heavy with a side salad and only a piece of toast to accompany it. To be honest, I thought their Chicken and Waffles was missing a certain something special. I also ordered a cappuccino but had I known before paying that there was a check-in offer for free a cup of joe, I would have stuck with that.
It's a shame when people rave about a place and get you all excited only to walk out asking yourself, "Why do people wait in line to eat here??"
The Fried Chicken Waffle place
The Fried Chicken Waffle place to go to I DT LA.
Friendly service, good food, fair prices. Cosy and clean.
The acoustics and toilets are not nice, but thatโs the only minuses.
I had the avocado toast, a cappuccino and a cucumber lemonade - very delicious.
(And tasted the fried chicken waffle - was really good too)
Delightful organic restaurant by flower market LA
Lovely organic restaurant right in the heart of the flower market. Great food and good service. Just right after walking round and seeing all the beautiful flowers!
Be the first to ReplyWeekend visit 1 hour time
The food here is good. Visited on Saturday and hade a 20 minute wait outside the restaurant. There was always a line from about 11-1 that we were there. Once we ordered it was only about 10 minutes to wait for the food. Spent about $65 for two people which is not a value at all.
Parked at a near by parking lot for $5. Lots of homeless in the area and the fowl stench is off putting. Bathrooms for the restaurant are by code so ask your server for the door number. Glad I tried it, but it didnโt wow me enough to pay their prices again.
Great hidden gem
THIS is the place to be! Talk about hidden gems and holes in the wall, if you don't already know about this place then you probably would never see it! Hidden in the arts district, Poppy + Rose is a very very classy restaurant for the area. And it is a guarantee that you will be waiting in line for at least 20 minutes if you go during peak hours on the weekends! Seems like my fellow Angeleno's know as good as I do how good of food this place has. And by good, I mean excellent, they literally have all of their own original recipes, not to mention the customer service is always top quality.

Did not live up to itโs good reviews. Wasnโt horrible, wasnโt anything special. The highlife was the wonderful smell of all the fresh cut flowers. The parking meters only provide 25 minutes - so beware!
