Be the first to ReplyThis is The BEST restaurant on EARTH.
You cannot tell me any different. It feels like walking into your grandmothers house in Italy. I LOVE IT here!!!! Many regulars nightly ~ a bit expensive ~ but when the food and service is THIS GOOD, I can't complain. It's phenomenal. They are the best. The place is classy and the crowd is mature. I'm only 30, but I LOVE me a place like this ~ exactly how I like it - no patrons bothering you at the bar and everyone is here with family or significant other. The music is low so you can hear your conversation. I recommend for sure!!!!

I'd like to start by establishing that I downloaded Yelp just to write this review so please stay with me here. My family and I (my sister, my aunt and uncle, my mom, my grandparents, and my 6-year-old cousin) had a 6:45 reservation tonight. My mom, my sister, and I walked in a few minutes late. There was no hostess there to help us and we were standing in the middle of the restaurant for several minutes waiting for someone to seat us, but we couldn't get the attention of the several members of the waitstaff who walked past us. When the rest of our party walked in, the owner of the restaurant finally noticed us and immediately started screaming at us. "6:45 is not 7:00!" he yelled irreverently. The volume of his voice began to draw the attention of other diners who then started to stare at us and whisper about us. Once again, we were only a few minutes late to check in for our reservation and around 5 additional minutes passed while we were waiting for someone to even acknowledge our arrival. We finally got seated and we were not given any menus. We asked the owner, who seated us, for menus and then heard him tell our waiter, "That's a complicated table. Get them menus," meaning that the people at the surrounding tables could also hear this comment. At this point I would like to point out that almost all of the diners here were white, older adults and we were the only family of color eating at the restaurant. It was very difficult to get our waiter's attention throughout the meal and, although our appetizers came out relatively quickly, the entrรฉes took around 45 minutes to come after the appetizers were cleared (the whole meal took 2.5 hours). When we would request share plates or an additional item off the menu, the waiter would come over and then leave before my uncle could even finish his sentence. The tables around us did not seem to be having the same issues that we did. I'll conclude by saying that although the food was good, it was not at all worth the awful, humiliating experience we had regarding the service at Primola; I can think of several Italian restaurants on the Upper East Side with food just as good (if not better) that would never let something like this slide. I understand that it was a Saturday night and they were very busy, but this was just downright disrespectful. The desserts were comped but we received no formal apologies.
Be the first to ReplyWe were 6 people, and on time for our reservation.
From the moment we were seated we were extremely rushed. The order was wrong for one of our friends. They overbooked and it was crowded. We asked for spinach, they said it would take too long. When we said we would wait, they had it there is 3 minutes. We had things removed from the table before we finished eating, on each course. They never gave us plates and forks for our dessert. Basically, they wanted us out of there so the could turn over the table. Terrible experience, won't go back, Expensive and smaller portions. Tension from the moment we walked in. There were other tables that walked out, we should have!!!!!!

Great food. An old school mentality of putting the customer first. Classico restaurant and service
Be the first to ReplyHad a great diner at Primola.
It is "old school", but (a) the service is fantastic; (b) the food is very good; (c) there is a lot of variety (lots of specials); and they will accommodate any reasonable request. The ambiance and lighting could do with a little sprucing up - but we had a fantastic dinner all in all.

Food is good but let the buyer beware of items that do not appear with prices on the menu. I was charged $20 for a bottle of Peroni beer and $65 for a "MP" small piece of "Dover Sole" that did not include any side dish along with it. Unless you are prepared to be price gouged, do not be afraid to ask the waiter prices of food and beverage items that do not appear on the menu, before ordering.

Very authentic Italian restaurant in New York that we were referred to by a couple different friends. Food was wonderful, service was top notch and the atmosphere is quant and quiet. We arrived early and had show tickets, so we ordered quickly needing to be in and out in about an hour. We were seated immediately, with reservations, and were out in 35-40 minutes. They were so effecient with everything. Would go back if visiting NY again.

My husband and I were walking by right when they opened at 5pm in the middle of the week so decided we wanted to go in and try it. Every single table was open - literally we were the only ones in the restaurant. The hostess looked us up and down and said there was no room for us but would ask the owner. She made us stand there waiting for 10 minutes and refused to seat us - even at the bar or outdoor tables! We said we'd happily be in and out in an hour but they looked at us like we were crazy. The owner clearly did not care if he got our business or not.
Be the first to ReplyLove this quiet but busy spot on UES.
Wonderful and accommodating service. Good menu with nicely prepared dishes. Oysters orregonata, pasta primavera, lobster fra diavalo, coffee and biscotti delicious.
Be the first to ReplyUnfriendly staff.
They rushed us out. My pasta was uncooked and had to be returned. They prepared it again, but that is inexcusable .

Arrogant and rude owner/host serves up major attitude with substandard food. Do yourselves a favor and eat at any other UES Italian restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyTruly classic ambiance.
Almost stereotypical, classic above casual Italian restaurant.Plenty of indoor seating, some outdoor tables.Exceptional service.Breadsticks, focaccia and antipasti on the table while perusing the menu.Quick with water/drinks.Exceptional service.Kitchen turnaround times border on clairvoyance.Dined with 5 people, 3 made their pounded veal chop parmigiana disappear without a trace. The paillard with light salad of arugula, walnuts and chestnuts was deliciously magical. The chicken pounded so thin you could almost watch television through it, and cut it with a harsh glare.Seasoned with simple precision. A plate of spinach gnocchi for the table. The pasta was light and has a perfect tooth. But, a bit overpowered by tomato sauce and cheese.Simple dessert of berries and fresh unsweetened whipped cream. However repetitive, it's necessary to reaffirm - service is exceptional.
Be the first to ReplyIt is not a cheap night out, but worth every penny.
From the first class service to the delicious food, Primola is a place for fine dining with family or friends. Cocktails, shared appetizers, wine, small pasta plates on request for first course (primi), excellent meats, fish and poultry for main course (secondi), shared sides and of course after dinner aperitif with some dessert.Primola is an experience catered to by excellent staff.

Top notch Italian, welcoming staff, and longtime establishment that consistently brings 5 star food and service to Manhattan. The owner is a true gem. If you haven't been, you must! Highly recommend :)

Be the first to Replymy husband and i had a reservation and when we arrived
my husband and i had a reservation and when we arrived there were many tables available and they said that they would put us in a table in the corner. I said I requested one of the other ones and they were very rude they were talking to each other in Italian and looking at me. a waiter passed by with food and I apologize for being in the way I'm getting such a look which was very rude I was talking to the maรฎtre d' explaining the problem and he was sarcastic and he said well what do you want me to do for you I said I have a reservation he said well there's nothing I can do you can only have that table in the corner. I asked the bartender who is extremely nice is there anyone here who isn't rude besides you? I also asked him if you can please give me the name and number of the owner of the restaurant to which he answered you just spoke to him he was a maรฎtre d'. I have heard many complaints about Primol over the years but wanted to try it myself. What a disappointment. Owner is arrogant and very unwelcoming and did not care if I was satisfied or not. I would highly recommend not going to this restaurant. We ended up going a few blocks away to a restaurant called Mediterranea and the owner was so welcoming and nice. The food was outrageously delicious. I would definitely recommend going there.Primola is a very stuffy place. when We passed by after dinner is still empty tables.
Be the first to ReplyThe owner of this establishment is beyond rude.
My first experience here we were literally screamed at by the owner to pay our check and leave. We assumed this was due to the stress of covid and decided to return a year later to give it another chance. We had a wonderful waiter but once again the owner proved to be beyond nasty and we were again spoken to and treated in a disgusting manner.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Italian restaurant.
Our table had several chicken dishes and an eggplant dish, all were well prepared. The service was patient and friendly. The cappuccino also gets a thumbs-up. The staff did not check for vaccine compliance as required.

No table we're removed thus very tight. Owner not wearing mask. Several of the servers masks were down. I felt very uncomfortable
