I came back once again for some of my favs yesterday
I came back once again for some of my favs yesterday evening and again, I don't think I could ever be disappointed with the SMASH Burger. It was just as good, if not even better this time around. How is that possible? The Brussels I had for an appetizer might be the best Brussels I've had in my life. The chocolate mousse for dessert was absolutely delectable, rich and flavorful. I really enjoy having Primrose as a local staple!

Went to Primrose for the first time for Sunday brunch and loved loved loved my French toast. The restaurant is also gorgeous and I appreciated the decor.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful and very good.
We had the Shawarma chicken and the brussels sprouts. Also, have a lovely wine. The ambience is fantastic, the service is wonderful, the food is delicious, and the ability to relax is unprecedented.

Primrose is the perfect spot in DC for brunch with girls! They have great music, drinks hit the spot, and food is delicious. Let's not forget how attentive the staff is and the service! Excellent group of people. Please note, they already add 20% gratuity to your check. I had some cappuccino, side of fruits and latkes. I would definitely return here again!

Ambiance was good and wait staff attentive but the rockfish (portion size and flavoring) didn't blow me away (cauliflower appetizer was excellent) and the wine pours seemed light considering the cost. Considering the 20% service fee that doesn't go to the waitstaff, I don't consider this a good value. Maybe we'll give them another try in a few months.

The food was decent & the ambiance was great. Our hostess & waitress were courteous, personable, and polite. It wasn't until towards the end of our meal that our experienced became uncomfortable & very disturbing. I decided to order a nightcap. Service was kind of slow all night, so i didnt think anything when it took a little longer than "normal" to get my glass of wine. At some point a very curt and unapologetic employee by the name of Chris approached our table and attempted to explain (while fumbling over his words as if he was searching for an explanation) that the last call for drinks was 10:15pm, albeit i ordered my drink before that time. He stated that our waitress just approached him about the drink. I asked why was i being penalized because he just received my order. He stated that they were a neighborhood restaurant and was settling down. Keep in mind, the place had at least 20 patrons or more still enjoying the beverages. I let it go! It wasnt until i saw the table nestled in the corner with 6 or more caucasian patrons receive what appeared to be "shots". I immediatedly called chris over and requested an explanation. He explained those were desert wines they ordered a long time ago & had to be chilled. I asked him repeatedly did they order before 10:15pm. He stated yes. So i repeatedly stated that i ordered my wine before that time, and asked what was the difference in our orders. chris expressed a clear indifference to my frustration. We spent a good amount that included an automatic 20 percent tip. We were mindful & polite patrons the entire time in the establishment. The only difference i saw in the situation was the color of everyones skin. Those patrons that received their chilled desert wines at approximately 10:47pm (yes i purposely noticed the time) were caucasian and i was among the handful of Black patrons in the restaurant. chris is rude with an obvious bias for persons that spend money at primrose.SN: i chuckled when he thought he had to point out that primrose was a neighborhood restaurant. lowercase chris i am fully aware of that!!! Get this chris i grew up in that neighborhood!!!!. Lived there for over 20 years guess what else lowercase chris...i even went to Saint Anthonys 2 blocks away....can you imagine . This is my first and only experience feeling this kind of discomfort in an area restaurant. I informed chris i will be sure to share my experience not only here but every social media platform/professional, networking, and social setting!!!! Don't judge people chris. We know the city is gentrified, but treat everyone fairly....especially when we are spending the same green money. Next time ill stick with Brooklyn's Finest. DC is filled with great restaurants that dont show bias or discriminate....but ill make sure everyone knows about the one that employs persons that do so willfully & cheerfully.

Whenever we have friends or family visiting from out of town, Primrose is our go-to. It's the perfect combination of a friendly neighborhood restaurant, fine dining, and chill cocktail spot. We love the recent additions to the dinner menu, and a recent brunch with 8 of us was spot on. We are so happy to have Primrose in the neighborhood! Also want to add - one of my favorite things about Primrose is that I never feel rushed. So many restaurants in DC want to get you in and out as quickly as possible. At primrose I feel like I can actually relax and enjoy a night out.
Be the first to ReplyThe vibe and ambiance were excellent.
The food was ok. Friends who we were there with remarked their brunch experience had been better. The cauliflower with nouc mam, feta and herbs were so delicious- best thing I tried! I was also pleased the bartender made me a cocktail and it was spot on. I would try again for brunch when I visit DC next.

How people don't know that their burger is $12 for HH is crazy! This was my first restaurant in DC when I officially moved 4 years ago. Love the decor and great service. I've loved them ever since. The ambiance is on point. Good cocktails and I really enjoy their beet salad (if you like beets!). Thanks, primrose!
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance, French fusion type decor and menu options.
Caving into the Mac n cheese temptation was worth it. The breadcrumbs were not overwhelming and the cheese was nice and gooey. I ordered the bronzino over broccolini instead of a lentil and although the fish was nicely cooked with flaky skin, the broccolini was the best! It was spicy and zesty. Great for large groups, intimate and solo diners. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating in a quiet neighborhood. Not too loud.

This is a top notch spot for brunch! The food is incredibly delicious and the ambience is cool! I am a huge fan of the smoked salmon egg Benny, French toast, and bacon. The smoked salmon egg Benny was everything I expected from a smoked salmon Benedict. The salmon tasted fresh, the egg Benedict was perfectly cooked with the right amount of runny yolk, and the salad that came with the dish was also fresh with tasty dressing. The French toast was one of the best French toasts I've ever had because of not only the massive size, but because it was perfectly fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The fresh fruit on top was an added bonus. Don't skip the bacon here. The thick cut bacon was A-1 from its size and tenderness. The staff members are super nice and helpful. I did have trouble with getting a new mug because of lip stick stains. But the staff eventually sorted it out. Overall I'll be back. Great spot!
Be the first to ReplyMust say that we were very disappointed in our brunch
Must say that we were very disappointed in our brunch experience today. Took my wife for her birthday brunch and the food and service were not up to the high marks our friends had shared when they recommended we go here. We ordered the Salmon Benny and the Pork Hash plus a Bloody Mary and a Mimosa. As you see from the pics, the chef can't cook a poached egg, let alone two of them. I would have sent the food back but no one ever came to ask how our food was. On top of this, we never got the biscuits with honey butter we ordered and had to ask to remove it from the bill. They apologized for the biscuits, but considering there was a $15 service fee already tacked onto the check, the meal was definitely not worth the $99 it cost us. There are so many good brunch spots in DC, unfortunately Primrose isn't one of them.

I would have loved to love the food and service, but had an overall "just fine" experience. The restaurant itself was open, airy, very cute. The menu's great, and the special which was a tempura fried soft shell crab banh mi sounded amazing. I chose instead the decadent croque madame because per the menu they used mortadella. Yum, right??? The croque madame was pretty good, but the meat was ham (maybe a fancier ham?); no mortadella. That's right! No mortadella. It's always a let down when you end up with something a little off from your expectations. I hope next time they double-check the menu or tell the customer if the item is different than described. The salad was very good, the breakfast potatoes, cold. The biscuits were just fine, too, if not small-ish tho!

This place is a gem tucked away in a neighborhood which is nice because it cuts out the city noise. Since it's in a neighborhood, you're not driving around for 20 minutes looking for parking. The decor is a total vibe and the food is great. But there are a couple of things that's making me give this place 4 out of 5 stars. Upon arriving, I was confused since there wasn't a sign for the restaurant but because it was the only restaurant in neighborhood (there were literally just houses surrounding it), I took a chance and walked in. Turns out, there was a sign, painted on the floor in front of the door lol. What an unusual spot to place the restaurant name. The floor was brick and the name was painted red so it blended in with the floor. Once inside, there wasn't a hostess stand so I just kind of stood there awkwardly looking around, trying to see if I could catch anybody. Luckily I didn't have to awkwardly stand there long, a gentleman approached and got me and my friends seated. The waiter greeted us right away, then got us water and that was probably the only time we got top notch service. For the rest of our time there, it was us trying to see where she is and trying to get her attention for service. Our French Toast also came out without the maple syrup (you can see it missing in the pic) and by the time we got our waiter attention, we were 3/4 done with the french toast already.

Pretentious yet clueless wait staff. Nothing to see here. Move along.
Be the first to ReplyI've been eyeing this place for quite some time for brunch
I've been eyeing this place for quite some time for brunch and dinner, so I got my sisters to join me for a sunday funday brunch. When we arrived, there was no host stand so we were a bit confused on where to go and who to approach to get seated. So, we headed to the bar and inquired. We were told to wait outside/near the door, which was a bit awkward, but we were seating rather fast, so it was no biggie. We opted for a mimosa pitcher and coffee to get the brunch started. The pitcher poured 5 glasses worth (it was 3 of us so it worked out fine) as promised by our server. The champagne to orange juice ratio was solid. They do offer other juice options as well, pineapple and maybe cranberry juice, if I'm not mistaken. On to the food! We each ordered something different on the menu in the spirit of planning to eat off each other's place, so why not! We placed an order for the Shrimp and Grits, Smoked Salmon Eggs Benny, Jalapeno Cheddar Smash Sando, and a side of bacon. It took about 35/45 minutes for the food to come out, but we were busy chatting away, so we didn't notice the timing at first. But then 2 dishes arrived, missing others so that's when we asked about the rest. The Shrimp and Grits were your standard brunch dish, there wasn't any wow factor that made it a standout dish. It had the smoked sausage which is always a plus and the grits themselves were nice and thick. You could go wrong with an eggs benny, but Primrose did not disappoint. From the savory biscuit, flavorful hollandaise, this was a solid dish as well.Soon after these two dishes came out, so did the bacon. We got 3 nicely crisped, thick bacon pieces. Need I say more? Who doesn't love bacon on the side. Now, the Jalapeno Cheddar Smash Sando is why I've given this place a 4 instead of a 5. Not only was the dish late coming out to the point that everyone else was almost done their meals, it was not the original dish. I was informed after asking how much longer that they'd ran out of my dish and that I might have to order something else. Of course, I'm annoyed. 45+ minutes goes by and I'm just being told the kitchen ran out of this dish? To me that represented a lack of communication between kitchen staff and front room staff. Within a couple minutes a cheddar smash sando did come out but honey, it was a mess. The kitchen served me 4 mini dropped biscuits (yes, they were absolutely delicious) topped with the eggs and chicken sausage. So of course, I had no choice but to ask for the manager! I was in disbelief because in order to eat the dish, I had to cut it up into 4s to make breakfast sliders. Now, they could've saved themselves a little bit here had they thought to do that, but they didn't. Instead, I had to get creative and a bit messy. The manager came over, apologized, explained the situation and I shared my disappointment, especially since I was looking forward to those jalapeno biscuits (the mini dropped biscuits were regular). To make up for this massive hiccup, she comped my meal and ordered us the French Toast so that's why I settled on 4 stars. I ate some of the sandwich, but not all since the chicken sausage was on the pink side in the middle and I just couldn't proceed even though the manager said it was normal. My paranoia got the best of me lol.But the French Toast was a winner. Not only was it cooked very well, with lightly crispy edges, the chantilly and the fresh fruit made each bite heavenly.Even though we experienced a bump in the road, I'd surely come back not only for brunch but to check out Primrose's dinner.

I came here for my birthday and had an incredibly memorable experience and I'm so happy I came here. The food and wine pairings were all phenomenal. We started with a seared tuna appetizer and raw oysters. The tuna was on a bed on a sort of pear slaw that was great and the oysters came with an house-made hot sauce that top notch. We followed that with a steak tartare and fries with a bearnaise sauce. We were honestly a little shocked by how much we enjoyed the steak tartare. After that it was the Ma La Wings and Chicken Sous Vide. The wings were so flavorful and had just the right amount of heat! And the chicken sous vide was so moist it almost melted in your mouth. The final dishes were the clams and noodles in miso which had a bit more heat than we were expecting but that didn't stop us from eating every last one of those babies and also the P.E.I. Moules that were in a just delicious green curry. We finished the night with an bowl of ice cream (strawberry and pistachio) and a perfect creme brulee. I couldn't even begin the list all the wines but all I can say is if they have a recommendation LISTEN TO THEM! They won't steer you wrong. Suffice to say they had to roll us out in a wheelbarrow j/k but we can't wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyPolite service and the brussel sprouts were very good.
The rest of the food was average. They only had three beer choices and none were anything I would pick. You would think they would have at least one Pilsner available. The duck was rubbery. Fries came without any sauce or ketchup. We spent about $115 per person. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't go back.

I like to start with the good, so let's! Ambiance. Stunning. So beautifully designed. French bistro with a fun flair. Parking. Easy. You won't be driving around for 30 minutes looking, and that's always a win in a city with $200 tickets (@ me DC). Service was fine, not spectacular. Employees are relaxed and around so you can kind of get whatever you need, provided it's in stock, regardless of who is waiting on you. Also appeared very clean, although I did not see the restroom. Now the bad. The food. Was bad. Kind of a thing when you're at a restaurant. Food. We ordered the quiche, potato hash, bacon, and French toast. I ate about 1/4 of my quiche before I decided it wasn't worth the calories and tore it apart to get to the pasty dipped in the goat cheese (which was delicious, definitely had a white wine something going on, yum) and fresh tomatoes that garnished said quiche. Honestly, I would have been really happy with just that. There was no flavor in the food. How do you caramelize onions and there's no flavor? Potatoes, dry, and mine are better, not worth $9 -don't waste your money. French toast, also dry. Could have sat in the mixture a bit longer (the crรจme on top was divine). Bacon, (wait for it) dry - shocker. The driest bacon I have ever seen. It was drier than burnt bacon. Actually now that I think of it, maybe it was jerky? I actually laughed at attempts to eat it (not me, I like my jaw).Having experienced proper French food it was really underwhelming. I don't really believe they deserve the 3 stars but I'm sarcastic, not a monster. No pics. Not worth the effort.
Be the first to ReplyI cannot say enough good things about this place.
I live in Phoenix but I get the pleasure of patronizing this most excellent restaurant every time I'm in DC visiting my cousins.First of all, I feel like I just walked into some swanky French place when I come here! Feathers! Beautiful colors! Cool light fixtures! The wine list is so fabulous! I usually just drinksome of whatever bottle my cousin or husband orders, but this last time I asked for "pink bubbles" and viola!!...pink bubbles appeared. Delicious pink bubbles, I might add. The menu is small but mighty, and every time I go there is something a bit different. The steak frites are missed from the menu and a "formal" complaint has been made to the owner. And by this I mean we whined about it when the owner (who my cousins know well) sat down at our table to chat with us. They do still have duck frites and moules frites, which is a good thing because I might cut someone for one of those fries. I have never had a bad meal here. In fact, I tried a bite of the salmon this last time and it was SOOOO GOOOOOOOD and, folks, I don't even really like salmon! I think this place is magic. There has never been one dish that hasn't blown me away if I'm being honest. I have always been welcomed warmly by all staff, and it's very clear that owner takes pride in presenting the very best experience to his guests. I've been before COVID, during COVID (summer 2021) and then just this week. They've done a great job creating an outdoor space for diners, with coverings and heaters, and they take all possible precautions to protect both guests and staff. Just go and thank me later.
