Very overpriced, over rated
Due to last-minute reservations at the bar next to another individual from New Orleans area. We both thought the restaurant was overrated and overpriced (food good, not outstanding at these prices) certainly compared to even Paris or New York City. But was particularly annoying to me is I thought they missed giving me 1 of the courses and rather than replacing it up as each of the courses were very tiny, they said no, you're given a course. Obviously they do not believe that the customers always right.

Dining at Providence in Los Angeles was a culinary voyage that celebrated the flavors of the sea and the art of fine dining. The restaurantโs elegant and contemporary ambiance set the stage for an exceptional meal. The menu was a symphony of fresh seafood and seasonal ingredients, highlighting the richness of Californian cuisine. The tasting menu was a journey into creative dishes and exquisite flavors. The staffโs knowledge of the menu and their dedication to culinary excellence made the dining experience truly exceptional. Pairing the dishes with wines from the extensive list was a delightful exploration of the regionโs gastronomy. Providence is not just a restaurant; itโs a tribute to the beauty of fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a must-visit for anyone seeking an exceptional gastronomic experience in Los Angeles.

Friends surprised us by booking the Chef's Table. I wish the evening could be recorded to include smell and taste. Every course was superb and excellently paired with a wine which was explained by the sommelier. The activity in the kitchen was fascinating. We werenโt at all rushed but the evening went much too fast for this amazing culinary evening.

This was our annual trek to Providence from OC. A 90 minute drive up that's usually abt a 30 minute drive home (though this visit, the PGA US Open was in town and doubled our time home). We rarely return twice to a fine dining location unless it's really THAT good...and Providence is one of those rare restaurants. Over the years, I've become a fan of Mr Donato Poto and he's part of the reason I return. His FOH table-side manners are just so exquisite, understated and lovely. Last year, I dined at another Michelin starred restaurant and had a chat with the chef; he asked what my favourite restaurant was. How do you answer THAT question? He said he wouldn't be offended and would appreciate a frank answer; so I told him on balance of food and service, it would be Providence for fine dining. And then he added, that, yes, chefs Michael Cimarusti and Tristan Aitchison create delicious menus and the service by Mr Poto is one that's hard to beat. So Mr Poto has fans in other chefs. Anyway, to my dismay, Mr Poto wasn't there that evening. But, his son Nick was. Mr Nick Poto, like his father, was generous and gracious. He was also friendly, energetic and kind, as was our server Ivar. We were in good hands. Also, the restaurant underwent a gorgeous remodel this spring. It felt like a nice, romantic, adult, elevated grotto, awash in oceanic green. There were fewer tables, adding to a more exclusive ambiance. It was a nice change. The food was delicious. This summer, the menu tasted more French inspired with the sauces. Before, the flavours were more Japanese-inspired; clean, vibrant, yet subtle. This go-around, it was more luscious, requiring us to use the red fife sourdough to get every bit of the sauce. And there was one dish that had red shiso, that was so yummy it blew my mind. As a fan of seafood, I love returning here each year. My favourites of the evening are depicted below; of those, the playful One Potato Two Potato caviar dish was stunning. I've had caviar at the Petrossian Cafe inside Tiffany's a month prior and Providence's was better than anything they offered. The amuse bouche always delights, as does the salt-roasted spot prawns served table-side, the chocolate husk tea and the takeaway granola. If you pick one fine dining restaurant in LA, this would be it.

Well deserved reputation as one of the top restaurants in Los Angeles. We had their multi-course prix fixe menu and the experience was sublime. All courses were delicious and beautifully presented/plated. The service was attentive. The pace was leisurely.

This is my first time to dine in this Michelin 2 star restaurant. My favorites were the langotti pasta with crab and uni, the lobster with matsutake mushrooms and the salmon with pepper truffle sauce with a side of sun chokes and white truffle shavings. The apple sorbet with apple chip was refreshingly delightful. Margo and the other staff members made this 3 hour dining experience remarkable.

We went there for our 20th anniversary. Everything to perfection on their fixed price menu. Truly a dining experience with unparalleled service. So many people serving and supporting one another. Did not leave hungry with so many courses and extras (10 we counted). We could not eat another bite by dessert. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Because of the cost, itโs more of a special celebration for us. Enjoyed the evening immensely. Excellent tasting menu.

Iโm totally in awe of Providence. We visited with friends from the UK and all I have to say is that the food was superb and the wines chosen for us by David the Wine Director was spot on for the meal. Overall I canโt recommend Providence enough and we will be back again in the very near future Highly recommended

WOW! They have so many dishes, the cod I had was absolutely so tasty. But their customer service could surely be improved. The waiter was really snotty.

Providence is my absolute favourite: food, service and atmosphere are exceptionally top notch. It's *the* restaurant I think about when asked, "where do you want to go" or "where do you recommend." So to celebrate a special occasion, we chose Providence for our first dinner *inside* a restaurant since COVID (okay, first dinner *with*the*hubby*, dined once before elsewhere with the sis). There's only one tasting menu they're serving at this time: the eight-course (+ amuse bouche and a post dinner sweets), Chef's Tasting. As usual, Providence is hard to get into on weekends, as they're often booked two months out. And with limited dining capacity (current COVID tier mandates a max of 50% capacity indoors), getting your preferred date becomes harder. As we entered, to our surprise, we were lead to the Chef's Table. Pre-COVID, the only way to reserve this table was to have a 4-person, Chefโs tasting menu and even then, it wasn't guaranteed. So as we were shown the table, I cried; I was just overwhelmed. It's so nice to be moving forward to some semblance of pre-COVID and to be offered this prized seating without request. The service was reserved, polite, yet friendly. They anticipated our needs and fulfilled a few small requests.
So, again, this is the Chefโs tasting (as the smaller 4-course tasting is on hold. The dinner started with a trio of amuse bouche and then with an additional off-menu starter. Providence is a seafood-focused restaurant; with a Japanese mother, I truly appreciate the Japanese aesthetic to preparation and presentation. Everything was phenomenal, delicious and meticulously prepared. We also added an uni egg which was delightfully umami-filled; at once, delicately earthy and perfectly briny. The dessert was both bright and palate-cleansing; dinner was finished with additional chocolates served four ways. And as usual, they provided a gift bag of next-day breakfast sweets. We've been dining at Providence for a dozen years now and it was wonderful to chat w Mr Poto; hopefully, they will remain busy and remain a staple of the LA dining scene for many years to come. Always a memorable evening.

One of the best meals I've ever had!!!!
I ate here with a group of friends back in 2019. We got lucky and were given the chef's table which made the dinner feel extra special.
Every course of the Tasting Menu was extremely creative and equally delicious, and the service was impressive.
It is probably the best meal I've ever had.
Most interesting of all my culinary experiences!!!
Providence is hands down the most interesting of all culinary experiences Iโve ever experienced. We did the full-blown 9 course meal, $300+ per person plus the wine pairing with each course. Although the plates are teeny tiny, trust me, you will get full, especially with all that wine. I loved experiencing all their different and unique offerings like baked salmon skin and uni egg. I especially enjoyed the Greyhound Shot with was grapefruit and vodka in a jelly like sphere that made you feel like you were eating an egg yolk, except the taste was exceptional. Its not just food, this is science people. Not just science in their food, but in the way they provide service. I sat their watching the servers walk around the room like clockwork. Refilling glasses, fixing peopleโs napkins while they were away, checking in on tables. It was fascinating to watch.
So why should you go here? Well, if you are a big time foodie and are ok with dropping some serious cash to enjoy an out of this world experience, then Iโd say this is for you. Oh, and a little advance warning, be sure to arrive on time and expect to spend a good 3 hours!
Terrible Service, Way Over Priced, and Very Disappointing Food
Very limited menu, virtually all prix fixe. I informed the waiter that I was allergic to shrimp. The first thing they brought me was shrimp. They replaced it with a dish for me and my wife, with shrimp on the same plate for her. I told them I was on a low carbohydrate diet. Three different times they brought me a very high carbohydrate dish, "specially" prepared by the chef. They are supposedly in the restaurant business but cannot abide by food allergy concerns. And they have no concept of what a carbohydrate is.
We chose the wine tasting. The wines were very poorly paired and of mundane quality and character, with limited pours.
The service was poor to non existent.
The portions were small to miniscule. We left hungry and so disappointed.
The prices for all this were outrageous.
Wow...just wow.
I found out about Providence from a 2018 article about the best Chef'S tasting menus in LA. I am so happy that I had this experience.
Each dish was like a piece of art... Because it was. I got the Chef's Tasting Menu. I was worried about being able to eat everything but each course was just the right size and was so delicious.
Ambiance and service was spectacular. I sat at the bar and the bartender was so cool, helpful and made a great cocktail.
Im sure dining like this is a weekly thing for some people, but if you are a regular person like me - save up some cash and check out Providence. Treat yourself to something amazing.
I would post some pictures but the site is broken or something so I can't
