Quo Vadis London Reviews from The Last Year
Nostalgic classy environment with good food
There are a lot of stories and history to this place and there is also a members only section of the club. With such an interesting profile, a visit seemed worthwhile. I feel this place has a Moulin Rouge feel (maybe due to the colour tone). Table arrangement is a bit intimate but comfortable. I started off with the whole artichoke vinaigrette (which I kind of regretted a bit) but with hindsight, probably the famous smoked eel sandwich should have been a better choice (I thought the eel sandwich was a full main course, that's why I didn't order it). I was looking forward to have the pie but was told it was a beef pie that evening. As I do not take beef, I opted for the lamb rump. The lamb rump was in fact very tender (surprisingly) and that brought my mood back. It also went well with the red wine I ordered. The meal was finished off with a creme brulee, which was a bit different from the usual version (it didn't have that burnt crunchy top. Strange but maybe that's their interpretation of the dessert, I didn't bother to find out. Why I said "brought my mood back" was because, during the meal, I saw the guest (also a solo diner) next to me having the exact courses I was planning to order, the smoked eel sandwich and the pie. To my surprise, the pie didn't looked like a beef pie as it had a white meat filling. So, I had a casual chat with him and found out the menu had changed half way through. At that moment, I thought the waiter could have been more informed and suggested that I could have the chicken pie as an option. Will I return for the eel sandwich and the chicken pie? Maybe, if I do not have other priorities.
The reservation was made on May 1, 2024, for May 27, 2024.
On the day of the reservation, I received text messages confirming that I would still be dining that night, followed by another reminder of my reservation. I paid for an Uber to be driven to the restaurant, only to find it closed upon arrival. When making the reservation, it was stated that there may be a fee for no-shows or late cancellations. Given this policy, I believe I should be compensated for my time and the Uber expenses incurred due to the restaurant's closure. It is unfortunate for such an establishment to act so irresponsibly. As a visitor from the United States, I could have made alternative dining arrangements had I been notified in advance.
A calm oasis in busy Soho.
We decided to visit as thinking of joining the Club, and first impressions were very promising. Charming staff, delicious, well balanced food and a lovely calm atmosphere, mercifully uninterrupted by the loud thumping music which has ruined so many recent restaurant experiences. We had a quick look at the Club premises above and discovered the members' restaurant impossible to talk in, due to - loud, thumping music! So we won't be joining, but we will go back to the ground floor restaurant.
Smoked eel is fantastic
Smoked eel sandwich was fantastic and out of this world. A substantial piece of eel. The chicken pie was ok. Service was good.
reliably top quality
another excellent meal from the master jeremy lee. original and beautifully prepared food, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere
Lovely interior - sort of like a small French restaurant.
Kind service/servers. Pricey. I was disappointed that on my visit, one of their known-for plates (fritto misto) was not available. Started with a double scotch (which in typical UK fashion is scant). Also enjoyed a glass of wine - which is nearly the price of a whole bottle retail. Wine temp - perfect. Oysters were 5 stars. Bread/butter great. Onto their famous eel sandwich. Eel was not tender. Reminded me of NY deli whitefish, but unsmoked. Very tasty - some horseradish in the dish which I love. However, I don't understand the rave reviews/fuss. Tasty - but not epic by any means. Onto the main - A British pie - of the chicken variety tonight. The quality and quantity of the chicken in the pie was totally phenomenal. Unfortunately, that's where the enjoyment ends. Under seasoned. Think boiled chicken in cream with a hint of tarragon. Pastry on the pie was pretty in looks. Blah in taste. Skipped dessert. Overall - disappointed with my visit. Would not return. Would not recommend.
Great food + Great service = special dinner out
Had a wonderful dinner at Quo Vadis this evening. The food was so good: inventive and creative, but balanced and delicious as well as exciting and new. Our server, Fabian, made it a really special dinner. He looked young through my 63 year old eyes, but he was a seasoned pro. I think if what we had been looking for was structure and formality, he would have delivered. However, as this was our first time here and my wife and I have no dietary restrictions and like just about everything, we asked Fabian to work with us to assemble a sampling that would give us a taste of what Quo Vadis does best. He delivered the goods. He was warm, engaging, confident and knowledgeable. A good reminder to the owners that what separates a good meal from a great one is this level of service.
Restuarant is pleasing for couples
Quo Vadis has evolved from French food cuisine into an Italian influenced menu. The food is excellent; the restaurant is wonderful for friends and families. The restaurant has a beautiful look that is pleasing for all customers. Quo Vadis easy to find. We loved Quo Vadis, it's a wonderful place for couples to dine. By the way, there is a wide choice of wine for diners.
Not the best meal on our trip
Really average restaurant, not made to feel welcome in any way. Service strange would be the word to use. Starters - mine was pear, Stilton, bitter leaves etc was very nice. My husbands goose rillettes seemed off? Mains we both chose Chicken pie which was ok. Felt like we were wading through thick porridge and eventually we had to give up as it became inedible. Decided against a desert as preferred to leave. Not the best experience and very sad as we had both looked forward to visiting this restaurant.
Won’t get fooled again
A group of us went in November and all ended up ill. The common denominator was the oysters, though Quo Vadis denied any responsibility. Fair enough and they were good enough to offer a complimentary meal up to £150 (original cost was in excess of £500). I went with my husband for said complimentary meal and we were rushed from the very beginning. We’d not even been there an hour and a half and were told they’d need our table back before the stipulated two hours. What a weird experience when they were supposedly trying to make us feel welcome. Sorry, I just don’t get this place. I was a returning customer after numerous visits following a bout of food poisoning - though they accepted no responsibility - and made to feel like a bloody nuisance. The lack of customer care/service is an absolute joke. Owner Jeremy Lee may be a celebrity chef but these places seem to rely on their reputation when maybe they need to take care of the people coming through the doors. I won’t be back.
Come for the food, be aware of lacking service
This gem in Soho was perfect for me as I wanted a calm place with some fine food. Well, the atmosphere was Indeed calm, and the food was fine. I especially would like to highlight the amazing smoked eel sandwich as a great starter. However, what could have been a nice 5/5 rating was unfortunately dragged down by the underwhelming service. Not outright bad per se, but I didn't feel welcome.
VERY TASTY DINNER
Visited for dinner a week ago. Not the best table in the house, but had a great experience. Lily, our waitress was engaging & professional. I had the smoked eel sandwich to start with; & it certainly deserves all the praise & accolades it has received. Smoked eel in Britain usually only appears in Tasting menus as a small component. At QV it is a substantial portion, served warm on sourdough toast, with lightly pickled red onions & horseradish cream. My main was hake with parsley mash - another winner! My wife had the chicken pie which was superb & plentiful, with a crispy short crust pastry topping & lots of chicken in a delightful light creamy sauce. Sorry, with such superb & tasty savoury courses, no room for pudding. But, who knows - next time.... Barrie & Julie
