Redd Rochester Reviews from The Last Year
Horrible
4$ for a tiny soufflé cup au jus on the side And a 20 minutes for a drink.. worst portions and service ever. Kitchen closes insanely early.

Was treated to a birthday dinner here and it was pretty nice. Not the best of service, which I was not expecting due to what I've heard about this restaurant. They have a nice mocktail menu, we shared some appetizers, wood fired pizza and split two desserts. Portions are on the small side but delicious. Ambiance was clean (aside from some smudges on our water glasses) and the sun was beaming through the window which was a bit uncomfortable as I was squinting and trying to find some relief. Our server didn't come to check on us really at all and we had to try and call him over a few times which felt uncomfortable and we were bothering him. He brought over our check without asking if we wanted any refills on drinks or anything else for that matter and we were trying to flag him down to place another dessert order. I think it's worth going for a drink and appetizer.
Lunch? Yes, please!
Lunch on a Friday! This place will make you feel as if you’ve left Rochester, NY and are on vacation. Surprised to learn after sitting with the menu that the Gumbo was 86’d at 1:00 pm - jeez, please make enough for service next time. The scallops are the best anywhere I’ve ever had them and please bring back the 1/2 portion for lunch. Such a boring dessert menu - sorry but that Sticky Toffee Pudding tastes like it is a dessert served at an elderly facility; dry, little flavor, even less sauce too! Please try the same dessert from the sticky toffee pudding company (online and sold at Whole Foods) to learn was the dessert really should taste like. Happy that the reservations issue has been sorted. We had a pleasant greeting and seating by the hostess. Keep up the good work and open for lunch more often, please.
Exceptional service.
That was the best part. We had the nicest waiter. The food was absolutely amazing, and the drinks were awesome. Definitely expensive but they make it a memorable worthwhile experience. Love the atmosphere. Very luxurious feeling.
Delicious surprise!
It was our very first visit to Redd’s. No one was disappointed. Popular place, need reservations, noise level a bit on the high side, and service (great as it was) also a bit slow. That said, the cream of asparagus soup was excellent and all entrees were absolutely amazing. Dessert is a must for us and the different choices enticing. Butterscotch pots de crème ranked #1.
evreything was wonderful.
love the food. service was great def will come back again

Enjoyed a delicious dinner 3/27/24 with a friend for my first experience at REDD. I had ordered a Cosno off the mocktail menu and enjoyed the NA take on a classic. My friend ordered the same shortly after and it took 20+ min to receive the mocktail. We started out with the tuna tartare and split the specialty wood fired pizza (which was to die for). Everything we ordered was spot on and with each bite I enjoyed everything a little bit more. The ambience was top notch and gave a sophisticated yet relaxed vibe. From drinks, to dinner, to dessert nothing was lacking except the service. Our server was very inattentive and left us waiting for the next step far too long. Had we been waited on better, we would have ordered more but we were approaching 3hrs at the restaurant. All in all, I would return but would be weary of coming during a time constraint.
Took my friend and I an hour to find parking.
Once in we were seated in the loudest restaurant I have ever been in, we could barely hear each other or the server . The menu is extremely limited, and overly priced. 15$ for a glass of wine. Was not impressed with the food especially at that cost.

Main takeaway with review of dishes to follow: In my opinion you can find better upscale food in Rochester for a price that matches the flavor. At Redd I believe you're paying mostly for ambience-- to be amongst a "fancier" crowd of Rochesterians and to have the staff perform the rituals and etiquette of a "fancy" restaurant. I had high expectations after hearing so much about Redd. But it was truly pretty mediocre for how expensive it is. I had the lobster risotto to start, and it was good but kind of lemony and not very flavorful. The arancini appetizer special was really good, probably the best thing we got, but isn't on the regular menu. I got the bouillabaisse dish for my main and it was disappointing. The mussels tasted off, very fishy and strange. I usually love mussels. My partner got the scallops and he said they were pretty good but the cauliflower/raisin/almond mash under them was not very good.
Must try if you're in the area.
Walked into a bright and welcoming dining experience. We were lucky enough to snatch two seats at the bar and the fellas behind the counter were amazing, the perfect amount of attentiveness to all their guests during a busy Friday afternoon rush. Thought we were being basic for getting the pizza but it was the perfect start, the dough was warm, soft, & crispy with soppresata in every bit. For our main dish, we shared the Wild Fluke & Clams and it was delicious! The fish was light and flaky with the right amount of sauce. All the flavors complimented each other really nicely. We'll definitely return to try some other menu items.
Best in the city.
Service is excellent, food is fun and creative often with new dishes to try.
Overrated.
After dining in reed we spent 300$ . I left hungry from dinner . U don't get enough food for what u pay .

The food is very good but the portions are small for the price. I feel like there are better places in town if you are looking for quality food with normal sized portions. It isn't my go-to.
The atmosphere is amazing.
Staff is friendly and catering. I personally feel that they need a little more traditional dishes on the menu. Even if it's just for lunch just so we can have a little variety.
REDD is purported to be Rochester's finest restaurant.
It may be, but on the night we dined, nothing tasted terrific, and the pricing was high. Service was fantastic, though; Giovanna at the front is the epitome of gracious. She was very accommodating. Alex was our bartender/server, and he was terrific. Even the bar manager came over to introduce himself. REDD is a well-run restaurant. We ordered two raw fish appetizers, and both were refreshing and tasteful. Yet, neither was a new flavor profile. Our two pastas, one the restaurant's signature rigatoni in a Bolognese sauce, and the other pasta was an oxtail pappardelle were fine. The rigatoni was delicious, and the pappardelle was good, but not earth-shattering. Cocktails were made with expertise, and the restaurant was designed beautifully. The lighting makes everyone look good. REDD gets an upscale crowd who are not interested in engaging. There was an "air" of arrogance amongst the patrons. The people at the bar turned their back towards us, a not-too-subtle way of saying, "Don't bother me." We had not experienced that behavior in Rochester. REDD is a great restaurant, but I don't know if it was worth $290 for two people.

Had an amazing dinner with friends this evening.
The food was amazing, the service was great. The team worked really well to deliver excellent service. This was the best meal we have had, truly an original dining experience.

Food was flavorful and the service was superb! The ambience was chic! Will come again!!!!
Great food but a couple issues
Recently went for lunch with my wife, we had a pizza, scallops, and a salad. Pizza and scallops were awesome, salad was ok. A couple issues,it took for ever ro get our drinks at our table. Other major problem is the bathrooms. They are all unisex, my wife went and there was urine on the seat, this is unacceptable and we most likely will not return. No woman should have to deal with this.

My husband has been eager to try Redd for awhile and we finally made our reservations for New Year's weekend. Quick rundown, the shining star of the evening was easily the lobster risotto and this should remain a staple on the menu indefinitely. I had two drinks and my husband had two drinks. The spicy margarita was spicy, like lots of pepper in the actual drink. It will warm you up. The Holly McClane was our server's favorite and personal recommendation. It was okay. The wood fired pizza was wood fired pizza and nothing to write home about. Our main entrees, though much anticipated both fell short of our high expectations. The eggplant dish is the only vegetarian (maybe vegan?) option on the menu. You need to really enjoy curry to enjoy this dish. Why was there only one thin slice of eggplant? My husband's entree was the NY strip. He said it was just okay and can recount other local restaurants that offer a better steak. The server was nice. The atmosphere was cool, but maybe a bit open for our liking. We could lock eyes with the tables adjacent to us and did at one point. We saw several families dining on a Saturday evening. The manager was very kind, greeted us and inquired about our visit. Upon returning, we would probably skip cocktails and I'd have the lobster risotto as an entree. Overall good dining experience. I'd venture back, but probably not anytime soon.
REDD Rochester has Turned the Corner in the Right Direction
Alert, the five year rule is in effect as it has been five or more years since we last reviewed REDD Rochester. This was our second time at REDD Rochester and it was a much better experience than the first time. The staff was excellent; many kudos to Mel A for being on top of everything as our waitress. Also the folks filling our waters were great and one kindly found out the name of one of the songs being played and even wrote it down for us. We had one of the pizzas sans cheese (muy delicioso) and the Bouillabaisse (very good, but a little bland, we added lots of crushed red pepper). There was not Prosecco on the menu but in its place we loved the Australian Jansz Sparkling Rosé. And it was a solid pour to boot! The crowd was hot for sure and we even lucked out with a great parking spot right out in front. We’ll be back far sooner than we were after our first visit, things look to be on a solid track at REDD Rochester.
Best restaurant in Western New York!
This is the best restaurant in Western New York, bar none. Have the pan-seared scallops, mushroom risotto and the Marguerita pizza. And remember to take your leftovers home which I forgot to do, and will regret it tonight when I want my midnight snack.
Pre-Concert Dinner
I came to REDD as a Pre-Concert Dinner option the place was packed on a Saturday evening, luckily, there was sitting at the bar. I ordered the Eggplant Katsu, and the Utica Greens and a glass of Bubbly Rosé. The Eggplant crispy on top of Jasmine rice with Japanese curry, Carrots, Potatoes and Tonkatsu Sauce, delicious. Utica Greens is a warm broth dish with escarole, pecorino, prosciutto, breadcrumb. Good, but at first if feels salty to the palate. Bread is good to dip into the both. The advantage of sitting at the bar is that one gets to interact with some of the people next to you. A nice young couple celebrating the husband birthday and a solo night away from their three young ones. It was a very enjoyable evening.
