PLEASE GIVE ME A BREAK FROM OBSCENE WINE PRICES
Excellent food and very fine service. Creative menu. Lovely room and decor. Cozy. Romantic. But those obscene wine prices. Hardly a wine under 100 euros for the bottle and dozens upon dozens at least a thousand euros. Not all fabulous stuff either. A great three star chef....outside of Paris.... once told me there is no need for the usual French two and three star restaurant practice to keep raising wine prices to keep up with inflation. He said if he bought a nice bottle for 50 euros 20 years ago he still sells it at the normal markup from back then. Not what it would cost today to replace that bottle. But this restaurant and most others of multiple stars do not subscribe to this reasonable view. Arrogance. Yes, pay 195 euros for the three or four course dinner and a thousand or two thousand for the wine. Gouge the customer. Insane. Insulting. When there are thousands of very good wines the restaurant could put on its list at reasonable prices but chooses not to. We drank wine by the glass and it was quite good.

This restaurant has a set menu and is VERY VERY expensive. In addition, in order to have decent wine, you had to buy an entire bottle and I believe the cheapest bottle was about 100 Euros. The wine by the glass was poor and a very small glass of wine was 17 Euros. The food was very good, but the price for 2 people was 385 Euros. There are tons of other excellent restaurants in Paris that are not near as expensive
Be the first to ReplyThis historic Michelin restaurant delivers
This small, romantic Michelin-starred restaurant is located in an historic 16th century building and named after King Louis XIII who was just a child when he lived on the premises and ascended to the throne following the assassination of his father. The food is ethereal but, fortunately, it is not the absurdly artsy smidgens of food that passes for gourmet cuisine in other Michelin restaurants. My veal was exquisite and a generous portion. The same goes for my Stuffed Tomato appetizer filled with crab, the Watercress Cream Soup and delicious Quince Tarte.

Wonderful! Cordial and attentive service; excellent wine list; well-conceived and prepared dishes – a flawless dinner experience.
Be the first to ReplyHigh-end place but worth it!
Every aspect of this dining experience was exceptional! The charming character of the place, from the exposed stonework & wooden beams, to the layout of the tables & serving areas. To say the food was delicious would be an understatement. Uniquely put together & served, each bite was heaven. The Amuse Bouche were several crackers with an assortment of tasty toppings. The creamy parmigiana-topped soup was also delicious. Both of the above preceded the ordered meal. We both started with a lobster ravioli topped with white truffle shavings- to die for!! My wife’s main was a lobster tail with special sauce & I had the duck , both were fabulous. The service throughout was on point without being intrusive. Great wine list at different price levels. Price for all of it was about 500 Euros

The restaurant is set in a historic building and the bare stone walls, stained glass and exposed timbers overhead is unlike any other place to dine. The servers were friendly and attentive as well as Chef Martinez who came out to check on us. My wife and I both ordered the signature menus and everything we ordered was divine. The staff wine selections went well with our courses and we couldn't have been happier. We highly recommend you experience this wonderful restaurant yourself. On our next trip to Paris we'll be stopping by for sure!!

We arrived with no reservation and after asking for a table, and getting one, my husband was sent outside to check the menu…to see if he liked what was being served. That was weird and I felt somehow uneasy and unwelcomed. Didn’t want to make my husband uncomfortable so I hushed and we stayed. The menu was small but interesting. There is also the offer of Carte Blanche, which at this restaurant means you give the chef absolute freedom to surprise you with variety of 6 to 9 dishes created spontaneously just for you. They ask what you don’t like and if you have any allergies and that’s it, off they go. Our experience was a 7.5/10. The menu consisted of a topinambur soup, crab, sword fish, goat cheese mousse, bio boneless chicken leg and a soirée of three small desserts with two of them composed of chocolate. I must admit, the chicken was a disappointment, it tasted well and was well prepared but I find chicken plain and lacking character in general as a dish ingredient. Also two chocolate flavoured desserts was just too much chocolate. In general a good experience, with competent staff, although the service is nothing comparable to the Swiss standards.

I took my wife and two kids (aged 9 and 14). The dinner was truly a lovely experience. We've eaten in a lot of Michelin places, and this is without a doubt one of my favourites. Do not miss the Quenelles, which set the standard for this dish. Better than Bocuse, better than Tour d'Argent....simply the best version I've had. A pumpkin soup (we had the surprise menu) was indeed a surprise...a wonderful surprise. 'Huge technical ability on display by the chef. Everything else was first rate, including the service, which could not have been any better. And amazingly, the prices are actually quite fair, and you don't leave with a 2,000 euro bill for 4 people, and a feeling that you have been skinned alive. we spent about 800 euros for 4, including a bottle of champagne and a nice Pomerol. 'Amazing value really, for this level of cooking. I give this restaurant my highest recommendation.

There aren't many starred restaurants open for dinner on Saturdays, so we decided on this after examining reviews and menus. When we entered the restaurant, the staff and chef greeted us with greetings, and we started the dinner comfortably. We asked for 9 courses of 160 € and wine pairing, and we had a glass of champagne first as an apéritif. The food was beautiful and friendly, and it was very delicious. We drinks and eats a lot, but the amount is not too much and not too little, and the wine selection was great for the food. The younger staffs and Madame, who divides the hall, are kind and nice, and the restaurant itself was very nice. However, one sommelier man, who was a little older, was uncomfortable from beginning to end, and we were very confused. We arrived on time, had no trouble talking in English, asked for wine pairing and glasses of Champagne, and I don't think we were overly noisy, but something seemed to upset him. I was told a few times what seemed to be ironic as a joke (I asked him the intent of the word at the end, but he said that it was just a joke), and I was surprised that he pick up the box of truffes from the staff in front of us without any excuses in the middle of her showing us the box and explaining about the optional truffe. Due to the timing, most of the other customers were Caucasian, but it seemed that they are not treated with such a terrible act, so I think it may be just racism (more bad). I thought it was a great restaurant, but when I remember his attitude I don't want to go there again. I wanted to meet a wonderful female sommelier written in other people's reviews.
Disapointment
Big disappointment. Food is not up to one star, no sommelier, old fashioned food without creativity, very high prices… a lot of other places will bring you more pleasure in Paris
Be the first to ReplyClassic French cuisine at its best!
We had the good fortune of experiencing an awesome evening of gastronomical treat from Chef Manuel Martinez. I’ve always considered French cuisine a league of its own but Chef Manuel brought it up to a higher level. Everything we’ve had, from entree to desserts especially the Mille feuille were simply amazing. A must for all food lovers to enjoy. Highly recommended.
