Restaurant Da Emma Montréal Reviews
Disappointed
Food was ordinary, it was tasteless. Service was good, but for the price it doesn t worth it. I don t recommand this restaurant. I felt I was eating chef boyardy.
Disappointed.
We went with another couple and we were all disappointed. The restaurant was recommended but we won’t recommend it to anyone. We were greeted by the unfriendly hostess who walked ahead of us to the table but by the time we followed her down the stairs she was so far ahead of us that we had to look for her to see where she was seating us. The ordering process was fine, our waiter was friendly, but when we were eating our mediocre food (congealed gravy on the veal and pea dish, pasta with bland mushroom sauce) they sat a table of 10 right beside us. They were so loud we could not hear each other speak at our table. We told our waiter that the noise was too loud and he agreed but had to check with his boss before offering us another table. By that time we were done dinner, so decided to have dessert and a bottle of wine in another restaurant. Too bad for “Da Emma” as they would have made the profit. They should have never seated them there and should have moved them instead. We told the hostess about the situation on our way out, and she blamed Open Table for the seating plan. We told her that the restaurant was responsible for where their guests were seated. Making an excuse instead of apologizing. Not acceptable either. So disappointed on our last night in the wonderful city of Montreal. Go to Gibby’s or Damas instead! (Or McDonald’s!)
Business in Montreal
The restaurant was warm and inviting. The staff friendly and attentive. They paced our meal so we weren't rushed. The nicest thing was the food. My salmon carpaccio with arugula was lightly seasoned with a splash of olive oil on top of thinly sliced, slightly pickled onions. The shrimp cooked in wine and garlic were plump and firm.
Ask for Franco!
My family had the best experience this past weekend at Da Emma. Great food and atmosphere but the service is phenomenal. Franco went above and beyond and made our visit extra special. 100% recommend!
Nice classic Italian near Griffingtown
Classic Italian, not very sophisticated but homey. You get better service if you are dressed for the occasion! some waiters may leave you with the odd impression that they are doing you a favor by waiting on your table. We like going back when we are 4 people dining or more because some of their tables for 2 are not very comrtable (high traffic for wait staff).
Excellent food, service and atmosphere
We were two couples who had an outstanding, leisurely meal here. We were not rushed in the slightest, and had plenty of time to enjoy everything. There was plenty to enjoy as the food was excellent. Service was great as well, and our server was not only efficient, but took the time to connect with us and be more than friendly. They have a good wine list. The Italian menu was entirely up to snuff. We had a variety of items and all were excellent. The setting is unique, a stone cellar, but it adds to the atmosphere. All in all of this was a thoroughly enjoyable dinner.
Unimpressed
Food was just ok. Service was suffient, but our server was inattentive and uninterested in serving us. His deamnor was grumpy, and he didn't smile and hardly spoke to us. He just dropped the plates quickly and walked away. We had swordfish and ravioli. The sword fish was a very small portion hidden under a pile of undressed arugula. Ravioli was just ok. We were unimpressed with the whole evening.
Still Great After All These Years
Maialino was as good as I remembered from my last visit to Montreal; brought a friend, who had the agnolotti with gorgonzola…. excellent :) Great wait staff; we thoroughly enjoyed the experience
Stay away.
We were very excited to go to Da Emma - it was on many best of lists and the room looked so beautiful online. I thought the menu was a bit limited (apps were all variations on a theme - veal the only base for most pasta) but we went for it. Our waiter was gruff and we were a bit put off initially but...ok. We were celebrating my best friend's birthday in Montreal so nothing would bother us. Prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella for a start. Very good but, a pet peeve, no basil or arugula on the plate. Server did come with a very large pepper mill - hmm. Really? Entrees ordered - meatballs (which were touted in reviews) and swordfish. Would I like pasta on the side with meatballs? Yes please. Entrees came and both swimming in marinara. And not a seasoned marinara. More of a bad passata - watery tomato sauce with virtually no flavor. Meatballs weren't terrible but very dense. No love there. Pasta was fusilli that was overcooked and laden in watery sauce. Swordfish indiscernible in sauce - only thing you could taste. Pepper? No thank you. Cheese, sure. But the cheese was very powdery and had absolutely no wonderful parm flavor. Overall, we didn't eat much and we were shocked with how lazy this kitchen is. There was no care or inventiveness in this food. Good Italian is a passion of mine and this was shameful. Kicker was friend who ate the swordfish got violently ill after we left. Gordon Ramsey needs to stage an intervention. 1/ 10 recommendation.
