Nice neighborhood resto
I live in the area and had wanted to go to Chez Gus for a while but friends always dragged me downtown. This is a cute place, small, neck-to-neck table seating, though being 3 of us we had a table apart from the row of tables. There's also a bar with bar stools. The staff was great, friendly, put up with a complaint by one of our party. I loved the beef steak dish I had but I honestly did NOT love the mint and so much of it mixed in. I was able to remove it, but I don't know why anyone would enjoy chomping on mint. A little goes a long way, and while it's good as tea, on a plate, it can be overkill and was. Aside from that, the meat was excellent.

We love this restaurant. The food is always superb! Salmon tartar is excellent. Caesar salad is one of the best we've had and it's huge, more than enough for two. The onglet over potato gratin was incredible. Good wines and super friendly service. Definitely a place to try.

Excellent food, nice environment, wonderful staff. It's a neighborhood resto for me and now that I've been, I'll return. I had a good cosmopolitan and the most delicious roast lamb which was perfectly cooked. It came with little potatoes and a salad. I wasn't crazy about so much mint in the salad but it was easy to remove. A really nice place.

Chez Gus is not a tex mex restaurant. It's an outstanding French fusion restaurant. Gus takes classic French recipes and creatively interprets them by adding complimentary ingredients often based on various chili's, fois gras and other creative ingredients. Everything we had was outstanding, salmon tartar, Caesar salad and lamb. Prices are reasonable and the staff are terrific! We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyGus is a wonderful chef and delightful host, backed by the perfect team. Can’t wait to visit again!
The staff and ambience in the little “French inspired Tex-Mex” bistro are wonderful and the food, cocktails and wine are delicious. Sit at the bar if you can. A perfect Montreal dinner spot in a fun little neighborhood.
Be the first to ReplyBest Surf and Turf in Montreal
I have never had anything other than an amazing dining experience at GUS. While the menu is 'smaller' it is consistently excellent and each item on the menu is the best of its kind. I consider myself a foodie and am also very particular when it comes to accolades on meat. While the surf and turf is my favourite on the menu (it needs to be shared) the bavette is also incredible. The meat is always cooked exactly as requested, unlike many restaurants who serve steak overcooked or not as requested! Their appetizers are also incredible. My faves are the salmon tartare, tomato salad and the Caeser Salad - which is one of a kind. I don't normally like Caesar but this one is beyond good. The atmosphere is intimate. Not a lot of tables which makes it a great place for a meal. Service is wonderful - and when Dave (owner) is there its an added bonus. Since Covid Dave has taken extra measures to ensure the safety of his patrons. Now if only he'd deliver to the West Island... :)
Be the first to ReplyHighly recommend Gus resto
This has consistently been one of my favourite restaurants in Montreal. I’ve tried everything here from the Lamb to the seafood to the salmon tartare to their hand-mixed caesar salad. Beautiful bread, beautiful wine selection, fresh oysters, always good service. Just great, solid, detailed dishes for a fair price, chill vibe, open kitchen etc. When foodie friends come to Montreal, it’s always on my top 5 list for recommendations. Cheers.

This tiny little bistro packs a huge taste punch! Visited it on a quiet Wednesday evening and spent a long time enjoying the chalkboard menu. We were a group of four women and we decided to share everything. The Caesar's salad is an absolute must. The oysters were terrific. The octopus salad was too. We also had the surf and turf and shared it between the four of us. All I can say is WOW!! Everything was so yummy. The mashed potatoes at the bottom of the surf and turf may have been the best surprise of all, smothered in that delicious gravy.
The service was thoughtful and professional. We loved the open kitchen. it was a lovely experience. We definitely go back!!
amazing!

whatever your occassion this resto is worth it!
everything was so well prepared and tasted amazing!
Taste explosion!
Gus is exquisite, the flavour of the various appetizers and mains were so tasty. We visited on a Monday night with reservations. The restaurant was full of diners enjoying a cozy welcoming atmosphere on a cold January night. Can't wait to go back.

Indeed a little gem with unsuspecting name! Was there last week and for the third time impressed with the quality of the food and attentive service of the always courteous staff!
One of the nice places in Montreal that serves meat in its primitive cruelty and undeniable addiction.
Good food, very nice atmosphere
We went there as it was a nearby restaurant. The location is a bit detached to the more innish places at Le Plateau. Definitely worth going. Service was exceptionally engaged in a really good way. Not pushy, very friendly, open for some conversation. Good recommendations for whine. We took oysters, octopus salad, scallops and fish of the night. The dishes were creative and we loved it.
Place is not very large. On a Thursday we made it w/o reservation.
Great evening all around
This restaurant is tiny. Some tables and a bar with stools. A single washroom. People clearly come for the food which is delicious.
Our waitress knew the menu inside out and she was excellent with her recommendations and service.
For the appetizer, I decided on the green salad which was a mix of greens with apple slices and a sherry vinaigrette. Simple, but tasty. Other appetizers at our table were the foie gras nachos, french onion soup, portobello salad, the Caesar salad, and the beet salad. Everybody said their appetizer was delicious.
For the mains, we had Fish of the day, Bavette - served with delicious scalloped potatoes, the salmon tartare - served with fries and croutons, and the pork (my dish) - which was 2 big chops served with delicious mashed potatoes. I took the other chop home.
We decided to share desserts. We had the lemon tart which had a creme brulee style on the top and it was the standout dessert. The chocolate cake with Bailey's topping was just ok. The apple tart tatin was more delicious without the shot of Jameson on top (we had both).
An excellent evening and the cost was fair considering the quality of the food. I would happily return.
While some menu items are standard, the menu does change daily and you can check out the menu for that day on their Facebook page.
