My wife, daughter and I were pretty humiliated at
My wife, daughter and I were pretty humiliated at Kunitoraya in Paris, France. I think they also go by or own Udon Bistro Kunitoraya. The waitress of Kunitoraya pointed to a narrow section of wall that couldn't have been more than eight inches wide, right next to a narrow coat hanger in the front of the restaurant, where she told us to put our compact baby stroller which we folded up. The only place to put a stroller, a folded one at that, was that blurry narrow area. Putting anything to the other side of the coat hanger would literally block the narrow walkway entrance to the entire restaurant. In fact, the entire front of Kunitoraya is so small that not even a single person would be able to wait inside and must stand outside if tables happen to be full. As I placed the stroller up against the wall, I gently moved the bottom of a hanging jacket so that the wheels of the stroller do not touch the jacket. As I did this, a lady approached me and started yelling at me. Irate, she was yelling that the stroller is touching her jacket. I told her that's not true, and that I was moving her jacket so that it doesn't. She continued to yell at me. I told her she needs to relax as she continued to yell at me. My wife, daughter and I sat down at the table. We happened to be seated near this lady who was yelling at me. The lady continued to yell at me and her friend joined in. I continued to explain that I moved the bottom of the jacket so that it is not touching the wheels of the stroller, and that the waitress seating people explicitly told me to put the stroller where I did, and there's no other place I could have put it, but they continued to nastily yell at me as if I did something like purposely throw paint on them or something. Seconds later, the lady speaks to the waitress who seated us and the next thing I know the waitress is telling my wife, daughter and me to move to another table. I explained to the waitress that she is the one that told me to put the stroller exactly where I put it, I did what she told me, I clearly moved the bottom of the jacket so that it doesn't touch the stroller, and this lady is yelling at me, so why do I have to move. I also added that the lady may have a problem sitting in best in proximity to me, but that I didn't and if she does then she can move. The waitress continued to insist that my wife, daughter and I move. I refused. I repeated that I have no problem sitting near them, where in fact there was ample space between our party and theirs, but the waitress continued to demand that I move. A couple of minutes later, the waitress told us we can move or leave her hands gesturing to the outside. I asked to speak with the owner. The owner didn't attempt to listen or understand what I was trying to explain. Seconds into the conversation, he told me to move or leave. As I head back to table, I noticed that the ladies bitterly yelling at me were finished and leaving. Seconds after them leaving, we grabbed our items and left as well. The restaurant obviously cared more about monies than trying to address matters with all parties reasonably. We were clearly tourists, who wouldn't be frequenting their restaurants, so we humiliatingly took a back seat. I asked for the waitress's name and she refused to give it to me. I asked the other people working at Kunitoraya what the name of the waitress was and they refused to say. I would avoid this restaurant at all costs, and I will certainly never think to try them out, ever.

Hey ! You'll be nice with those bowls ! All they do are very enjoyable, your mouth will be experiencing something nicer than you ever tried with udon. Be smart choose em even if it's too long to wait outside !
Be the first to ReplyTasty Japanese food with a focus on Udon and tapas.
Pricier than its Udon-bar little brother 3 doors down, but quieter and more refined.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent-I went 4 times during the 2 week stay in Paris.
The staff is super friendly and the kitchen is accommodating to allergies if/when possible. They have a sommelier and will recommend something if you ask.A lot of people tend to think that Japanese food=sushi, but here you can taste a range of different dishes. Try to get the course as it walks you through a great experience.Their udon/noodle only place is on the same block on the corner. If you don't really care for a sit down table cloth dinner and a just looking for a quick fix, that might be a better option. This one is for dining dining-- If you do happen to choose the other, be prepared to wait in line.Great decor, great food, great staff--

I am a regular at this restaurant and I am glad such a place like this exist in Paris. I tasted many restaurants that serve tempura, but this place so far is on the top of my list for delicious shrimp and vegetable tempura.
Be the first to ReplyHonestly the best of the best Japanese restaurants in Paris
Honestly the best of the best Japanese restaurants in Paris ! Went there twice in a row when I was introduced by their regular customer..;) Originated from Shikoku, from the starters to the finishing Udon-- and lovely desserts with a subtle French touch, all is genuinely so tasty ! I know what fine Japanese is so this is almost what I want to eat in Japan :) Staff are all skilled Japanese (and spoke French of course ...) Tucked in the side street of well-know "Japanese" street.. This sleek cozy little premises with no sign--- is literally the hidden gem. So glad I found it.Oh they have great Bourgogne wines too :) Highly recommended .They also have the casual version of noodle restaurant near by.

sleek, upmarket cousin of the rue Saint-Anne canteen, looking quite fab with fashion week types feasting on steaming bowls of udon and nouvelle tapas japonais: salade de pois au sésame et figues, porc iberico grillé, seasnails-leek in creamy yuzu dressing...bon! K1 is my go-to for udon but there's a bit more eating to do here. next time, duck nabeyaki.
