After two weeks in Spain, France, & Andorra, we closed our trip out with dinner at Mano Rota. We didn't do any research of this place and to be fair, we chose this place on location and pictures of the interior (we love the exposed brick with contrast of dark wood). Amazing. We started off with amazing wine suggested by our server. Oysters--because we love oysters. The topping mellowed out the briny flavor of the oyster. Good if you don't like oysters. Different if you do. We do. It was different. But delicious. Tuna tartar. I admittedly do NOT like tuna or tuna tartar. But my partner loves it. We had to fight over the last bite. The tartar was tender with a savory, umami flavor contrasted by a crispy, sweet nori "toast". Soft shell crab ceviche. Delicious. Hot, crispy, lightly tempura'ed soft shell crab topped a delightfully acidic/citric cold ceviche. Super satisfying. The contrast of fried and fresh was wonderful. Gyoza. Very tender, flavorful filling wrapped in an al dente gyoza wrap went very well with the miso soup. Stirring in the egg yolk mellowed out the sharp dashi flavor. This dish was extraordinary. Shrimp perfectly cooked with a coconut milk sauce. The Thai flavors of shrimp, coconut, and kaffir melded perfectly over sweet jasmine rice. Explosion of flavor--described perfectly by our server. This dense Marshmallow was complemented with a Passionfruit purรฉe. This fantastic, sweet dessert was accented by fleur de sel made for a perfect finish for dessert-lovers...and even for those who don't prefer dessert. The ambience was great for a Monday evening in April (2023). This afforded us more attention from the server. It provided for opportunity to try different dishes and discuss suggestions with the server. This was a great end to our trip. We also connected on our food appreciation with another couple as they we celebrating a birthday. Overall a very positive experience which comes with high recommendations from us. Made reservations--even if it was a Monday. Didn't try to walk-in. A single diner did walk in and he was seated no problem, though.

If you are like me, someone who loves chefs who are creative, this restaurant is a must try. We had the 11 course tasting menu and each bite was a surprise of complex flavors. 7 out of 11 courses were amazingly wonderful. The other 4 were very good. Decor is decent, service is personable, but the food!!! Outstanding!!!

Hands down the best dining experience that we had in Barcelona. Caterina was absolutely amazing and very friendly. She walked us through some of the local wines and made great recommendations. We ordered the green beans, spicy noodles, pekin chicken wraps and beef cheek. Each dish was unique and delicious. The meal was spaced out perfectly and the plating was beautiful. The Beef cheek with coffee, miso and apricot was a revelation! Both my wife and I agreed that it was the best bite of food we ate in Barcelona. Would highly recommend to anyone that is looking for a great date night dinner. They also have a a private dining room for larger parties as well. Is a must see in Barcelona!

Beautiful decor, very sincere service, delicious food, but incredibly small portions- even laughable at times. We joked that the palette cleanser might be a sesame seed finely carved at a forty-five-degree angle, and desert might consist of a tiny chocolate chip shaped like the Sagrada Familia. Sadly, there was just one sweaty waiter trying to serve the entire restaurant, and not doing a very good job. We had to ask for the check three times - not helping. Last, as an Amercian living in Barcelona, I prefer local spots, and this is nothing more than a hyped guidebook spot for Americans.

Service was excellent in addition it was very easy to communicate in English. Every dish was unique and tasty and would recommend strongly.

Be the first to ReplyMano Rota was one of the best dining experiences we had on
Mano Rota was one of the best dining experiences we had on our visit to Spain - and there were a lot of great dining experiences! It was the epitome of delicious ingredients meets inventiveness, and the restaurant is graced with awesome service and great value to boot.We started with two natural wines - a Chardonnay for my partner and a red for me. Both were recommendations from the waiter and really delicious, complex and layered on the palate while still light enough to accompany really all of our mains. For food, we got four things and all of them knocked our socks off. We started with the brie-stuffed shiso leaf "quesadilla" - it was creamy and fatty yet somehow still light. Sort of like an elevated jalapeno popper or crab rangoon almost. We followed up with the straciatella salad - which was the richest, freshest straciatella I've ever had combined with fresh baby spinach and some peanut dust. It doesn't sound like it would work but the peanut and spinach added just the right about of nuttiness and freshness, respectively, to the rich cheese. For our 3rd and 4th, we had the lobster ramen and the goldfish thai suquet. Both were excellent - the lobster ramen broth was yummy and complex and the noodles were almost soba-like: thinner and with excellent mouthfeel. The suquet wasn't spicy at all, which perhaps is my complaint - but Spanish food isn't spicy in general, and the lack of spice allowed the freshness of the fish and the complexity of the coconut and lime to really shine through. Finally, for dessert we split the chocolate shell with vanilla ice cream and macadamia nuts. When we cracked upon the chocolate shell, the vanilla ice cream spilled out entirely - not sure it was really ice cream given the runniness but it was delicious. In total, we paid around 85 euros (just around $100 USD) for the meal. Reservations strongly recommended. Definitely give this place a try if you have a free meal in Barcelona!
Be the first to ReplyWe had our best meal in Barcelona here.
Although Tapas are extremely popular in Barcelona, they can be very pricey considering the quantity of dishes you need to order to get full because of their small portions. At Mano Rota, we got the tasting menu at 65 euros per person so we got to try a bit of everything on the menu. We felt it was reasonably priced for 2 people considering we get 12 dishes each and the food was delicious. I was so stuffed by the end of the meal. I definitely feel this restaurant is underrated on Yelp/Google but it deserves more attention! It's also tucked away in a less popular area of the city which is why it may be overlooked. Book in advance and check it out!

I've never had better food in my life, I want to live here

This was the best restaurant at which my wife, son, and I ate while on vacation in Barcelona. The food was interesting -- fascinatingly and creatively conceived -- and flawlessly put together. We're so delighted we found this hidden gem. ย My only regret is not going to Mano Rita a second time.

We had an amazing time at Mano Rota! The food and staff were phenomenal. We did the tasting menu and it was well worth the money. Everything they brought out were delicious. It included 4 snacks, 6 courses and 2 desserts. The waiter was able to suggest a wine that went perfectly with the meal. Would definitely come again the next time I am in Barcelona and I highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyTerrible food.
We ordered lamb and duck and both were soaked in salt. I usually love salty food but it was impossible to eat what they served. Waitress brought us some bread with the starters (we didn't ask for it) and ended up charging us 6 euros, which would be fine if we at least had overall pleasant experience.

I wish I had checked yelp reviews before going! I found mano roto on a list of top 20 barcelona restaurants for 2016. I splurged for the โฌ60 tasting menu and don't think it was worth it at all. The portions were generous and I was stuffed by the end, but the dishes were very hit or miss. I loved the cerviche and the gnocchi, but the rest of the dishes mostly fell flat. The place is well lit and a good atmosphere, but I would not recommend the tasting menu and would maybe return for the a la carte. It's definitely not in the michilin league for taste of food, but it is inventive and the service was excellent. They did change us for bread that we didn't even ask for without telling us there would be a fee, which I thought was not very professional. Anyway for a โฌ60 meal the bread should have just been included.
