Ropewalk Restaurant - Chincoteague Reviews from The Last Year
YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING
The food and service here were okay, but not outstanding. The reason we won’t go back is probably unjust but it really annoyed me. I ordered a Diet Coke. I was served a PITCHER of Diet Coke with a straw in it. Really? I asked the server if this was the only option because I would never drink that much. She said, “Yes. This is the way we serve it.” I was charged $3.99 for it and drank less than one third of the pitcher.
You will never lack for a great place to eat here.
I was spending one more night in the area so decided to try it. Not disappointed. They are right on the water and occupy two floors. The bottom level is the bar, dining and music level. The top floor is for dining only. Plenty of space for larger parties and children. Even though the parking lot was full there were plenty of empty tables. I ordered ice tea and the waitress brought it out in a small pitcher. I ordered the seafood Cobb salad. It had shrimp, crab, corn, bacon and arugula. It definitely filled me up. The view from upstairs was great since it had wall to wall windows and a balcony at the water.
Terrible service.
Went here with my wife at 5:00 ish for dinner. Was seated right away and then waited 15 minutes. No service. Not even drinks. Got up and left.
So Bad It’s Now a Family Joke
Every family that travels together has their war stories. Things go wrong, so you learn to laugh about it instead of letting it drag down the trip. So it was with our dinner at The Ropewalk. The menu looked promising, so we narrowed in on our selections with no warning from our smiling server of the futility to come. “We’ll start with the street corn dip.” “Sorry, we don’t have that.” “Ok, we’ll go with the fried pickles.” “We’re out.” “Huh. No starters, then. How about the fried shrimp basket?” “No shrimp, sorry.” The flounder remoulade? Nope. The bella mushroom tacos? Nope. The pasta bolognese? Our server looked relieved that we finally picked a winner…until she came back later with the bad news. No bolognese, either. In the end, we were served fried fish and scallops that appeared to be from the frozen aisle (despite the menu’s “day boat” description) and bland pasta marinara that the food runner let slip was from the kiddie menu. As a heavy traveler who has spent decades on the road for both business and leisure, I have never seen a restaurant so ill-prepared to serve its customers. The silver lining is that we now have a story.
Good, easy meal on the island
Came to Chincoteague/Assateague Islands for the weekend. Looking for an easy Friday night meal. Found this on My way into town and on Trip Advisor so I gave it a try. It was early enough that I got seated right away lively atmosphere. Bar was busy. Waitress took my drink order right away and gave me a few minutes to peruse the menu. She did a good job the whole meal, attentive without hovering. Food was hot & delicious. Live music was just getting started. Due to the weather the band was indoors where I think they usually were outdoors. I left before it got too loud. Enjoyed the meal. Would recommend
What a pleasure.
This is such a beautiful place. Great food, awesome service, nice ambiance...a little noisy, always busy, limited menu.. enough with the Reagan statues already. My husband and I enjoyed our 20th anniversary dinner here, the deadest bucket and bruschetta pasta. Our server was the same one we had when we celebrated our 19th anniversary with , very cool .Will continue to drive 200 miles for our anniversary weekend and eating at this noisy, crowded piece of paradise allowing a former president to watch us enjoy it. Great job folks
Fantastic atmosphere and food was delicious! What a spot
Fantastic atmosphere and food was delicious! What a spot for sunset! Service was excellent and attentive.
Came for an early dinner with my daughter after a fun day
Came for an early dinner with my daughter after a fun day running around the island building up our appetites and we were not disappointed! Starting with the Bada Bing Shrimp and moving on to crab cakes and crab/shrimp Mac n cheese was just what the doctor ordered. The portions were great and the flavors were amazing. I can see myself coming back and enjoying more of the options on the menu that caught our eye...like the Delmarva burger with crab dip and cheddar (drooling just thinking about it).
Wonderful ambience
Fun place with great views of the water. Staff are so pleasant too. Food was served quickly. I tried the rock fish tacos. Felt the cheddar cheese overwhelmed the flavor. Perhaps more lettuce and tomato would have been more to my liking. Potstickers had a nice taste.
I'm very upset about this experience.
We (group of 4) came here for drinks and apps and were told if we aren't going to order multiple rounds drinks and food we can't sit down anywhere but the bar. The bar was full. The waitress was about to kick us out after already being seated and waiting 20 minutes to be "waited on." She then gave us our app then brought drinks and the check together before we finished our food. I've never had such awful service. I should also note the place was half empty so they were not short on tables.

Disclaimer: This is my personal experience and is not a complete reflection of the restaurant or staff. I encourage everyone to try it for themselves. I was extremely displeased with the Ropewalk, which is a shame because in a previous time going it was lovely, but this time going was rough. We walk in, and it's a fairly busy night, with the hostess telling us it would be 45 minutes. We said okay, and then asked if we could wait for a seat near the water, the hostess proceeded to laugh in my face, and says "we'll give you what we give you". It's important to note that for Autism Awareness Day I wore a shirt signifying that I have autism and even informed the lady before our encounter. Once we got seated we waited for awhile for our drinks and food, and once we got the food it was cold, like actually cold, can't even say lukewarm. This was extremely disappointing after spending 81 dollars on an appetizer, two entrys and two waters. The only redeeming quality was A. the location and B. it happened to be BINGO night. I will most likely never return to the ropewalk.
"As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset I am in
"As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset I am in paradise" (The Kinks) Ropewalk was a great place to see the famous Chincoteague sunsets. Ropewalk is also a great place to see if you're a fan of former President Ronald Reagan, because a large statue of the Gipper greets you into the dining room, a bust of Ronnie smiles at you from behind the bar, and you can buy T-shirts of the man on the way out. Ropewalk was a great place to visit on a Monday, because its one of the few places open that day. So those are the high points. Here are the improvement opportunities: There was no one at the hostess station, so another waiting patron journeyed into the dining room to tell the staff there were people waiting to be seated. It took quite a long while for a server to take our order and a long time for the food to come out. We found Ropewalk very loud, with a few bar patrons really yukking it up. The Food: We ordered a Seafood Cobb Salad ($22) for "Field greens topped with lump crab, shrimp, bacon, bleu cheese crumbles, tomatoes and fresh corn served with your choice of dressing". It had a few shreds of crab and zero shrimp. House Salad with Added Chicken ($11 +$8). The chicken was fantastic. Tender, juicy and perfect. Iced Tea ($3.99) served in the biggest glass I've ever seen. It actually was a beer pitcher. Oreo Cheesecake ($7) -Yummy but one of the smallest slices I've ever seen. Conclusion -OK for Monday, pass on the other six days.
No better place to enjoy the sunset on the island, then on
No better place to enjoy the sunset on the island, then on the back deck at the Ropewalk! Food is always phenomenal, staff is always great but the views are unmatched!
Interesting Experience
We visited Chincoteague Island during the off season -finding open restaurants was a little of a challenge. We dined at this location our second night in the area. Staff are very friendly and quick to serve. Our food on the other hand is why it's only a 3 star review - while yes it was served hot - the breading on the shrimp was very crunchy, the slaw was good and the waffle fries were decent - my husband's grilled chicken sandwich was ok but not great - we didn't complain there was no need to - it's simply possible that it's just a difference in regions on food flavor . We did notice it seems like a lot of the locals gathered at the bar - which was nice. And one surprise we didn't know was that soft drinks and water are served in pitchers not glasses - in a way - makes sense - no need for refills. As mentioned before it may be a regional flavor difference for us and our preference on not liking the food as much as we would like to have had - we had the same experience at a different restaurant the night before as well. Or it could simply be that it's off season.
No dice
Just awful. Service was just as bad as the food. Went for my wife’s birthday and was very disappointed. Half of her meal never came and we felt ignored the whole time. Save your money and spend it on a mom and pop place.
Don't waste your money.
Service was terrible and slow...waited 30 minutes for a glass of ice. The restaurant wasn't busy and the server was inattentive. She only took our order and delivered the check...other than that, someone from the kitchen delivered the food (and glass of ice). We ordered the street corn dip as an appetizer. The tortilla chips were stale and the lukewarm dip looked like wet cement with kernels of corn. I ordered scallops that were to be served on a bed of orzo with lump crab, corn and tomatoes (according to the menu). For $36, I got 4 quarter sized scallops on about a cup of barely warm orzo. There was no lump crab, just small shards about the same size as a piece of orzo. It was underwhelming and bland. My husband ordered the stuffed flounder...he said it was ok but the portion was very small.
Slow service, hostess was not very friendly or helpful
Slow service, hostess was not very friendly or helpful seating our group of 8 with kids. My husband and I ordered the steamed lobster and shrimp basket, along with a side of vegetables. For some reason this place has no idea how long to steam their own steam baskets for... Both of our expensive meals were very rubbery and overcooked. But we had been waiting so long already for our food and being part of a group with kids we were not wanting to wait for who knows how long to get our entrees redone. The only food I enjoyed was the sausage, my daughter's fries and the side of vegetables we ordered. Everyone else's food was so-so from what I heard. I would not go back nor recommend this restaurant.
Overpriced
There were 6 of us. Three people had 2 beers each and the cost was $39.00. Can you imagine $39.00 for 6 beers. this place is way overpriced
Best food and sunsets on the island
The Ropewalk was our favorite place to eat on the island. We went once for the amazing sunset and stayed for dinner. We went back for lunch another day. The food was fresh and good value. The atmosphere was perfect for a beach community. An outside tiki bar with lots of seating and amazing views. Inside the bar is open and featured tv’s and live music. Highly recommended.
Stuffed
This is such a pleasant atmosphere in or out. Of course, the weather was perfect so we were outside. There is an interesting issue with the Sea Gulls which are quite nosy, but entertaining. Food was great all around.

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
