Royal China Club London Reviews from The Last Year
A waste of money and precious evening in London
Typical tourist trap ! Food is not Chinese but some Anglo-Chinese inventions that is not remotely authentic. Not only that Prices are high, they charged extra for everything we asked.. Hoisin sauce.. second cup of Chines tea were 4-6£ extras. We will not come back !!
Below average for the price paid
The menu was recommended by a staff who worked there. 3 courses menu for 7 people for a birthday dinner, I think the quality is well overpriced and the outside of the restaurant does have dettol smell which put me off before eating. We only have two pots of Chinese tea and cost over £100. So our bills was over £700 what a ripoff. Do not recommend to dine there
Not worth the price and service
For the quantity and quality, food was overpriced. Service wasn’t up to a great standard. Feel like service was very rushed (ex. not finished eating yet and the staff were already clearing the table).
Friends For Cantonese
Great lunch. Delicious and very authentic dim sum, lobster e fu noodles perfect and we loved the spicy beef. A perfect lunch, reminiscent of Hong Kong.
Going back!
Sublime food and excellent service. I took lady friends there, I have been to many dimsum places in London incl. yauatcha China town and normal royal China, this one definitely stands out. The dumplings tasted exquisite. We ordered normal popular ones + charcoal bun+ mango pudding Service charge was not steep considering it was Michelin. Portions not too much but go there to savour the taste not to stuff yourself Going back there to try other dishes
Terrible first impression
The women who initially 'greeted' me was incredibility rude. Firstly, she barked at me for being at the wrong reception desk (I mistakenly walked too far into the restaurant), then when I walked back to the correct area, she just stared at me a said ‘YES?’. I explained I had a reservation and gave me her my name, party number, etc and was told I didn’t have a booking and asked if I was sure I made the reservation at the Royal China Club and not Royal China. I assured her I made it at the Club and that I originally booked it for tomorrow, but then changed it to today and she again told me I wasn’t on the booking list, and I must be mistaken. I informed her that I wasn’t the one who was mistaken. She then rudely told me that there was a free table I could have despite not having a booking. After being seated and being offered a drink by a very kind waiter, she came over approximately 5 minutes later to tell me she found my reservation and apologised. I appreciated the gesture but by then was already upset due to her terrible behaviour and felt like leaving. My friend then arrived, so we stayed and ended up having a delicious lunch. The staff (other than the one above) were very attentive and kind, and the food was very good. The only reason for the two star was because of the awful behavior of the women at the reception (she was THAT bad).
Great Food - Terrible Service
I’ve been coming here for 25 years but the service is just too difficult to stomach now. They don’t give enough basic dipping sauce for your £200 of dim sum and argue when you ask for a reasonable amount to go with your food. It’s just petty. One of the dishes was horrendously awful - inedible disgusting, and they told us they would be charging us even if we didn’t like it. On top of that they add 15% service to your bill. Sorry Royal China Club - no more for me. I’m off to Yautcha and Ming Jiang. 1996-2023
Excellent Chinese Food
Reservations necessary as the place is busy. There are two halls on either side of entry and a few private rooms for diners. The place is a bit noisy due to the loud conversations by the diners. The decor is very simple and the tables are very close to each other. The bar menu is good but there is a very limited choice of beer. The service is very slow especially after 7 PM due to high occupancy even on a week day evening. The menu has a good choice of vegetarian and non vegetarian food. The plates are hot and the dishes are served in metal plates which are hot and heavy so one has to be careful. Starters are served hot and are good in taste especially the mixed fried Dimsum which was a actually in form of rolls and not of typical Dimsum shape. The taste of all the main dishes we had was good especially chicken with peppercorn and spinach and chicken with red chillies and mock chicken for vegetarians. Prices are on the higher side due to it being a fine dining place.
Not to write home about
Expensive. Food not bad. Distant service. I spent £163 for two courses and three glasses of wine. The HK style prawns were good but on the tough side. The main course of chasiu and rice was good but it did not combine well with the starter (my mistake). A selection of wines by the glass to be improved. The service was a bit distant perhaps because they were busy or because of language barriers, but for this price you would expect to be pampered a bit more. Overall I would go to Kai or to Min Jiang for a better experience.
Horrible service and too pricy for what you get out of it!
Greeted by super sulky waitress. A table of 4 pax and she lead us to the smallest table of the restaurant. I asked to change to a slightly bigger round table and luckily we got it. I thought maybe the timing of our entrant met her worst timing, hence I did change my impression to their service. Unfortunately the next one who came to take our orders had another unhappy face. Services continued to be as poor as it could be. How disappointing that they could not put up a smiling face to their same race and to their customers. Banging and clanging of ceramic cutleries like the very old outdated Chinese restaurants of the 70s… in this restaurant that claimed itself as a ‘club’ - what is the meaning behind this concept? All their female waitresses provided the worst attitudes. Young ones who apparently are students working as part time were normal. Food wise - no big deal at all. Similar tastes as the other Chinese restaurants in London. Prices are slightly more expensive than Royal China without the word ‘club!’ They told me because their dishes are more special. As a Chinese myself, I don’t taste anything unique and exceptional. I won’t recommend to come at all unless you are looking for a poor service with bad attitude.

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
