Fantastic! Sat at bar, a delight!
My friend and I finally made it to the cafe. I'm a long time patron of the delicatessen, so this was a special treat to get to the cafe. Absolutely love the decor. Our waiter behind the bar couldn't have been friendlier, and what a genuine smile on that guy! Lit up the room. And he seemed to genuinely enjoy what he was doing. That always shows through. We had lunch and cocktails. I love the menu. Fantastic selection. Drink menu is so special. We had the smoked martini and Lower East Side. Delish. For food we had the mushroom barley and smoked whitefish chowder (omg yes!) that came with a piece of matzoh. Delish again. And we shared the challah bread pudding which comes out warm. What can I say but this restaurant is doing everything right. Will be back!
Be the first to ReplyRuss and Daughters was packed at 8:30 am on a weekday & serving alcohol - seriously
My first stop after dropping off my luggage in New York is Russ & Daughters, no matter where I am staying in the city. Russ and Daughters has changed and I am not sure it is for the better. We were there on a weekday at 8:30 when they opened and I was asked 3 times if I wanted an alcoholic drink. The ingredients are still great but the quantity has decreased. We felt we should have ordered more this time. I will definitely return next month, order online and continue to suggest friends visit - but perhaps not as enthusiastically as in the past.
Be the first to ReplyFull retro diner look, while also staying true to the original Russ & Daughters
Theyโve done a fantastic job with the space, giving it the full retro diner look, while also staying true to the original R&D; vibe. They serve breakfast all day, including eggs, bagels, smoked fish, matzoh ball soup, and all kinds of Jewish comfort food. All the classic bagel sandwiches come laid out on photogenic wood boards, which youโve no doubt seen in your Instagram feed. โค๏ธ
Be the first to ReplyHot matzoh ball soup on a cold day
Dropped in for lunch after visiting the Tenement Museum. Everything on the menu sounded delicious, and from what I saw, the food was amazingly authentic with an upscale flare. The matzoh ball soup was exactly what I needed on a cold day. Wish I lived closer, but plan to return next trip to NYC.

This was my first time to their Cafe. It was a great experience. The service was attentive and friendly. The seating was comfortable. My platter was great. The lox had great flavor and the bagel was awesome. I am glad i added the latke. Ni complaints at all.
Be the first to ReplyLatkes to die for
We had an amazing lunch here today. I had chopped liver and matzoh and my husband had the chopped herring. We shared a portion of their superb latkes. Our server Hoyt was efficient and friendly and overall it was a great experience.

Although they take no reservations, a walk around the neighborhood for 45 minutes until our table was ready kept us occupied. The food was excellent, atmosphere unique, and a place we would visit again. Really enjoyed the smoked salmon and the baked salmon, as well as their latkes. A treat compared what what is available in our hometown. Will visit again.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced tourist trap
Horribly overpriced - not worth it. Vast majority of people who go to the cafe are tourists - what does that tell you?
Be the first to ReplyAs good an experience as you can get in NYC
I wanted real NYC Jewish food and I believe I got it here. Wondrous lox, fantastic rye bread and the herring selection outstanding. Our waiter was a real find too. One of the reasons I would go back to NYC. A lot of disappointments, but this one lived up to the billing. Not cheap I have to say, but still highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyOne-of-a-kind Experience
This is the most quintessential NYC experience Iโve had since I moved to NY in 1990. We had outstanding food, service, and felt very much like part of the Russ family. Make sure to try to the amazing latkes and fresh smoked fish. Special note: I had an out-of-town guest staying with me, and we happened to walk into the cafe the very day that the 4th generation Russ family was launching their reopening. Not only did they invite us to stay, but they fed us for free and included us in their speeches and family celebrations. We will always feel a connection to this very special place and to Niki Russ Federman, whom we hugged as we departed, wished good luck, and promised to return soon.
Be the first to ReplyWhoa -- classic, high end NYC Deli
This is a small shop served by eight staff and it's packed with customers. Take a number at the front door. The food (smoked salmon bagel) was perfect. The food selection is amazing. Well worth the visit. No where to sit - it's all "take away".

Though the cafe has not yet reopened for dining in, I have been ordering delivery to The Ludlow Hotel my last few visits to NYC and everything has been just as it should be: DELICIOUS. Lox on an everything bagel, bottled Bloody Mary, chopped liver and matzoh ball soup - all perfect and delivered quick.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Breakfast
We went for breakfast and sat outside. It's nice that there are tables outside so we could still eat there. We ordered on our phone and it came out really quickly. The potato latkes were delicious. My boyfriend really enjoyed his bagel with cream cheese, salmon and capers. I got the assortment of the chocolate and raspberry cookies and they were very good. We also got a chocolate babka to bring home. I'd never had chocolate babka before. I loved it. It's definitely best the same day if you're just eating it plain. I'd definitely recommend stopping by Russ & Daughters if you're in the neighborhood.
Be the first to ReplyGreat little bagel cafe
Great place to have a bagel and a cup of coffee. The salmon is great with it. I also had the matzo ball soup - also excellent.
Be the first to ReplyDon't Go
Visiting NYC for the day I was so excited to go to the restaurant my parents grew up with. I was shocked to find nasty young ladies in charge, well it didn't matter we were there for the food. I was shocked again when my bagel was delivered cold and stale - there are only a few items on the menu and it's mainly a bagel shop so I have no idea why the bagels are cold or stale. I guess it's just a famous name now - too popular to serve fresh food. I can't tell you how disappointed we were. Waste of money and time!
Be the first to ReplyRude and stale
Condescending workers , stale bagel, never go back...........The hostess was very rude when I asked about the menu talk to us like children and very impatient The bagel was very hard and small
Be the first to ReplyExcellent start of the day
We specifically came to Russ & Daughters Cafe for breakfast. Took us a long time but it was worth it.
We wanted to try their classics so we went for bagel with lox salmon, eggs with salmon and latkes and a variation of classic bagel, with a salmon substituted with smoked whitefish.
It all came very fast and the presentation was great as well. Bagels and smoked fish are served on wooden board.
Both smoked salmon and smoked whitefish were very tasty and flavorful. The combination of bagels with whipped cream cheese, tomatoes, capers and smoked fish was pure classic.
Latkes were great as well.
Please note they donโt have any espresso coffee at the cafe but the regular coffee they serve comes hot and is refilled promptly.
We enjoyed the service by our waiter, who was very nice, courteous and prompt.
All in all it was a great experience and a perfect start to our long day.
Definitely recommend.
The hostess ruined our experience.
The hostess ruined our experience. Horrible service, rude, childish, and worth firing. We got there with a babyโ no wait and she sat us at a large table. A friend came to join on her birthday and the hostess lost it, wouldnโt let her order, caused a scene and acted beyond rude and immature. Yes the food is fab but Iโd never give the restaurant my money if the short hair brunette is working as the face when you walk in. too many options in nyc to employee such a mess.

We were on our way to the Tenement Museum and had heard about this place on our food tour. Great selection of smoked salmon and a really tasty bagel.

I could eat here all day every day forever.
Everything on the menu is amazing.
The room is beautiful.
Knishes, caviar, smoked herring, egg cream, sodas.
We didnโt want it to stop.
Our waiter, who had a moustache and wire framed specs was just brilliant.
This was our best meal in New York by a long way.
I would come back just to eat here.
Perfect.
