Great restaurant find in New Port
We had a fabulous meal at The Rusty Pelican. Zoomer went above and beyond to make our experience wonderful. The rain was putting a damper on our day and he brightened it up with a great table by the window to see all the boats at the marina. His suggestions for our meals were spot on. Highly recommend going here.

My girlfriend and I stopped in at Rusty's for dinner. We had the special which was delicious a little pricey. However we had a nice table with the view of the water and Marina. We also enjoyed Eric who was our waiter. And the service was good as well. Definitely worth a try. Parking is limited and you can only valet park unless you park across the street.

We had a wonderful dinner at Rusty Pelican last night. Our servers were Ryan and Joel and they gave us great service as usual. We always have great food and service there. We will definitely be going back! I highly recommend this restaurant.

We havenโt been able to get back here in years but weโre thrilled that itโs the same great drinks and food as always! The view is amazing and the servers were fun and knowledgeable. You canโt beat the food!

We met with friends here, all mature age(d). The owner and waitress were fantastic. The word service and hospitality are practiced in the sense of those words. Well done team Rusty Pelican. The service was perfectly paved, not to slow and not too fast. Drink service was prompt and the wine selection is excellent and fits the menu to perfection. All our dishes were cooked to perfection and very tasty. We are very frequent restaurant visitors not only in California but truly global. Some of us had Chilean lemon caper butter sea bass, others had the excellent halibut and a few had crustaceans. The salmon and lobster sauce was perfect. The dishes came hot as intended and the portion size was excellent without being overwhelmingly large. The crab cakes are a must! For sure we will return here. Not sure about the $7 valet service for lunch. If you offer valet, make sure you have ample staff. For a weekday lunch I recommend park across the street or along the road for free. This might be different at night.

Apparently being a Landry member doesn't mean anything at this location. Be sure to ask the parking attendant if they are taking walk ins. 11:44am isn't early enough for a quick lunch. Manager was dismissive.

Patio dining overlooking the harbor. Friendly, helpful staff. One plate was delayed, and we were offered a free dessert to compensate. The tacos were especially good value. Valet parking, but free parking across the street behind C'est si Bon bakery

Recently visited the Rusty Pelican for Dinner and had a lovely experience. The staff were all really friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Seafood
My family of four went there for dinner one evening during our stay. Our server, Chad, was great and provided some recommendations for drinks and main courses. The food was fresh and delicious, but a bit pricey. My family ordered the swordfish, lobster, scallops and shrimp, and the filet. The seafood was cooked to perfection. The filet, while ordered medium-well, was a little underdone, but still tender, nonetheless. My 15 yo gobbled it up. We did have to remind them about the side of shrimp. We would definitely come back and the view on the second floor is worthwhile! P.S. - you will have to pay for valet parking.

We always come and dine here whenever we come and visit Cali with my family. Service was superb and food all tasty.
Be the first to ReplyUnaccommodating
We visit Newport Beach every 12-18 months, and we always make a reservation in advance at Rusty Pelican. On April 28, we had a 6:15 reservation but arrived early at 4:30 after an afternoon appointment was cancelled. We thought that we would have a couple of drinks at the bar and take in the scenery until 6:15. When we entered, the somewhat-unpleasant lady at the hostess desk told us that the bar was closed for a private party. But when we asked to be seated at a table [in the dining area or on the deck] so we could have drinks, she replied, "I can't tie up a table for an hour and 45 minutes!" Excuse me???? We want to sit and have a couple of drinks [and run up a bar bill] while waiting for our reservation, but she's telling us that we "can't tie up a table" when there is NO ONE in the dining area that we can see. She said that we could go next door to Billy's for drinks. So, we went next door to Billy's [which was rockin'] where we were greeted by a crew of smiling, friendly and accommodating servers and where the drinks were perfect and the food was delicious. Thanks to the recommendation from the unaccommodating Rusty Pelican hostess, we have a new favorite restaurant in Newport Beach!

We were a party of 8 and enjoyed a long relaxing lunch on the deck overlooking the bay. The food was excellent from the salads to fresh fish tacos and the desserts were off the charts delicious. The staff was fast and friendly and we canโt wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplyThe Rusty Pelican is Good But Feels Past Its Prime
Lets be clear. The RP ticks all the boxes. Great location. Pleasant nautical theme decor. Good service. Good food. All good. But the room is a touch cramped and just feels dated. Given the location, I was expecting higher prices. So for what you get the RP is a decent value. I suspect it's more popular with tourists than locals. I note that our server probably had two too many tables, but every place is short-staffed these days so I really cannot blame the management or the server. Bottom line, you'll like the RP once but you'll feel no urgent need to return.

No Corona distancing
Food was nice. Service definitely need to improve. Main concern was that the density of seating was totally crazy as if there was no Corona. Totally unacceptable!!
Be the first to ReplyGreat place to take family and friends.
We have always enjoyed meeting up with family and friends for dinner here. They also have valet parking.
Be the first to ReplyGood Food, Excellent Service
The restaurant feels dated, but the food was good and our service was excellent. Even though the restaurant was busy, our server was attentive and insured our drinks were delivered quickly. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and the temperature was hot. Be prepared to wait for a table, the restaurant is busy most nights.

Itโs been a while since I had dined here snd was looking forward to a nice brunch on the waterfront
Inattentive and poor service
Mixed up appetizer order
Incorrect brunch order
Having to ask the server to receive change
The valet expecting g a tip on top of the mandatory gratuity they charge before getting your car keys handed back to you
Extremely disappointing especially as they have been so impressive in all these areas in the past
The food was good
Unbelievably horrible experience.
Waiter wore his mask under his chin. Reached across us while serving. Dirty water and wine glasses. Expensive, cold food. Worst dinner of our trip to NB.

My husband and I decided to try something new. Well, itโs nothing specialโฆ$6 valet is the only close parking option. 20 min wait without a reservation. Not enough outdoor seaside/marina seating, that was an hour+ wait. We looked over the menu and decided on the Salmon/shrimp Firepot and Swordfish. Both were undercooked and it was drowning in sauce. Simple rice or mashed potato side for $23 and up. Too much $$ for the lazy plating. I donโt mind spending money on a good fresh meal, but this fish seemed like it came out of the freezer, baked and then sauced. The restaurant is at the marina but the fishy smell was very intense in the restaurant.

Guys, we fully support resturants emerging out of covid. They've all suffered. But it was so hard to understand this eperience.
We were seated and reviewed the drink menu. 10 minutes... no waiter. 15 minutes... no one. 20 minutes... no one. 25 minutes we got up and left. Why? How? Who does this at a resturant that is going to cost us over 200 bucks for dinner. Not even an attempt by the waiter to say "hey i'll be there in a minute."
The place was not full at all. No big parties. I'm sure you could walk in and be seated. many empty seats. It was so frustrating to have no one come over to us. We NEVER walk out of places but it made no sense to put up with being ignored. We walked to Taco Bell and had the best cheap dinner.
Hoping that the managment doesn't come back with a phalanx of excuses. There is none. The place wasn't nearly full and no big occassions going on. There's just no good reason for this but bad service. Ugh. Sorry guys. Avoid this place.

Great lunch with a view and the boats of the rich and famous from Newport. Try the daily specials with a glass of wine recommended Meuter Media
Be the first to ReplyBirthday Dinner
We had a wonderful time at The Rusty Pelican. We came for my wife's birthday dinner, while I had a reservation, we did not mention anything about it being a birthday.
Our waitress was wonderful, and took care of us and our 2 kids. Like I said earlier we never mentioned that it was her birthday, but we got a little birthday surprise at the end of our meal. They may have overheard the kids :)
Food was wonderful, I had the swordfish flagship and really enjoyed it. Kids had the lobster mac and cheese that was so tasty! The garlic bread and broccolini is also really good.
I can't even recommend a dish because I am sure its all tasty.
