Saffron De Twah has been high on my list since I heard about a Moroccan restaurant opening in Detroit. It survived COVID and my friend and I were excited to check it out. As others have mentioned, the exterior does not look like much, it looks more like a construction site than a highly rated restaurant. But once you open the wooden doors to the enclosed patio, the scenery changes. They have created a good sized patio, which is good as the interior is small. We ended up inside due to the humid day. The decor is sparse, I did like the succulent wall, but I was a bit disappointed that there was not more to the interior. We started with tea service, I had the mint, it came with the traditional glasses and an individual, ornate pot that the server poured for you. Slight complaint that the temp was more warm than hot. The potatoes read as a must order, so we shared these and the carrot salad. Oh, the flavor! Each was completely different, the carrots were light and fresh, mixing sweet and acid. The potatoes were just the right amount or heat, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Other reviewers are completely right, get the potatoes. The chicken sandwich they have become known for was not offered that day, I was told they have it as a special that pops up. The menu is not large, but it had what I had been wanting. Lamb tagine was my favorite dish I had in Morocco and Saffrons version was wonderful. My friend had the falafel matellas. This is a sandwich with falafel and lots of fresh veggies. It also came with a grain soup. Compared to everything else so was so packed with flavor, the soup was much quieter, but we both agreed we liked it. While the sandwich was good, we both agreed the tagine was outstanding, dream about, and come back again for. It managed to be flavorful, light, but with rich lamb. Between the veggies, meat, couscous, and yogurt sauce, everything was perfectly balanced. I do not normally go for dessert after such a filling meal, but I had heard good things about their ricotta cheesecake and it sounded interesting, so I ordered a price it go. My friend is really not a sweets person, but she had a couple bites after tasting how good it was. There is no crust, rather it is formed into a bar. Creamy, and textured the ricotta keeps it from being too sweet and much lighter than the usual cheesecake. It's topped with a tart cherry mixture.I thought it was nice that the owner/chef came by to check in, that's pretty unusual. He appeared invested in his guests enjoying themselves. The service was excellent as well. You order and pay on the app, which was different, but are greeted by a service and they are more attentive than average. Overall, fabulous meal and we both plan to return!Note: They do not serve alcohol. We stopped at Two Birds that was close by prior to dinner.
