Excellent service w a knowledgeable server for wines.
The food was uniformly delicious and inventive. Honestly we had so many dishes from duck kabob to cabbage Caesar salad to crunchy tuna tartare one better than the next. Fun atmosphere w easy parking. We'll be back!

A great place for an anniversary or an occasion, but definitely not a place to frequent. The quality of food is great and the vibe is spectacular, but it's really easy to spend $150+ for two people and still leave hungry.
Be the first to ReplyThe best meal I've had in years.
Can't recommend highly enough. It can be hard to get a reservation but it's worth it - they also apparently take walk ins at the bar.
Be the first to ReplyThis review is for the Sarma x The Grateful Bagel breakfast
This review is for the Sarma x The Grateful Bagel breakfast collaboration on 2024/03/02. The overall experience was a 3/5 for me, but since this was a one-time event, I am keeping the 5/5 rating for the dine-in experience. Pre-orders were supposed to go live at midnight, but Sarma had an issue with Toast that resulted in people not being able to place their orders until 12:15 AM. Once ordering was available, everything sold out within a minute. This resulted in a lot of tired, angry people. Luckily, I was constantly refreshing the page and was able to place my order. Although technical difficulties are expected: 1. Sarma should have posted a status immediately to let people know that they were working with Toast to resolve the issue. A message was eventually posted but after 10 minutes of radio silence. 2. The link should have been shared (with ordering disabled) beforehand so that people could read the description for each item (only the menu item names had been shared) and to prevent all of the questions asking for the link. Now for the food: - Biscuit Spanikopita ($12): This was my favorite of the things I ordered. The spinach and feta filling was creamy and savory but very thick, so I could only eat half. The biscuit was buttery and held up well. - Egg and Cheese Brik ($10): Didn't like this. The outermost layer was flaky and flavorful, but the rest of the pastry had a tough, stale texture. The egg was runny but nothing special. I liked the hummus that was provided. - Sesame Fried Chicken & Grits ($18): Tbh, I ordered this because I read that it came with black sea cornbread, which is my favorite from Sarma's dinner menu. Sadly, it was only a small piece of cornbread but still tasted as good as I remembered. The fried chicken is also from the dinner menu and was also still good. I've never had grits before, but they added texture more so than flavor. I didn't like the bacon bits. The gravy that was provided tasted ok, but I preferred eating the chicken on its own. - Chicken Shawarma ($15): I didn't like the bagel because it was way too tough, but the chicken was juicy, and I liked the spicy tahini cream cheese. Overall, the breakfast food was just as expensive as the dinner items but half as good, so I'm disappointed. Maybe the food would have tasted better fresh, but this was a take-out only event, so the menu should have taken into consideration items that would be suitable for that. I probably wouldn't do Sarma Breakfast again, but I'll definitely be back for dinner sometime.

Not impressed with the food or the noisy atmosphere, tables cramped next to each other~ over spicing the food does not allow to taste the protein or vegetables in the dish. Menu selection was overwhelming 50 items to choose from ~ server was helpful ~ Friday, 6:30pm reservation ~ $250. tab for 4 pp ~ no plans to return. Lots of hype

One of the best restaurants in Boston! Loved their fried chicken dish and their Black Sea cornbread is a must! So savory and sweet Usually hard to find a good reservation time so both of the times I've been I've walked in right at 5 to be seated at the bar with no wait! Should probably get there a little before 5 if you really want to secure the seating though! Ambiance of the bar was great the service was amazing and they had good beers to pair with the food! Amazing stuff overall
Be the first to ReplyWe have moved closer and have since come to Sarma probably
We have moved closer and have since come to Sarma probably over six times in the last year or so. It still is one of the best restaurants in New England period, let alone Boston or Somerville. The ambiance is casual, modern, and Mediterranean vibes. The most recent menu items we enjoyed, though the menu rotates often, were the scallops in tamarind sauce, the yam kipur, lamb crunch rolls, and Turkish calamari. My husband and I always finish with the mint tea which has proven time and time again to be the way to do it. I would recommend probably 4-5 dishes for 2 people. The bread options don't generally come with the dips or shmears, so don't order those assuming that. Service has always been really good, but in our experience it has been better at the bar than the tables. We often get in without a reservation by waiting outside the restaurant in line before it opens, but for a larger party make a reservation!
Be the first to ReplySarma was a wonderful experience.
The waitstaff is knowledgeable, timely and kind. There is a beautiful atmosphere and it is very elegant. The food was quick and delicious! Our waiter let us know to order about 4-6 plates for two people. We got 5 plates and it was the perfect amount of food. We ordered the scallops, pork belly biscuits, tuna tartar, steak gyros, and the fried chicken. The fried chicken was incredible! And the steak melted in my mouth. The only item I wasn't as impressed with was the pork belly. It was a little dry and bland compared to the incredible taste of everything else. All in all would highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyI was so excited to go here, but was very disappointed.
The food was very over spiced and it seemed like the spices were the same in several dishes. It was really not edible. The drink menu was good, wine was good, service was OK and ambience was fine but nothing remarkable. Way overpriced, and would never go back. I can do better at home.

A sister establishment to the Oleana restaurant and the Sofra bakery in Cambridge, Sarma features a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean theme, drawing not only on the region's rich tapestry of mezze (tapas-sized dishes and spreads) but also the owner's global travels and influences.Sarma has been going strong for almost 10 years and is as popular now as ever, if a couple of recent visits were any indication. Table seating should be reserved well in advance via their website, while bar seating is first-come, first-served.On my first try, 5:30pm on a Friday, all the bar seats had long been taken up, one-third of them by a large party with kids and strollers in tow, jamming whatever open space there was at their section of the bar. Perhaps there should be limits on the sizes of parties that can be accommodated at the bar? Since everyone had just sat down at time - half an hour after opening - and because I was super hungry, I wasn't willing to wait.Fortunately, I kept Sarma on my Yelp bookmarks and finally found the time to stop by, right at opening time, on a mid-week evening. This time there was less commotion at the bar, which didn't fill up until around 6pm. I found the bartenders and servers to be somewhat distant yet knowledgeable about the cuisine and the menu, and I quickly devoured a couple of drinks and mezze. The avocado muhummara with burrata and pistachio crisp, for example, was an interesting twist on what, for me, has often been a rich, intense dip filled with pomegranate, bell pepper, and walnut flavors. In this case, the avocado did much to balance the dip's spiciness and add a super creamy texture to it. Meanwhile, the sirloin souvlaki punched above its petite size, featuring plenty of juicy, savory, well-marinated chunks of beef alongside garlicky escarole, eggplant, and kalamata olive. Finally, the crab tiropites were a bit underwhelming given their price, as they were small, morsel-sized pieces of buttered phyllo with small amounts of smoked cream cheese inside. So small that I barely noticed the presence of jalapenos and scallions. Overall, a mostly solid experience that's fairly unique for the Boston area - one that brings to mind the many solid neighborhood establishments I've been spoiled with during my many years of living in New York and the Bay Area.
Be the first to ReplyJust yummy, so yummy.
Expensive but everything we had was delicious and that's few and far between these days.

The best restaurant in the Boston area! The menu changes frequently and it never disappoints. Don't forget to try the cornbread!
Be the first to ReplyAlways great, service is friendly and professional.
Menu is varied and interesting. Worth a visit.
Be the first to ReplyI really wish I could continue saying good things.
The service is terrible. Cancelled my reservation without letting me know, especially when I bought my handicap mom here. Will never recommend. 0 stars.
Be the first to ReplyI've been gatekeeping this restaurant for years because I
I've been gatekeeping this restaurant for years because I love it so much and it's hard enough to get a reservation - you'll be lucky if you find anything 2 weeks in advance and I don't want to make it even more difficult for myself by spreading the word lol! But.... In honor of women's history month, I will stop the gatekeeping because owner Cassie Piuma is an utter genius - the menu changes seasonally and it is always diverse, creative and smart. Over the years, some of the most memorable dishes I've ever had are from Sarma, which include a mushroom truffle/saffron dish, pomegranate ribs, a shirazi salad with cucumber sorbet, mushroom brik, a sumac cocktail... I can go on forever. I also really appreciate the fusion factor, it's so cool to see ingredients I love (mainly used in middle eastern cooking) used in a creative way. Things to know: everything is tapas style, the menu has a little dictionary for terms/ingredients that might not be familiar to most, the bar is your best bet if you're going to walk-in, dishes range from $15-$30, ambiance is casual yet modern.
Be the first to ReplyMany amazing gluten free options with a dedicated menu.
The staff was extreme gracious and helped mark off more options for eggs as well. Did not leave feeling hungry at all. The space is rather large and open and in the winter can get chilly so bring a jacket. Highly recommend for dinner when the in-laws are in town or for a nice date night with a partner or friends!
Be the first to ReplyThis review is hard to leave.
I was really excited about Sarma. Lots of veggies options & lots of people have told me about it and rave about it. We started with the gyro bread and the Tuna Nayeh which was absolutely delicious! The Tuna Nayeh was so colorful, fresh & you could feel a vibration in your mouth from all the textures. The portion was generous as well! After that we got the mushroom Fritti and the lentil nachos & that's when things turned the other way, presentation was great & lots of good stuff in there but way too salted, we couldn't finish any of it because of the amount of sodium. Then came the Halloumi tostones & the gnocchis, again great presentation and lots of good stuff but wayyyy too salted, we could only have a spoon each of the gnocchi. Maybe something happened last night and it's not always like that? But it will be hard for me to give it a 2nd chance. It's rare that I don't finish a plate especially when hungry. The wine list was great, my partner enjoyed the verdicchio & I had a lemonade that was also great! Their mocktails list wasn't impressive. The atmosphere was great, the decor was nice & it was clean. The service was ok.
Be the first to ReplyHas always been our favorite restaurant in Somerville.
At our last visit, I filled out the check wrong. I wrote $30 extra into the total, beyond the tip. They could have charged this and added it to their tip. Instead they recognized my mistake, and changed the total for me. Three cheers for insanely delicious food and HONEST business practices. You rock, Sarma.

I completely understand all of the hype around this place, but if it's accurate is it even hype? Get the chicken fritters if they come around with them. Every bite was to die for, despite being busy the restaurant was not too loud, the service was at a great pace for small plates/tapas too and the servers were very knowledgeable about the menu.
Be the first to ReplySarma was a wonderful dinner experience! Thé menu is tapas
Sarma was a wonderful dinner experience! Thé menu is tapas style & plates are meant to be shared. Very interesting mix of flavors but all delicious! There are no substitutions or changes so go in knowing everything will be served as is! Including drinks! If you have any allergies, there are a few options available. Highlights of the meal were the corn bread & the crispy chicken to start!

I don't know that Sarma needs another 5 star review but they def earned it tonight! I was dining solo after a long day of work- was quickly seated at the bar. Addy and all of her crew were beyond amazing from start to finish. They even "forgot" to charge me for one of my beers and when I pointed it out, they said it's on them. The crab dip was spectacular! A must order! The brussel sprouts are a staple and I did enjoy the duck but had a quite a bit of food by then to fully enjoy it. Service, food/drinks, and atmosphere are top notch!

Arabic fusion with some interesting twists is how I would describe this restaurant. I am sure you won't find similar combos any where else. I mean lentil nachos...not that common. Definitely stop by!
Be the first to ReplyBest restaurant in Boston.
I won't let it lose a star although I don't like yogurt but they accommodate me every time and cross out the dishes with yogurt. Great service and great food.
