Our Waiter, Andres G, was a Thief!
My wife and I visited Scarpetta for a bow of pasta and a drink before a show on Sunday 18th of February 2024. I donโt tend to leave a lot of reviews however felt compelled to share our experience with others on this occasion. We arrived just before our reservation time and was instructed by the austere โhostessโ that our table wasnโt ready and we could sit in the bar and have a drink. We didnโt mind this, I enjoyed a beer and my wife a Diet Coke in a lovely bar area. When I came to pay the server behind the bar said they didnโt take Apple Pay so my wife gave a debit card over and the bar tender said the Diet Coke was โon the houseโ. What a lovely gesture we thought (upon checking our bank we discovered that the barman had added an extra $5 on to this transaction so not exactly on the house). We wouldnโt have noticed this had we not checked our bank account due to what was to unfold next. Once our table was ready we were ushered through to the restaurant and introduced to our waiter, Andres G. The restaurant itself looked very nice, well decorated, perfect lighting and great ambience. We came to order our food from Andres G which is where things started to go wrong. His attitude was nonchalant/uninterested at best and his seemed noticeably irked every time he was asked a question about the menu. My wife and I werenโt particularly that bothered by Andresโ attitude as despite the obvious shortcomings in the front of house staff, we really liked the restaurant and weโre looking forward to our food. When the food arrived it was delicious, home made pasta, flavoursome and cooked perfectly. The only issue was that Andres looked at me like I was from Mars when I asked if I could have some Parmesan and by the time he had returned with it, half of my meal had been eaten. The wine too was served at the perfect temperature however as it was white it had to be stored in an ice bucket which wasnโt kept at our table so you can imagine how it went down with Andres when we asked for our glasses to be topped up. When it came time to pay the bill it finally arrived and we were told again, no Apple Pay and that we had to hand over our debit card as their card terminal was behind a curtain on the far side of the restaurant. Andres took our card and arrived 5 minutes later with a receipt for $163.32, not bad value but I decided not to tip as I thought his attitude and service was poor. The next morning I was looking at our online bank and notice that he had actually put the transaction through twice! I was obviously annoyed about this so the next day we workout time out of our day to go back to Scarpetta to speak to the manager who claimed that as the transactions were pending, one would go and gave us a break down from their system to show that we had only paid $163.32 + a $20 for Andres! I mentioned to the manager that we did not authorise the tip and I wanted it refunding and he assured me that within a couple of days everything would be resolved. At the time of writing one transaction (including Andrรฉsโs tip) has gone through and the other transaction for the original price is still pending in our account. We are still in New York for the next 2 weeks as the trip is partly for work so if this isnโt sorted in the next day or so we will have to return to Scarpetta for a 3rd time. This situation has been a shambles, we usually a the minimum of 20% when in NYC but on this occasion weโre so disappointed by the attitude of our waiter that we decided not to, only for him to help himself. The issue is that many will fall for this type of scam, for example, if I had paid on my business card, I just hand the statements straight to our accounts department and Andrรฉsโs scam would go unnoticed. I will amend this review if there is a satisfactory resolution, if not it will remain the same. Please be careful when dining in Scarpetta and always check your statement/bills.

Moms in town, so you KNOW we eatin good! One of the partners at her company has impeccable food taste, so I knew Scarpetta was going to deliver. I am going to tell a story in one second, but before 99% of you tune out I MUST highlight the affogato served in a martini glass. WHAT A TOUCH! This is the kind of innovation that pushes all of human-kind forward. Okay, story-time: When the waitress pitched us on how good their basic spaghetti is, I knew that would easily get Mom. She loves a good simple dish done well. However, Moms is in that phase in her life where she doesn't give one single F. She is currently in her whole fake gluten free era for the past few weeks because she wants to look good for Cannes. I mean I can respect that. She asked the waitress if they could do gluten free spaghetti and she nodded in agreement. She failed to mention that it would be a penne instead of a spaghetti noodle. When the dish came, I knew it was bad. I saw them put the penne down and prayed to the good lord Jesus Christ that they gave Mom the wrong dish, and that was her initial thought as well. When the server said "the only gluten free pasta we have is penne," a chill was sent through my bones. Mom gave me the quick look with a clenched closed mouth smile with raised eyebrows as if to say "DEY DISRESPECTING ME YEEE WOOT IS DIS BOLLOCKS MATE?" ahahaha okay yeah no my mother doesn't talk like that it was more of a "well this sucks. Why would they not tell me that before?" She waits until the server is done explaining something, and then says "I'm really not mad, but just wish I would have known it would have been penne instead of the spaghetti noodle. I really thought I was getting a spaghetti noodle." I was sitting there looking away embarrassed af, and look to see the partner having the same reaction I did ahahahaha. I mean but like I do feel her that would be annoying, but I would just take that one on the chin at this point in my life. However, to Scarpetta's credit, the manager Armando came over and sweet talked my mom apologizing like 4 times. He was a little too smooth tbh. I'm watching you Armando.....ahahahaha I'm just joshin but, as a customer that is all you can ask for from a business. I absolutely adored my Cavatelli, which was a braised lamb pasta that slapped harder than Damien Dibbell. Overall, I had a fantastic experience here and it is now in my top 2 Italian spots in NYC. Tourist trap- I guess it depends on the level of food you are used to. We got the octopus appetizer, and short rib ; not much flavor. Entree, my husband got lamb pasta, it was so sweet, they add sugar to their food. I got Branzino , it was good I would never recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyNice family meal
Food, ambiance, and service all very good. It was expensive for pasta dishes but four of us had different entrees and all were quite good. Restrooms were not conveniently located. Long walk through the hotel lobby to a lower level.

Scarpetta is a place of contrasts. On the culinary front, the experience was mixed. The food, while good, didn't quite reach the heights of excellence I had hoped for. The dishes were well-prepared with decent flavors, but they lacked that special something that sets them apart from the competition. Scarpetta is a go-to spot for the ambiance, but the food left me craving a bit more. Whether it's for a cocktail night or another meal, I'll be back to soak in the delightful interior.
Be the first to ReplyGood but not great
Where do I start. Firstly, this is one of the those places where it seems a reservation time is only ever approximate and you will in practice wait until they find you a table. We arrived a little early to be told it would be a short wait, which then became a longer wait and finally an even longer wait, it was 35 minutes after our reservation that they finally found us a table. Secondly, be prepared for a chaotic feel, largely as there will be so many people milling around waiting for their tables, just getting to the front desk was a challenge. The front of house team are incredibly polished and very skilled at saying nothing and avoiding any commitment over your table, whilst they try to (excuse the pun) keep the plates spinning. Great to be directed to the bar, but when the bar and every square inch of the front of house area are full, it doesnโt really help, even if it comes with a smile. The menu is what Iโd describe as Italian high class bistro, no pizza here but finessed pasta, fish and meat options. It has a really buzzy atmosphere and was filled with noisy conversation and chatter. Service, once beyond the glitz and vagueness of the front desk, was really good.. fast, friendly, attentive. Food portions are small, but the dishes were presented beautifully and the food was very tasty. Overall, notwithstanding the wait, it was good. But hereโs the thing, I prefer restaurants that do a great job but are humble and/or donโt realise how great they are. When itโs the other way round, i.e they think they are better than they really are, it just feels pretentious. A lot to be liked here, but they need to sort the front of house and remove the ambiguity. As a customer, Iโd much rather hear that Iโm likely to have a 30 minute wait, than to go though a silly ritual of pretending that itโs almost ready a handful of times.

We celebrated our 27th anniversary here and Alex was our server. He's amazing! We love to go to a restaurant and let the server pick our meals and Alex was excited and did not disappoint. He started us with the burrata and charred broccolini, moved us onto a pappardelle with braised lamb, then onto a porcini encrusted halibut and Muscovy duck that had the most incredible flavors! The sommelier helped with an amazing wine. The service at this place is unbelievable. I have never seen a sommelier grab a plate on the way back to the kitchen, but I saw it last night. Constant checking in and just the right touch. Thank you Scarpetta for another world class experience!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent as always!
We love Scarpetta! We used to dine at the Meatpacking location years ago, but hadn't been to the Madison location since it opened, and we are glad we did. We love the space, it is spacious yet intimate with a large bar area (we love to eat at bars instead of tables). The people, as always, are super friendly and nice and the food, as always, is great. We enjoyed the spaghetti - I know it sounds almost too basic but it is done to perfection! We also really liked the polenta with mushrooms and (I guess we were in a funghi mood) the mushrooms with tomato glaze & parmigiano. Especially now that we stay close by when we visit nyc we will come back everytime. Go!

I love eating in Italy and often do. This was as good. Especially good were the two pastas we had: the agnolotti and the mezzalune were both spectacular. To my amazement, the wine list included the 2015 Barolo from Guido Porro, a producer who flies well below the radar of status seekers. It was the perfect choice for the pastas (esp. the agnolotti). Every aspect of the lunch was delightful, including the welcome by the hostess and the friendly, well-informed waitress. I felt lucky to have gotten a reservation on Sunday for Monday.

My significant other and I went to Scarpetta on 2/12/2023 for their Valentine's Day-themed brunch. The experience was wonderful! As soon as we entered and registered with the front desk, our coats were taken and empty decorative boxes were given to each of us. As we entered the lounge area there was a chocolate display that I used to fill up the boxes. The chocolate was high quality. Crisp exterior with a warm, smooth center that melted in your mouth. In the lounge area, there was also a bar that offered bottomless mimosas, wine, and beer. I only tried the mimosas. There were four options and you could not go wrong with any of them. My partner and I chatted over drinks by the bar and others did the same until the dining room was ready. Once the dining room was ready, each couple is assigned a specific table. The room was beautifully decorated with light and bright colors. There was even a live band playing romantic salsa while everyone ate. Servers served us bread with condiments to start. Thereafter we were given a salad and then French toast as an appetizers. For the entree, we were given spaghetti with more bread, and for dessert, we were given a version of a chocolate mouse. Though the ambiance was more than I expected, the food options were not. I wish there were more options in terms of being able to pick your own appetizer, plate, and dessert. I also remained hungry after eating. The portions were very small, especially given that my partner and I had to share each plate. Despite the food choices and small servings, the servers and even the manager were very friendly, attentive, and professional. All in all 4/5! The Valentine's Day Brunch has great potential.

My experience at Scarpetta was one of the best! The staff is so attentive, the wine list is to die for and the dishes were perfect. I tried their spaghetti statement dish and I can tell you it is worth it that I still wonder what is the secret ingredient.
Be the first to ReplyStuffy and Rude
I have to agree with the earlier review regarding the rudeness of the hostess. We came in after a long day of walking NYC on a blustery cold day wearing big coats and looking a bit wind blown. Inquired about brunch and was given a once over look like we were not welcome. We actually wanted a reservation for the next day but given a non welcoming attitude we made a reservation elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful meal!
My partner and i visited Scarpetta in December, we were unable to get a reservation ahead of time so we decided to arrive promptly at 5pm (when they open) and we got a seat at the bar for dinner. We loooove eating at the bar when we go to restaurants, it's a great way to meet and interact the staff, as well as a great opportunity for people watching - there's always a good 'buzz' at a restaurant bar. Anyway, the three men behind the bar were fantastic, just lovely and so personable. Although this is a fine dining restaurant, we felt like comfortable regulars, and we were right at home. The food was nothing short of amazing - start to finish. We had a fabulous meal, we loved the atmosphere, and loved the service. We'll definitely be back!

Really really really nice experience, the staff is wonderful, knowledgeable and make it all happen! Spaghetti al pomodoro e basilico donโt get any better and are clearly the oscar winner! The raw fish is outstanding especially the red shrimp carpaccio, one of my all time favorites, The wagyu strip was also exceptional. All in all fantastic atmosphere, great honest food, and exceptional service! Alessio the GM is on it! Well done.

One of our favorite restaurants when visiting New York. The space is beautiful, the staff is excellent and the food is always delicious.
Be the first to ReplyDo not buy Scarpetta TOCK events
Despite spending $150 per ticket on a TOCK Vinvivo World of Wine Event and contacting the event coordinator earlier in the week to request a change to a later event date, Scarpetta would not allow for any changes and we lost our payment. Avoid these events and the restaurant. They are not customer service oriented.
Be the first to ReplyPlenty of better options at better prices
Modestly disappointed. Expensive wine list with little age. Some dishes were fantastic, others mediocre.
Be the first to ReplyGorgeous restaurant, great food!
The restaurant is beautiful and the service is very good. We felt that the portion sizes, particularly of the appetizers, were really way too small. That said everything we ate was delicious with great flavors.

This place is amazing! The saving Grace for The James Hotel at the Nomad! The pasta was amazing, I had the lobster tagliolini and my 6 yr old had the PAPPARDELLE and my husband had the veal! Everything exceeded our expectations! Our server was so good!!! She was constantly there to refill our wine! We totally splurged with 2 bottles of wine that was so so good! We ordered the Sangiovese! Amazing restaurant!

I love this place! I have a lot of allergies and every time that I go they are very attentive and take care of me. They always treat us great, the food is fantastic and itโs a great place to bring friends, family, or go on a date.

Very buzzy and packed It is definitely a place to be seen but the food was very mediocre to say the least A lot of management floating about and a very NY buzz but thatโs about all Large price tag for at best mediocrity They clearly have the winning formula as it was full, canโt understand why though. Our server was lovely

Outstanding italian. There must be a God for we were in Heaven. Could not find fault in any of the courses. Let me summarise with a question...How can anyone make just carrots taste that good that you want seconds?
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing dinner at Scarpetta
This is the third time in a period of three months that we visit Scarpetta. We had a better experience the last two times but tonight it felt like the wsiter had no interest in taking our order. We finally ordered three courses. In my case, the charred octopus was very good but the second and third courses were a complete disaster! The Tagliolini Nero was a spicy pasta with and ugly presentation and no flavor at all. The mini pieces of lobster were dry and seemed that they were leftovers. Then came the Halibut as dry as a piece of paper with a lot of olive oil on top. When the waiter saw my plate with the almost untouched pasta he asked if I liked it. I said no and he replied โI told you it was a little soicyโ. A โlittleโ was a complete understatement. After a $350.00 check for a meal I couldnโt eat or enjoy I have No interest in comming back!
