Amazing place in February, not many ppl.
There are way more staff than guests. Very unique experience compared to the beach resort.

From the time we checked in we knew this place would be special. The grounds are breathtaking. The classes, activities, and spa treatments were 2nd to none. We were here 5 nights and could have stayed longer. If you are looking for a peaceful get away and want to learn some new life skills, this is your place. We will be back!
Be the first to ReplyI am absolutely blown away.
I have never stayed in a 5-Star hotel, let alone a Four Seasons hotel. I am honestly... speechless. This experience was incredible. I'm not even exaggerating... I've enjoyed my time at Sensei Lana'i on so, so, so many levels. From the attention to detail to the absolutely STUNNING design, I'm just in awe. Seriously... this place is a designer's dream... or at-least my dream lol. Everything is so beautiful... from the lobby to the gift shop (btw their gift shop sells Lululemon, what?! lol) to the waitstaff at the Nobu restaurants... I'm just shook. Maybe I'm just not used to luxury? Honestly I haven't stayed in any luxury hotels outside of Las Vegas... so maybe I have stayed in some luxury hotels! Lol. But THIS... Sensei... this is on ANOTHER LEVEL. I feel like I was transported to a dream oasis where I can breathe fresh air and ignore any problems in the world... and worry about the bill later... but omg. If you have the funds and if you save up... PLEASEE do this experience. You won't regret it... unless you're not into serene nature or idk luxury hotels aren't your thing. But this is DEFINITELY my thing lol... it's just stunning. Like I can't even put into words how fancy I feel. I feel like I don't belong on some levels but that's on a deeper note and this isn't a self reflection journal lol. The water... at the restaurant (Nobu) on the premises.. they asked me which three types of water I wanted. Lana'i water, sparkling, or spring? I've never been asked this before. The staff is beyond friendly... they're so personable and professional. And the way they cater to your vacation.. just like immaculate. I felt like I was a celebrity lol. ALSO, not to mention... the Lana'i air and private plane situation... whatttt....... included in the price of the hotel room. Their brand and photography designers are like chef's kiss, omg. So I visited Sensei with my friend, but I feel like this resort would be perfect for someone on a honeymoon. They have Onsen baths and it's so secluded and somewhat romantic. Super fun for my friend and I to explore but since the island and resort is so secluded it really feels dreamy and a couples getaway in many aspects. Oh also the gym is super nice. It feels like one of those fancy only-for-the-wealthy getaways you see in the movies. Like a fancy wellness retreat with people who are attune to your every need. The only funny mistakes that happened were my friend couldn't access the Wi-Fi on her Android phone throughout the resort, and at the Nobu restaurant they didn't have three or so drink selections I had wanted. But this is so small compared the whole experience so no complaints here. ALSO omg.. they gave us Yeti water bottles as a complementary keepsake... I love it here. I never want to leave... AND they have cool animals!! We did horse back riding, they have random turkeys wandering, and a cat named Garfield around the resort. Anyways this is a novel, hopefully my photos will add some flavor to my words and color the experience. I can't suggest Sensei Lana'i enough. Thank you so much for this experience!!
Be the first to ReplyI was so excited for my visit to Sensei.
Booked though Amex travel at premium rate for a two night stay. So disappointed with the service levels at this property - not a typical Four Seasons experience. Staff seem to struggle with Forbes standards here - definitely not what I hoped for. The person who checked me in never acknowledged me by name and there were a surprising series of missteps after arrival.
Be the first to ReplySensei Lanai is pure magic.
I visited Lanai in August 2022, my first time back since multiple stays at the Lodge at Koele as a child. The pine air, fantastic grounds, comfortable rooms and warm service immediately put me in a relaxed state. The landscaping is truly stunning and guests are immersed in what feels like a lush art exhibit. I enjoyed taking morning walks throughout the property and breathing in the tropical scents.Sensei Lanai is adults only and that added to the calm environment. I was happy to discover that the pool and onsen garden amenities are open 24 hours a day so evening dips under the stars are on the table. Take your phone or a flashlight to avoid the slugs on the walkways that come out at night. Bracelets act as room keys and Yeti bottles are provided to use and keep. The mini golf course is a fun and free activity. I'm so happy this was kept from the Lodge at Koele days. Having the option to pop in to the sister resort, Four Seasons Lanai, is an added benefit. Shuttles are provided on the half hour departing Sensei and on the hour departing Four Seasons.Separate reviews posted for Sensei by Nobu and Lanai Air.
Be the first to ReplyEasiest five star I've given.
Incredible customized level of detail and attention to ensure your stay is tailored to your desires.Resort is beautiful and clean.Pool was beautiful private and perfect temperature.Dining has been incredible - Sensei by Nobu!Could go on and on, but just fantastic in every way possible! We were greeted by Tamara who was friendly, knowledgeable and gave us a warm welcome reception.Trevor guided our stay by actively listening to what we hoped to gain and experience during our stay.Danielle took time to understand our current level of nutrition and provided us with great tips, hints and a guideline to help meet our goals.Activities we opted to enjoy:Forrest bathing - Would suggest taking this one of the first days of your trip, it includes a trip through the garden and builds a connect with the environment. Included no actual bathing in the Forrest Snorkeling - includes a 40 minute ride to snorkeling location on a beautiful 65' yacht. If you get motion sickness may want to bring some dramamine. The crew was friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and professional.Massage + hale - definitely my favorite and most enjoyable activities as the hale time after the massage was incredible!Free activities we enjoyed included yoga+morning meditation and wake up and move. Both great way to start your day and for all ages and experience levels.Would not suggest this resort with younger kids as it's more a tranquil setting overall, but provides a good opportunity for adults to focus on various aspects of mental, emotional, and physical health (mind, nutrition, sleep)
Be the first to ReplyThis location offers a sight that is quite stunning.
This area has been well managed, both in terms of its vegetation and its arrangement. There are pieces of art worth millions of dollars scattered all around the area, which creates visual stimulation no matter where you look. Even if carefully selected artwork isn't your thing, the plant life here is reason enough to make the journey.
Be the first to ReplyI thought this was a very pricey hotel when I was booking.
I've gone on trips that cost less than one night at Sensei, haha. But there was a lot that came with my reservation that made it worth it to me. #1 is the roundtrip flights on Lana'i Air. Easily my best airline experience of my life. Airport transport on Lana'i is another bonus of staying at Sensei. The hourly shuttles that go between the two Four Seasons Hotels are also great. I used them multiple times a day to go between the city and the two hotels. Lastly the property is amazing. The gardens are some of the most beautiful gardens I've ever seen. I loved that the gym, pool and Onsen Garden are open 24/7. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. I had an amazing time and hope to go back again this year.
Be the first to ReplySo many things to say - where does one begin.
I feel so fortunate to have been able to spend a few days to unwind where. A sense of calm immediately overtakes you from the moment you are greeted with a lei of Kukui nut shells. A walk around the grounds, and one is silenced into awe by the beautifully and meticulously landscaped garden where nude Boteros and other modern nude sculptures laze about to soak in the rays of the warming Hawaiian Sun. A stroll in the evening, the garden takes on a slightly eerie tone and at times, makes one feel like she is on the set of a dystopian futuristic movie where one expects to stumble upon a cult of hippies holding hands in a circle (think Jurassic Park meets 9 Perfect Strangers). The pool. Amazing. The gym is so gorgeous, I made sure to go just because I wanted to enjoy the space. I am going to miss the 'smart' heated bidet toilets in my clean and well-kept room now that I am back in reality. Food at Nobu is fine - only drawback is that food options are pretty limited if you stay here. After 2 days and nights ordering from the same menu, I got bored ordering off the same menu.
Be the first to ReplyThis is an absolutely breathtaking site.
The greenery and layout of this space is curated expertly - there are millions of dollars worth of art dotted around the space creating visual excitement everywhere you look. If curated art isn't your thing, the plant life alone (trees that look like they're out of Jurassic park, flowers in bloom everywhere giving off the most gorgeous scent) is worth the trip. The rooms are spacious (we had a gorgeous ground floor room with a large seating area, amazing bed) and light, airy and clean. The only complaint is that there was not a turndown service unless it was specifically requested even though someone always came into our rooms to drop off our next day's itinerary. Also, the weather on site can be rainy/overcast and our tv did not work at all during our entire stay (thankfully, we had lots of books and there is a decently appointed library guests can use). The TV never working was disappointing especially if we just wanted to watch some news in bed at night (and I guess when you're paying what we paid, we expect perfection). There is one main pool with amazing water features - plenty of shaded areas and attentive pool staff. They also have great sunscreen available and fluffy towels. The grounds also have onsen thermal pools - these are stunning and secluded. My one wish for these is that they had differing temperatures. They are all kept very hot and having lower temp options would be wonderful. There are 10 hale spas on site - these are where spa services are hosted - each is slightly different but all have huge Japanese style tubs, infrared saunas, steam showers, outdoor Onsen and a huge outdoor rain shower. The massage services staff are all very knowledgeable and I had two of the best massages of my life on site.Days can be as busy or as relaxed as guests like - the staff who teach the training and yoga classes are top tier. Eduardo and Christine are two of the best humans I've ever encountered and their classes were amazing. My husband and I did the 5 day sensei package that included a lot of 1-1 specialized sessions and a lot of daily sessions (yoga, stretching, etc)- the primary focus was on movement, rest and nourishment. I'd say movement and rest were very thoroughly considered - the nourish aspect lacked significantly but this was NOT due to the nutritionist they have on staff. Danielle the nutritionist was again, incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The 5 day experience came with some pre-arrival set up (including wearing a whoop fitness tracker and a few phone calls). We were disappointed by the pre-arrival support (I suppose we didn't really understand what was happening so unfortunately we ended up with schedules that were not aligned and spent quite a few days hardly seeing each other - we were able to make changes so we had more activities together but it'd be nice to have the staff let couples traveling together to be mindful of scheduling if they actually like hanging out together while on vacation). My biggest complaint about the trip was the lack of food option(s) onsite. They truly only have one restaurant one site (sensei by nobu) and the menu is incredibly limited. The chef is accommodating but when you're staying for 5 days it's just not a great experience to only have one restaurant or room service/bar as your only options. And the prices are absurd but in line with other 4 season resorts. We did a sunset boat cruise and that was excellent - would 100% recommend - the water is much rougher than most boat cruises but that's the Pacific Ocean for you. The cruise staff was amazing and for $170/pp you get a great meal and drinks all included. The hotel does provide shuttle between the sensei site and their beach site - the overall vibe is MUCH better at sensei (no kids, pool always has seating) but the food options at the other site is more expansive (but again ridiculously expensive). Arrival and departure to and from the island was top notch through lanai air! My husband was disappointed though that the website claimed the use of teslas would be used and at least during our time we only saw the teslas we never got transported anywhere around in them. You can definitely walk into Lanai City from sensei (it's about 2 miles each way). There is a small market there where you can get great and reasonably priced poke and with a fridge in your room you could get some other small items if you don't want to pay $100 for eggs/coffee everyday (this was the average price for coffee and two breakfasts). Overall it is a magical location - the 5 day experience was great but the nourish aspect needs a lot of tweaking to make it in line with places like miraval. The fitness professionals and spa professionals are world class. Hopefully, they expand their eating options and tweak the 5 day experience (the food aspect) to be more in line with miraval.
Be the first to ReplyI can't believe I ordered and picked up expensive sushi but
I can't believe I ordered and picked up expensive sushi but got zero Wasabi. Who eats sushi without Wasabi and who packs it to go but doesn't add Wasabi? Ridiculous and ruined an expensive dinner.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome experience.
Nuff said.Reservations for activities, spa treatments, etc. can be a bit rough though, so they gotta figure that one out to make it smoother for guests. Otherwise, it was a trip to remember.
Be the first to ReplyThe Four Seasons Sensei Lanai was a seriously magical
The Four Seasons Sensei Lanai was a seriously magical experience. Unlike any Hawaiian resort we had been to before, it felt secluded, away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, and at many times it really felt like we had the place practically to ourselves, which was so cool. Here's our take on the areas in which they excel and the areas they need to improve upon. The Positives:The property is absolutely breathtaking. It is immaculately landscaped, crafted in such a way that you can peacefully meander around without every running into more than a few people at a time. The rooms are well-appointed (highlight is the lux toilets that practically do everything for you) and very comfortable bedding. The common areas feature a wide array of gorgeous artwork and neutral finishes that give a very relaxed, high-end feeling. The restaurant (Nobu) is great for both breakfast and dinner, and the bar with small bites is also a must visit. They offer a diverse set of fitness and wellness classes and the instructors are truly top notch. We took a yoga class, meditation class, and guided hike and every single instructor was phenomenal. We also did the extracurricular e-bike tour (a must!) and our guide was a very kind Lanai native that was so fun to tootle around the island with. The private flights to and from Honolulu are a major plus, as are the courtesy shuttles to and from the sister Four Seasons on the coast where you can enjoy free access to their amazing beach. That beach is incredible. We swam for hours, saw tons of sea life while snorkeling in the reefs nearby, and even heard whale calls (!) one day when we were underwater. We felt like kids again! However, when we heard the actual kids at that resort, we were happy to return to Sensei which is wonderfully kid free and go back to the clean, natural landscaped pool and surrounding onsens (Japanese word for hot tubs.)The Areas for Improvement:We purchased a Discovery One package that came with a free daily class and then was also supposed to include special 1-on-1 sessions. We were led to believe an itinerary would be curated for us by their experiences team; this did not happen. No one ever reached out to us after booking and we had to call them three times before someone finally got back to us about booking our daily classes, massages and restaurant reservation. When we arrived, they were out of the 1-on-1 sessions we wanted and we, again, had to talk to three different people over our stay to try and sort it out before the manager capitulated and acknowledged they dropped the ball and gave us our massages gratis. This was very kind, however the Thai massage I got was the worst I've ever had and I am so grateful I didn't pay for it because it also would have been the most expensive. I love Thai massages because they both feel good and accomplish a lot in terms of body work. This one did neither... so disappointing! Her hands were also so clammy and sticky (yuck!) The best part of the massage was when she left and I got 30 minutes in the Hale (this super, super cool private structure with various baths, showers, and saunas.) The Hales are a must visit, unlike anything you've had before. They also cancelled our reservation for dinner the first night we were there and we still don't know how or why that happened. Lastly, they try to force these wristband room keys on you that are ill-fitting and don't work well at all (ours eventually stopped working completely and we had to ask for regular key cards.)Overall, the stay was fabulous and we can't wait to go back, hopefully with the kinks worked out. Knocking it a star for the above mentioned grievances, but would recommend the Sensei Lanai to anyone looking for a restorative Hawaiian getaway.
Be the first to ReplyAn incredible retreat.
Had originally booked this for 2020, but rescheduled and finally was able to visit in 2022. Every detail, is above and beyond. From the landscaping, to the design of the room, from the charter flight through Lanai Air, to the Tesla car service, they have thought of everything. Things I loved:Onsens-private and located throughout gardenNobu restaurant-in the morning having breakfast next to the koi pond-menu offerings are on the lighter side, but tastyPrivate Spa Hale-AmazingLocation-walking distance to town and Koloiki hikeEvery room has a balcony to relax and listen to the birdsService is impeccableBeautiful art pieces intermingled within the landscaping (and throughout the property, too)In addition, staff will arrange all activities for you; snorkeling on a catamaran, dinner reservations, aerial tower adventures (so fun!), and spa. I wish I had more time because there are so many more activities to enjoy. (Golf, horseback riding, biking, etc.) Being a wellness retreat it was a great place to reset your health goals. From the menu options, gym, yoga classes, pool, it was perfect to start the new year. We look forward to going back.

An amazing and beautiful getaway! We flew into Honolulu and took the Lanai Air flight to Lanai. We were greeted by Tiana who drove us from the airport to the Sensei resort in a Tesla Model X. We were blown away by the property. It is gorgeous. The onsen (hot spring baths) were amazing and the Nobu on property served great healthy food for both breakfast and dinner. The Wagyu for dinner is a must try. A special thanks to Megan and Ada. They were so sweet and we loved the service.Regarding activities, we did a private horseback ride with Derek, snorkeling adventure and Jeep tour with Ke'alii! Thank you so much Derek and Ke'alii! We made memories that will last a lifetime. The rooms were beautiful and the gym was also stunning. 5 stars is an understatement. We visited the other four seasons and it feels like a standard resort. If you are debating between the two - go with Sensei. Such an exclusive resort.Thank you so much!!!
