Contrary to what some people said, this place has not closed, but relocated to Carlton Hotel due to renovation at Raffles.Food is amazing, the real thing as Japanese authentic experience. And with many excellent Japanese restaurants here, it's really challenging to prime. I find that Shinji does it. Much attention to details, that's what Japanese people do. I'd give 6 stars... I simply recommend this place

On par with the best in Japan. The sushi rice though has been modified to Singaporean taste in that they use less vinegar. I'm ok with this but prefer the Tokyo style. This is edomae sushi style so those that prefer a more contemporary/fusion style maybe disappointed but this is edomae sushi at its best. The fish and rice is served at room temperature, as it should be. We had the Omakase dinner set and also the sushi ย 15 pc omakase set. Highly recommended. Note that the restaurant is now at the Carlton Hotel and not Raffles hotel. Ambiance and service was excellent. Expensive but on par with the top Ginza sushi-ya prices.

We had the chef's Omakase and sake pairings to go along with it. Every item was done with great quality of fish and preparations. We got to try the difference between long spiked uni and short spiked (I'm preferable to the short spiked). At the end of the journey, we were asked about what else we wanted to try or try again. We had several favorites again (and again). The highlight was when we were playful with the chef because one of our guests loved Uni and so he made a bit of an Uni tower for him. with each piece of Uni we added on gasps and amazement followed. And then more was added. and more.. this was quite a spectacle that we all enjoyed. Our time at Shinji gave us a bit more information on how spread out some of the Michelin Stars can be. Inconsistency is what we are seeing when rating 1's and 2's. This was a solid 1, and could make a 2 some day. Very pleased with the meal and the service and would return the next time I am in the modern Utopian society of Singapore.

ย But, the sushi and experience are excellent. ย Every bit as good as anything you'll find in Japan. ย The Chefs are all Japanese and sushi is flown in regularly from Tokyo's fish market. ย Well done.

Japanese food, terrible or not, costs a fortune in Singapore. Full stop. Ok, now that that is out of the way, I can say Shinji is the best sushi and fish I have had in SG. Nearly everything exuded refined elegance that hit the palette in well engineered ways. Everything except a mishmash of salty fishy meatball soup hat accompanied the final course. Small, but quaint, Shinji has a humble, minimalist facade and authentic omotenashi TLC. If you have the budget and can't fly to Japan soon enough for your sushi fix, give Shinji a shout out. Four stars because the chef was drinking lots of champagne while making the food. Actions unbecoming and undeserving of a Michelin star.
Be the first to ReplyI hate to be the bad person but.
.The tall slim young chef who served my omakase was obviously at the tail or the beginning of a cold. He turned often to his right sleeve to cover his cough. I remained at my seat but wanted to run out of the door any second. Hygiene is the very basic requirement for a restaurant, cannot believe a sick chef was allowed to work at the sushi bar facing the customers.Secondly, there was sand in my soup. My guess was the seaweed was not washed thoroughly. The rest dishes and sushi were delicious. But based on the above, to go or not to go, that is the question- up to you ;)

Had his Tsuki (15 pcs) and they were just amazing... only downside is that u can only eat one at a time... i think i could have eaten like 10 of those uni... Cheers!!
Be the first to ReplyDistinguished as the finest Japanese restaurant in all of
Distinguished as the finest Japanese restaurant in all of Singapore (it is the highest ranked on just about every dining list there is), Shinji is one of those places that is reserved for special occasions, the food here being absolutely sublime, and the bill costing a pretty penny. At $300 a pop for the cheapest omakase dinner option, Shinji is also renown to be the most expensive Japanese restaurant in Singapore. The multi-course meal is well worth it though, sparkling fresh, immaculately finessed and exquisitely plated. The restaurant, a pinewood-ed space of tranquility, is split up into several dining rooms, each one kept small so a single chef can helm it, and each room it can be switched up into a private space. Service was intuitive, attentive, and unobtrusive. The waitresses were stealthy like ninjas, I never really saw them around, but my teacup was always filled to the brim, and barely a second after we whipped out our credit card, they appeared with the bill! We actually looked up to see if there were cameras in the room watching our every move.Best save this for a special occasion.

I've only tried better sushi in San Diego's Nobu but hands down to this location. Recently moved to Singapore and I am always on a lookup for a new places and new go to restaurants and this will be one on my list for some time when here. Like many people say its pricey but this is how it is with food and especially with sushi so when it comes to get a good stuff is good to pay for it good buck.Food was fresh and very tasty, sake was as asake is and the service was amazing which adds on the top of the whole experience. Perhaps some people have different experience due to their personality but this is me and my review.:D
