Shuko New York Reviews from The Last Year
Bomb diggity! This was my second time here.
While I ate with a friend the first time, the second occasion was eating solo. While the food is not inexpensive, it lives up to the hype. Sushi is fresh and the service is attentive and educational. Both the sommelier and the sushi chef did a great job in walking me though the menu and guiding me meal.

If there is one hill I am willing to die on, it's that omakase is an industry plant. Unless it's an ultra special occasion, why on God's green earth would you spend $270 per person for sushi? I know $270 is upscale omakase, but still why would you pay $130 a head? The sum of the parts just don't add up, and there is no way you're going to like everything the chef gives you... I mean if you're paid like that no shade. I'm not pocket watching don't worry. We decided to hit Shuko ($270 a head) for a work celebration. Not my choice, obviously. Upon arriving, the only thing that denotes it is the restaurant is a cute little yellow flower right by the door. As the door swings open, you enter a beautiful, authentically Japanese space with an elongated bar with some classic hip hop hits playing faintly through the speakers. We were walked to our seats at the counter and this is one of those places where they push in your chairs for you like you are a little kid. But at $270 a head I was letting them do all that lol. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! The $270 show began, as the chef whipped out his Kiritsuke Blue Steel knife and began cutting this fish like he was a world class samurai in the Sengoku Period. He is honestly an artist. Art takes many forms, but this has to be right up there with the best of them. Caviar is so overrated to me, but this caviar on top of toro tartare with a small piece of milk bread made me eat my words. It actually had me audibly saying "OH MY GOD." As the rest of the sushi came piece by piece, it was undeniably phenomenal with the standouts being that piece of fatty tuna along with the wagyu. But I mean at $270 a head it better be phenomenal. $270 a head before drinks... for $270 I could probably buy some..... nvm. Before I wrap this up, I need to shoutout my boy Salvador as he was keeping my plate of ginger FULL. At places like this I always try to get as much ginger as possible, as I need my get-back. $270 on me? Well Imma eat my body weight in ginger. My guy Salvador would not let my ginger plate be empty. Y'all need to give Salvador a raise!! In closing, I hear you: "But Johnny, if you loved it so much how is it an industry plant?" Great question, my dear reader. Easy answer: Was this experience worth $240 more than a platter of sushi from 295 Mercer or a Trust Me from Sugarfish? Absolutely not. Not even close... but I guess if you really want to flex up on somebody or you have an unlimited bankroll, then why not come here? IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews
Splurged here for an anniversary dinner.
At $270/pp without drinks, tip, and tax, it is pretty pricy but so worth it. Each pair gets their own omakase chef. The cuts of fish are amazing. Each one has special sauce and is absolutely spectacular. This is the best omakase in the city, hands down. Drinks are great too. Music is hip hop and fun to listen to.
I was expecting the seating I requested to be accommodated.
It wasn't. When I asked for the manager, the girl who approached me was incredibly rude, and had a serious attitude. Tall girl, skinny, teeth like horse. Clearly no people skills. It was quite obvious she's either new, or had never done this type of work before. Food was overpriced, and nothing special. Music was loud and inconsistent. Poor taste, whoever chose it. Won't be back. Especially after how that manager conducted herself.

This is my favorite omakase sushi spot in NYC! Their toro tartare with caviar on milkbread is mouthwatering... seriously, I dream about this dish at night! The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Fish is super fresh and all their ingredients are top-of-the-line in quality. Their plum sake is also delicious!
Delicious sushi & wonderful Omakase
We had the pleasure of dining here from Luka say with our two adult sons, and their girlfriends. We had a private room, and the service was outstanding else was the food. The sake sommelier was very helpful with recommendations. We’ve done Omakase and a number of other cities including Tokyo and this was right up there. Highly recommend and reservations are necessary.
