Really bad !!
Came with a larger group, we ordered essentially every single dish on the very limited menu. Poor choices for vegetarians/ vegans. This is quite a small restaurant nevertheless the food takes very long to be served. When it arrived it was very underwhelming with respect to both taste and appearance. Even the tea (which I was told is a compulsory charge) is substandard. You can get the same grub all over town so not sure what justified the Michelin recognition here. Where this restaurant does stand out is the service - even measured by the low standards of this city the crew of this establishment is downright hostile. The lady owner is particularly nasty, so stay away from her business.

Always a big fan of the Song Fish head here, including the kai lan & tofu prawns. My husband loves their pork rib with bitter gourd.
Tend to overeat as the dishes are always so good!
So far, they have not disappointed us & hope this place will be around for as long as Sik Wai Sin too.
Satisfying "zi char" lunch
Although located besides the busy Geylang Road, the small restaurant is air-conditioned, comfortable and clean. The menu comprised many local "zi char" favourites.
Our group of 4 ordered small portions for our shared dishes. However, the service female staff kept urging us to order medium portions by saying that the small portions would not be sufficient for us. We followed her suggestion for one dish but kept to our order of small portions for others. Further, she urged us to order their specialty fish dish. We declined as we did not want a heavy lunch.
When the food was served, we realised that we should have kept to our preferred small portions.
Lunch experience was somewhat marred by the insistent urgings of service staff to increase the portion sizes and upsell their specialty dishes.
The food taste was good though and well deserving of our overall "very good" rating.
A passer-by foodie.
Was reading some of the comments from the review corners while I was waiting for my food.
This is a very small eating house with only 12 tables. With what I could observed when I was there tonight, many diners tried to take advantage of this small little dinning place to their own likings.
Hence, I found those negative feedbacks very questionable. Come on Singaporean’s, have some class and behave yourself when you are a guest at a restaurant.
Lastly, food was excellent especially the ginger chicken.
the business owner is insulting with minimum spending
I've always had enjoyed their food but from the original branch just several lorongs down. it's our first time at this branch and we are being insulted by the amount of money spent. There were 5 of us (mainly old folks) but we were told that there is a minimum spending of 250 dollars and we were shocked. To our horror, we were told that we have not met the minimum for 5 max and told to leave by the business owner - lady with shoulder length hair and long fringe. This is absolutely disappointing as I dont understand why is there a minimum spending.
Be the first to ReplySo incredible for a Michelin standard rstn to tell a customer dun ever patronise them again
On 6/10/19 we started queueing at 6:50 pm. Desmond's wife was in charged of the queue n sitting arrangement. We ordered 2 dishes. She was unhappy. Half an hour later she told us to share table with another family of 2 ladies dressedin white n green tops n a guy. (See my pic) I asked Desmond's wife since we queued first can we choose to sit on the side next to the counter? Her answer was no bcos the other family ordered more dishes than my family. I requested bcos my son was quite big size n pretty uncomfortable to squeeze him if we were to sit on the other side of the table which was back to back to another table. Upon seated I asked Desmond's wife can we ordered any dish? She said "Now then u want to order another dish? Just ignored me n walked away. We sat n kept drinking tea till 8:20. Here came 2 big plates of tofu prawns. One for my family n the other for the family of 3 sitting opposite us. Then I noticed I ordered a medium tofu prawns n only had 4 big prawns. The other family had 5 big prawns. So I asked Desmond's wife why we're the portions not consistent? She said they ordered medium portion so hv 5 prawns. I told her I also ordered medium portion. Instead of apologising DESMOND'S WIFE REPLIED SHALL I COOK 1 PRAWN FOR YOU? N walked away. I was taken by surprise with such non apologetic remark. All dishes were cooked by Desmond n how could a chef of Michilen standard made such mistake? After finishing my meal I approached amother staff. 1) Why can'take I order another dish when I still had to wait for another hour or so b4 my food were served? 2) A Michilen standard chef shd know cooking a plate of tofu prawns with 5 big prawns n cooking another with 4 big prawns will the taste be the same? 3) How could Desmond's wife offer to cook 1 prawn for me? In fact the lady in green confirmed to Desmond's wife that she ordered a small portion of tofu prawn. Then Desmond's wife rudely refunded me $5 for that pc of missing prawn!
She blatantly told me never never to come back again as I am not welcome. I hv never heard of any Michilen standard rstn treating customer in this way. Will u if ever treated in this manner?
REGULARS
The Lover’s favourite place fer sweet and sour pork! We are regulars here and brought my family back here again fer Father’s Day lunch.
We ordered:
Steamed Fish
2x Sweet and Sour Pork
2x Toufu Prawn
Kailan Beef
Watercress Soup
Steamed Pork with salted Fish
Personally, I feel the Sweet and Sour Pork is a little hard due to batter but is still really good. This is always a point of contention between The Lover and I 😂
My personal fave is the Toufu Prawns and Steamed Pork. It is a very simple combination but very tasty. It brings back a welcome sense of nostalgia.
Service is definitely slow here and some of the staff can be frustrating. The chef Desmond cooks all the dishes himself to ensure a pretty consistent standard. I was literally forced to make an order of steamed fish “NOW” as I was “threatened” that it would take forever if I was to order later 😂 and if it isn’t the first dish I ordered. Said staff also kept saying that I must put in all orders and that if I were to under order and change my mind later, it will take very long.
Most of the other staff are nice though.
We are regulars and will definitely come back again.
Comfort Zi char (sweet & sour pork)
Always hits the spot, always consistent, always crispy, always yummy. With only 11 dishes to choose and 2 types of soups, u can’t really go wrong with the food they serve. My TOP pick: crispy sweet and sour pork. Their other dishes are not far off either and best paired with rice.
Enjoy the good eats.
Delicious home-cooked style Cantonese cuisine
The food is absolutely fresh and delicious. We tried their infamous steak fish head, tofu prawns, steam pork with salted fish, sweet and sour pork and herbal black chicken soup. Food quality was tip top! Definitely will not our last time here. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplySlow service
Horribly slow service. We were the first in line by 5.45pm (their opening time) and at 6.25pm, we were still waiting for our food. The table next to us was behind us in the queue and they finished their entire meal even before we got a single dish served.
This place is good only if you have the patience of a saint. Otherwise, don’t bother. There food isn’t worth waiting so long for. If I could give it ZERO stars, I would.
Down to earth taste
Excellent taste and well presented home cooked dishes at affordable price. It could be quite a norm in the past such dishes were prepared by grandma at home. The skill is vastly lost but still avail in this central location.
