Mothers Day Disaster
Booked a late lunch for 2:30. By 3:30 we still hadnāt seen any food and were being ignored by the many staff on duty. They didnāt even to offer to top up water. I eventually got someoneās attention and they said it would be 2-3 minutes. 15 minutes later I got up and looked for the manager. 10 minutes after that my sonās food arrived. A further 5 minutes after that my wifeās and my meal. Other guests arriving after us had eaten three courses and long departed. The roast cauliflower was apparently very nice, but the two roast beef lunches were very poor. Drowned in a huge amount of very salty gravy, it was difficult to discern what anything tasted of. The roast potatoes were anaemic and lacked any crunch. For dessert the lemon tart was fine, but the cheese board consisted of just 2 slabs of the same blue cheese and a goats cheese. No info on what they were. We were offered a glass of Prosecco each to compensate. To top the day off I have diarrhoea. Avoid.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing mother's day brunch
I don't personally like to write bad reviews however I didnt feel this restaurant warranted a great one. My daughter booked brunch for 11.30 and we arrived waiting outside, what we thought was the entrance. The door remained closed and although plenty of staff saw us standing there(through the clear glass) no one actually came to assist! First fail. At the table we constantly had to raise our voices to say "excuse me!" to get someone's attention to order. The food was overpriced for what it was. The ham and chicken terrine was good but the chicken for mains had no seasoning and was flavourless. It was disappointing to say the least. During our visit there seemed some people that were important enough for the staff to pay attention to and clearly we didn't look or seem important enough. As a paying customer I like to be treated the same as everyone else and I didnt not feel comfortable in the restaurant. At the end, my daughter asked for the service charge to be removed. Quite rightly in my opinion! Having to raise my voice constantly to order is not good service. Staff clearly paying more attention to other guests is also not great service. At this point some staff clearly disapproved standing in a huddle looking over! How very rude! I would definately not eat here again or recommend to anyone. There are plenty of nicer places in the area that would probably be more welcoming, less overpriced with tastier food and with equally nice views. Sadly not a place that I would rate.

The food was delicious and the views were gorgeous. Our waiter, Anton, was so helpful with not only menu recommendations, but with places to go after dinner!
Be the first to ReplyDisorganised chaos
With a large group of friends we were attending a concert in the Festival Hall for which this restaurant offers an adequate pre-performance limited-choice/reasonably priced set menu. The restaurant ambiance is good with views over the Thames. Such food as received was as good as to be expected for the occasion - fit for purpose. But the service is beyond terrible. On arrival at 6pm I asked the manager in charge to confirm that we would be able to eat 2 courses in the 80 minutes available before we would need to take our seats in the auditorium. The restaurant was then only 10% full so his ready confirmation seemed reasonable. Not a bit of it. 50 minutes before the starters arrived, 70 before the mains. Some of our party waited even longer and never saw their mains at all. The problem seems to be in the kitchen yet our bottle of wine never reappeared during the meal despite frequent requests. The waiting staff are as a result frazzled dealing with irate customers. The solution is easy. Until the restaurant can recruit sufficient chefs to meet the volume of customers it must limit reservations so that those unlucky enough to have made a reservation stand some chance of receiving adequate service. Avoid! JWB

Disorganised service. No personalised attention to detail. We told them at booking and at arrival that we had an hour a half, we were going to have a two course set meal and must not be late for the concert (in the same building), yet we just made it by a minute to spare. Waiters lacked focus and concern and it was far too obvious. Thankfully the food was tolerable if well overpriced. Doubtful if we ever return.

acceptable food. miserable service! half an hour waiting for some desserts and another 20 minutes waiting for a coffee a feather! place not to repeat!
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch and excellent service
We visited for lunch. The food was fantastic - well presented, tasty and interesting. I particularly liked the burrata with basil pesto served as a starter. Portion sizes were great for a three course lunch. We found the service to be excellent, especially Anton who made our meal really enjoyable. The restaurant has great views of the river. Worth checking out the lunch menu deals.
Be the first to ReplyTrying to be balanced...but disappointing is probably the word.
I don't like to write poor reviews, so I will start with the positives. The location is wonderful and the view from a table window was great. Our server was polite and friendly and the service was prompt (we were there early for lunch). However, our food was some of the worst I have ever been served in a long time. My Cauliflower soup was cold, and I had ordered a main course portion of Eggs Benedict (they were obliging) and it was inedible. I left it. I did not make a fuss as I had brought family guests and I knew it would be a damper on our day and that they would be uncomfortable. I will not return....sad.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday lunch
As a birthday event, it really could not have gone any better. Perfect location with stunning views of the River, very attentive & courteous service and absolutely first class lunch . Every one of my guests were so impressed by the ambience and the delicious food. Skylon is a fabulous place for a celebratory gathering. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyGreat service
Had afternoon bottomless brunch with friends on the 5/03/23. Service was amazing our waiter was very attentive, only given 4 stars as the food was just good. Will be going back
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch, even better drinks.
One word Aaron. What does that equate to, quite simply the best barman, (bar tender or whatever they are called these days) Iāve come across in LDN in many years. Knowledgeable, interesting and above all makes a damn good drink. We went for our joint birthday lunch on the, Gin Tasting and 3 Course Lunch booking, all of it was excellent. The lunch was just as good, admittedly the fact that is was my mine and my wifeās joint Birthday helped and the views were also great. If you want great drinks and a fantastic lunch you could do a lot worse than here. One tip, when you do go, just make sure itās Aaron behind the bar.
Be the first to ReplyAvoid the corner !!!!!
I have eaten here many times and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My guest and I were the first in the restaurant for an early lunch and showed to a corner table which was a little gloomy but not beyond acceptability. Our order was quickly taken. The food was delicious. The problem was with the service. The first glass was served and the bottle removed. I appreciate this may be to keep the contents cool but each time a refill was required I ended up waving madly at any member of staff who caught my eye, or walking to the front of the restaurant. In addition we were slightly forgotten and had to ask for the bill after our wish to have coffee went unanswered. We explained our disappointment to the manager who sincerely offered free coffee. I shall go back to Skylon, but a WARNING, avoid the corner table and retain your wine on the table !!!
Be the first to ReplyThe perfect place to have a meal
I have visited Skylon twice in the last couple of months. Lovely food, good service and great view of Thames.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday vibes
Kaitlyn and the new manager Disun is a vibe, a great host! The food is banging and the drink is constantly flowing. I honestly cannot recommend a brunch enough! We loved it!
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced overcooked food and poor service
Visited Skylon Belvedere Road restaurant this evening. Very disappointed. Tiny portions. Over priced. Chicken overcooked and very dry. Parmesan chips were disgusting. Waiter tried to serve us warm white wine then was surprised when we refused it. Staff not very attentive or welcoming. Would not go back or recommend to anyone else.
Be the first to ReplyAverage but loved the ambience
Was looking for somewhere special to meet up and looked for options over the net and went through the details of the review to find out its quiet decent. I had artichoke soup which was tasty followed by the duck confiet which was very salty and then the desert which was ok. The service was OK but I don't think I'd repeat the experience to go thr sane place .
Be the first to ReplyChilled day with Prosecco
Been 5 times now with different groups. Had a lovely time every time. The saxophone players and djās can be a little different. Twice weāve felt like we are chilling in Ibiza loving life and twice we have no idea what is going on but this may be seating arrangement to the Dj booth. Food is reliable. I will warn the steak is thin so it you like rare you really need to make that clear or it will be medium to well. Staff are super friendly and attentive. NEVER an empty glass. Put up with giggly women having a lovely day each time. Will be back again. Thank you Just a shame you donāt have an outside patio. Well worth every penny. Discount can be found on virgin experience with a code. Sadly they wonāt match the discount if you contact direct. Iāve tried
Be the first to ReplyGreat value 3 course lunch on the river
Has the 3 course special menu which was excellent quality using fabulous ingredients...we also had the bottomless offer on wine for 2 hours which was great value at Ā£21 Service was top notch too
Be the first to ReplySuper Sunday Brunch
I was looking for a brunch place to take friends to mark (ācelebrateā isnāt quite the right word) my departure from this beautiful city. With itās Thames side location and brunch menu, Skylon fitted the bill perfectly. Food was fabulous; I opted for the avocado on toast, followed by the sea bass en papillote. Several friends opted for the Prosecco option, and their glasses were constantly being re-filled. We had a lovely meal with excellent service. Highly recommended for small parties.
Be the first to ReplySpecial 60th birthday Gin Tasting and Lunch
We arrived a little cold from the horizontal snow, but the welcome from the young lady present was equally as cold. We were asked three times for our name, and then lead without a hello to a table in the bar, where we were left for about 15-20 minutes.
I know today was April Fools day, but we were beginning to think that it might be a joke.
After sometime, a gentleman in a suit, put a cocktails menu and wine menu on our table, asked if we wanted a drink, I asked for a sparkling water, my friend wanted to look at the menu, and asked him to come backā¦. He never did so no sparkling water for me!
Eventually the barman brought us some small glasses of tap water to the table.
And finally we were given some nuts and olives, as someone else was having the gin tasting experience ahead of usā¦ we were confused as we were the first people in the restaurantā¦. So we were then told we could wait a further 10 minutes, or have our lunch. We chose to wait.
Sometime later longer than 10 minutes, the barman who had brought the water over, came to our table with his gin trolley. The gins and his patter were well rehearsed - he was even quite humorous, but the botanicals he gave us to smell, were all old and frankly didnāt smell of anything.. other than dust - even the liquorice which should have been strong smelt of nothing. .
He told us when we were done with the goblets of ice, gin and tonics - and there were three, we should tell him when we were ready for our lunch. We were starving, so shortly afterwards we asked to go to our table - a very pleasant young lady in a green dress escorted us there, and we were presented with the menu, and informed that we - as we were on a voucher, which was a 60th birthday gift from a group of my friends, - were only entitled to the set menu. That was fine, but it would have been nice to have an option to pay for something else if we had wanted it.
So we sat and we sat, having long decided what we were going to chose from the set menu.
We were actually joking that as our booking was only from 12 until 2, they might throw us out!
Eventually we were asked our choices, and again started another long wait. There werenāt that many tables taken in the restaurant, it was far from full, and we began to think that perhaps because we were paying for this by voucher, we were somehow being discriminated againstā¦. But reading other reviews it seems that this is fairly standard.
My friend decided to find the ladies restroom and she was gone a really long timeā¦ when she returned, the story added to the Fawlty Towers effect of this event. The ladies toilets were locked, so she went up a floor, to find that these ladies toilets were also lockedā¦ in desperation she had to use the gents!
After eating our mainsā¦ which were ok she had steak - only being given the choices of medium rare or well doneā¦ which was bizarre, I had cod, which at least was nicely cooked, I also decided to find the restrooms.
So I explained to one of the staff, the locked status of both of sets of toilets, he said he would check with the management, then sent me down the length of the dining room saying it was on the leftā¦.
I duly followed the instruction, but there was nowhere on the left, only a chef, with two other people, the gentleman of the twoā¦.. gave me the nicest greeting we had receivedā¦. By asking with a smile, if he could help me, I explained the situation and another gentleman finally pointed me to the facilitiesā¦.. relief!
I came back to find my friend with the desserts menu, even though it was insisted upon that we ordered our desserts at the very beginning of our order, eventually we handed the menus back to the unpleasant young lady who had not welcomed us when we entered the restaurant, explaining that we had already ordered, but I stopped her dashing off and asked for a teaā¦. Which came before the dessertsā¦.. sigh, at least I could drink it with my dessert.
So we asked for the bill - and once again waited and waitedā¦ eventually we got up put our coats onā¦ and only then did we get presented with the bill.
So taking off the voucher we had to pay for a bottle of sparkling water and the tea, but there was a service chargeā¦. this was marked as discretionaryā¦ so I asked for it to be removedā¦ the service was at best unacceptable and at worst unpleasantā¦ this was done, but at no point was I asked what the problem wasā¦. Frankly the management didnāt appear to care, but I did highlight that the young lady who omitted to welcome us, or do anything other than abandon us at a table in the bar, was the major cause of my upset.
So message to the management if you care, employ staff, who smile, are welcoming in manner, and even if someone is paying for their meal/event by voucher, consider that this may be a special occasion for them, which it should have been for me.
I donāt like giving negative feedback - but it wasnāt a great experience when it should have been a really fabulous experience.
Motherās Day lunch
Iāve been visiting Skylon for over a decade and always enjoyed the visits. However was a little underwhelmed on Sunday.
Yes the food was good. Avocado on toast, sirloin steak, followed by crumble. Mrs x had the same apart from the Trout for main course. Master x had the steak and wolfed it down. All tasty, even if could have been served hotter.
However the menu is a little odd. There are 4 brunch items (eggs Benedict / Avocado on toast etc) + soup on the starters menu. With a normal main menu (trout, vegetarian, steak) seems a bit of an odd combination when you wouldnāt normally want an eggs Benedict followed by a fish / meat course.
Recommend that the brunch items are separated into a different section, then add a couple more starters so that we have have a lunch.
It was Motherās Day, whilst there was a glass of fizz for the mums, some more thought about the menu for this occasion would have been good. The restaurant was full of mums with family and sons / daughters of all ages.
The wine list is expansive and expensive. Not sure this lends itself to the menu pricing. The set meal is Ā£35 for 3 courses which is terrific, but the cheapest wine is Ā£40 and rapidly goes upwards. Ā£17 for a gin and tonic.
So whilst I enjoy the restaurant, the view, good friendly efficient service (especially considering all the tables were taken) Iām not sure what the restaurant is trying to be.
Iād suggest serving an all day menu with some selected mid price wines (rather than the full 20 page wine list). Provide a separate brunch (bottomless if thatās your thing) with selected drinks. The provide the al a carte in the evening with the full menu and full wine list.
So a 3/5 as Iām not sure what itās trying to be.
Best service ever !
Sunny Friday afternoon meander down and up the South Bank , thirsty , we decided to nip in for drinks. What can I say , absolutely spot on attentive service from Pop ! Warm friendly welcome and relaxing drinks with a view of the Thames !
Keep up the great work Pop , you are a superstar !
Lovely Prosecco Brunch :)
Booked the prosecco saxy brunch on a Saturday in March with a small group to celebrate a special birthday. Leading up to our visit I read some reviews on here and started to feel a little worried.... but, NO NEED at all! We had a really lovely visit. We arrived a little early but they accommodated us happily and sat us by the window with lovely views. The staff were very friendly, very helpful and attentive. Couldn't have asked for more really. We had the three course meal from the set brunch menu. Very nice choices, we all enjoyed our food and had no complaints. We asked questions about our choices before ordering and again, staff very polite and happy to help. We also had the bottomless prosecco and the staff were very good at topping us up as soon as they saw glasses were emptied (they also regularly topped up our water which was helpful). It was a beautiful day with excellent views over the south bank. They didn't rush us out when we had finished and brought the bill when we were ready. Would definitely recommend the Skylon Prosecco Brunch.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible service and food not much better
Had to send my steak back 3 times as they couldnāt understand what medium cooked was. I then gave up and ordered risotto. They then had the cheek to charge me for a second round of chips which they brought out because my original ones were cold due to my steak being wrong 3 times! Staff not attentive. Had to ask twice for refills on bottomless brunch. Manager was hopeless and did not apologise once. Dreadful experience - has really gone down hill in the last 6 months - will not be back. Very disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyAverage at best
So this average food of minuscule portions at very large prices. One scallop was sliced into four and served as a starter. Fish was good but barely ten chips. Salt and pepper shakers were empty. Vodka Martini was very poor. Service was average at best and be prepared to be very, very close to the next table and here every word they say. Unimpressed and far better places to go. Donāt mind paying Ā£180 for dinner for two if itās good but this place was really average best. In and out within 90 mins.
