My son worked for the new Soho House in Portland.
Although he was initially excited about this position, he learned early on that he was to work 45+ hours a week for a low hourly rate. So when people on this site complain about the service, understand that the employees are being exploited.

Soho house is a cool place if you want them to run your pockets. SoHo has a very nice ambience, I like the romantic feel that it gives but it is very expensive. Low lighting looks very exclusive. I like the fact they have different levels in different floors so that was very interesting and different from places. I usually go to. I went there for a private event. It was really really nice. I enjoyed the event, but I found myself paying $75 for four drinks and that's not a win for me. I know New York City is expensive but damn. I must say at least the drinks was pretty strong but not strong enough for $75. I wanted to eat some food but I was afraid that I would end up paying $200 just on appetizers so I just enjoyed my event and left.
Be the first to ReplyI came to Soho house with a friend who had a membership.
Once entering in the posh venue , we headed upstairs for drinks and some food to share . I ordered a hot toddy which was spot on ! After we ordered a kale salad and another dish as well . I was impressed by the food , atmosphere and the service was quite good as well . I was ready to be disappointed yet I very satisfied and would consider joining based in my experience !

Sadly, the place is always full (referring to the members area where they serve food and communal space etc - not sure about the actual hotel rooms). Due to the overcrowding they have stopped allowing new memberships, however it's not alleviating the situation. Arriving at SoHo House Meatpacking, as a member, it feels more like arriving at a disorganized overcrowded public space vs. a private members club. Servers are all transient and come from a catering company vs. employees who are onboarded properly to give good service. Can't understate the overcrowding. The perimeter of the room is also full of people standing, hoping to get a table. Like vultures, they circle and it's generally uncomfortable. Ludlow is usually fine. Meatpacking is just old and small and run down and in general crappy. Also the sound system is broken in areas, so the speakers are blowing out music over-modulated. I feel bad for the nice hosts who have to field all the complaints/disappointed looks when member arrive and see there is no room to sit anywhere.

Exclusivity doesn't mean prompt service when to comes to Soho House. While the venue is nice, our waiter was anything but attentive. Ordered drinks, which we had to flag him down to remind him we haven't received anything and his first action was to take orders for another table instead of checking up with the bar. We didn't get our drinks until almost everyone had finished their food (which was the only thing enjoyable). Getting a refill on water was also apparently too much to ask as well. The table next to us also expressed frustration with the same quality of service. Overall experience was less than desirable for this overly exclusive venue.

I love soho house! Definitely recommend this place to anyone who is thinking of becoming a member. I got two cocktails. One was the spicy drink pictured here that the bartender recommended, which was great, and the other was a classic cosmopolitan, like Samantha Jones. I mean, Annabelle Bronstein. It is very cozy inside. Definitely a great place to come for a drink after work and network with the other Manhattanites.

Soho House is an exclusive and exquisite multi-story gem with members-only access that offers an unforgettable experience. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with a beautiful crowd and an even more beautiful atmosphere. The static view of NYC is nothing short of fabulous, adding to the overall charm of the place. What truly sets Soho House apart is its next-level vibe. The energy here is unmatched, creating a unique ambiance that's hard to find elsewhere. #bubblytip: Come for the vibe, not the food (although pasta was good).
Be the first to ReplyWow, things have changed.
Used to be fine. Had an entire pint spilled one me by staff, no apology from management, one free pint. The servers don't want to be there, the opposite of 5 class experience
Be the first to ReplyNothing feels more exclusive than having to wait.
Wait for someone to perhaps take your order, wait in the hot stairwell for over an hour to get on the pool, wait for you food to come because they forgot about it, wait for the slow elevators to come and then get in a building with ratty interior. This place has really gone down - experience is like waiting at an Olive Garden Their answer to everything is just get as many people in one place and make them wait
Be the first to ReplyThis was a very cool spot to hang out.
The rooftop pool is beautiful and the views from the tables up there were my favorite part. The kale salad and the virgin picante were excellent. The restaurant a few floors down was also really cool and beautifully decorated, but the service there was very subpar.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a trendy, members-only social club.
Members get access to exclusive events, as well as discounts on restaurants and hotel rooms. I came with a group of friends on a Friday night. Service in the restaurant was terrible. We kept getting different waiters and none of them were attentive to our table. It was very difficult to flag anyone down to order.Food-wise, I enjoyed the cacio e pepe. It was the perfect portion size with al dente noodles, light sauce, and rich parmesan topping. My friend got the rigatoni bolognese and loved it. The chocolate chip cookies for dessert were crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and very tasty. For my first drink, I had the Matcha Picchu. Though I didn't really taste the matcha tea flavor, it was juicy and fruity. I wouldn't recommend the Soho Sunset as it was watery and not very flavorful. After dinner, it was tough to find seating in the open lounge area so we migrated to the rooftop. The music here was a little too loud. We also saw a cockroach skittering around. They also have an intimate event space with a full bar on the fifth floor. I've enjoyed performances here, however seating is very limited. Overall, it's fun to check out the scene here and they do have interesting events, but I feel the venue is a bit overhyped.

Be the first to ReplyI was really underwhelmed after hearing about so much hype.
Decor may have as well been a Cheesecake Factory, busy, but the food was sad. Told us about a NY Strip special, then I ordered it and they were out. Ok, go for the filet mignon, which was very stringy- like poor quality. Told it came with a salad, was served with fries. I'm from SoCal, and the service was so slow even by California relaxed standards. Took three hours for four of us to have one round of drinks, one app, entrees and a dessert. Honestly I was really surprised at expectation vs reality. $500 for four people but it felt as though I may have been at a chain restaurant with a front desk check in as opposed to something exclusive and worth going out of your way for. Wasn't terrible, but certainly wouldn't want a membership and I definitely wouldn't want to take clients there. Thumbs down.
Be the first to ReplyA very elegant venue and service is very much on point.
I was having a meeting with a member so that's how I got in. I had difficulty opening the tea I ordered but the server did replace that promptly. No complaints here though I'm not sure if there's a dress code or not. I also had a bit of a challenge trying to find the entrance but did get in and had no issues. If invited, I'd return.
Be the first to ReplyRude and pretentious atmosphere.
Drinks were disappointing. No desire to return.

If hell was filled with a bunch of snot bags at the front gates, they'd be less uptight than the front desk snots at Soho House NYC.

Definitely worth a visit if you know someone who's a member! Went here for a date and it was a really interesting experience. It seemed like a lot of people already knew each other - lots if familiar faces to each other. The decor is really warm, inviting and its wooden decor creates a nice atmosphere. The menu is decent and $$$, the drinks are nice etc- which you can easily find at other places. My impression is that the bar is known for being a private club and so that's the main draw.
Be the first to ReplyKind of like being at a Starbucks but more expensive .
Not worth the membership... But fun if you can go with a friend

The service and quality seems to have gone down since my last visit to this location. We ordered drinks and they took forever to arrive and when they did they weren't even good. The chocolate chip cookie was also disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyStayed there last week.
Best place to stay in NYC. Location cant't be beat. Club, bar and restaurant are too notch. Then there's the rooftop bar and pool, ridiculous
Be the first to ReplyMy daughter and I came here with a friend who is a member.
We planned to just have a drink at the rooftop bar. We ended up staying for dinner. The drink was delicious- Eastern Standard. The dinner was a near miss- butter lettuce was overly dressed and gritty. But the salmon and avocado were spot on! We had a great time.
