IMPECCABLE
Amazing food, super helpful service! A place to go and remember the joy of being Portuguese! Incredible cod and wine!
Be the first to ReplyWarm welcome to these tourists
Food was delicious and service was warm and welcoming. I don’t know where the people who wrote negative reviews about tourists not being welcomed ate, but our experience was the opposite. The waiter helped us find authentic local dishes. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyNothing else!
Traditional, but it seems to be losing quality. The food was reasonable, very basic, the environment needed a good renovation, we left with our clothes and hair smelling strongly of cooking.
Be the first to ReplyDont go. They dont like non-locals.
I do not recommend. Other reviews about treating non-locals are valid. We were not said hello to, we were not given a choice of water, we had to ask for the menu, and the drinks menu. No one explained the specials (which were in Portuguese on the first page) to us. The food was good but you can easily find comparable around the city where the staff at least pretend to go through the facade of being a waiter/waitress. MAJOR reason why I’m leaving this review is because they told me they dont take card. Then said the bar will ring me up. Then the bartender told me it was broken. They told me to go around the corner to an ATM. The ATM was a 15 min walk and I had to pay the ATM + conversion fee. They should have told us it was broken from the start so we could have went before the end. HOWEVER while waiting for me, right in front of my girlfriend they rang up a local through the machine without hesitation. They specifically didn't want us paying with a card. 1/5 because 0 isnt an option. Disrespectful service. Other Lisbon restaurants deserve your money.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent reception and magnificent cuisine
A more welcoming, best restaurant in Lisbon by a great friend and professional Zé to with excellent service and excellent spirits. Well done

Typical Portuguese restaurant, with 35 years of history, and recommendations in the Michelin Guide for more than ten years. Heavy, dark and old-fashioned decor. Several starters arranged on the table, with "joselito" ham and a very good octopus salad. We ordered a sour soup, which I forgot didn't come, some acceptable grouper fillets with good razor clam rice, and some very fresh red mullet. The dessert, a somewhat floury Catalan cream, was offered to us in compensation for the failure of the soup. In my opinion, he lives more on past glories than on a dubious present.
Be the first to ReplyI swear I won't go back.
I made reservations in advance, booked the wild boar leg (which a local friend recommended) and off we went. Well, it didn't take the boar 2 hours to get to the table! It's cold ! We returned it to heat properly and tried our best to keep it in line (we did). But that one doesn't get me anymore. Not even for free.

Excellent food, carefully prepared and with five-star service 🥂 The space is very friendly, very good, indeed!

Hostile service and deliberate overcharging. One of the worst meals I’ve ever had. As other reviewers have said, Michelin should strike Solar dos Nunes from its guide entirely. The service is hostile and the food unremarkable. Case in point: They feign that their credit card machine is broken. After you make a 8-min trip to the ATM, they charge you for something you didn’t order. And after you ask them to correct the order, they clawback their overcharge by giving you less change. Don’t go here.
Be the first to ReplyDoes not Like Tourists and does not Cater to Tourists
This was the worst place we visited on our trip! We had heard such great things - my fiancee booked this as a Birthday Lunch and it was an absolute disaster! The serving staff were rude - the did not want to cater to tourists - There was one section of the menu in English - the staff did not want to help us with the Daily specials! The serving staff continued to serve the tables around us and pouring their wine and left us to serve ourselves. I do not know how the reviews of this place are so good - I would not recommend this place to anyone
Be the first to ReplyA quick evening......
The restautant has a rustic, typical portuguese charme, the food was good, they could deal with my nutricional allergies but we felt totally rushed, the main dishes were served while we were still eating the starters, all had to be very quick and - although it is clear that every table would be occupied more than one time every evening - it is not comfortable if guests feel this the whole time......
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, surly waiter, questionable starter policy
I'll start off and say everyone at our table enjoyed the food immensely. I've eaten a lot of octopus in my life and this was the best.
With that said, we were glad to be warned by other reviewers to be careful when you sit down as the table is pre-arrayed with starters. If you don't tell them to remove them, you get to pay for all of them. Note, the cost is reasonable per starter, but they put 10 starters on the table so the total price is crazy. And, anyone who could eat all of these starter AND their meal has an amazing appetite. Bottom line: tell them to remove them if you don't want the 10 starters (or just keep the ones you like).
Next, the waiter was surly. I'd say very surly. I know Americans have odd expectations, but a smile wouldn't kill a person. Or maybe a slight acknowledgement of a "thank you" or an "obrigado".
Next, we were given one menu for the table (no biggy), but the pages were stuck together by some type of glutinous substance that was kind of disgusting. And, this is a Michelin 1 star. Maybe a clean menu isn't one of Michelin's criteria?
And finally, when the bill was presented, we put down our credit card and were told, "we are having problems with our machine" and he walked off in a huff. We fortunately had cash so it wasn't an issue. But, we did see other guests pay with cards. Hum, maybe the waiter was mad because we didn't fall for the "starter upcharge". And this is a Michelin 1 star so it's a bit shocking.
Anyhow, we won't be back, but that octopus will live one as a very happy dining memory:)
Bad Bad
Yesterday we were invited by very dear friends expats who wanted to please us and take us to Solar dos Nunes. I had been there 3 years ago and had a very decent memory.
Unfortunately the decline has been rough. The waiter seemed very unenthousiastic and rude. We are supposed to be in a selected place right? Before sitting the table was totally filled with starters such as ham, cheese in double or triple portions which is charged if you consume. This is a bit tricky if you re not local and don t want to seem greedy with some ladies, which means that all these little plates will be charged just because you had a little bite. And probably the plates you haven t touched as well. Very uggly manners...
Then, even though the menu seems very appealing, the quality of the meat was very poor, specially the meats. The orders were mixed up and delayed, a total disaster. A very bare apology was made. Too bad for a once nice place with a nice history to end up like this. I feel terrible for the friend who invited us.
One of the best!
Excellent food (Especially the cheese) , nice servers, good wine. The tables are very close which proves difficult when the servers are well… serving! But I think it added to the experience.
Be the first to ReplySHAMEFUL EXPERIENCE - PLEASE AVOID
We were very thrilled to spend our last night in Lisbon at this well know restaurant. Therefore we booked a table by phone. Even if we had arrived on time, the lady gruffly told us to wait outside the restaurant for a table. However, we were ignored for 20 minutes, by both the waiters and the owner who was entertaining (without the mask) the customers sitting at the table instead of welcoming us at the door. After asking again, another waiter told us that our table wasn't ready because we were told it would be "until 10" instead of “at 10”. This was absolutely false. After being silenced our complaints, we left the venue and were chased by the waiter who threatened us for no reason. Who knows if he was ready to hit us...Is this the way a Michelin-starred restaurant retains customers? PLEASE AVOID
