I recently hosted a party for a group of 16 friends and had a thoroughly wonderful experience from start to finish. Petra is the catering manager I worked with and she guided me through the process, from selecting the location at the restaurant, to food and wine selection, and finalizing the contract. On the day of the event I was thrilled at how beautifully the room was put together. They had even printed the menus for my guests in advance. Paula was our captain for the day and she was exceptional, as was the entire service staff. It was the kind of experience where food and drink were being delivered, and dirty dishes being removed, always at the right time. The food was incredible, served hot and delicious, and my guests were very happy. I highly recommend Solare whether for a late night meal at the bar or a special event.

Had an amazing time here! My boyfriend and I had a rough time getting into town with flight delays and rental car mishaps but the second we came here for lunch we finally felt like our vacation started. Francisco was the best server, so polite and personable and funny - checked in on us plenty and gave good recommendations. The food was unreal! We did the charcuterie plate, the pear and fig salad, the butternut squash soup and two pastas - the pappardelle and the seasonal truffle ravioli. Everything we tasted was perfect and we honestly can't wait to be back! Great service and even greater food - located in a really nice area with plenty of parking too!
Be the first to ReplySo very disappointing.
Cute little place, good variety and menu options. Then it stopped. Service was horrible...........not bad, horrible. Food was edible, but zero to write home about. We had osso bucco, eggplant, risotto and lasagna. No one felt their meal was 'delicious'................all said ok I've had better lasagna in a frozen meal. Not impressed.
Be the first to ReplyFood was ok.
The service was too slow and did not get our order correctly multiple times. Ambiance was quiet and low key for lunch.
Be the first to ReplyStopped in for a drink and a small lunch.
They have such a huge selection of wines I was genuinely surprised. Our server was very nice and service was fast. I decided to go with a glass of Terre della Tosa Gutturnio Superiore. It was very good, not too dry, and easy to drink. Paired it with their Cotto e Funghi Pizza. Crust was good, ingredients all tasted very fresh 8/10. Ambience was very relaxing not a lot of people at around 12pm. Took my pup and she had a good time and got to run around the grass after our lunch. Will be back to try some more wine and other menu options

This is the cute restaurant, and they have a very cozy patio warm enough with gas heater. Focaccia was so light and fluffy, but the EVOO took the spotlight as it has such an amazing flavor ( I am a bit of connoisseur). We absolutely LOVED Burrata salad, it was so good and well balanced of flavor and texture. Only one thing I wasn't keen about was Fried Calamari Sauce. It tasted like mixed flavor of puréed roasted pepper and Tabasco. Very sweet and I wasn't sure it pair well with seafood... I prefer marinara sauce. But everything else was great! Pork chop was so moist, even it was very thick piece. Side veggies were perfectly cooked and refreshing and we truly enjoyed our dining experience.

came on valentines and to be honest it was a very underwhelming experience . it was a fixed menu and usually those aren't so great. The lobster soup was cold and literally only 3 spoonfuls. for the price my bf paid, i was expecting it to be great, really disappointed :(

This place has fanatic service and the best gluten free bread and pizza. Everything from the bread to pasta is made on site.
Be the first to ReplyWent to art walk today and stopped in to Solare for lunch.
Sat outside with our corgi fergus. Ordered the ceaser salad and the margarita pizza to share. The salad was fresh and very well dressed with tons of cheese. The pizza was excellent. The sauce was not sweet - thankfully. I detest sweet sauce on my pizza. The crust was tasty as was the cheese. It was a bit soupy but delicious. Total bill with tip was around $30. Plenty of outdoor seating. Fergus loved the free bread, the pizza crust and the all you can eat ice cubes!!
Be the first to ReplyThis is my second time at this restaurant and I will not be
This is my second time at this restaurant and I will not be returning. I took one of my best friends out for her birthday on Friday, 7/29. We initially tried Buona Forchetta, but the wait was almost an hour and we were already pretty hungry. So the hostess told us to check our Solare. I checked Open Table and there was a reservation available about 15 minutes out so we opted for that. We were seated quickly and our server came by to take drink orders but we only wanted water and were ready to order our meals. She came back a few minutes later and took our orders; we had a pretty average wait time (15-20 minutes). About 10 minutes into the wait, we eventually received the complimentary bread and olive oil.I usually order a seafood dish when I dine out; I ordered the Linguine Alle Vongole and my friend ordered Ravioli di Ricotta e Spinaci. I was disappointed when I received my dish because half the clams were missing (and I checked the pasta to see if any were floating around but they were simply empty shells). My dish was bland and my friend said the same about hers. We tried each other's dishes and confirmed that they were flavorless. To top it all off, after our server delivered our dishes, she did not return until we cleared our plates and were ready for the bill. When she came to pick up our dishes, she didn't even ask how our meal was, but she asked if we wanted dessert. It's as if we annoyed her by our presence when that is in fact her job - to serve us in exchange for getting paid. Obviously, we said no. We actually went back to Buona Forchetta just to have Tiramisu and that was way better than our meals at Solare. I almost didn't tip, but I know times are tough. I was extremely disappointed and quite shocked with all the positive reviews. I really hope Solare takes my review into consideration especially for a special occasion as a birthday. Please work with your servers and their attitudes so they can provide a pleasant experience for the paying customers.

Wow. We had an amazing dinner here. It was our first time but we tried many other restaurants in Liberty Station. Everything was fresh and delicious. They fish of the day was superb. My husband ordered the ravioli and it was amazing. These are both dishes we usually don't order in an Italian restaurant but wanted to try something different (for us) and it was worth it. (The couple sitting next to us came by to ask about our meal (and dessert- see foto) and they said their ossobuoco (spelling??) was to die for.) We shared a tiramisu and it also delicious -- plus arrived in adorable design! Finally, the espresso was perfection. Easy parking because it's at the edge of LS and great walk to the water for a stroll.

We truly appreciated all of the gluten-free options including the pasta, pizza, fresh bread and dessert! Thank you for the amazing atmosphere and service!
Be the first to ReplyNice atmosphere, delicious food! Service was great.
The catch of the day had one of the most amazing sauces I have ever had. The second dish we got was the risotto which was cooked perfectly and the scallops were perfectly seared. We will definitely be going back!
Be the first to ReplyLOVE this restaurant.
Elevated cuisine but a super chill patio. And a great waitstaff. Third time here and coming again soon! Really interesting dishes and great weekly specials. There were a lot of folks sitting at the same time so it took us a bit to get someone to come over and bring water. That was the only glitch - the rest of the meal and service was perfection.Adriana was our server. She had a bunch of tables but did a fab job.COCKTAIL: Got the Bitter Seduction again. It was too delicious the last time. A perfect summer cocktail. Really refreshing but not too sweet.BREAD COURSE: As I said last time, the foccacia is good, not great - but the olive oil here is off the hook.APPETIZER/ENTREE: It was too hot for soup. I didn't want any of their salads tonight (warm salad, not so exciting in the summer, and meh on caesar). So I decided to get two vegetarian entrees and have them as app/dinner LOL. Adriana suggested that the special ravioli (red beet!) was best for the app, and I should do the eggplant parm as my entree. RED BEET RAVIOLI in a taleggio cream sauce, with hazelnuts and fried leeks: super delish. And the intense red-purple of the red-beet feeling was so beautiful!! Big portion. But I was hungry so still ready for my entree. My sweetie got the soup of the day which was a minestrone-type soup (vegetable base). It was not very large, or as unusual as their butternut squash soup but it was tasty.ENTREE: My sweetie got the spinach ravioli again - great dish. I got the melanzane parmagiana. ABSOLUTELY THE EGGPLANT PARM OF DREAMS. Very generous portion, with perfectly broiled cheese on top and just lucious soft eggplant. Yes, I'll get this again. It was very big so I will also have some for leftovers.DESSERT: This is still not my fave course here - we go to other places with more inventive dessert menus. But the chocolate mousse cafe is definitely better than the chocolate salumi. My sweetie got it, and I took a few happy bites. They have a huge wine list and also 1/2 glasses of the special wines of the week. Some day I'll try them too, but for now the cocktail program is the thing here for me (and I'm a lightweight LOL).

I'm sitting at the bar by myself and it took 45 minutes for my meal to come out. I asked the bartender if the food was coming out anytime soon and she went to go check. I see that she forgot to place the order as she punches it in right in front of me. Not once did she apologize or even mention the slip up. Two other people sit down next to me and get their meals in less than 10 minutes. I wanted to get dessert but furious at this point. Food came out undercooked but didn't want to wait another 45 minutes for the food to be fixed. So disappointed.

Be the first to ReplyI had a lovely dinner here with some friends on a Saturday
I had a lovely dinner here with some friends on a Saturday night. It was easy to make a reservation on Open Table, since we didn't want to have to stand around and wait wherever we were eating. One of my friends was there early, and he was hanging out in the bar waiting for us.We ordered a couple appetizers to start, the arancini, and the mixed fried plate with shrimp and veggies. The shrimp were amazing, big gulf shrimp with a great flavor. Everything else was good, as well. One of my friends and I ordered the zucchini pasta, and the other ordered the lasagna. Our zucchini was light, with lots of flavor. It wasn't a huge portion, so I ended up eating it all. The friend that ordered the lasagna said it was a slightly different taste than he was used to. I tried a bite of it, and it seemed like a rich Bolognese sauce, with some bechamel as well. We also had some desserts, and we all ordered our own without sharing! I had the chocolate mousse cake, which was delicious. My friends seemed to enjoy their creme brulee and tiramisu (which came in a little clay pot, and was garnished with mint to look like a sprout, so cute!).The owner cane by to check on us, and chat for a little bit. Everyone was friendly, and allowed to spend a little extra time with our meal. I'm looking forward to coming back, and trying other things from the menu.

Having never been to Liberty Station before, we stumbled upon Solare, and boy are we ever glad we did! Our dinner was so delicious (Linguine alle Vongole, Eggplant Parmesan, Caesar Salad), we returned the following day for lunch (Pappardelle Bolognese, Zuppa del Giorno - which was roasted eggplant, and the table's favorite...Frittura di Pesce all'Italiana)! DELIZIOSO!!!This restaurant has it all...delicious food, a wonderful wine selection, and fabulous service! Randy + his team really knocked it outta the park! We live in San Juan Capistrano, so we've decided that next time we are grabbing our friends & hopping on the train to come down for another delightful evening at Solare! Grazie!

Do not come here! My girlfriend and I came here for restraint week and it was horrible. While mine was ok (not worth 40 dollars), hers was tiny she had a bowl of soup that took 3 bites to eat and for her entree she had the ravioli and she got 5 tiny raviolis. The service was ok but very rushed. We will definitely not be returning.

We came for restaurant week, which gave us a great way to taste a good selection of their food. Located in liberty station, this yummy Italian restaurant had amazing food, service and overall great vibes. While this was my first time dining here, I can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu. We selected everything off of the restaurant week menu, which was a great price for a three course meal. I also ordered the lemon drop, which was super strong and great for its price.
Be the first to ReplyTLDR: 4.
5 stars, enjoyed visit, look forward to returning.Patio: extremely pleasant, 5 starsHostesses: extremely friendly, warm and efficient (they help with bussing), 5 stars; server had lots of tables tonight but still good, 4.5 starsFlavors: very nice and refined, 4.5 starsFood temperature: my pasta was less hot than I like, 4 starsPortion size + price/value ratio, 3-4 starsSo we came during Restaurant Week, and you can choose the restaurant or à la carte menu. I chose the RW menu ($40) because there was an app that looked tasty that wasn't on the regular menu. Portions were smaller than the regular portion and I would not necessarily have been full after 3 courses (which is really 2 courses + a dessert cocktail if you don't want orange-peel panna cotta, the only other dessert choice, for your dessert). But we ordered some extra dishes, which is what they seem to want folks to do right now and then we were full.APPS: I got the Beet and Fava Bean Salad - Nell'Orto, only on the RW menu. It was very refreshing and I'm glad I got to taste it, but I would not necessarily get it again. One thing I'll say: it was really well seasoned. So many restaurants do not know how to use salt properly, and that's probably one reason Solare got a Bib Gourmand mention from the Michelin folks. Not a huge portion - more like if you're doing a 5 course tasting menu and you need to pace yourself!I also got a cup of Butternut Squash soup (Zuppa di Zucca, off the regular menu). It was lovely and also had a refined flavor, including amaretto crumbs. My sweetie ordered the Zuppa of the day, which was a fagioli (bean soup). I had a taste and thought it was very delicious and earthy. That was not on the RW menu & would probably have been more filling than what I had.We didn't get any bread but we wondered if they might serve it, so once we asked, they remembered to bring us the house focaccia, which comes in cubes with olive oil and balsalmic. The focaccia was very well seasoned again, which probably distinguished it for the Michelin folks. ENTREES: My sweetie and I *never* get the same things (pescatarian/vegetarian preference here, carnivore there). But we both wanted the Ravioli di Ricotta e Spinaci. RW portion is 5 ravioli, regular menu portion 7 ravioli. Also very refined and the butter/sage sauce was so delectable. My one disappointment here is that my pasta was not hot - and I am not a big fan of lukewarm pasta. But it seemed too much bother to ask for it to be reheated. I still liked the flavors.DESSERT: My only choices on the RW menu were orange-peel panna cotta or a dessert cocktail. I was still hungry and wanted something chocolate, so had to add on something from the regular menu. Mousse al Cioccolato e Caramello. Very large and very rich. Not a wow, but very tasty and respectable. I still had the dessert cocktail coming, so I saved most of the mousse cake to take home - and I must say that the dessert cocktail was maybe my favorite course. Craft Cocktail : "Springtime in Italy: Italian Sardinian Mirto liqueur, Italian Prosecco, and lemon sorbet (Tommy's cocktail creation!)". Very tasty, light, sweet and unique flavors. Glad to be able to taste that. Overall, I enjoyed this restaurant a lot - the patio is awesome, the food was interesting, and the hostesses really make you feel at home (for a Michelin restaurant it was a very professional/warm rather than pretentious welcome). I'm hoping that when we come for not restaurant week, the portions for other things might be a bit bigger. And I'll probably know to ask that my pasta be served hot! But otherwise it was great to finally visit here and see for myself why it was elevated above other restaurants in town for the Michelin folks.
Be the first to ReplyI have been dining here for many years.
Superb Italian food and service. Will keep going regularly. Not another red sauce southern Italian restaurant.

I got the pasta which had a strong seasoning didn't enjoy it much but service and ambiance was great. Our waiter was interesting to the point where we couldn't hold out a plate to him. It was funny but overall good experience
