Another fun dinner at S&P
Never have we had better apps than the fried oysters and calamari at S&P. They were crisp, plentiful and not overly battered - delicious!
Be the first to ReplyGood food, mediocre service, not kid friendly at all
I love a great seafood restaurant and was craving oysters so decided to stop here while visiting mystic. Unfortunately, this restaurant is not ever kid friendly. It’s clear that they are geared more towards adults since they have no high chairs or boosters, and apparently you can’t bring in strollers either. But they did have a kids menu which was weird. Maybe it’s because we had our young kids with us but we didn’t get the service that we usually get in NYC. The food however was good. The oysters were delicious and tuna tacos were so refreshingly good. Also had the tuna tartare which we weren’t a big fan of. Great views of the water as well. I wish they were more kid friendly.

The oysters were great. Good selection and well shucked. The view is great and the decor pleasing. The staff friendly and efficient. The desserts were really tasty if very traditional. The entrees were where the problem was. Lobster was glaringly missing from the menu except for the special. The salmon wasn’t terrible but the paella was pretty bad. The rice was soggy and the seasoning off. The shrimp looked like they were microwaved and tossed in. Instead of chunks of sausage there were tiny shavings. I suspect the paella was made by taking the side dish rice and placing it in a dish with the seafood. Either do it right or get it off the menu. The wine by the glass was great but the drinks from the bar was watery. I watched the bartender using a jigger and not filling it.
Be the first to ReplyGreat oysters… fantastic views
Beautiful outdoor seating right near the bridge. Waitstaff is fantastic and we very much enjoyed the oysters. I ordered a salad and I wish the ingredients were a bit fresher - it was clear the vegetables were on the older side. I would still come back for the oysters and just not order any salads.
Be the first to ReplyOur favorite restaurant on the East Coast
Always a favorite restaurant on our visits to the East Coast from Dallas, Texas. The ambience is romantic on the river. The food and wine selections are wonderful. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Our "Thanks" for another great evening to Jeremy, Ryan, Ollie & Abby! Can't wait to return!

Excellent food, drinks, and service. Gorgeous views. We came here for an impromptu birthday lunch. After hearing the specials, my husband and I both decided to get lobster rolls. We also had a lemonade cocktail that was delicious and refreshing. The lobster rolls did not disappoint. We both agreed they were the best we’d ever had. While a bit on the pricey side, we left with zero complaints and felt that our meal was well worth the money. We will definitely be back the next time we’re in town.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Staff, Food Declining
Staff was wonderful and attentive as always. Chris and Ryan were on point, stopping by the table often and offering suggestions. Now onto the food... for appetizers the raw oysters were fresh and succulent and calamari was cooked perfectly. Crisp coating and tender calamari with a nice spicy Thai dipping sauce. The kids entrees and kids meal still stands out with non traditional kids menu items like fried shrimp and fish and chips. My wife had the seared tuna special which she said was tasty but didn't sit well afterward. The big disappointment was the filet and stuffed shrimp meal. The filet was overcooked and had to be sent back then cam back very rare not medium rare but that happens. The colossal stuffed shrimp were actually 2 jumbos with a scoop of flavorless stuffing on each. All in all very not worth the price

We enjoy this place. We have been many times and we have enjoyed most things. Oysters are always fresh and I like their chowder.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely delicious! Wonderful night out!
The service, the view, the food--wonderful! I thought some portions were just a little skimpy but otherwise OMG delicious. The staff seemed to really like each other, which is always nice to see. Really fun, great food.

Went to S&P on Tuesday afternoon, June 27 for a late lunch/early dinner meal. I have been to S&P at least 10 times. I love to eat out on the patio overlooking the river. I love it when the draw bridge goes up. I had the Tuna Tartare and Seafood Paella—both were and 11 out or 10. Also a great presentation. My friend had the Seafood Ambrosia with a seared scallop appetizer. He had a large smile on his face, saying it was the best mean he ever had. Had two great waiters working with us but I forgot their names. But I had a great conversation with Gerta (a great name—she was from Eastern Europe originally). She was the service manager. You can really tell why the service is so outstanding. Gerta circled the patio area constantly, speaking with staff and having conversations with the patrons. Her presence there gives the restaurant a “great vibe.” She had a great put you at ease smile for everyone with a welcoming and appreciative attitude and respect for the customers. I am going to Foxwoods tomorrow, you will bet I will be back at S&P again. If only to have another meet and greet with Gerta. I must honestly say (and apologize for it but .. .) she is a stunning looking woman who makes you feel like you are the only person in the world when speaking with her. She spent a lot of time after the meal speaking about the many good things the restaurant was working on. I will make sure that Gerta is working the day we head to S&P 😊. She will make the visit to an excellent restaurant an outstanding experience. We often underestimate in a very popular and highly though of restaurant with incredible food, how the staff and their supervisors really make it a great experience beyond just the meal.

The four of us had a lovely dining experience, sitting at a table inside by a window overlooking the water! We even saw the Mystic River Bascule drawbride (built in 1922) open outside our window seat. Executive Chef Edgar Cobena, originally from Ecuado, was professionally trained at the Culinary Institute of America. FYI, this restaurant offers a gluten free & also a vegan menu. Their website says, "Farm & Sea to Table." Since this restarant is in Mystic though, we all ordered seafood dishes, which were delicious. I took off 1/2 a star, as I thought it was chintzy that they didn't serve any bread or rolls with our dinner entrees. We live out-of-state & were visiting friends in the Mystic area. Our friends though did order the "House Made Rosemary Focaccia" which had an extra charge. Heads up that parking in downtown Mystic can be a challenge.

Sometimes you find a restaurant that's as close to perfect as possible. This was our experience at S&P Oyster Restaurant. We were lucky enough to have a table outside on a lovely summer afternoon, with a view of the river and the drawbridge. (The bridge is kind of nifty to watch in action!) The menu is extensive and everything we ordered was delicious. Drinks were great, too! As usual, I must say a word about how well the servers looked out for my husband's food allergy. (BTW, S&P has an extensive gluten-free menu and lots of vegetarian/vegan options.) Even better, our server team let us know that for once he *could* have dessert, a vegan chocolate mousse that sounded so good, I had it too. Best decision ever! Very rich without being heavy. A word of caution: Make reservations. No surprise that a place this good is busy! When we arrived a bit before opening time for lunch, there was already quite a line! In addition to all of the above, S&P has lovely flowers planted all around the site. It really added to what was already a lovely experience. Come here and enjoy!

We had a nice indoor view of the river, but you can also eat outside. Make sure you have a reservation!
