I've been to the LA location but this was my first time
I've been to the LA location but this was my first time trying the NYC location.Edamame: standardTuna Sashimi: pretty good in ponzu/chive sauceSushi: got the Nozawa Trust Me - fish were all tasty but was really overshadowed by the bad mushy/overly sticky rice (felt overcooked). Maybe that day was a bad batch of rice, but it ruined the nigiri experience. It was ok ish for the hand rolls, but the rice ended up sticking everywhere. If I can ignore the rice problem, all the fish were really good and fresh tasting. Didn't really need soy sauce. I enjoyed the actual fish flavor and textures.Might have to see if they have a Sashimi option in the future, since I can't get over the rice.In true Japanese fashion, this place is a no tipping establishment.Ambiance wise, it's very crowded and close to each other, definitely not covid friendly. The tables also don't move so there's not much legroom for the long legs family.

I had the pleasure of trying the chef's omakase at Sugarfish when I was in NYC and it was one of the best omakase experiences I've had. The quality of the fish was amazing and the presentation was beautiful. For the price, it's an amazing bang for your buck - my Filipina gf and I left feeling incredibly satisfied and amazed at the quality of the meal. This location was conveniently located for us post-Broadway show and open late enough to accommodate our schedule. I especially loved the eel and tuna - they were delicious! If you're looking for a memorable sushi experience in NYC, don't hesitate to check out Sugarfish.

Great smooth service and tip already included in price. Open late perfect for a late night city meal.

It's easily one of the best value for dollar sushi experiences in NYC. $72 for "don't think just eat" and they bring you most (if not all) of the daily limited selections. Premium choices like O Toro and Kombu Salmon as well as some of the typical favorites like house marinated albacore. It's a non-tipping restaurant so what you see is what you get when the bill shows up. It's a beautiful restaurant so don't sweat if you have to wait a little while for a table. I've been here dozens of times and will continue to return as often as I can. Minus one full star because almost every time I've been here the meal ends up taking more than 90 minutes which is just nuts for a busy lunch restaurant in midtown.

.. don't ask for any sauces , or even low sodium soy. The food was cold and it he service subpar. Avoid about... basic and bad.
Be the first to ReplyGot the Trust Me omakase since the toro sets were sold out.
The place is kinda small but the staff greeted me right away and seated me at the bar. For how busy it was, they were pretty attentive and efficient. I eat pretty fast so I did have to wait a bit for my next sushi to come out. The fishes are fairly fresh. I didn't like how much rice vinegar they used though. It distracted me from the actual taste of the fishes. My favorites were the hand rolls; Toro hand roll and crab hand roll.

I'm a huge fan of Kazu Nori so I was excited to try Sugarfish here in NYC. I've tried it in LA years and years ago but I wasn't super impressed - I knew I was going to enjoy the handrolls so I still looked forward to trying. Love that you can leave your phone number and be texted - such a game changer and you don't have to wait in a line like at Kazu Nori. We got the Trust Me, and added a Lobster Roll. The edamame is unnecessary for me lol but the tuna sashimi is yummy, the sauce was good. Honestly half the sushi pieces were kinda meh and the other half was decent. The rice kind of just falls apart and isn't packed well. The hand rolls as great as I'd thought but I forgot to get the scallop one which I love!!! Definitely coming back for the hand rolls when I don't want to wait in line at Kazu Nori haha.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent sushi, but tiny portions and very pricey.
No reservations, so the staff moved you fastGreat food but feels like a rushed noisy cafeteria

Great service, very nice setting (simple but elegant), and great food. Love that it is a no tipping restaurant. Very reasonably priced for such good sushi. Definitely get the 'Trust Me' omakase option, that is what they are known for and it was great. Fish was incredibly fresh and melted in your mouth. And the rice was warm, making for a great compliment to the cool fish. Highly recommend, only issue is no reservations

Can never go wrong with Sugarfish! Went here for my birthday with my nephew, and he loves it too!
Be the first to ReplyGreat sushi.
Very fresh. Busy and no reservation. Better to do takeout if nearby. Expensive. Good quality.
Be the first to ReplyNot that this place needs any extra love but it's seriously
Not that this place needs any extra love but it's seriously just the best, freshest, most melt in your mouth sushi out there. They have a system and they perfected it. However they source their fish, served exactly the way they say it should be, limited to three omakase menu options - it works. You walk in, put your name down, wait a bit (not too long) and sit down for an omakase experience that should cost at least double what it actually costs. The service and quality is consistently excellent across the NYC locations and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good sushi meal.

Be the first to ReplyThis place has so much hype.
And I truly do not understand it. It is okay sushi. Some of it is borderline good. But the menu is very restricting and so much of it is just straight up fish with little creative or variance. Not totally my style, but if you are a tuna purist, you will probably really enjoy it. The atmosphere is really nice and dimly lit and feels luxe, but I will not be coming again.

Decided to try sugar fish after reading so many positive reviews and it did not disappoint! We arrived around 5:50pm on a Tuesday and there was already a waitlist. I really enjoyed the ambiance and vibes of the restaurant. ..We tried their "Don't think. Just eat." Menu $67USD - which includes a sashimi course (Tuna), 7 orders of nigiri sushi (salmon, lean tuna, fatty tuna, pink lobster, kanpachi, sea bream, eel), and 2 handrolls (temaki, lobster).Everything tasted so fresh and delicious! My favourite was the lean tuna and fatty tuna - absolutely divine!.My only criticism is that the temperature of the rice was off in the hand rolls and also some nigiri...fish was cold but rice was hot. The rice in the hand rolls weren't just warm... it was HOT.

after hearing great things about sugarfish, I was very excited to try!! sadly, their dont think just eat set ($67) was not available this night, so we opted for the nozawa trust me ($55). I have been to a few omakase restaurants, and I will definitely say the value at sugarfish is there! for $55, I left feeling very full and the quality of fish was on par with the price, nothing crazy. But I absolutely love the seaweed they use!! would definitely recommend to anyone who is new/looking for affordable omakase!

I jus love the sushi and I sooo the appreciate the staff. No reservations so it gets quite hectic at the front. I've gotten to know the manager, Sasha, from my frequent visits and he is fantastic at what he does. A few (at least) of the people waiting for a table always seem to be either impatient and or rude and he kept his cool and couldn't of been more kind and a perfect disposition for his job. Jenn and Haley served my girlfriend and myself and they make the experience soooo much more pleasant. I've had the pleasure of being helped by Jenn before and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how much my girlfriend and I COMPLETELY appreciate her. She's jus that special. Tonight Haley helped Jenn take care of our table and the two of them could not of been more kind, sweet and helpful. We love (and appreciate) when they take the (extra) time to let us know what each piece is. Jenn and Haley are both conscientious and along with Sasha, they are all nice reflections of the Sugarfish brand.

Be the first to ReplyReally liked this place for it's value, was really full
Really liked this place for it's value, was really full after the "trust me" course (usually I leave sushi places still slightly hungry...)! The wait for two people on a Saturday night was also not too long, we got there at 7 and were seated around 7:20, the servers there also gave me water while waiting :)The docked star is due to the pacing, I felt slightly rushed by how fast each course was coming out. Not the worst thing, but just something I noticed.
