Loved this tons of food and fish was fresh the ambiance was a little flat but the food and saki made up for it... this is a must go!

I would give the omakase experience 10 stars if I could! The food, the presentation, the explanations, all outstanding! Our favorites were the fatty tuna and the cod, but with so many offerings, it's hard to choose. This is a complete evening dining experience. Do not rush; add a bottle saké, relax and enjoy. It's expensive but sooo worth it!

this place is WAYYYYY overpriced they charged me 16 flipping dollars for 2 GLASSES of sparkeling water. WATER. in total I got 3 rolls 2 miso soups and 2 sparkling waters and a coke and my total was $88 + an additional tip. The food was good but not worth it.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful Omakase experience in Washington, D.
C. Superbly fresh and meticulously prepared. Hats off to the staff who were so warm and welcoming. A small piece of Japan in the Nation's Capital.

Very serviceable if you're into great quality and hard to source fish. No frills and pricey, so expect that. I was very impressed by the generous portions. Definite return
Be the first to ReplyThe food here was really good.
I order the special sushi assortment and the fish was super fresh.

Food was good and fresh and service was attentive and polite. I was a little confused by the 20% service charge. I asked "is this a tip". Was told it's a service charge. I'm still confused what the purpose of the charge. I was a single diner..

I had such high hopes, but they were quickly dashed by lack of attention to detail and a focus on filler vs sushi. Skip this place and go to Sushi Nakazawa instead. The staff was the only saving grace, kuddos to the wonderful people that work there. We sat down and immediately saw problems, the linen table cloth was stained in multiple locations and was so wrinkled to the point that it stood out. When I'm paying over $200pp for a meal I expect to have a nice experience. We got the 4 course omakase meal, I really didn't know what to expect as there wasnt a lot of info about on their site that I could find. The meal was nicely paced but included a lot more non-sushi items than I expected. We got things like Miso soup and egg custard with crab. We also got a total of 12 pieces of nigiri. The nigiri was solid but there was only 1 or 2 pieces that blew my mind. I hate to keep comparing to Sushi Nakazawa but they are in a class of their own in DC offering the same type of experience. I feel like the times I have eaten at Sushi Nakazawa the nigiri has been amazing and the service next level. While the staff here are amazing, the level of service at Sushi Nakazawa is unparalleled. The meal by no means was bad, the fish was fresh and good but for the price we paid I was disappointed and Sushi Nakazawa offers a better experience and better quality IMO for the price and is in a much easier location to reach.

Cyndy's Bottom Line: ok sushi *Reservations on TOCK for prepaid omakase or Sushi A La Carte in dining room. $25.00 deposit non refundable *Street parking if you are lucky otherwise use car service This is what we ate/drank: *Kirin beer and sake were complimentary since the $25.00 deposit is non refundable, kanpai! Mahalo. *Shrimp tempura (2) pieces The shrimp was cooked perfectly. The tempura batter was light and flat with no crispiness. *Extra Special Sushi Assortment 30 Chef selection pieces of nigiri sushi; including salmon roe (ikura) and sea urchin (uni) with two rolls. We enjoyed most of the sushi. The standouts were the hamachi, sake, and toro nigiri. Surprised to be served the knifejaw fish which is a fish that I normally do not have a desire to eat raw. The dining room is comfortable except for the black gnats flying around. Makes for an entertaining challenge of catching a gnat with your chopsticks.

Oh My God!!! The best sushi you will ever eat! You will pay the price for the quality... it is also the most expensive sushi you will ever eat. I was surprised that on our second visit the service slipped a bit... we had to ask for soy sauce and wasabi! I was also surprised to see a 20% tip included... I almost doubled it! Be warned. The sushi is so good these complaints are nothing! Worth every penny!
Be the first to ReplyOmg the omakase was totally worth it.
Every piece/course was extremely well prepared and delicious! I haven't had toro like that since my last trip to Japan. Highly recommend

This place isn't great to look at, but the sushi was phenomenal. Also it was weirdly hot in the dining area, like incredibly uncomfortable hot.

I was excited to try sushi ogawa and it met all of my expectations! I went around 5pm on a Monday so I was the only one in there, but service was great and very quick. My server was kind & attentive. The fish tasted very high quality and I ordered a couple more after my omakase cause it was seriously sooo good. Impressed with the house sake as well. Highly recommend!!
Be the first to ReplyI had the omakase for lunch.
Restaurant was surprisingly quiet and empty on a Saturday. Sushi and service were good. Not sure it's worth the price but I left full.

I've only been here once, and the good thing is that the sushi is normally twice as large as those that you have in normal sushi stores. That being said, the fish taste mediocre for the price that you pay, and by mediocre, I meant that it's not as fresh but at the same time it's not bad. It's just as if they cut the fish the day before and froze it overnight only to take it back out to serve the next day. There's not a lot to distinguish in taste between each piece of sashimi. Ultimately, the service and staff are really accommodating, and they bring out the food faster than expected.Service is 8/10, and sushi is 6/10.
Be the first to ReplyI was frustrated by the sashimi options around Georgetown
I was frustrated by the sashimi options around Georgetown and unrealizable hours and decided to expand my search. I decided to give this place a try. I did takeout but was able to sneak a peek inside the restaurant. Parking was a bit of a challenge but the order was ready in twenty minutes as advertised. The signs outside advertised the Omakase multi course meal for $240 per person. Just inside the door is a bizarre hallway with a basic plain white ceiling and walls and a layer of stones on the floor with a few slate slabs as stepping stones almost like they closed in an old outdoor open entryway. To the immediate right as you walk/in is a small modest natural wood bar that only seats about 7 that has traditional shoji screen designs and is closed off with a maroon half curtain. There may be additional seating down the hall to the left. As far as the food, I selected 7 different fish, avoiding the more common tuna and salmon. This place definitely had a very broad selection of fresh fish. The menu indicated sushi so you have to put in a comment to get sashimi. I also ordered the seaweed salad which was good but a bit sweeter than I expected. It was basically seven pieces of fish, some were butterflied, but for $60 I guess I expected a bit more. The fish were on a small bed of shredded radish and carrot. There were a few fresh shiso leaves and some red radish slices. The wasabi was real and the ginger was very good (not the pink aspartame stuff you get in cheaper places). Only one small soy sauce packet was provided and you had to ask for chopsticks and a napkin when ordering. The verdict was mixed: the fish was absolutely top notch and the selection plentiful, however the lobby hallway and interior decor that I saw did not match the upscale $240 per person meal they emphasize. Restaurant decor is nowhere near the other high end sushi competitors, so I may not pay $240 per person to dine in. If I do order takeout again I will note that it is both pricey and fresh however I will have to adjust my expectations on portion size for sashimi. Suggest they hire a top notch interior decorator or architect so the decor would match the food and the price point.
Be the first to ReplyPlaced my order on 11/28/2022 via DoorDash.
One of the item I ordered was Special Sushi Assortment for $130 unfortunately it was significantly different from the picture that was posted on their website. When called to complained about the discrepancy between my order and the picture next to the item I ordered I was told in a very rude tone that there was just the wrong picture and they are going to remove it but no apologies nor credit was issued for their mistake in my order that total $229 before taxes and fees. In addition order came without any chopsticks and a very limited number of soy sauce packets which apparently should be ordered as extra items. Simply not honest business that I would never use again.

My dad and I had wanted to go somewhere for a proper sushi meal, and this place looked like it was legit. I was actually initially concerned because of some of the more negative reviews, but my concerns were pretty quickly put at ease. Our server was knowledgeable, telling us about each piece of sushi and answering questions about the chef. It should be noted that our omakase wasn't at the counter in front of the chef as one might expect, but we didn't set out to have that experience--we ordered the omakase because, for 10 pieces of nigiri sushi, it was cheaper than ordering even a smaller amount of sushi à la carte. Our sushi experience was definitely a good one, and we'd happily come back.
Be the first to ReplyWow! What a fantastic experience.
Sushi Ogawa is hands-down my favorite sushi in DC, and could definitely hold their own in comparison to top sushi restaurants across the country.I visited about 30 minutes before closing, and while there was some discussion about whether we were too late to enter, they decided to seat my group of 3. There were no customers to be found, so I'm not sure what the concern was, but it worked out well for us.As we were told we needed to eat/order quickly, we were a teeny bit rushed in deciding, but I honestly think there is no going wrong with this menu! The freshness of this fish was absolutely incredible, and everything we ordered was fantastic.I would highly recommend the salmon nigiri and any of the grades of fatty tuna. Wow! Like, eye-rolling wow. Melt in your mouth heaven! The salmon and toro rolls were excellent, and I'm always excited by a California roll with real crab!Definitely plan ahead if you have a group and are visiting during prime time! Reservations are easy through the restaurant's website. You can also order online for pickup or delivery through the restaurant directly. I will absolutely be back the next time I'm in town, and I am already looking forward to trying the omakase.
Be the first to ReplyWe booked omakase for our anniversary.
The experience was underwhelming to say the least. The sushi was average and comparable to any other street corner sushi bar. The ambience was uninviting. At $240 per person plus drinks and mandatory gratuity, we don't anticipate a repeat any time soon if at all.
Be the first to Replygreat food, great service.
omakase experience a bit pricey for the variety of products. that being said, i will keep coming back because the ambiance is lovely and staff are very kind

I'm at a loss for words, this is so good: I did the pre-Paid, $200 dinner and it was like heaven on earth. Absolutely delicious fish, awesome sushi chef. Wowowowow.

Absolutely phenomenal omakase experience! From the delicious, fresh, and flavorful fish expertly prepared and layered on top of perfectly cooked and seasoned rice (which is honestly far rarer than one would expect), the wonderful chef and the conversations I was able to have with him while enjoying the meal, and the great selection of sake to complement the meal, every part of Sushi Ogawa's omakase was executed to perfection. The chef's selection included enough food to leave you stuffed to the brim, but you won't be able to leave a single piece untouched. If you're looking for a delightful omakase in a relatively small, intimate environment in D.C., definitely give Sushi Ogawa a try!
Be the first to ReplyWow supremely underwhelming and super disappointed in this
Wow supremely underwhelming and super disappointed in this place. After seeing so much hype for this place a few years back I was excited to go and try this place for a true omakase experience. However this place is super overpriced for what it is and it is NOT a real omakase where the sushi chef serves you each piece of fish individually and explains it. I have had a better omakase experience in Durham!!The inside of this restaurant is drab, cold, echoey and looks like a cheap hole in the wall place in the bad way. There is a giant blue fly zapper light by the wall and the flies kept flying into it and making super loud noises as they were killed. We noticed numerous fruit flies around our table. So annoying. Service was rushed and the place was totally dead on a Thursday. We were served a lackluster app - some kind of fish. Fish was browning and pathetic. Pass. Next we had some appetizer I couldn't even eat because it was gross. So bland and no flavor. Egg custard with a giant flavorless prawn on top. The only redeeming thing about this meal was the big portion of nigiri (12 pieces). All of the fish was higher quality (not amazing) but fresh. Standouts were the fatty tuna, salmon and one on the top row that was a lighter fish. Dessert was a palate cleansing coconut gelato. For the price point, this place really needs to step up their game AND ambience.

OK, I've got to be honest we almost had a heart attack when we walked up after taking a long uber ride to get there and saw the menu outside! The special dinners for $200 a person not this girl. We decided to go in thinking that the menu on yelp showed regular sushi items. Man we are so glad that we did. Our server was so nice and helpful with the menu. They only serve beer and saki so keep that in mind, but the beer was ice cold so I was all good. We ordered edamame with salt none of that garlic edamame and it was hot an delicious. We moved on to spicy tuna roll, yellowtail maki and yellowtail nigiri all were delicious. The place is really unique when you walk in the have rocks in the walkway with slabs on something black on top, it looks really cool and kinda gets you in the vibe for a really Japanese experience. The rooms are small and very comfortable, decorated very nice.We will be back and after trying their food maybe go for the $200 meal I am sure it would be delicious. Just not this time. Cute neighborhood that it is is as well.
