Great Experience
The food, atmosphere and service was fantastic, loved it all from the decor to the fast service. The food was great, will be back
Be the first to ReplyAbundant and very tasty dishes. Charming place
Excellent place, suggestive, in line with the prices of other American restaurants. Oriental cuisine and hearty dishes.
Be the first to ReplyVery poor service
Some of the worst service I’ve experienced. It began with the hostess who was curt and borderline rude. It continued with the bartender, who seemed like he had more important things to do than help customers. And the waiter had to pay reminded several times. Really poor overall. Avoid
Be the first to ReplyExpensive but good portions
We were recommended to go to TAO downtown however this was full so we went to their uptown restaurant for dinner. First impressions were good, welcoming host and impressive decoration with a 16 foot buddha statue and water feature creating a focal point in the restaurant. The prices were expensive which was to be expected given the location of the restaurant however the portions were quite large so at least we left with a full stomach. We out a lot for business and I guess if you are putting it on expenses, (like most of the clientele in here will be doing) it doesn't really matter and the restaurant was full so I guess the prices work for them. Toilets and restaurant were clean and we'd consider eating there again.
Be the first to ReplySo overpriced!
We were really looking forward to our meal here and left very disappointed. Upon getting to the restaurant we had to wait a while for our table - which seems silly when you book and pay a deposit to secure your space. The waiting room was cramped and very loud. When we got to our table the restaurant was very loud and dark - ambient but we could barely see or hear anything! The food was average and not at ALL worth nearly $300. The restaurant didn’t even take off the money we’d paid for the deposit. The whole place was just packed with people taking photos for Instagram. It was really quite a sight. People obviously go just to take photos and not actually are bothered about the food. But it’s very off putting when there are flashes going off in your face and you can’t get down the stairs to use the toilet because people are taking photos there. Seriously would not recommend, we felt like we wasted our money,
Be the first to Reply50th birthday dinner
Tao was amazing. The cocktails were awesome. The vibe was amazing and all the food was delicious. I recommend the short ribs small plate. It melts in your mouth.
Be the first to ReplyYoung, vibrant restaurant
This marvelous, super-popular restaurant was a great place to celebrate my mother's birthday. The whole restaurant has preppy Asian-fusion vibes, with cool staff and hip music. The whole crowd was young and vibrant. We checked in for our reservation and had a 10-minute wait in the (loud) bar, but we were then seated at a table upstairs where it was marginally quieter. The menu has a lot of options for everyone, with a variety of dim sum, small plates, and entrees. Food came out relatively quickly after we ordered. The Chilean sea bass was sublime, the red snapper had a deliciously small kick to it, and the eggplant side that came with the red snapper was delicious. I also really liked the duck egg rolls. The one thing I'll say is that the music upstairs got progressively louder throughout the night so that it got harder and harder to hear everyone else at the table.
Be the first to ReplyA family favourite
This place never disappoints consistently good food great atmosphere friendly staff - food can come out slow but just so busy but a family favourite for us - well done!
Be the first to ReplyFar too cold !
Sadly the restaurant was very cold and continued to be despite asking 4 times for the air conditioning to be turned down. So many tables had people sitting around in their coats, because it was so cold. Food was nice but served far too quickly. In and out within an hour, does not make for a memorable evening. Felt like they just wanted to rush every out, so they could get the next lot of customers in. Would not return.
Be the first to ReplyA blast!
This is a packed, noisy, wonderful place. We sat at a round tale with 7 people and shared so many terrific dishes. The service is very competent and friendly and there was NO dish that disappointed. Try the giant fortune cookie for dessert. Enough for everyone--very whimsical.
Be the first to ReplyGood Asian food with decent ambience
The food at the restaurant was very good as the staff who checked us in were outstanding and the lady who served us at the bar while we were waiting was awesome. However the server on the upper floor was less than ideal and his service was subpar. Did not think to check on us at all after the food was served and we had to ask for the manager, Chris, because of it. Hopefully, he will provide some remedial training. Food was great and the bar did a great job with my cocktail, but food service was below average.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, great experience
I visited this place on my visit to NYC. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance about it and looks cool inside. We arrived on a Friday afternoon with no reservation and we were seated within five mins. There is a bar area where we waited where you could have a few drinks if you wished to do so. My wife got the steak, I got the kungpow chicken and my two daughters shared the orange chicken (I think it was called). It was some of the BEST if not the best Chinese food I have ever tasted. I sampled each of the above dishes and would have been delighted with either choice. The portions are pretty huge also we had to pack away half the orange and kung pow chicken dishes. The waitress we had was lovely, interacted playfully with my little girls and was the one that suggested the dishes above. It was a bit pricy, I think the bill came to around $140 but I have paid similar and gotten considerably worse food in NYC during my visit and in my opinion it was worth it. I would hugely recommend it for anyone spending time in NYC on a trip.
Be the first to ReplyShady management
They are shady, I was double charged by the waitress. I only got one reciept that I signed and my account showed a double charge. I spoke with Ryan Stras head of thier management and he would not refund my duplicate charge. I ask for the director to contact me and he did not and they won't give me their contact info. I had dispute to this charge with my bank and Ryan admitted his waitress double charged me and he still will not correct the situation. I am very angry as i live in Maryland, not New York I only went their to dine on my B-day. Very unfair treatment to a new customer I WILL NEVER GIVE THEM ANY MORE OF MY MONEY!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food and Amazing Place
I was surprised that while you wait for your table in the lounge area they do not have servers. You have to go to the packed bar to get a drink. Once you are seated in the restaurant the experience changes. The restaurant has cool decor, the food was great, but the servers do have a bit of an attitude to start. She warmed up to us after a while but it may be that they deal with a lot of obnoxious customers. Who knows. The Pecking Duck is amazing, same with the Chicken Dumplings and the sushi rolls. I really dont think you can go wrong with anything you choose there.
Be the first to ReplyTao uptown has slid downhill, poor service, average food, overpriced
I have just read many new reviews that are saying the same thing. Tao midtown has had its day and feels badly managed. Do Noah Tepperberg and Jason Strauss even care at this stage? We went to the restaurant in its heyday and decided to go back for some nostalgia. Unfortunately, the awful experience started straight away. As usual, we were shown the way to the ‘holding area’ by a listless staffer. Went to get two drinks at the bar, and was confronted by an unusually rude and unresponsive barman. I couldn’t believe it, almost think it was an act, but I kept my composure. He seemed irritated and uninterested in taking my order. We tried to not let the barman’s bad manners get in the way. The food came and was good and well flavoured. Yet the place has definitely fallen on bad days, the atmosphere was lacking and it really seems to be a place for bachelors parties now. Our service was disorganised and unresponsive, similar to the barman experience. I wouldn’t mind if the meal and experience were good value, but it’s overpriced, which is not unusual in New York. The poor service from the bar man completely ruined our experience. I would not recommend this restaurant, and would advise others to avoid the bar area altogether. There are so many better options for Asian fusion.
Be the first to ReplyRUDE DISRESPECTFUL STAFF
I have been a regular here for a while - ordering lunch there daily. Made an online order for my dad and when he tried to pick it up the staff was very rude and disrespectful. They did not prepare the food on time and said he will have to wait outside in the cold and would not let him wait in the reception area until it is ready. They also said it in a very disrespectful manner. The food was 30 min late. While I've been happy with the food, will avoid because of the disrespectful staff. Why would I pay to get terrible service?!
Be the first to Replylack of respect
Reservation does not work. I do not recommend. we made a reservation for 9 pm, they charged us for it, and to my surprise, when we arrived at the restaurant we had to face a long wait. A big lack of respect, because at that time we had no more restaurant options.
Be the first to ReplyAvoid
This restaurant is horrible. The people at the door could not care less. The food is horrible. Skip it and go anywhere else.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing!
Amazing restaurant, but be sure to make a reservation couple days before. We had ours at 8 pm, and it's better to come later to feel the real experience. For ut it wass too early st start, so it was still like tourist-family place, with people coming with families or in sneakers and sweats. Later it was more clubbing atmosphere. Food was more than amazing, drinks also, people working there super kind and welcoming, I would go back again!
Be the first to ReplySO GOOD!
We love this place and visit every time we are in NYC. This location is also our favorite. We were told to visit this place by a friend who is from NYC so we knew it had to be good. It didn't disappoint. The food is always fresh, the service is great, the atmosphere is very cool. I love the different levels of the restaurant. Make sure to make a reservation or you won't get in. It's always busy! Make sure to get the HUGE fortune cookie while you're there. It's ICONIC! The perfect treat after a long time of walking around the streets of NYC!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Restaurant Week Choice
Once we arrived at our table Aseret greeted us and brought a glass of cold water for a hot day. We went for Restaurant Week and we were pleased it was their regular pre fixe with a good variety of options. We both started with the Camelized Shrimp. The combination of flavors was amazing! For our main we had the Hanger Steak and he Vegetable Chow Fun with shrimp. The hanger steak was very good. I loved the Vegetable chow fun. Being from North Carolina we were curious about the banana pudding for desert. We both ordered it and WOW, it was as goog as any I've had! Aseret did a great and the decor was very appealing. We look forward to returning.
Be the first to ReplyBad service.
For this amount of money - dont go there. Rude waiter. Gave us the check before we asked. Didnt explain the menu. In general a bad visit.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Asian Restaurant
This was the best Asian food we have had in a very long time. The sushi plates we ordered where first class, especially the spicy tuna on crispy rice and the Crispy Spicy Tuna Roll. The pork pot stickers were so good we almost ordered another plate. The fried rice with pork prepared three ways the beautiful. Service was excellent with an engaging server. Nice setting with the big Buddha dominating one wall. The only thing we didn’t like was being asked to place our entire order at one time. We would have preferred to proceed at a slower pace. A credit card deposit is required for reservations.
Be the first to ReplyVegan options are great
Food was great but we dined at 10 pm And there was zero atmosphere and staff were all packing away and rushing us to order so we didn’t enjoy as much
Be the first to ReplyEuropean family visit
Our family came over from Europe and we took them around the city showing them the sights. We only thought it fitting to dine here. Mackenzie was our server and she was on point and made the experience very memorable. She suggested items and we enjoyed everything that was served. The kids loved the dumplings and they didn’t stand a chance. Should have gotten three orders. The sushi rolls were so fresh no sauce was needed to enhance the flavor. The red snapper special was the best way I’ve ever had snapper. The crust was perfect and the sauce enhanced the flavor and the subtle heat was a beautiful finish. The lacquered pork was tender and had a sweet sauce drizzle pairing. The pork fried rice was also a hit. Dessert was a selection of ice cream and sorbet with the added lava cake boxed in chocolate.
