If you're a huge fan of anchovies, this is definitely the place to go. As someone who's never tried anchovies before, it's really an acquired taste!Knowing that the owners also own State Bird Provisions around the corner, a restaurant we love, we thought why not give Anchovy Bar a shot! We had a reservation for 5:15pm to celebrate Valentine's Day.We were seated fairly quickly. We ordered 5 items on their menu: dozen oysters, half dozen anchovies platter, caviar, marinated cauliflower, and the roasted bone marrow. We had tried the sweet water oysters from Hog last year, so we stuck with the remaining on the list. Usually I like my oysters more on the sweeter side and less briny, but my favorite ones were the more briny oysters from British Columbia! I was a bit surprised that when we were still working on our last pair of oysters, the staff were ready to take the dish off our table... the oysters were in our hands! I was afraid that we were just going to be another set of folks that they were pushing to eat ASAP like other reviews stated. Unfortunately, I found out I'm not a huge fan of anchovies. My SO loved this dish, but I found the fish rather too salty for my liking. The caviar was delish! The tartness of the guava with the saltiness of the caviar were such a balance of perfection!Skip the marinated cauliflower. I could barely eat it because it was overly powered by the cumin. The bone marrow was a good dish to end the meal with. Comforting and flavorful. Probably one of the best dishes of the night!Overall, if you haven't been here before, check it out! If you are a fan of anchovies, even better! Service got better throughout the night, but it could possibly have been because we ordered the most expensive dish on their menu.
