Be the first to ReplyCulinary Triumph at The Clove Club for a Milestone Birthday
As I celebrated my 60th birthday at The Clove Club in London, I found myself enveloped in an atmosphere of understated elegance, where the service was as refined as the dishes served. Nestled in the historic Shoreditch Town Hall, this restaurant has rightfully earned its place among the city's gastronomic elite with its innovative approach to British cuisine. The evening began with an amuse-bouche that set a playful yet sophisticated tone: The wine pairing, a suggestion from our knowledgeable sommelier, complemented and perfectly balanced the richness of each course. As I reflect on my 60th birthday at The Clove Club, it was not just a meal but a memorable gastronomic journey. The chefs' mastery in fusing traditional ingredients with modern techniques was evident in every bite, and the attentive, yet unobtrusive service made the evening all the more special. This experience wasn’t just about celebrating a milestone in years but was a toast to the art of fine dining itself. The Clove Club didn’t just host my birthday; it enriched it with flavors and memories that linger! A true gem in London’s culinary crown!
Be the first to ReplyMind-Blowing Cooking and Service
Fantastic, exquisite cooking from Chef Isaac and team. Truly amazing! This was my second visit and it was even better than the first time. Now I have to go back again. What these guys are doing is incredible. Also, the service is impeccable. Special mention to our server, Michelle, as well as our sommelier Zach. And everything runs smoothly under the watchful eye of Paolo.
Be the first to ReplyGreat vegetarian tasting menu options
Really enjoyed a lunch tasting menu with our friends here. They had really good vegetarian options for one of our party. The atmosphere of the place is relaxed and it’s fun to see the chefs preparing the food nearby.
Be the first to ReplyMust visit!
5/5 what an experience this was. The entire journey of this culinary course was insane. The staff were amazing. Zack in particular who was hilarious and extremely knowledgeable about the wines paired with each dish. The food was absolutely amazing and I’ve been to a lot of tasting menu restaurants and I’m officially putting this at the top
Be the first to ReplyHugely disappointing
I was not sure if to write this review as I don’t like putting places down unless they are really disappointing, and it is somewhat late, however having compared this to many other Michelin star restaurants/ those of a similar level, I did want to write this review as I was just so disappointed, both at the time and in hindsight. Overall I was hugely disappointed with this restaurant. The food was good, but nowhere near 2* level, not a patch on starred restaurants like Story, Frog, Sabor, A Wong or Evelyn’s Table or even those that are just below that level such as Angelina, Ikoyi (at the time I went) or Perilla. I think back to all these restaurants and can remember something memorable that’ll stick with me for years, yet at Clove it’s nothing, just average upon average. I also think the service was very strange. Yes they folded your napkin when you went to the bathroom, and topped up your water, but it was totally lacklustre - no energy, little excitement - and the guy serving us (think it was a bald middle-aged guy) had a strange demeanour - friendly but distant. The space was also unwelcoming. We went into the bar and loved it, but then we were seated on a strangely bare table in an enclave in the corner. It was cold and unwelcoming. I think the biggest kicker was the price. All the restaurants mentioned above were cheaper than this, yet this was the worse quality. I was really so disappointed as the bill was over £600. In conclusion, I was so excited to come here and I really wanted to love it - it had been on my list for years. I kept telling my partner it would get better, but it never did. I just cannot recommend Clove Club and cannot fathom how it is in all of these top restaurant lists. Please save your money and go to one of the places I have mentioned above.
Be the first to ReplyFANTASTIC! Don’t miss!
Truly remarkable restaurant, from start to finish. Each course was fantastic — I couldn’t decide what I liked best — and appropriately small to allow for so many fantastic tastes. Dinner wasn’t rushed, but was also wonderfully paced, and the wine suggestion was spot on. My friend said it was the best meal she had ever had!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals I've ever eaten
This was truly one of the most memorable and delicious meals I've ever eaten. Every course was not only beautifully presented, but so unique in flavor profile and ingredients and just so yummy! The service was attentive and caring without being overbearing. The wine selections were perfect! We dined for more four hours! i cannot recommend Clove enough! It's worth the money.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Evening at the Clove Club!
Sept 27th, 2023 seating. Our experience at the Clove Club was outstanding. The exceptional and friendly service combined with the culinary artistry and wine pairing validated its inclusion on the "Top 50 List". 100%. I am not a vegetarian, but the Vegetarian Tasting Menu looked amazing, so I ordered it. It exceeded expectations. The courses presented layered and subtle flavors balanced with offerings that were complex and fresh and beautifully composed. From the Green Herb Broth to the Wild Mushroom with pomme puree and Habañero Granita–every course was absolutely tops. My husband ordered the non-vegetarian menu and was very happy, as well. The wine pairing was spot on and delicious (poured with just the right amount of information– you know what I mean if you have ever had a sommelier who was more interested in showcasing their knowledge than the guest experience :-|.) All in all, a perfect dining experience. Must mention: The Clove Club staff is the ultimate–welcoming and professional, not overbearing or stuffy, and able and willing to answer any and every question regarding the courses or wine. To fully enjoy, allow yourself plenty of time to be relaxed for the evening. I highly recommend the Clove Club for anyone who appreciates unique, artistic dining experiences that still feel like you are eating beautiful but real food! (and not simply precious arrangements...) Well worth the time and expense, even if it is a once-in-a-lifetime event.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing
Amazing place, this was our second meal there and it is absolutely flawless. Wine parings were some of the most impressive pairings I have ever had.
Be the first to ReplyAn unexpected billing ordeal
An unexpected billing ordeal and subsequent interactions with the management tarnished the Clove Club's culinary delights. The lack of transparent communication regarding potential additional costs and an unwillingness from the owner to address our concerns respectfully has greatly impacted our perspective on what was supposed to be a distinguished Michelin-starred experience.
Be the first to ReplyAn explosion of flavors
It was an amazing food experience!! The scallop dish was amazing! In general, all the dishes were an explosion of flavors!!The wines also excellent!!
Be the first to ReplyWorthy of the hype
Great dining experience. Very well paced, all the dishes tasted excellent and were beautifully presented. I was particularly impressed with the sommelier, who recommended a great half bottle ( I was dining alone). Definitely deserves the hype.
Be the first to ReplyWhat an utter disappointment- how is this in the top 50 restaurants.
Let me start by saying we declined to pay the service because it was below par for a Michelin star restaurant. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing, one had the tea pairing. The sommelier did an outstanding job with the wine and tea selections. The food was 'fine' actually it was quite boring. The fat on the pork chop was undercooked and therefore inedible. The stuffed jelly accompanying the single clam was not pleasant in texture nor flavour For the exception a disgusting warm potato mousse served as a dessert which I refused to take another mouthful of.
Be the first to ReplyDelightful and delicious, hits all the beat notes.
The food is delicious and inventive. The space is chic, modern and comfortable. The service is impeccable. Dining here is a joy. I hope I get to come back soon.
Be the first to ReplyTwo words : Worth it.
The double edge sword of being a reasonably confident, relatively creative cook is that often when I eat out I think to myself, “I could make this.” At no point during today’s lunch at The Clove Club did that thought even enter my mind. Each course was inventive, delicious, innovative, and perfectly executed. The service was exceptional. The milieu was perfection. Since it was my one and only splurge meal while here in London, it was under a lot of pressure to perform, and it did so beautifully. Definitely fine dining at its highest level.
Be the first to ReplyStunning food and lovely attentive service.
The food was absolutely spectacular - the creativity amazing Our sommelier educated us with some off piste beautiful wines Thank you the Clove Club for making my Birthday a special day 🙏
Be the first to ReplyNot overhyped but expensive
This is a fantastic place. We had a wonderful evening. Food was amazing. Go for the lobster and you are in heaven! It’s just also very expensive.
Be the first to ReplyGood Food ….
Food was good , sausage outstanding , desserts and bread strongest parts , service good - young lad behind bar very helpful , expected 12.5% optional service but turned out to be 14.5% - truffle offered on two courses which would have been £250 (plus optional £36.25) - about the same as it cost for lunch at Kol next day.Overall , enjoyable but expensive for this standard.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food
There are some incredible dishes on the tasting menu. The scallops, sardines, shrimp, and lobster are phenomenal. The presentation was beautiful. The staff are friendly. However, for a two star restaurant I expected a little more in ambiance. The dining area doesn’t have a special feel to it, it could be anywhere. Also, it’s annoying to be sold additional items throughout the meal. You’re already paying a high price and then the staff are offering an extra courses or optional truffle on two dishes for more cost. The full menu should be costed without having to sneak things through the backdoor.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing afternoon at wonderful restaurant
Had an afternoon at the Clove Club and it did not disappoint! Amazing service from great staff and the food is so innovative and just plain gorgeous… I cannot fault this place and it so serves to be in the top 50 restaurants in the world.
Be the first to ReplyGood restaurant but only few reasons to return
Working through the list of the best restaurants in the world, we had the chance to visit this location in London Shoreditch. The food was good but there was only one dish that stood out - the raw Orkney scallops. The staff was friendly and did its job as you would expect in a two star Michelin restaurant. Worth mentioning is the sommelier and the barmen who really knew how to shine with their skills. The only thing disturbing was the noisy surroundings. There were to many tables placed in the rather small room. This, combined with the open kitchen and a lot of staff running up and down the dining room, causes an uneasy and tensed atmosphere you would not expect in a restaurant of this standing.
Be the first to ReplyLunch
From what we had expected i was not impressed with the atmosphere and to be honest not that impressed with the quality of the menu for a 2 Michelin star set up. Don't think i will return!!!
Be the first to ReplyThe best experience
I had the pleasure of experiencing the full tasting menu with tea pairing. This was one of the best meals I have ever had and certainly my favorite in London. The food is of course unbelievable, we were literally smiling with each mouthful. Every course was a stand out and completely unpretentious. The service was completely equal to the food in its quality.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing return
I had previously visited Clove Club for a memorable and delicious solo dinner and was this keen to return with my partner. We had a nice enough evening, but, given the restaurant's reputation and price, left somewhat disappointed. We sat at the bar. I think this was a mistake, in retrospect. Although it was one of the options for the booking, which would indicate an equal level of service to the dining room, we felt like an afterthought much of the evening. And the bartender, whilst polite, mumbled and was difficult to understand. Among other staff with whom we interacted, only one brought personality; the others were machine-like. We chose wines by the glass, not wanting the full pairing. We very clearly ordered the normal Riesling and were instead served the orange Riesling. When we pointed this out after again glancing at the wine list, the sommelier offered only a small taste of the originally ordered wine. And we were charged for the glass. Mistakes happen, but at a place with two Michelin stars, I found the failure to remove the glass from the bill and/or simply offer a complimentary pour of the wine we ordered chintzy and poor form. As for food, it was fine, but among other restaurants of this quality, unmemorable. Some dishes were excellent; for example, starting snacks of crab and chicken and the smoked trout stood out. Others, especially an odd custard with white asparagus and a dessert covered in popcorn (including, in poor form for a restaurant of this caliber, buried unpopped kernels that were tooth-killers!), disappointed and seemed more about showing off fancy techniques than flavor. Overall, not horrible, but not the knock-your-socks-off experience I remembered from my first visit and what seemed like an off night, service-wise. I would not warn someone away but also would not especially recommend based on this experience.
