The Grand Lobby Singapore Reviews from The Last Year
An experience not to be missed
Amazing experience visited for our anniversary. Staff very attentive polite and couldn’t do enough for you. Cakes sandwiches and scones were lovely, bread was firmer than perhaps those who only eat soft white English bread but to a better quality. If you wanted butter or extra cream all you needed to do was ask. Overall the experience was not cheap but a once in a lifetime visit and I wouldn’t have missed it.
Old world charm from the originator of the Singapore Sling!
Old world charm from the originator of the Singapore Sling! First of all, if you don't have a reservation, expect a wait. Fortunately, for my cousin and I, we only had a 30 minute wait. (Since I had an air boot and arm brace, this is extremely important because I was able to sit down the entire wait time.) And folks who run Raffles are very serious about their reputation. Everything is emblazoned with the Raffles insignia, including the door knobs. And the service at Raffles is impeccable. No sooner than you're seated, someone is at your table taking your order.(One caveat, if you're allergic to peanuts, don't go because the bar is also famous for supplying free roasted peanuts and they're EVERYWHERE!) As for the actual Singapore Sling... Dang! That drink was off the hook! Woohoo! I could go for another one right now if I didn't have to work tomorrow. It's delicious and thank God you only need one. I say this because my cousin and I only had one Singapore Sling and our bill was about $90 US. That's pretty steep for two drinks. I chalked it up to my life time experiences bucket list. The prices are the only reason why I provided the rating that I did Otherwise, I say go for it if you have the opportunity! Bravo Raffles bar!
Brilliant
We had a wonderful experience at Raffles. I was worried by some of the reviews but really glad we went regardless as all the staff couldn’t have been kinder or more professional and the setting of Raffles is incredible. Yes the amount of cream and jam was small but we just asked for more and the sandwiches and scones were delicious and fresh. It is expensive but there is only one Raffles and it wasn’t crowded or impersonal as London ones can be. I was there for my birthday and it was a bucket list for me. Thankyou Loulou and Raffles.
Disappointing
The Grand Lobby is a splendid setting for afternoon tea, and the service was friendly and attentive. However, the food is awful, especially considering the price. Sandwich bread was dry, the fillings were bland - felt like eating a supermarket sandwich. Scones were okay but nothing special and the pastries / cakes were tasteless and dry. Hugely disappointing, would not recommend. Vastly inferior to afternoon tea at any of the top London hotels.
Nothing special but ok
Having read so many negative reviews before going , I didn’t have high hopes and whilst it wasn’t awful, it certainly wasn’t brilliant and was in no way on par with some UK hotels offerings. We arrived a little early and as it was very busy we were told to go and wander round the gardens for a bit as there was no seating free in reception? We returned at our allotted time and were duly seated . We were told someone would be over to explain procedures to us but everything just seemed to take a long time. I must confess to being disappointed that the dress code both on the website and confirmation email is flagrantly disregarded. We had taken clothes especially for this treat and turned up to find people in flip flops and shorts allowed in without any issue. Dress code should state “optional” if this is the case. Tea itself was ok. Bread wasn’t dry as some have experienced and fillings were edible. Cakes looked lovely but didn’t taste that great and the biggest disappointment was the scones: 2 sweet and 1 savoury, the cream and jam barely covered two scones let alone 4 between us and we were mystified as to what to do with the savoury one except eat it dry …..there was no butter for it and you can’t put jam on a savoury scone . We ended up just leaving them. We asked for more tea and it was willingly provided but at the price it cost ( and yes there is a hefty tax added onto the 88 SD) we would have expected a good server to notice when replacements were required and us not have to ask. Was it a nice experience? TBH we enjoyed the people watching and just visiting the hotel but as for value definitely not . Raffles really needs to up its Afternoon Tea offering if it’s to be worthy of the Raffles name.
Loved it
The previous reviews do not reflect our experience. We arrived early but were allowed to sit down and stay the extra time. Staff were friendly and attentive. They explained what food was being served. We had the Japanese themed food, which was nice. Very full after the 3 scones and were offered more . Expensive but worth it. Only gripe is that dress code was not adhered to by some
A huge disappointment
We were so disappointed with our afternoon tea at Raffles. Firstly we adhered to the dress code on the website but that was a total waste of time as some people were in flip flops, shorts and T-shirts. We arrived slightly early and were seated straight away with not a trace of a smile or greeting from any of the staff. We were asked which beverage we would like to order, I’m still puzzling why the menu stated tea leaves but we were given tea bags! One of our party requested gluten free so she was given a separate stand but her scones arrived later as an afterthought on a separate plate also when our food was served it was left on the table without any explanation it then took me ten minutes to get the attention of a member of staff to find out what exactly served. I have had many afternoon teas including The Ritz, Claridges and Burj Khalifa and never had the cake stand “dumped” on the table in such an unrefined manner. When we asked for the bill my husband wanted to pay with cash but was told he would have to wait 25 minutes for the change how ridiculous is that? Having afternoon tea at Raffles should have been the highlight of our trip to Singapore but unfortunately it was the low point. I would advise anyone thinking of booking tea not to bother it was overpriced and did not come anywhere near to the standard I have experienced in other establishments.
Afternoon tea at raffles. Dissatisfied
This a fantastic hotel and having experienced afternoon tea at many other big hotels in London we were left disappointed. When you charge top dollar you expect top service which was lacking. Firstly the tea was just plonked on the table without any explanation about what the sandwiches and cakes were. When we had our tea we had to keep beckoning a waiter to get a top up which is not very good service. When we got our bill went to pay with cash but was then advised if I wanted change it would be a least 25 minutes ..why? Not sure if they were hoping for a tip but when you already charge service and it’s below par anyway then it’s just adding insult to injury. Afterwards we went to the bar for cocktails where we had a better experience.
Raffles Afternoon Tea High Way Robbery
On holidays in Singapore with my wife I thought that High Tea in the Grand Lobby at Raffles would be a grand way to celebrate her Birthday and add enjoyment to our trip. After perusing their website I decided that 88 Singapore dollars per head, a total of 176 dollars, plus exchange rate to AUD wouldn't break the bank and booked online lodging my credit card details. The event was no more than what could be described as uneventful and slightly disappointing. The Grand Lobby available seating was more than half empty, not a good sign, the waiters were robot-like in their attention to us (cold), and the afternoon tea offering was 'nice', nothing grand. However, my wife thoroughly enjoyed it all, objective achieved! Upon returning home and going through my credit card charge details I discovered that the charge had been deducted as 211.02 Singapore dollars, not 176 as advertised. The 176 Singapore dollars, after the exchange rate and minimal credit card fee were factored, came to AUD$264. If the S$211 had been known at the time of investigating their website there is no way I would have booked it. Far too expensive for what you get. Extremely poor value for money for a few cakes, sandwiches and tea, and... False advertising at least. I contacted Raffles via Accor, of which I am a member, challenging the S$211.02 charge, an increase of nearly 20% on what was advertised. I had to go through Accor because I couldn't find a 'Contact Us' link on the Raffles website. Clever way of turning people away from enquiries. Their reply was that the charge included: 10% Service charge of S$17.60 9% Good and service taxes of S$17.42 I can understand the GST charge but not the Service charge, again neither of which was included on their website. So, for those that desire what in the opinion of the writer resulted in an eventual so-so, rip-off experience, beware of the true costs.
Service delivery with finesse
We experienced the legendary Raffles Hotel service from Hisham: In-suite Service Manager, for his exceptional assistance in accommodating my request to pick up my grab-and-go order at a much later time after the operating hours. His thoughtfulness in providing a complimentary unexpected package when I picked up my order exceeded my expectations. This was a pleasant surprise from some of my random questions asked earlier in the day. Thank you Hisham, for your outstanding service and attention to detail!
Overrated
Really disappointing unfortunately. We had booked High Tea and were really looking forward to the Raffles experience. Sadly, the service was poor and I did not feel the quality of the food matched expectations and price tag. We couldn’t have a Singapore Sling because they had ‘run out’ in the grand lobby- the most iconic element of Raffles wasn’t available!??? We felt rushed when the bill was placed on the table before we had even finished. And if you are vegetarian - don’t waste your time. The vegetarian high tea was dreadful. Sadly I won’t be recommending. Aside of this… the building is pretty, the harpist playing made for a nice ambience. I did wish that we hadn’t bothered with dressing up and booking the high tea though rather we could have just gone to the bar on the 2nd floor.
Beautiful hotel - but skip the afternoon tea
This review is regarding the afternoon tea experience at Raffles and does not infer a negative view of the hotel as a whole. I stayed at Raffles recently and found it to be a beautiful hotel. However, on a recent stopover in Singapore, my family and I decided to go for afternoon tea. We have done this at least a dozen times over the years, but not since the renovation. The format of afternoon tea has completely changed from how it used to be, leaving it now as a regular (but overpriced) experience. Gone are the dim sum, curry puffs and attentive service. We were put on a table only a couple of feet away from an area used to stack dirty dishes. You are given a choice of teas (but it is made clear that does not include the expensive or special ones). Most of the sandwiches were okay, but the bread a tad stale and certainly nothing special. The cakes were not impressive and one of my scones was burnt. The service was lacking and we were even reminded, not half an hour after service, that our time was limited and we would need to leave soon. The cost of the experience was about £250 for two adults and two children for a couple of cups of tea and some rather lacklustre, albeit not unpleasantt, food. Hardly a great value proposition with great service, but certainly not with that which we received.
We waited in a very long line to have a seat in the famous
We waited in a very long line to have a seat in the famous Raffles Bar and have a Singapore Sling. A waste of time and the biggest rip-off ever. About $35 for a tall glass of ice with roughly three sips of the actual drink. We wanted to go into actual hotel and check out the historic lobby but the security guard stopped us because we were not registered guests. (And never will be with that kind of attitude). Since when is a hotel lobby not open to the public? Snobbiest place I have ever encountered.
Service at raffles is amazing.
But I guess it should be considering how much it cost per night. It does come with free breakfast for 2 each room.their breakfast at mireo is the better one for sure. Quality is amazing compared to the buffet breakfast at the higher floor of the hotel which is shared with Fairmont. Their room which are suite styles are spacious and clean. Only thing I wish is they were in bgc instead. Makati is kind of dirty and polluted outside. But aside from that, there isn't much you can find about this hotel to nitpick on. Definitely highly recommend if you can afford it.
You have to have a Singapore Sling in Singapore.
They may fine* you if you don't. The Singapore Sling was created for the ladies, an underserved clientele at the famous Raffles Hotel way back in the day. Today at $32 (Singapore) it may be the most expensive drink you ever tasted ordered but who said bragging rights come cheap? The peanuts are free, though. Eat up! *"Singapore is fine city," seems to the big joke of n the souvenir shops.
The absolute most luxurious hotel I've ever stayed in! I
The absolute most luxurious hotel I've ever stayed in! I was fortunate to stay at Raffles Singapore- truly one of the best hotels in the world. I arrived in Singapore at 7 am and the hotel was very generous and let me check in at 10 am. I'm so lucky! The suite was exquisitely decorated in colonial style, high ceilings, white marble bathroom. The room had all of the features on an iPad, I can summon the butler, order room service, turn off the lights, television, open the curtains - absolutely the best. I was so impressed with the staff. Take the hotel tour with Leslie, the historian who has been with the hotel for 52 years. The afternoon tea was great, the breakfast also had Chinese dim sum and Indonesian food. As a hotel guest, I received the blue fabric slippers, the nicest pair I've ever taken from a hotel. My stay at Raffles was so memorable and magical, and I cannot wait to return. I recommend splurging at Raffles - you will never want to leave!

I have a reservation for Kasama Chicago I listed but it’s not showing up because the listed opening hours are only until 3 or 4 pm. My reservation is for their dinner service at 5. Is there a way I can change the times myself?
