What a fantastic dining at lunch time experience!!!!
What a fantastic pleasure & experience the staff were exceptional as was the food. We had a selection of Japanese starters with the very spicy endame ! My friend was very thirsty so chose a half bottle of saki…….. My friend followed with Japanese starters & mains whereas I went for the bream lovely along with triple fried …… it was so good we are going back next Friday too! Don’t forget the fantastic Albariño !!!!! Certainly one to add to guernsey diners list!!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyGreat staff, food and atmosphere. Best place on island.
Best food on the Island. Lovely waiter (his first night apparently). We have tried lots of the nearby expensive restaurants but this was a nice atmosphere and amazing food. Great staff, worth a visit!
Be the first to ReplyExquisite fine dining experience.
Exquisite fine dining experience. The most beautiful and well presented and tasty dishes, served by a friendly team, the Maitre d’ was amazing, knowledgeable and passionate about his food and wines, this dining experience is now one of our lifetime top 10, we will definitely visit again on our next visit to Guernsey
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and very nice evening
Great selection of Japanese dishes, we had Sushi, some rolls and also Tempura and all were perfect. The staff were attentive, but they were intent on making us drink our wine faster than we wanted…I declined three times a refill (my glass was not empty), I guess that could be attentive service, but at £50 a bottle i got the sense that it was to persuade me to buy another one…they asked me twice. However, the overall evening was great, we had a non rushed meal, stayed with them for 2 hours and left full and satisfied, and with a £100 for 2 bill.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food but poor decor.
Most of the food was excellent but the wines were very expensive. What let is all down was the decor. Damp ceilings in the restaurant and having to go upstairs outside to visit the ladies toilets. With the prices they charge I would have thought the whole place could have been better presented.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Sushi, Wine and Staff
Great Sushi platter and very good but expensive house wine. Panna Cotta and cheese to finish. Staff attentive and ambience good - will definitely return on our next visit to Guernsey
Be the first to Replyone of my best meals ever
the first impression as you walk in is how friendly and attentive the staff are … they look like they enjoy working there … the staff were knowledgeable of the menu and made very good suggestions which we followed … we wanted the beef wellington and it has got to be the best i’ve ever tasted … melt in your mouth beef with the best gravy to complement the dish very well … the restaurant’s atmosphere was very relaxed … overall experience was excellent !
Be the first to ReplyGood but could be better
As we were staying in Guernsey for a long weekend I wanted to try some nice restaurants for experience.
Firstly I emailed the restaurant to ask if they had a free table on the Friday night at 7pm. It was 2 days before I had a response. Which read..
‘Would this you still like us to book this in for you’ of which I was confused but replied can you confirm the availability..
I then had response saying Sushi counter at 7pm but they have booked me a table at 8.15pm.. confused again I called to request the 7pm table.
Think perhaps better communication is needed in response to customers.
On arrival it looked great and a good atmosphere. Think a little confusion on the booking but we were then seated.
Menu is very good and lots to choose so needs a little time to look over.
The waitress recommended the Edamame (soybeans) as an appetiser, having not tried we thought ok, with spicy sauce on the side.
Well, my only comment would be if recommending something from a high quality restaurant as The Hook maybe suggest something that looks like effort has gone into it or has a great appealing look. Soybeans in a bowl wasn’t really much of wow factor when seeing them.
However, the main course was very good and good flavours. The wine was very nice and a good selection.
Unfortunately my fiancé had Sushi that then upset her for 2 days, perhaps a one off occasion.
Overall, I think the attention to detail needs more work from waitresses/waiters and more professionalism as it seemed to casual and you felt left alone for periods due to it being busy.
Good lunch
Opted for the much quoted beef wellingtons that were excellent. Some lovely ceviche to start too. Very good but wine is a bit over priced
Be the first to ReplyMeat-eaters... try the beef Wellington!
The Hook is a must-eat place... the beef Wellington is astoundingly good, as are the sides. My daughter is veggie, and she really enjoyed our meal there, too. Great cocktails and friendly service - tick, tick!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Food & Amazing Service
We booked to be at the chefs table and was not disappointed. The staff were welcoming and friendly even though the restaurant was very busy. We were able to discuss our likes with the chef who was amazing and catered for my wifes Gluten Free request without any issues. The food and atmosphere was great and well worth a visit when in Guernsey.
Be the first to ReplyVegan Sushi ❤️
The vegan sushi here is amazing. The staff are lovely and the restaurant looks beautiful inside. The cocktail bar upstairs is nice. Really great place to go if you like sushi normal or vegan.
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi experience
My favourite restaurant in Guernsey turned out to be a sushi bar. We had a seat upstairs at the bar watching the chefs prepare delicious sushi in front of us - at breakneck speed it has to be said and very well presented.
The nigiri was perfect and the crispy ebi roll was a nice surprise. The fusion beef tataki nigiri was the standout closely followed by the seared salmon special.
The waiting staff provided a warm welcome and our waitress was very friendly and well informed about the menu and sushi specials.
The atmosphere was great with the mix of sushi and steak lovers all under one roof. Every table was full and the wine came in a great carafe for a large glass.
Deserts were also really good - the guernsey strawberry tart was delicious and looked like something from master chef.
Will be going back!
New Favourite Restaurant !!
We arrived a tad early but they were very understanding and gave us seats at the bar while offering us some amazingly poured cocktails. When the time came to eat we were moved upstairs to a beautifully decorated room with a nice atmosphere to match.
The waiting staff were polite and organised while also managing to show genuine interest to us as customers and sharing stories of their own. Because I’m not the biggest seafood fan I had the Guernsey Ribeye Steak and let me just say… best steak i think i’ve ever had !!
The rest of our party shared the sushi which arrived very swiftly after we had ordered and they were very complimentary about it!! It was put together so well in a quaint boat so compliments to the chef for design.
Our waitress while we were ordering was so patient and helpful - offering a well-paired wine to have with our meal and explained all the different types of sushi.
Overall it was an amazing night and a definite excuse to visit Guernsey much more often.
Good job to all the team !!
😁
Great food and great service
We ate here twice during our stay on Guernsey. We came back because it was so good the first time. We were in the restaurant upstairs, which had a good atmosphere. The food at The Hook is delicious and the service is excellent. Everyone was really friendly. I ate the scallops, followed by the crab and lobster tagliatelle (which was made for me without cream on request - the restaurant cater for food intolerances and allergies) My desert, of the white chocolate blondie with rhubarb ice cream, and ginger puree was one of the best deserts I have had. Hubby thought his molten dark choc cake was amazing too. He tried a sushi platter, which he thought was delicious. All the dishes looked so good it was hard to choose. On our second visit we were waiting for 45 minutes after our starters to get our mains - eventually it appeared there had been a 'miscommunication' ( we had been forgotten although they didn't actually say that. Despite the fact that when booking I'd been made aware we only had the table for a certain time, and we were almost at that time, everything was sorted and we got to finish our meal with no rush - with free deserts for the mix-up. We didn't mind! Highly recommended restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyVery relaxed place, great service
The steak we had was served perfectly. Even though the table was booked for others after us, we never felt rushed to leave the table. The staff were attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine selections.
