Deliciously Clever Menu
The Hundred the perfect little pub. What a wonderful greeting we had from the charming staff who are really knowledgeable about the ingredients of the deliciously clever menus. Quite frankly chef Matt had our full attention at the outstandingly tasty complimentary focaccia. We will revisit soon to try the highly rated Sunday Roasts. Thank you.

Devilled kidneys, salted skate, marinated trout, cold beef (belted Galloway) on dripping toast, not your usual menu. All delicious. A quiet country pub with a warm homely feel and a serious chef. Unusual wines too. Personal service. Good value.

Second visit in three years, the food being the big attraction, as on my first visit the food was great. Reasonable prices too for 5 star food. Accommodation is basic but the dining is anything but . Nice pint of cask ale served as well.

Had the pleasure of staying at this venue and also took advantage of the opportunity for lunch. They state a friendly and warm welcome and all the staff do what they say on the tin! Lunch was beautifully cooked and service polite and charming. I had the battered pigs ears with a smoked chilli and apple sauce to start. The sauce was unreal and many thanks to chef Matt for this amazing dish. My steak bavette main and my partner’s hake (stunning dish and great portion size) were cooked beautifully and so tasty. Managed to have a drink with the charming friendly staff after service and they were up to provide a great breakfast. All the ingredients were enjoyable and the scrambled eggs melted in the mouth and gave my partner’s version a good beating 😂. Definitely worth the journey. Go there and see if I am right!
Be the first to ReplyA real Gem - but don't tell everyone
Friendly staff provide very good service, excellent choice of wines and a menu that changes regularly. The food was served efficiently (you are not hurried), the atmosphere was good and the price per head was better than expected for food of this quality. The home made bread is a delight but don't eat too much if you also want the sticky orange and honey desert.

This is a lovely, friendly, quirky old pub with fabulous food and drink, great atmosphere and some rooms to stay in.
The menu is really interesting and the food beautifully cooked. Crab toasts, megrim sole with cockles and shredded brussels (who’d have thought it) delicious. Mallard with pigs in blankets. Great full english breakfast after a good night’s sleep.
Over dinner, just when we thought it couldn’t get any better my wife and I were asked to be judges in the local sloe gin making competition. Well it would have been rude to refuse! 14 samples later ……………
We’ll be back!
The good and the bad
Having read the reviews we booked here as we were going to Waddesdon Manor. Pub was not open so we let ourselves in the back door. There is no direct access from rooms to inside of pub. We stayed one night, room 4 - needs a headboard and a chair, and a dust, although a comfortable bed. Low ceiling in bathroom and quirky uneven floor boards. Room 5 - a single, very very low ceiling only suitable for a child. Rotten window frame, cracked glass, filthy difficult to pull down blind, nosiey radiator which kept my friend awake all night.Tiny bathroom, loo squeezed in by shower. The room is so small you are advised to open a window to boil the kettle to stop the smoke alarm going off, or as suggested by the owner plug the kettle in on the landing!!. My friend had no sleep all night and was freezing as she had to switch the radiator off. Housekeeper told us owners knew about window/room for weeks, but nothing had be done to fix the problem.
Menu is Mitchellin inspired with Pickled cabbage, pickled walnuts, horseradish, white beans, featuring on the menu and partly written in french. It doesn't sell itself as there is no description eg... "Featherstone"? "Bavette"?...locally reared pork chop cooked pink. Beef marinated - which I found to be tough. Unfortunatley not for us. My last job was working as restaurant manager in a 5 star Knightsbridge hotel, and I struggled to choose from the menu. The owners were quick to remove both room and pork from bill, thank you. Breakfast was excellent, although a pot of tea, rather than a mug, a menu, and some earl grey tea might have been nice. We found the choice of very dark green walls and ceiling too dark. As a very old Inn, just didn't do itself justice.
Beautiful dinner and atmosphere
Fantastic quality in every way. Very welcoming and attentive service, Covid safe, incredible courses and everyone happy to be out and enjoying themselves. Thanks for a great evening. We will be back, again.

I need to stay somewhere close to Waddesdon Manor. Close enough to be able to be there around 6am the next morning without driving miles. The Hundred was the obvious choice. I read the reviews, both positive and negative, and booked a room and a table for dinner. I should point out, I like good food and appreciate restaurants who actually take the time and effort to prepare something exceptional. I ordered the saddle of lamb. I was not disappointed. Imagine the best slow roasted lamb you've ever had. Now double the flavour. No thick cloying gravy masking the taste of the lamb either, but a lighter, tasty broth which they gave me a spoon to mop up. Wow! Seriously impressive. Both the chef and my server, Camile, were chatty but not intrusive. Just the one course this time but I plan to return, with my wife, in the future. Oh, and because I was leaving early in the morning, they prepared a take away breakfast for me. Thanks guys!

Elegant renovated pub with stunning food & delightful staff.
The room was comfy, the menu interesting & well delivered, the staff knowledgeable & helpful
An autumn break.
We stayed at the Hundred at Ashendon on the 13th to the 15th of October. Lovely quaint old inn with a very clean cosy room. Food exceeded our expectations and staff including the housekeeper were delightful. Definitely a break to be repeated.

Stayed one night B and B with a Evening meal. The accommodation was nice clean and comfortable. Had a bath rater than a shower ok for us but doesn’t suit everyone. The food was first class with good service. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Plenty of parking can really recommend.

I stayed for 2 nights. My single room was small, but clean and tidy and perfectly good for one person. The food was superb. I had bavette one night and lamb the next, both were cooked wonderfully and tasted excellent.
The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed and would imagine coming here for a weekend would be brilliant with lots of local walks and places to see.
Staff were welcoming and friendly and I loved that you could see through the hatch to the kitchen and talk to the chef.
Overall 10 out of 10.
Bitterly Disappointing birthday lunch
I have never before taken the trouble to write a review but I feel compelled to after my lunch out today.
The restaurant itself is like sitting in a dark dungeon...black walls, ceilings and paintwork, no view at all from the window, the only things to look at are the cobwebs on the plastic plants! Coupled with the horribly uncomfortable chairs that look like they've come straight from a primary school.it wasn't a good start!
Things didn't improve, literally the only good thing was the young lad serving us who was very pleasant.
Food:
My shrimp starter...spot the shrimp! The delicate flavours were completely overpowered with pepper. One tiny slice of bread each...lovely but woefully mean.
Main - chicken and leek pie, burnt pastry topping and very bland filling.
Pudding - my creme brulee was ruined by the badly burnt sugar coating which was way too thick.
I would've been hugely disappointed with this meal at any gastro pub but for a Michelin Star restaurant this was dreadful and there is nothing that would inspire me to ever return.
