The Kitchen Reviews from The Last Year
You get what you pay for! Good food, good service, good
You get what you pay for! Good food, good service, good selection! If you can't find something on their menu that you like, then you're in the wrong restaurant and should go back to McDonald's!!
Street parking or public lot next door.
Food is average overall. Crispy seafood chow mein was very good with large shrimps, scallops, and fresh bok choy, but noodles were NOT crispy and just soggy slop of noodle with seafood over it. Chicken feet in black bean average. Shrimp dumplings and scallop dumplings were good and steamed hot. Soup dumplings were average. Deep fried Taro dumplings below average, oily, cold, and tasted like leftovers. Sesame seed balls average, nothing special. Service was fair, but we came about 2pm close to their staff lunch hour. The restaurant was relatively empty. Suggestion to the restaurant owners to have some wait persons eat earlier so some wait person can do better job serving late customers. 3 stars out of 5.
Great place to have dim sum on the weekends and catch up
Great place to have dim sum on the weekends and catch up with your family/extended family. Dining room needs updating but DELICIOUS dim sum! They will try to seat you as soon as possible, and service is quick! It's super busy on the weekends so try to get there by 11:00am. Line is usually out the door.
Food at dinner.
Poor. Do not go at dinner time. 不要在這家用晚餐! 菜很差! Peking Duck: The skin was thick, the meat was dry, the buns were flat (steamed bread buns). The dish is graded F. It is absolutely the worst Peking Duck I have ever had. The only positive is it came with finely sliced green onion. Roast Pork (燒腩肉): hard meat, hard not crunchy skin. Also, the worst I have ever had. Graded F, especially fora Cantonese restaurant. Lobster Noodle (龍蝦麵): the dish was not very tasty. The lobster was OK. Graded D. Tofu/fish Clay Pot: OK. Graded C. Watercress stir-fried with garlic.: Graded B. The dishes came slowly. When asked, the servers answered that the kitchen was overwhelmed. The dinner took 2+hours. Service was also overwhelmed. Not worth the minimum tip of 18%. Very noisy, even by Chinese restaurant standard. Had to literally shout to a guest 4 feet away. Also the tables are so close that you cannot walk between tables. Came here to try out dinner for possible larger event. No chance.

It's been a long time to visit this restaurant! Used to be one of the best ! Now is ok ... we order 6 steam dim sum Chicken feet is one of disappointment Chicken feet recipe call to deep fried and steam with special sauce! So the chicken feet will puff up and then soften by steam! Skin should fall right off the bone ! This one not soft at all , just ok! After an hours we still don't have all six dish ! Also, we order House special noodle which we were informed will at least half an hour long wait ! So here we are waiting patiently!
Food was always good , it's one of the best in Millbrae but
Food was always good , it's one of the best in Millbrae but seating is way too close on every table , I'm not sure if it's against fire code , it make very noisy if you take your fiends & want to have nice dinner or lunch with good chat , good luck ! I haven't been in there for a long long time but pack to go only !
This Kitchen has been thriving for over two decades and
This Kitchen has been thriving for over two decades and judging by their crowds, they don't seem to be slowing down anytime soon! Located on a busy stretch of El Camino Real in the heart of Millbrae, California, The Kitchen has become a local institution for lovers of traditional Cantonese cuisine both in the morning for dim sum, and in the evening for large family-size dinners. With a city like Millbrae and a region of the Peninsula where serving this type of cuisine, it is hard to stand out among their many similar competitors, of which a number of them also reside along El Camino Real, but somehow The Kitchen continues to thrive, so much so that even parking around the exterior of their restaurant can be scarce. But luckily on the weekday evening that a group of ten of us went for dinner, we managed to find a spot right in front of the restaurant. We were not expecting the restaurant to be so crowded, even though it was evening and prime dinner time, the best reservation we could get was at 7 p.m., and they were still packed. The a la carte dinner menu at The Kitchen is separated into categories including Appetizer, BBQ Specialty, Soup Specialty, Abalone, Cantonese Style Entrées, Regional Chinese, Poultry & Meat Dishes, Clay Pot, Wok Simmered & Tofu, Veggies, Noodles & Rice Dishes, in addition to their multi-course pre-fix dinners for families. This evening our group decided to order a la carte, with eight entrées being just the right amount of food for our group. We started with their Crispy Skin Ham Hock, continued with their Thick Chicken Soup with Fish, Braised Fish Chunks with Tofu served in a Clay Pot, Stir-Fry Ribeye Steak Cubes with Broccoli, Stir-Fry Chicken with Chinese Broccoli, Peking Spareribs, Sautéed Mixed Vegetables, and Salted Fish & Diced Chicken Fried Rice. Our meal wasn't necessarily delivered in the order that we were expecting as the Crispy Skin Ham Hock came out first and was a real surprise as by its initial appearance the whole plate looked overcooked, but upon first bite every piece was juicy and flavorful. The benefits of a heavily used deep fryer, who knew? Another highlight of our meal was their Fish and Tofu served in, as the components of the pot were seasoned well and plentiful. In fact, all of the dishes came in rather reasonable portions, and we were most definitely full once the evening was over. Our family meal made me realize what we have been missing all these years since our last visit to The Kitchen. With a rather innocuous name like The Kitchen, you wouldn't consider it the most glamorous place even suburban in Millbrae, but they still proudly show off their Michelin Guide Recommendation from over a decade ago as if they are all still new and worth celebrating. From this meal, some dishes were better than others like their Mixed Vegetables featured a good amount of wood ear mushrooms, which is not the normal case when we enjoy a sautéed entree like this. And their Fried Rice entree was nice and extra salty thanks to the plentiful amounts of extra salted fish in every bite. Return visits to The Kitchen are in order for any visitor, both local and out of town, crowds are heavy no matter the time of day , and if you can get reservations, I suggest you do so immediately, as their menu is in both Chinese and English and features plenty of pictures, which is helpful for any lover of Cantonese delights. Their Regional menu is what may set The Kitchen apart from so many of their competitors, as some of their menu items are so unique you can only find them here, and where else could your appetite be satisfied but in The Kitchen? No where, as far as I am concerned, and may The Kitchen reign for another two decades!
My family loves this place, and it never disappoints.
The wasabi chicken and pork stomach is amazing. The beef and tofu is spectacular. The soups are stupendous. The crispy pork trotter is fantastic. I don't have one bad thing to say about their food. Well, maybe prices are high, but honestly, it's well worth it. You'll want to watch out for some of the waiters that like to upsell you. Usually you'll get a decent one that will tell you that you ordered plenty but there's one guy that always pushes you to order more. You think you barely ordered enough based on his words, and then bam, the table is full and no one knows how we'll ever finish it all. Look, you aren't gonna get spectacular service here. But what you will get is super authentic, delicious food in a slightly cramped and loud room. I still think the pros outweigh the cons.

I had my daughter order takeout 1st dish ordered was a disaster, fish claypot was unbelievable with fish scales throughout along with little fish pieces laden with bones...wtf The next dish was some pork stir fry ....equally disgusting I'd do a double take b4 ordering from them again

It gets so busy right when it opens! It was filled by 10:30 on a Sunday. Get there early! It's a nice restaurant, very bright and loud. The lady's come around with carts of dim sum or you can order through menu. We did both! Such a great price for everything and everything was fresh!! It was very good. No complaints! We ordered a lot but my picture just captured the first ones to come out. I would recommend coming here!
This is a solid dimsum spot that offers good food for good
This is a solid dimsum spot that offers good food for good value. It's our go to for family dimsum. They have a couple carts with all the classics but you can order from a form as well. Everything I've had here is pretty good, but some of my highlights: - Deep fried mochi pork dumplings have a perfect balance of savory filling to slightly sweet mochi. - Pea sprout dumplings - haven't had these before and was pleasantly surprised but these big fat dumplings full of greens and juicy pieces of shrimp. Our total for 5 adults and 3 kids was less than $120, and we even had leftovers, so it's definitely reasonable pricing for the bay which I appreciate!
Good dum sum.
Wait wasn't long. Service a little iffy, always having to ask for things
Came here for Chinese new year day 7.
The place gets packed and you have to make a reservation or you'll be waiting a while. Food was great as always. We ordered a set meal with all the seafood, lobster, shrimp, sea cucumbers and abalone. It was all cooked perfectly. Red bean soup at the end. The lights in this place is always a bit too bright for me, worst combo with the noise if your get migraines. It was super crowded, sat next to a double stroller that had no place to go. 20% tip was added and my parents were not happy since the service was just average.
The Kitchen in Millbrae provided a vibrant dining
The Kitchen in Millbrae provided a vibrant dining experience when we visited on a festive Sunday morning during Chinese New Year. Despite the full house, the atmosphere was buzzing with energy, creating an exciting backdrop for our meal. The dim sum selection was a highlight, showcasing the culinary expertise of the kitchen. From succulent shrimp dumplings to savory siu mai and indulgent baked pork buns, each dish was a delightful symphony of flavors. The variety extended to the main course, where the stirred fried beef noodles stood out for its perfect balance of textures and spices. The service was commendable, with the staff managing the bustling crowd efficiently. Their attentiveness added a personal touch to the dining experience, making us feel well taken care of amidst the lively chaos. However, the seating arrangement was a bit cramped, reflecting the popularity of the restaurant. The presence of televisions added an interesting dynamic to the atmosphere, providing entertainment while we enjoyed our meal. It contributed to the overall bustling and lively ambiance, although it might not be the ideal setting for those seeking a quieter dining experience. The dessert selection, featuring Chinese sweet rice cake and sesame red bean paste balls, was a sweet conclusion to our culinary journey. Despite the loud atmosphere and crowded seating, The Kitchen in Millbrae left us with a memorable experience, blending festive cheer, delicious cuisine, and attentive service.
Under new management, The Kitchen's dim sum menu is
Under new management, The Kitchen's dim sum menu is truncated compared to other dim sum restaurants in the Burlingame/Millbrae area. The place was packed on a Monday after the Lunar New Year weekend as a lot of people don't have to work today. The food was OK. You can order the dim sum from a paper menu. There is a single dim sum cart that roams around. The confusing part is, some of the items we ordered from the paper menu were available on the cart only. The dim sum cart never came by our table. We had to ask one of the waiters for help to get the shrimp dumplings and sticky rice chicken for us. Total before tax and tip for two was $70. Service was excellent.
Fantastic and authentic chinese food.
came here several times with my family and it's sort of our go-to now. Definitely come early as the tables fill up fast. Authentic canto food and good portions and quality. We like the soups, squab, and even the desserts are good. The fish/meat dishes are great and the service is really good. Just now it gets busy during peak hours so try to make it out early! Parking can also be tough, but okay if you don't mind walking a few short blocks. Ambiance can be a bit loud, but you can sit comfortably. There are a few TV with the volume muted. Overall yummy, I recommend it and our family will try to come out again!
The seaweed salad smelled and tasted like alcohol.
I expected normal seaweed salad, but this is something I've never tasted at any restaurant I've been at. The food was honestly mid and the meat was pretty dry.

Servers asking for more tips and I think is pretty rude to do so. Their script is "I believe there is a math error. You tip under 10%". If you ever encounter this, don't be intimidated and believe in your calculations.
The food was ok.
Typical Chinese cuisine. The service was horrible. We were stuck in the corner with a table for 10. Waited for service about 20 minutes until we flagged a couple of server's attention. Even then, the food came out slow. The atmosphere was bright and loud. I would come back here if I had to but I wouldn't go out of my way. Food was not presentable enough for me to want to take any photos of it.
Came here on New Year's day and it was sooo busy!
Came here on New Year's day and it was sooo busy! Thankfully my aunt arrived when it opened and was able to snag seats. This place has the aunties that push the cart around with the typical dim sum dishes, We also ordered some plates from the kitchen. Our table enjoyed the salt and pepper fried fish, spare rib churng fun, and the salted egg yolk prawn and pumpkin. Our dishes came out super quick! It was definitely loud because of how busy it is but that's most dim sum places. Our party had 7 people and the bill was only about $130, not bad at all! The parking lot gets pretty full next to The Kitchen but there's plenty of parking on the back streets.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
