little disappointed with our stay.
firstly the staff we met throughout our stay were all lovely. We had a cold bottle of prosecco delivered to our room which was lovely and we did take it down to the restaurant to finish. The tv picture was jumping around they did sent someone who tried to sort it, it didn't even play music without breaking up, the room was newly decorated and was very nice, the bed was hard and the pillows were very hard, so we didn't sleep well. The food in the mount restaurant was not very good, it was a Sunday roast we ordered it was not served hot and the roast beef was very hard to cut and eat, we both left it all, i did say something but just a sorry about that response i got. dessert was egg custard tart not a soft pastry but hard, we didn't like it. The breakfast was very busy but there was plenty of hot food to choose from. No complaints. I had high expectations as the midland it well known in Manchester, I wish i had paid the extra to dine at Adam Reed, there was a big wedding on so we couldn't get in.

We stayed at the hotel in March 2023 and were disappointed with the service and room. On arrival, we were checked in and given very little information on the amenities such as where breakfast was served and access to spa facilities. We then were left to find the room and take our luggage up. Given the reputation of the hotel we would have expected to have some assistance with this. On entering our room, it was particularly cold and we found that the air con/heating in the bedroom was faulty and did not work. The paintwork on the walls were damaged, something we didn’t expect especially given we had paid extra for a superior room. We also found the room lacked the basic essentials such as slippers (which we noticed other guests were wearing around the hotel) and toiletries such as cotton wool/shoe polish ect. We barely had much sleep as the we were placed in a room overlooking the tram line which was extremely noisy. We were woken up every 10 minutes or so throughout the early hours of the morning and then again from 5am onwards as the single glass windows in the room did very little to block out any sound. I would recommend avoiding rooms on the 2nd floor facing the conference centre. It would have been nice for the hotel to give some warning on bookings that these rooms are significantly noisier or provide ear phones in the rooms as we were both exhausted the next day and were dissappointed that what should have been a restful relaxing stay actually ended up leaving us tired and frustrated. The next day at breakfast, we were disappointed to find that the staff greeting us were not particularly friendly and the majority of the food in the buffet was luke warm. Overall a disappointing stay which was such a shame as we were looking forward to a luxurious night away to celebrate a special occasion.

Beautiful hotel. We had a 5 star experience. Bedroom was basic but nice and comfortable. Pool experience was enjoyable and great addition to a city centre hotel. Breakfast was fabulous..amazing selection of everything. Couldn’t fault our experience at all
Be the first to ReplyWonderful two night stay at The Midland
A Recent fabulous two night stay. A wonderful warm welcome from Joe in Guest-Relations and his staff, equalled by a stay in a fabulous, comfortable room with every amenity to hand. Despite the hotel being extremely busy, our breakfast experience, both mornings, was 5-star quality, and once again our experience of the excellent welcoming staff was really impressive. Particular mention goes to wonderful Elisabete and her team for catering to our every request in the most professional curtious and caring manner. They are a credit to the hotel, and we will return again without hesitation to this wonderful iconic hotel. Thankyou to The Midland.
Be the first to ReplyA Trip with High & Lows - All in All- Incredible Staff
In January 2023, I spent two nights at this hotel, for work purposes. First of all my manager told the hotel that I had been celebrating my birthday. The staff arranged to have a note wishing me a happy birthday placed in my room and this came with a beautiful chocolate dessert. A wonderful surprise that I appreciated. Thr second day of my stay was a little less delightful. I went over on my heel in my hotel room, breaking a bone in my foot and sustaining significant ligament damage to my foot. Staff acted quickly, sensitively and with great care when I called to tell them what had happened- John iced and elevated my foot as Tom dealt with practical and logistical matters. Following an initial examination and reporting- I was accompanied to A&E at local hospital. I was in a daze but and staff did everything they could to ensure that my trip there was okay and I was reunited with my possessions. I am now just a couple of weeks away from being able to walk on my newly healed foot with ease. I am very grateful to John and Tom for their patience, understanding and sensitivity regarding a challenging situation. I look forward to visiting the hotel again and I can confidently recommend it to my colleagues for future work endeavours.

Why would a supposedly 4* hotel only have a daily room cleaning service if you specifically ask for it? And why is air con not working on most rooms ? And why is the hot water running tepid? A sad decline for what should be an iconic hotel…just to save a few £ on running charges it is going down the pan. Premier inn service for 5* prices. Regular customers treated poorly and we are leaving in droves. Much better offerings available nearby in Manchester City centre. Just sad to wtiness

Always wanted to stay here .. for a special treat we did and it was totally worth it... amazing room and breakfast... also a mention for all the staff I met, they were all really friendly and helpful, would definitely return
Be the first to ReplyShopping trip with afternoon tea
Beautifully refurbished since our last visit. Breakfast and afternoon tea both excellent. Exceptional customer service from reception staff, waitresses, concierge and porters. Would thoroughly recommend and we hope to return soon.
Be the first to ReplyService charge
We were told the bar bill which we paid only to see afterwards a 12.5% service charge had been added ! Outrageous, especially since we had to ask for service twice before someone took our order. Adding a service charge equal to £15 is unacceptable when the service is so slow and it’s only a drinks order. Such a shame as the ambience of the hotel is so lovely.
Be the first to ReplyHistoric hotel, very convenient for Manchester Central
This is the most convenient hotel for the Manchester Central conference centre. The building used to be the headquarters of the Midland Railway company which was converted to a hotel some time ago. It is an elegant building in a good location. I stayed here for 5 days in early February 2023 and hosted a dinner for 18 persons on one of the evenings. I was allocated room 355 on check-in and I could not believe the quality of the room for a European hotel. This is the Rolls-Royce suite and it is huge with a separate bedroom and sitting room. Everything in the room is high quality. Unfortunately my luck did not last as when I tried to iron a shirt on the first night at 6pm the electricity went off. Someone came and turned the tripped fuse on (a 2 minute job). Later in the evening I tried to iron a shirt again but the same thing happened but as there is no maintenance person available I had to move room until the following day. Next day apparently the room was not available as it was under maintenance, nor was it the following morning. At that stage I gave up on going back, so I never got a chance to spend a night in 355!!! Apart from the above I was really happy with the hotel and would gladly stay here again.

Absolutely fantastic!.we were on a Wowcher deal , this was a Christmas gift from my husband, to see the lion king ( which is amazing) . I have mobility problems I called the midland to ask could I have a room with a walk in shower, the lady I spoke to was so lovely and accommodated us no problem. From checking in thanks for great service Mia, to our night-cap ( Mario) breakfast was fabulous a great big shout out to Bev who was just lovely, so if your planning a trip don’t hesitate to book the Midland

A great hotel, Fantastic main bar. We booked Standard King Room and we were surprised, the room was massive, clean, comfy bed. Staff were just incredible and even let us hold our bags back after checkout. Breakfast was a standard buffet style.. If i was to stay again I wouldn't bother with the breakfast as its slightly expensive for the options/ quality.

Just wanted to thank the Team at The Midland for making sure that our Stay at the Midland was special, We were upgraded to a Midland Suite and few minutes after we arrived in our room we received a phonecall from Mr Joe Marriott to see if our room was up to Standard. It was, and more, we had a small cake on the sideboard in the room and a card welcoming us back. We tried to book into the restaurant for 7pm this was confirmed by Joe, on the telephone. During our meal Mr Joe Marriott, about 7.40 pm came to see us, very apologetic for disturbing us, to make sure everything was going well as he wanted to make sure before he went off duty. We said it was. A lovely stay in a lovely room in one of Manchester's top hotels, made all the better by Joe Marriott. Thank you Kinds Regards Mr & Mrs Geraint Davies
Be the first to ReplyVery nice and pleasant stay.
Staff were very nice and helpful, complimentary drink on arrival as it was our stay before we set off for Santorini (Our honeymoon). Spa and pool were a great addition along with a great location. Parking would’ve made it a lot better as opposed to walking 5-10 minutes to a car park and lift was slow on occasions. Otherwise, enjoyed our stay and will be sure to return.
Be the first to ReplyBreakfast
Arrived two days ago. Breakfast is the usual anodyne hot buffet and pastries. No marmalade. ‘Apparently [they] keep running out’. Still no marmalade on day 2. I will go and buy some today and gift it to the hotel. Quite unbelievable.

Good hotel, beautiful room, friendly staff. Location is very central. Brasserie restaurant just about ok on a food level. Service in the restaurant for dinner was excellent though. Breakfast is a buffet, more freshly cooked options would be better.

Really enjoyed our one night stay at the Midland. Beautiful foyer and our room was also fabulous - fab bathroom, sofa, three armchairs….. plenty of room for the two of us. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we had a great night’s sleep. Breakfast was served from 6.30am-10.30am and was the usual - cereal toast pastries and hot food. It was nice but got cold very quickly which was a shame. All in all a gorgeous place and we will definitely stay again

Had been looking forward to staying at The Midland for quite some time, cancelled original centrally located hotel with spa, to experience what is supposed to be an incredible spa and hotel at The Midland. Disappointed from the go, checked luggage in with concierge at 11:30am, month prior when booking was informed check-in 4 (ok not ideal but it’s The Midland) spa could only be booked upon check-in. Arrived back at the hotel at 3pm hoping to possibly get 1 of 5 rooms allocated early (unfortunately not) When enquiring about the spa, and what I need to book once checked in, I was informed I could go straight down and book in for the following day whilst waiting to check-in. Went down to the spa, was told they only Had 7am or 1pm left as the spa is very small, in contrast to the 300 bedrooms, apparently I could have gone down at 11:30am and booked in. The staff were as helpful as they possibly could be and offered a later check-out due to the inconvenience and lack of communication. Finally checked in, room ok, very tired, bathroom very average. Disappointed with the shower, never have I stayed in a 4 star hotel where the shower head is full of black mould and slime (which I had to wipe away), other than that the shower had a great temperature and the right amount of pressure. Pillows very lumpy so hardly slept, but the bed was very comfy. The room menu did not offer one vegan option. Breakfast was a massive let down, again NO vegan options, other than different choices of non-dairy milk. Cancellation at the spa, so we managed to get in a bit earlier than 1pm which was great as we were on fixed 3pm train tickets. Arrived in the spa - no slippers or robes unless you’re having treatments, for hotel guests you would expect to have this included especially for a ‘spa hotel’ I’ve never stayed at a spa hotel where they were not included. Very disappointed how small the spa area was, The Himalayan salt room was very tiny. The steam room was average of size. The hanging chill out pods were out of order. Positives Friendly helpful staff Lovely bar area Comfy bed Power shower Good location Would I go back ? Absolutely not, I feel let down after organising a family members 30th birthday gathering when we could have stayed with the original hotel, cheaper in cost and had a much better time.

We stayed at the Midland at the end of July for a wedding. We chose it because the wedding was there and because it was handy for the centre of Manchester with good access to trams and trains. On the plus side the staff were very nice, helpful and professional and the breakfast offer was adequate but nothing special. On the down side when checking in we were told that there was a shortage of staff so rooms may not be cleaned though we just needed to ask if we wanted anything. Also informed that the air con in the room might not be working but engineers were working on it. This was after we were asked if we wanted to upgrade (charged an additional £115 for this) . Having upgraded we were disappointed with the room. The room was large but very dated and there were stains on the bed tops and cushions. A curtain was hanging down off the rails letting in light during the night. Whilst there was a hair dryer there was no plug socket to use at the table (unless you climbed right under the table) and I ended up sitting on the bed to dry my hair with no mirror. The light on the table was low voltage so no use if you wanted to do your makeup. In the end, our air con was working but the room was not cleaned during our two day stay. I realise these are only minor things but would have expected more having paid for the upgrade and from a hotel that is supposed to be one of the best in Manchester and has always had a good reputation. It was quite sad to see and to be honest wished we had chosen the Premier Inn nearby.

Wonderful time at tge Midland Hotel very kind check in clerk and wonderful appreciation of the kind touch of anniversary cake plate in our room and amazing cocktails in the bar. Ali is an amazing Mixologist and we appreciated the beautifully presented cocktails and tasted as delicious as they look! We are returning customers at The Midland a beautiful place to stay and first class staff hospitality team!

This was the first night I have stayed at the Midland in a long time and definitely remember a better experience with previous visits. The hotel itself is grand, you can’t help walk into the reception room and be wowed, unfortunately that doesn’t continue. The room is big, but dated and you can see a lot of bodged jobs with the painting, tiling and general small bits of DIY, making the place look cheap. It was also dirty - no attention is being taken whilst cleaning. There were marks up the wall where something had been spilled, run and not wiped up and lots of gunk in between the tiles. The double room came with a desk, sizeable wardrobe, fridge (very welcome), still and sparking water and a few toiletries. Other things I had to navigate round uneven and creaky floor, Aircon that wasn’t working (I was made aware of this reception during check-in), so it was either stifling with Aircon on because it was set to high or stifling without Aircon because we are in the middle of summer and the windows wouldn’t open. Also the way in which the showerhead is fixed to the bathroom wall meant that it needed to be pointed towards the wall whilst showering otherwise it would move itself. Every time I straightened the showerhead in line with the bath, water would flood the bathroom because it was so powerful and the shower screen isn’t big enough. Moving in to the breakfast, what a very under whelming. There is a huge selection of hot and cold items, however some of the basics of service, replenishing and cooking were missing. A major disappointment was waiting 15 minutes for a portion of scrambled eggs, to be presented with something that looked, felt and tasted like it had come out of the microwave. £18 (or whatever breakfast costs) for 2 pieces of toast and a mouthful of scrambled eggs…!

Tired and worn out, and that was just us waiting for a drink. We popped in to have a drink and be nosey, we often stay in Manchester and have thought about staying her as the rooms are a little cheaper than are normal hotel. Approached the quite well staffed bar, nearly as many staff as customers, invited to take a seat and told someone would be with us shortly. We sat very close to the bar and in plain sight of the bar staff, and we continued to sit and wait and wait some more. The bar staff seemed happy to mess about and chat with each other, but the only work they did was cleaning glasses, another couple left without drinks and staff just gave them a dirty look, after trying to get their attention many times, we gave up and left as well. The place looks quite tired once your inside, got no atmosphere and the staff on the whole seem uninterested and unmanaged.

We attended a wedding at the beautiful midland hotel. The staff were really helpful, nothing was too much trouble, especially Donna the floor manager. She was fun, professional and even put our mind at rest when she asked some unwanted guests to leave. Im blown away by the standard of service we received from Donna and she is an absolute credit. We are even discussing having our wedding here next year. Thank you so much.

The midland in Manchester is absolutely beautiful, we really enjoyed our stay and the food was delicious (we had fillet steak) all the staff we came in to contact with were all so friendly and helpful, and the plate in our room that was decorated with happy birthday and written in chocolate along with the cake was a lovely touch.
Thank you.
Excellent place
We really enjoyed our stay. The Midland has a presence in keeping with its history. A great location and we loved the breakfast at bar. But the main thing was the staff who were lovely - well done you!
