Cocktails!!! That is what this place is m own for.
We had several appetizers and they were just marginal. The real value is in the cocktails and the amazing view of the city

To whom it may concern,I wanted to follow up with my conversation with Director of Security Steve and the general manager whom I didn't get a name because he walked away during the conversation. We had a reservation at 7pm this evening. Our server, was initially friendly. We received our first drinks and placed an order for two appetizers (charcuterie board & mozzarella/tomatoes)We drank our first drinks and finished our waters without our server returning to either take a second order or refill water. We eventually ordered a second set of drinks in anticipation of our food coming out. At 8:05pm we still did not receive our food and inquired with our sever. The expression on her face, we both knew the order was never placed. We watched her go to the kitchen and then quickly to the server station outside the kitchen doors in an apparent attempt to place the food order. We were later told the kitchen could not find the ticket. At 830 we finally received the two appetizers which were good. It was apparent at this point the server was avoiding us. Our waters and second set of drinks were empty. At 9pm we finally got her attention and requested the check. It was then returned to us at 914pm.I spent 8 years working in the food industry and understand "off nights" happen. But with that said, there are many times when compensation would have been offered or a manager at least been made aware for a simple table visit. Neither was offered. There are a plethora of options available in Detroit and the metro area. Unfortunately it did not work out.Steve mentioned giving you a second shot but it's hard to justify $150 bills with sub par service.Thank you for your time. Please consider addressing this with your service staff.

We made a reservation in the tower for a quick bite and drinks before a show at the Detroit Opera House. The food was tasty and wine was good. However, the tower area is also their waiting area. There was a large family waiting for a special event. Everyone was kind and considerate and a family member bought us a drink. It was handled professionally and respectfully but it did seem like there were open tables in the bar area they could have moved us to....maybe. So they lost a star for the weird table location. It might have been helpful to know what "tower" meant when we made the reservation.
Be the first to ReplyThe Monarch club is a place for drinks.
The food is overpriced and pretty average. The drinks are averagely priced. The ambience is really nice, giving a rustic detroit vibe with great views

I'm not totally sure about this place - it has a lot going for it, including great views of the city. However, it felt a little pretentious and that's just not my scene. On this particular night, our group of 5 was looking for drinks and dessert. I tried the Fall into Kochi cocktail, which I enjoyed. For dessert, they only had one?? Very strange to not have a few options to choose from. But we ordered 2 to split and ended fighting over the last bite. A delicious concoction of a chocolate shell filled with mousse, plus raspberry sauce and fresh strawberries! A little pricey, but on par and on brand for a snobby rooftop bar.Overall, even though I didn't like the vibe, we still had a relatively good experience.

I have been to Monarch Club plenty of times throughout the years, and quite enjoyed it. However, last night put a bad taste in my mouth and I will never be returning. (and it wasn't the food)A group of friends and I went there yesterday for a birthday celebration, under the impression our reservation was processed. After waiting almost 20 minutes for the host/hostess to come greet us we decided to get someone's attention, as if we were not the guests of this establishment. Here comes the bad taste. This gentleman, who come to find out is the manager, greets us in a very demeaning manner. Rather than apologizing, his response was immediately "I am the only one working here" when it was clear many others were there to assist. After speaking to my friends with his passive aggressive attitude of not finding our reservation, I decided to speak to him in a polite way to see if there were any walk-in tables available. He said wait for about 30 minutes and we can see how we can accommodate. I accepted. As I was waiting, I tried to get his attention to ask for a glass of water. THIS was the cherry on top. He looked at me with look of absolute disgust and went to get the glass of water. He came back to me with the water and I expressed I did not appreciate the way he reacted. He says to me, "if you think this is going to get you a table faster then think again." As his rage continued to build up after telling him that is not the way to speak to guests. He told us to leave, as if I was not one foot out the door already. Two other women were there waiting to be seated witnessing this encounter and were very disappointed and vocal on how they thought the situation was absurd. I asked a busy waitress to get the General Managers number which was not available to her to report his behavior. We left and I, personally will NEVER be returning. It is a shame that I did quite enjoy the ambiance and other employees at the Monarch club. But a manager like this should have never received this title with having the most absurd or lack thereof 'hospitality skills'. As a former hostess at a fine dining restaurant, I cannot believe he is running the show. I was taught to always greet and accommodate to guests, offer refreshments and be professional. He was far from it. My first review too. It is sad to see what a bad employee could do to your reputation.

I have not reviewed this before? Really? My favorite bar in the D. Classy, old English pub feel. Three outdoor decks(14 stories up) offer great views of Detroit. Ten years ago this entire building was the worlds largest pigeon coup, not any more. Must stop in Detroit.

Went for NYE and food, drinks, and service was amazing! I'll always come back & recommend to all my friends!
Be the first to ReplyThis is a tough one to write.
I have been here twice and have had similar experiences both times. Let me start off by saying that the views are absolutely stunning, one of the best rooftop dining views in Detroit, in my option. The drinks are good, however, they are a bit on the pricey side but remember that you're paying for the views here. The charcuterie board was kind of pitiful, presentation was nice but the quality of the meat, cheeses, and accompanying items was low. I could have gotten a better spread of items from Aldi -skip the charcuterie board. Now for the service -terrible, both times. I sympathize with restaurant staff, I know it's a tough job and I know people can be cruel, however, eye rolling when ordering drinks is astounding. Did we do something wrong? Isn't that why we are here -To order drinks/food? Then to receive drinks 45 minutes later...not a great customer experience. We all felt like we did something wrong when we were nothing but polite -maybe the working environment is toxic? Anyways, that was the vibe I got the two times I've been here. I recommend coming here for before/after dinner cocktails and to admire the views. If you can, get a table outside by the fire pit. Don't expect prompt and polite service and skip the food and order from another nearby establishment.

The location is stunning, but the service, even when not busy, is very slow. I ordered a beer off the drink menu and was told they just changed over the taps and had a completely different selection. I asked for a beer with a lower ABV, like a Pilsner. The bartender suggested a Chimay. It was decent...and then the bill came. $40 for two glasses! I felt like the bartender should have given a heads up that this beer was $20. Then I looked up the ABV which ranges between 7-10%. Totally irresponsible!

Only taking reservations....for drinks. We used to love this place. Never going back.

Great place to have a drink and enjoy a wonderful view of Detroit on a rooftop. Service was great, cocktails and wine selection was good. We ended up getting a bottle of sparkling rose wine which had a surprisingly fair price. Taking away one star because even though we had a reservation and all the party was on time, we still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible experience.
Went to end a celebration and it ruined our whole night. Showed up a few minutes early and the hostess made us feel like an inconvenience. She told us to go in and walk around because our table wasn't ready, though there were many open. When asked if we could get a drink at the bar, she responded "I don't know if they will serve you." How do you not know? Fine, waited at one of the empty tables until she sat us.15 minutes went by before a server came over and delivered waters. Another 10 minutes for her to come back and take our drink order, another 10 minutes to receive the drinks which she dropped off and immediately walked away. Didn't ask if we wanted food or inform us the status of the kitchen or anything. We finished our drinks and waited 20 minutes for her to come back. We asked for the check which she brought over and dropped off. After 15 minutes, she had not come back to pick it up so we walked inside and found a different server to close out with. We ended up being there 90 minutes and were "served" maybe 3 times? Each interaction was so limited I'm not sure I'd even call it that. The drinks were good, as you'd expect for $20 each, but the service ruined it all. Don't think I'll ever be back, even for the view.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding view and the drinks were very good.
Only downside was the service takes a bit long. This was expected though
Be the first to ReplyI love the ambience.
It's great. Amazing cocktails. The bartender Nick looks super inexperienced and almost bashful, but then you talk to him, and he blossoms. His quivering movements make every drink that much better. 10/10 experience. 6/10 nicks facial hair.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is only good for its penthouse views.
We waited for 40 minutes and did not get served. We watched the server go to every table but ours and when we asked who are server was she said she would check. We spoke to Karen the manager that apologized but really didn't go out of her way to amend the situation. Definitely not coming back here. I had high hopes for this place especially since I am a fan of the Westin properties where this place was located.
Be the first to ReplyThey need to be more clear.
This is not a restaurant, or a bar that serves food. This is a fantastic bar... but their food menu is meager, and not that good.Stick with what you know. Bar, fantastic view of Detroit. Eat downstairs at Wright and Company!
Be the first to ReplySwanky rooftop bar with fir pits overlooking the city.
Great place for my first night in downtown Detroit with family. Overlooks the baseball stadium and city lights. Good drink selection although admittedly I am boring with my grey goose and club soda... hard to mess that up. Service was a little slow but it was crowded and so I assume they were understaffed like most places these days.
Be the first to Replynice location great drink wonderful waitress but obviously
nice location great drink wonderful waitress but obviously my over 60 age is not cool enough to secure a good table and then be told I should spend no longer than 90 minutes there even though it took 30 minutes to get waited on. not nice

Such a beautiful cocktail bar to end the night at! We made a fireplace reservation for 10:30pm and were quickly shown to our seats when we arrived. We got two rounds of cocktails while there. Everything was so good but the elderflower cocktail was the highlight. We were even gifted a firework show for about 20 minutes by Comerica Park. I would highly recommend this place for a couple drinks with friends!
