The Palm - Charlotte Reviews
I rarely do negative reviews of restaurants and normally
I rarely do negative reviews of restaurants and normally vote with my credit card. Even so, I feel the need to express our disappointment with our last 3 experiences with the Palm. We are transplanted New Yorkers who enjoyed eating at The Palm and Palm 2 in Manhattan regularly. Our visits there were memorable and friends of ours ate there often enough that they had their pictures on the wall in both restaurants. When the Palm opened here in Charlotte we were excited to eat there and build new memories. We have tried most of the other prominent steakhouses in Charlotte but always felt that the Palm was the best and became our steakhouse of choice over the last 20+ years. We ate at the Palm in February, and even with a dining room reservation we were relegated to bar seating and our meals were so awful we had to send them back. We went there on our 50th Anniversary in May with our 2 daughters and their husbands as our guests. When I made a reservation, I noted that it was a special occasion. During that dinner there was no mention of our anniversary and the steaks were average. Our primary server paid little attention to us and was not what anyone would call friendly. Frankly, that was going to be our last try at your restaurant. Our best friends from NY, who we used to go to "the Palms" in NYC with, came to Charlotte to celebrate two of our 75th birthdays. When we arrived my friend joked with the Manager, Joey about having his pictures on the wall at the New York Palm and if he could he bring in some concrete with his picture on it so he could be on the wall in Charlotte. He was clearly joking but Joey, who is normally very happy and friendly, gave him a side eye and made a smart comment. Our waitress asked for our drink order and our friend ordered your signature "peachy" cocktail from the drink menu. She was told WE DON'T HAVE THAT and eventually settled on a dirty martini. Her husband ordered a diet coke, my wife ordered a dirty martini and I ordered a Stoli on the rocks. Our waitress came back 5 minutes later to tell me sorry we don't have Stoli. Huh? I ended up ordering a Grey Goose. When I finally got it, the vodka was on a full rocks glass of crushed ice and was watered down. Not a great start to be sure. We ordered our steaks and sides. The two half and halves (potatoes and onions) we ordered seemed to be a much smaller portion than in the past and same with the creamed spinach. Our steaks came...my wife's ribeye steak was in 2 pieces and my ribeye tasted good but was half grizzle and waste. Not the prime quality meat the Palm was known for in the past. We decided not to ruin our event and send anything back, or complain, as it truly was a special occasion for my wife and our guests. At the end of the meal the waitress brought out 2 deserts on a plate with candles which we appreciated and was very nice. Unfortunately, though, the overall experience was not a good one. Drink problems, Joey's surly attitude with our guests, steak problems and a waitress, both this time and last, that were far less attentive and of luxury restaurant quality like in the past. Sadly it looks like we will need to find a new "go to" steakhouse in the future.
Wonderful dining experience.
My son and I dined at The Palm last evening. The food was great! The service was timely, and the wait staff was very attentive. The Maitre'd stopped by and asked how everything was going? I replied everything was good, and mentioned the creamed spinach was very good. During the course of the evening the staff made sure we were enjoying ourselves. The steaks were cooked to our requested temperature, meat was tender. We have previously dined at Sullivan's, Captial Grille, Ruth Chris, and Steal 48. The Palm will now become a favorite for celebrations!
As a native Charlottean who has grown up here, Charlotte
As a native Charlottean who has grown up here, Charlotte Restaurant week used to be about restaurants showcasing their hospitality and cuisine. It was a time for restaurant goers to branch out from their typical restaurant choices and explore the rich, diverse restaurant options in Charlotte. Our experience at The Palm was neither hospitable nor good. From our experience with our server and watching the servers around us, their irritation was apparent as people communicated that they were there to participate in restaurant week. It was an ungracious, inhospitable experience. The food was subpar at best. The pasta lacked flavor, the French fries were burned and old, the mashed potatoes were flavorless, and the steak came out raw instead of medium. The only positive I can say is that when this was brought to the attention of staff, they attempted to fix it,but the steak came back tough and burned. They at least then offered to changed it for another entree item. We deeply regretted choosing to come here.
I came here for dinner with two friends for restaurant week.
This was the first visit for all three of us. We had a reservation but still had to wait a while for our table. It is super awkward waiting because you standing right there by the door and the host table and all the people are coming and going so us and everyone else are in each others way. Once we were finally seated it took a bit to be given menus. Then we had to wait a while for the restaurant week menus. My friend wanted a mocktail but didn't see them on the menu but remembered seeing them online. She asked if they had mocktails and the answer was "yes". We had to ask what they were and our server wasn't really sure. It took forever to get drinks, forever to get our orders taken, forever for every single thing. Our server was nice but not knowledgeable or fast. All three of us thought the food was nothing more than average. Not worth the prices. Atmosphere is also not what I would expect from a place that has a higher price. This was a one and done for me.

Let me start off by shouting out our server, Krystal, she was not only extremely attentive, but also such a charming person. Thank you so much for making it a great experience! The food was phenomenal. I went in for my birthday, not realizing that the menu was à la carte, and Krystal (again thank you for being so patient) explained everything perfectly. I got the Wagyu Frites, which came with fried garlic parm fries, which were delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. My partner got the Oso Bocco, it was tender, hearty, a rather large portion, and amazing. We shared the broccolini side, it was more than enough for the two of us, we even took some home. My partner also got their House Old Fashion, and said it was amazing, whereas I got their ginger beer with mint and it was perfectly refreshing. Their cheesecake was also delicious and not super cream-cheesy like a lot of run of the mill cheesecakes are. We would absolutely come again, all around a great experience.

I recently hosted several corporate events for executive level leaders at the Charlotte location and had the pleasure of working with Erin and her team. Not only was she wonderful to work with during the planning stages, when I arrived onsite, every detail had been met with no exceptions. The space looked wonderful and it was a nice to have the adjacent patio available for my guests to enjoy as well. The guest of honor was so appreciative and could not stop saying how much he enjoyed both the food and venue. I host executive level events at fine dining restaurants all over the country and sadly it isn't often that I receive this level of client service. I appreciate Erin and team, and their willingness to go above and beyond.

Married in 1961 wife & I often dined at The Palm on 2nd Avenue in New York City where we lived. We moved to CLT, NC in 1982 when not a decent upscale restaurant was yet located. We often drove to Atlanta. Naturally we were very happy to see the Palm open in CLT and Monte (at the time) was the general mgr. Ownership has changed but nothing in the way of high standards was ever sacrificed. Joey and his staff are the best. Never had a bad meal here. Merrel & Nikki
Great place for a casual business dinner
Great spot for a laid back and delicious dinner. The wine list is substantial. The fish and steaks ordered at the table were succulent. The sides hearty and filling. A great spot for casual but business vibes.

I made reservations for a party of six, upon arrival we still had to wait 15mins before being seated and there was absolutely no place to casually wait without getting in the way of servers or costumers leaving. I don't know if it's typical but the restaurant was extremely loud and we had to literally yell for our server to hear us. Speaking of our server, she was terrible and rude. She was clearly from another country so I don't know if there was a language/culture barrier but her table side manner was insulting. We have a friend who is sober but enjoys drinking non alcoholic wine, when asking about it discretely the server proceeded to speak loudly about it back to her. Some people don't want their sober journey broadcasted to an entire restaurant. Read the room. Our server took forever to take our orders & we had to pretty much beg for a dessert menu. The server keep insisting that our group share apps and our meal... which was odd. We didn't want to share our food girl?! Overall everyone really enjoyed our food and drinks we could definitely tell it was a quality, the service was just terrible and for that reason I won't return or recommend... there's too many great restaurants in the area to consider coming back.
I tried this place for restaurant week.
The restaurant is more formal. For restaurant week I got the house salad with house vinegarette. The salad was average but the dressing was delicious. They also give you a basket of assorted breads. For dinner I got chicken Parmesan. The chicken Parmesan covered almost an entire plate. It was too much for one person. Unfortunately, it tasted average. I got to pick on side and dessert. As a side dish I got the creamed spinach which was very good. My husband got fries which were good and crispy. For dessert I got tiramisu. Overall the service was great and the restaurant was nice but I think there's better restaurants in Charlotte.
Exceptional service with great recommendations.
Food was great, well seasoned and served hot. I enjoyed the ambiance of light music that didn't overwhelm table conversation. The staff was on point as everyone from the hostess who welcomed and seated us, to our waitress Celine- made sure we had a great dining experience and wanted nothing. Definitely going back.

What a nice evening! There can be many new Steakhouses in Charlotte, but The Palm always delivers excellent customer service, wonderful food and a classic experience. We enjoyed our 23rd anniversary dinner at "The Palm" after leaving "Oak Steakhouse" due to dismal customer service, rude hostess and clients that looked like they belonged at a food truck instead of a nice restaurant. Thought we wanted to try a new place (Oak Steakhouse) but we were wrong. We love the warm, friendly ambience, white tablecloths and consistently delicious food at "The Palm." Perfect anniversary dinner!
Disappointing
Recent trip to The Palm was disappointing. The filet mignon was chewy and tasteless. I considered sending it back but did not want to ruin the evening. The jumbo shrimp were tough although the cocktail sauces was excellent. The are much better meals to be had in Charlotte at the same price point.
Going downhill
I don’t quite know how to say it. But the place is going downhill. It is not The Palm it used to be. The staff is not as friendly. The food can be great one night and mediocre the next. Something is missing. Something is off. I would tell them myself, but I don’t think they would care to hear my complaint.

There are so many good restaurants in southpark that this one is sort of a hidden gem. I made a reservation through opentable the morning of our dinner. We called to let them know we would be about 30 minutes late and they still held our reservation for us. It was a busy Friday night, but valet and the hostess were courteous and accommodating. Our server was Mohammed. They had a full wine list. My husband ordered a bottle of the Malbec and we started with the lobster ravioli. The ravioli was cooked in a spicy sauce that complimented it really well. Our entrees were the NY strip and center-cut filet (w/ blue cheese crust). Sides were the Mac and cheese and green beans. The Mac had bacon in it and the green beans had pancetta pieces in it. All the food was decadent. We were so full and had a great time. I definitely will return to try the other dishes.
The food was good but not great.
Overpriced for what it was. There are better option in the area. Clean, good service.
No Better Service in the Country..............
WOW................................. WOW........................ Unbelievable Service by Tony... Amazing Food prepared by the Top Chefs in America... And you are greeted by Joey who is the glue to an amazing evening with Gigi... I will even go on record to say that this location is battling the Tyson's Corner (Mishka - Incredible Server) location for "Best Service In America"... Thank you for making this such a memorable evening...
Returned to an old faithful spot last night.
Same rock star service. Same classic vibe. Same delicious dishes and a few new ones. Pics below aren't great but the food was. I'm still stuffed. Our waitress Amber was on point and our sweet waiter from Belarus regaled us with tales of his experiences to and in the U.S. while cracking lobster tail. So succulent...and that drawn butter tho! *drool* The meatball was impossibly fork tender and flavorful. Loved the big juicy piece of crab in the crab cake. No fooling around here. You won't miss the garlic in the garlic mashed potatoes either! It's just such a delightful, elegant place for solid upscale food. There's a reason it's been around so long. Top the meal off with the cheesecake if you have any room left. Determined to get my face on the wall one day.
I took my wife to the Palm for our anniversary.
The food was excellent. My wife had the Seabass, which was tender, fresh, and well prepared. I had the Bolognese, which was very excellent. It was a large portion, and I probably shouldn't have finished the whole thing. We were served by Mo who was precise, communicated extremely well, very friendly, and attentive. He made the evening extra special. We will be back.
Decided to celebrate our early valentines day with dinner
Decided to celebrate our early valentines day with dinner at The Palm. Had reservations made, and upon arrival, we were notified we had to wait a few to get seated. No biggie at all. We finally were sat and were immediately greeted by our server, Tony. He was very attentive throughout our whole dinner. He even let us know the kitchen was a little behind, so we should put our order in soon so we weren't kept waiting long. We ordered the fried calamari, which was DELICIOUS! We also ordered the 8oz ribeye steak, and it was the perfect amount to split between my husband and I. It was perfectly cooked and was DELICIOUS! Best tasting steak we have had in a while. We ordered the Mac and cheese and fries as our sides. Theac and cheese had a grill taste to it which I thought was weird but it was still delicious and the fries, OMG "Chefs kiss" they had just the right amount of crisp to it just how I like it. Overall, the best experience. The ambiance was expected, and everyone was super attentive and friendly. Will def. Be back for sure. Definelty recommend this restaurant for any special occasion or just in general. This is located in Phillips Place with complimentary valet parking or parking spaces at other shops around as well at the atla parking garage in the back.
Now this is perfection in service!!!
This was by far the best restaurant we ate at on our trip to Charlotte, NC! From the Gentleman who seated us to the great Server we had, they made us both feel special and hard to go back to regular restaurants again. Our server was very patient with both of us, he answered all our questions so professionally, and just made our night wonderful! The food was perfect! Would highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the Charlotte area, and thanks so much again!!
Had Christmas lunch there today.
Restaurant has not changed in 30 years. Stay with the best, forget the rest.
The food and menu are constantly updated and the meals
The food and menu are constantly updated and the meals never disappoint. You won't find a better selection anywhere. The service is impeccable and welcoming. They make you feel like family. The ambiance is comfortable and laid back, while at the same time elegant and refined. I don't know how they do it, but they could give the other restaurants in Charlotte a course in customer care. Thank you to the manager, Joey, for his kindness and accommodation and of course to my favorite waiter, David. You are both the best at what you do! You both made our day!!!
This restaurant is located in Phillip place.
There's plenty of parking they also do valet. It is a chain restaurant that's located all across the United States. There are characters all over the wall where celebrities come inside I haven't been to this restaurant in a long time so it was nice to come back and visit however, the Service was horrible asking for basic things like a straw water. My waitress disappeared for a long period of time and then the person who is assisting her wasn't able to really assist we received no recommendations pertaining food no information about specials. The food was merely mediocre. I do not recommend or could be just this one situation of an isolated case, but I will probably not return to this restaurant. Good luck and I hope you enjoy.
Went to the Palm last night to try La Famiglia Supper, we
Went to the Palm last night to try La Famiglia Supper, we are longtime fans of The Palm and thought we'd give it a try. Just to qualify my review, Sunday pasta dinner is my specialty and I know how difficult it is to compare a restaurant meal to a family recipe. The concept is good and the enthusiasm by the staff was outstanding. The execution was somewhat disappointing, the Cesear salad was outstanding, romaine lettuce was fresh, just the right dressing, light garlic, homemade croutons. The chopped salad was a total mystery it appeared to be lettuce, overpowered onions and dressing placed in a Cuisinart and blended into total paste. Presentation was nice on a 9" x 2" plate, but you could not recognize any form of lettuce in this mixture, I suggest the chef grab a chopped salad at "Chopped" or "Ruth Chris" you make the call! Now, no Sunday gravy dinner comes with French fry's but it's a great thought, sadly our first plate of fry's showed up cold and soggy. We ordered the 8 oz center cut filet and it was cooked to perfection. Now to the traditional family style sauce, the Italian sausage was fantastic with a nice touch of fennel, the braciole was stuffed with parsley and cheese, delicately tied, meatball loaded with good flavor and the pork cooked just right, all adding to outstanding flavor to the gravy. The biggest disappointment was the rigatoni, the only way I eat rigatoni that soggy is maybe the leftovers from Sunday on Thursday. I don't know if the chef every heard of al dente, but these noodles were overcooked, and I would guess sat in the Sunday gravy for a long time. You couldn't pick one up without it falling apart. When eating at the Palm you expect to have a nice slow-paced evening so cook the noodles to order it would have made the Sunday gravy dish a Home Run! With a little practice and research this could be a meal to die for. Not a sermon just a thought! Joe
One of my favorite steakhouses.
They can cook a steak perfectly. Also, since if the best apps in a restaurant. They have also been friendly with my wife and i bringing our two year old to eat dinner.
Not the old school Palm
The company that bought the Palm has ruined it. The best dish on the menu, crab cakes, they ruined. They have chased off all the great employees. I just to go twice a month and I lived 35 miles away. I went today for lunch and it has changed so much, I will never go again. And all my family had decided that when the family sold it. I was feeling old school. I did not even know what to order. Done
Steaks were amazing, but not impressed with the decor.
We were celebrating our Anniversary. Our server was amazing. The steaks were amazing. This was my first time visiting and I was not impressed with the decor. I was told that is the signature decore. I wanted a more personable, elegant, private place to go for my anniversary. I was also under the impression the dress would be more "coat and tie", but was shorts and jeans. Did I mention the steaks were amazing?
