Good rural location with a view of a fine church, excellent facilities and very good service. However some of the food was a bit disappointing. Superb mussels in a very good sauce started well, but the pheasant schnitzel with Caesar salad was frankly a bit odd. Pudding was mediocre but the meal was enlivened by a very decent viognier. A cheerful and well-patronised place - even on a Monday lunchtime - a good sign
Be the first to ReplyReally nice food.
Good service from the waitresses. Need to sort out the gluten free options. Felt a little put off by the barman, and the slightly aggressive behaviour response attitude. Lovely gardens

Well cooked food, good service. Worst cheeseboard ever. Little cheese and expensive. Friendly staff. Good wine

Be the first to ReplyWe had a great, great meal here and I can't wait to go back.
It was a little on the pricey side, but it was a great night out. We sat in a small front room with drinks while our table was being made ready. The chairs were comfortable and a fire burned in the fireplace. The resident dog promptly made himself comfortable on top of my feet though and refused to budge. Not being a dog person, I found this a little rattling, but okay. My ale was cold, the fire was hot, the pub was charming.. so, I let the dog rest on my boots. Service was excellent. The meal couldn't have been better. The dog did roam under the tables during dinner though, and I have to admit, I did ask the waiter to banish the beast, which he did with a smile. No need for begging dogs and fur on my trousers when I'm paying for a meal.

This is a village pub that has been waiting for the right person to come along and run it for a long time. Partly thatched building with fireplaces and loads of character, stunning views, a great outdoor area. But for years it withered on in an unloved way attempting to do all the usual things a country pub does but never really making the first grade. FINALLY! Last year it got a complete makeover and a new landlady who may I add is an amazing chef. If you are working class or Lord of the Manor you will be made welcome and feel comfortable here. There are fine ales, home made nibbles at the bar and the choice of either a lighter snack of a proper full on menu which I guarantee will not let you down. The price is reasonable and the menu changed every day. Sundays there is a special deal - ยฃ9.99 for 2 courses and 12.99 for 3. Well worth it! As I said, this is a place for all, so don't be surprised if you have dogs running in and out or children playing in the garden while the adults sip away at their Rose on ice or crunch away on Pork crackling left over from lunch.

Great pub which has recently been refurbished and run by a friendly couple, Stuart & Heather. This place offers what you might expect in any decent pub, a large selection of beers, lagers and real ales as well as really good food. I'd compare this with the Queens Arms (see my earlier review) as the nearest thing to it, although the Rose & Crown benefits from having a large garden out the back making this THE place to go when it's sunny. The pub is in a beautiful setting, great for walkers and not too far from town to be worth the trip. We regularly leave the car here and get a taxi back into Yeovil or Sherborne which sets us back less than a tenner. There's regular live music and a healthy following of locals who are always in there, regardless. I've introduced this place to a number of guys from work, who now regularly take clients here for lunch.
