Beautiful location, excellent suites, delicious food!
My husband and I visited The Samling for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We had The Windermere Suite which was beautiful and very clean. The team are very attentive, friendly but professional. As we arrived they rushes out with umbrellas as it was pouring. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing in the restaurant which was delicious and an excellent pairing. 100% recommend for a special occasion.

We spent 5 nights at The Samling for our honeymoon and had the most wonderful time there. We were treated like family by the staff and were made to feel so comfortable and relaxed after the wedding frenzy! The tasting menu experience was out of this world and the nights spent dining from The Gathering menu were equally enjoyable. Our highlight has to be drinking cocktails in the hot tub and enjoying views of Windermere. It was perfection and we will definitely return, possibly for our anniversary.
Be the first to ReplyNon residents not welcome
The Samling was the top of our list for our next return trip to the lakes, so we though we would pop in for a drink and book lunch for the next day before we headed back to London. Safe to say following an unwelcoming experience we are glad we never booked here for this trip and won’t return. Being denied entry to the bar because the restaurant is full which means that all staff are in the restaurant however the bar is not closed… the excuse left us both confused. I didn’t expect this from a hotel at this level and I could have completely understood if there was a private function taking place but this was not the case, so I can only conclude that non residents are just not really welcome at this hotel. Perhaps this is my lack of understanding of the area and is a local policy that we are not used to when visiting 5* hotels in London.

Had lunch at this beautiful hotel with friends yesterday. Amazing views of the surrounding countryside and the sun was shining!! Very friendly staff both at the front desk and restaurant, attentive but never intrusive. The food was excellent and the wine chosen by the sommelier was perfect. We will definitely be back.

We visited the hotel for the weekend and was without doubt a really lovely experience. The setting for the hotel is very centrally situated with great views of the lake, our room had everything that you needed in it and was beautiful and clean. We dined in the restaurant all weekend with the food and wine being top quality but nothing stood out as much as the staff their, they had a wonderful way of making us feel at home with their relaxed approach. We’re definitely going back it’s a great hotel

I’m not one to write a review, but this stay was absolute perfection from start to finish. From the moment we walked through the door the staff attended to our every need. They are so friendly, helpful and down to earth. The hotel decor is exceptional, the attention to detail is beautiful. We were delighted when told that we had been upgraded to a luxury room overlooking the Lake. The room was huge with a beautiful sitting area, dressing area and a stunning marble bathroom, the mini bar was well stocked and the Nespresso coffee machine was excellent. The bed is one of the best I have ever slept in, so comfortable. We booked the private hot tub over looking Lake Windermere, robes and flip flops are provided in your room for this. The experience was fantastic, we enjoyed a bottle of sparkling wine whilst watching the sunset. There was a buzzer to ring for more drinks/requests, this was a nice touch and meant that they didn’t have to check if you needed more drinks all the time. Before dinner we sat in the lounge, the staff were incredible and talked us through all of the different cocktails, even bringing us the quirkiest bottles and glassware to show us from behind the bar. I would 100% recommend trying the Dodo cocktail, the presentation and taste is fantastic! We enjoyed the 7 course tasting menu, each course was incredible but I especially loved the ‘Samling House’ surprise at the end of the meal, such a lovely touch. After dinner we had drinks in the bar, the bartender was amazing, we had a great laugh with her and felt very comfortable. A lot of hotels at this level can feel very stuffy, but The Samling is the opposite and we were made to feel welcome and comfortable. The Samling definitely feels very exclusive and we cannot wait to return very soon.
Be the first to ReplyA perfect couples retreat
I was very lucky to return to The Samling this weekend after over 20 years and it was just as lovely as I had remembered. The staff really make this place special, nothing was too much trouble. The vegetarian tasting menu was fantastic and the setting and ambiance perfect for couples. I’d recommend booking the hot tub with champagne (even in the rain!). It would have been nice to have more storage space we stayed 4 nights) and I would have preferred a log fire over a television (on the chimney breast) but these are small points that didn’t take away from the great overall experience.
Be the first to ReplyThe Samling Hotel Review - Amazing experience.
This is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. The service is outstanding and the food tastes unbelievable. Try the tasting menu - it’s amazing, and book the private hot tub - the views are incredible. The staff are very attentive when needed but you are also left alone to enjoy the privacy and calmness The Samling has to offer. 5 out 5 on every level!
Be the first to ReplyA Disheartening Experience at The Samling
"A Disheartening Experience at The Samling" My recent experience at The Samling Hotel was not only disappointing but profoundly unsettling. My family and I were eagerly looking forward to our stay, only to be turned away upon arrival because we had our 20-month-old baby with us. This exclusion was unexpected and not communicated during the booking process—neither over the phone nor on their website or any affiliated booking platforms. The manner in which we were informed about this policy was both shocking and humiliating. A staff member approached us during check-in to question the presence of our baby in a manner that lacked both professionalism and empathy. This was compounded by a suggestion that we should consider leaving our children at home in the future, a comment that was as surprising as it was inappropriate. What was meant to be a romantic getaway quickly turned into a distressing ordeal, leaving us to scramble for alternative accommodation. This incident not only disrupted our plans but also cast a shadow over what was intended to be a relaxing weekend retreat. The lack of transparency and the abruptness of the staff's approach were not in line with the hospitality one would expect from a hotel of such repute. This experience has prompted me to question the hotel's adherence to principles of inclusivity and fairness, as outlined in the Equality Act 2010. The absence of clear communication about such a significant policy and the manner in which it was enforced upon our arrival was both disheartening and unacceptable. I cannot recommend The Samling to families or anyone who values clear communication and a welcoming atmosphere. This experience was a stark reminder that hospitality should be inclusive and accommodating to all guests, a standard that The Samling, unfortunately, did not meet during our visit.

Excellent hotel, amazing Michelin star food, very friendly, helpful staff, our suite was probably the best hotel room we've stayed in (2 floors, bedroom in a mezzanine, living room and huge bathroom down below. Can't recommend highly enough, I'll be back for the next big celebration
Be the first to ReplyWonderful place. Worth the extra ££
This place is beautiful and reminds me of great small boutique hotels in northern spain. The staff are amazing. Attentive and caring. Felt that the restaurant for the non tasting menu occasions was a little too quiet. The view were stunning but the main dining room felt soulless. Too industrial. Maybe needs some art or something to soften the harshness when table cloths dont exist. The bar and staff were fabulous. But for us the food for us was over salted.

The view is beautiful, the rooms superb and the food and wine world- class. Others are probably better qualified than I am to comment on the detail of those matters. What sets The Samling apart for me is that everything is done with a great generosity of spirit. And that is a rare quality.

I was lucky enough to be treated to a birthday stay earlier this month. What a treat indeed. Our room was fantastic (Grasmere). The views from our three windows were simply awesome despite the gloomy weather. The food and wine and breakfasts were super. Staff very friendly and hospitable. Absolutely a five star experience. Loved it.
Be the first to ReplyChristmas getaway
My husband and I decided in June that we wanted to be away for Christmas so after searching for hotel packages we chose the Samling. We were able to pick a specific room from the category we decided on which was Thirlmere, one of the luxury doubles. An emperor size bed, a separate sitting area with L shaped sofa and TV on the wall and a large bathroom with double sink, bath and large walk-in shower. It was the perfect place to relax during a weekend of total indulgence. The package included a wine tasting on arrival on Christmas Eve, 3 course meal, lunch and dinner on Christmas Day and breakfast on Christmas and Boxing Days. We skipped breakfast on Christmas Day thinking of how much food there would be later and that was definitely the right choice. Wonderful food, beautiful flavours, fantastic bread baked on the premises and a huge wine menu with types and prices to suit everyone. If we lived nearer we would be regular visitors. The staff were lovely! Given they were working during the whole Christmas period and not with their families anyone could be forgiven if their hearts weren't really in it. Not so here. Everyone was a delight to talk to, so friendly, helpful and informative. If you're thinking of a Christmas away from home I would highly recommend The Samling.

Fantastic Dinner for our Anniversary. We were staying at a different hotel to celebrate our 1st Wedding Anniversary and my husband booked The Samling for Dinner in the fine dining restaurant . The food, the wine and the service was wonderful and made our evening very special. Thank you

My wife and I recently stayed at The Sailing for a long weekend - our second visit there in a year. Once again it was a perfect and relaxing stay. The food and cellar are excellent but what makes this hotel 5 stars is the staff: they are engaged, helpful, attentive, friendly, intelligent and most of all they smile!

We stayed between Christmas and New Year, we love the Samling it’s a very special place Indeed . We had a deluxe room with stunning views it was breathtaking , the rooms are so comfortable, with everything you need. We ate in their new restaurant and also experienced the tasting menu on one evening which was outstanding and worth every penny. The weather was awful it just rained and rained but it was so nice not to have to go out. Breakfast at the Samling is simply the best ever. It’s not the cheapest hotel but it’s in a class of its own. Thank you Rebecca and all the amazing staff who go out of their way to ensure you have a truly memorable stay. See you again soon.

For my wife’a birthday we treated ourselves to a stay and meal at The Samling. We have been trying to do this since 2012 but for various things have had to cancel (weddings & kids!), but, good things come to those that wait. The staff were ever so attentive and getting everything sorted (flowers in room, champagne in the hot tub at sunset and an totally amazing meal) was simple to organise. The meal was wonderful, especially the lobster bisque that, for me, was the star of the meal. Also not to forget Nigel who was an exceptional host and did a brilliant job taking us through all the wines we were drinking. Even the next day, breakfast has to have been the best English Breakfast I have ever had. When departing we were offered some ”take away” drinks and I assumed these would be in paper cups, they were not. They were reusable insulated cups, one filled with great coffee and the other with dark hot chocolate (my wife said it was amazing, which in itself is quite the accolade!) and I now use mine every day with my morning coffee when working from home. Thoroughly enjoyed it and looking to return in April with friends. Thank you Team Samling!
Be the first to ReplySlightly Disappointed!!
My girlfriend's and I have recently enjoyed another wonderful lunch at The Samling. The food and ambiance were excellent as always. However our visit was tainted by being charged £100 for sparkling wine. We had asked for prosecco but were informed that they don't sell prosecco and were offered the sparkling wine not thinking it would be £100 as a bottle of champagne was £85. It just seemed rather expensive and we all felt it should have been explained a little better by the waitress.

Absolutely stunning hotel. Exceptional service from friendly knowledgeable staff. Fine dining restaurant was amazing and the food at The Gathering was wonderful too. I would highly recommend this hotel it really is extremely relaxing in beautifully appointed surroundings.

We visited The Samling in December 2021 for a special birthday treat for my wife. It didn't disappoint. It's a classy hotel with a high quality feel about the entire place. It has a lovely bar area with big fires, original artwork and lots of stylish areas to relax. The restaurant is high quality with a beautiful view over Windermere. There is a jacuzzi which we used once and was great. We stayed this November in above 5* hotel nearby mainly due to the more extensive spa and regretted the decision. The Samling is a class above and we'd definitely prioritse going back next year.
Be the first to ReplyJust out of this world
The Samling hotel has been on my bucket list for many years so I was excited to be visiting. The stay, from arrival to departure, was out of this world. It lived up to, and exceeded, all of my expectations. Firstly the welcome from the staff could not have been warmer… it was professional but also very friendly and unpretentious. Then the room… we stayed in a luxury double and it was AMAZING!! Could not fault it at all and everything was pure luxury with so much space. The emperor bed and the pillows/mattress…. Wow… I really didn’t want to leave! We had the 7 course tasting menu in the beautiful panoramic restaurant. The food and service was exquisite but, as I have said, also unpretentious. The staff can’t do enough for you but also made the experience a joy. Will we return……100%. Would love to try the other restaurant and explore different parts of the hotel. Highly highly recommended.

At long last we’ve managed to redeem our Xmas vouchers from three years ago. We enjoyed some lovely , tasty , flavorsome starters followed by a fantastic main course and finished with a delicious dessert. The service was great and the view was stunning. Will definitely visit again

Fabulous food and views ! Lunch set menu was a sensation and fairly priced. It's confusing why we were the only guests, but as a table of 4 we had all the professional attention of the staff and the incredible views to ourselves. Highly recommend, the food, the wine list and the service. Top tip.. go before it gets a michelin * because it will have one soon I'm sure, or like everywhere else in the lakes you won't be able to get a table!

The Samling has one of the most magnificent views in the Lake District, the food is top notch, the wine list is wonderful, we were entertained by The Chris White Jazz Trio who created a happy atmosphere without anyone having to raise their voice
