I used The Sovereign for a special event and MAN did they
I used The Sovereign for a special event and MAN did they deliver. I worked with Louis and he was fantastic. On the day of the event, the team worked wonders to make everything to come together. They were very flexible and pricing was exactly what I through it would be. I can't speak to the food and drink but one of our guests had dietary restrictions and the menu had plenty of options that worked. Can't wait to eat here as a guest but if you want to try to do any kind of event, give them a call.
Be the first to ReplyFood was good and creative in using ingredients.
Service was good and our waiter was attententive. Took one star off due to the front desk's not so welcoming attitude.
Be the first to ReplyGreatest place in DC for real beer aficionados.
Do flights and get an education.Menu is matched to beer so don't expect French food.I love Sovereign. Best in Gtown with a lack of pretention
Be the first to ReplyWonderful meal! The mussels were fantastic.
It's tucked back down an ally but well worth the trip. Warm atmosphere and friendly service.
Be the first to ReplyStill a four star review years later but the place
Still a four star review years later but the place definitely needs to be dusted. Maybe it was our seats, but the level of dust was noticeable for a dimly lit restaurant.Anyway, we went for Valentines Day and opted into the price fixe menu with beer tastings. The food itself is all good, nothing to complain about; however, the beer pairings were not worth it. The baby sized pairings (one per course) arrived ten minutes before each course...by the time your food has arrived, you've drank the baby beer.I would have loved to order a real full beer but our server never returned and ultimately we had to flag him down for the check. Was the price fixe menu worth it? Sure. Were the beer pairings worth it? Hell no. Just order a regular beer.

5 hour drive to Sovereign to celebrate special occasions and milestones. This time, I brought my craft beer loving friends that had never been before. The entire table was impressed with the imported Belgian drafts, rare bottles, food, and service. The drafts featured several very rare and delicious Belgian beers. And the encyclopedic bottle list was just stunning. We ordered 7 bottles to share, including offerings from Trappist Achel and Pannepot, which are very hard to find in the US. We even got to try a 2014 Trappist Rochefort 8. All the food was great. And our server Franklin l, made the night very enjoyable. I highly recommend a visit to the Sovereign for all beer lovers and lovers of Belgian culture.

We came here for DC restaurant week and did the 3 course meal with the beer pairing. Every course was 10/10, and the beer pairings pushed it to 11/10. HIGHLY recommended. Staff was super attentive and cool. Also best mussels and waffles of all time. My wife lived in Belgium for years and couldn't stop raving about how good this food was. I don't usually post reviews but it was so good honestly I had to.
Be the first to ReplySat at the bar and ordered food.
The onion soup was good but cold - as if it sat and it was forgotten about. Had the mussels and schnitzel next. Mussels were great and the mayo on the side...thought I was back in Germany. The schnitzel was lack luster. No flavor and the so-called spatzle was definitely not.
Be the first to Replywe came here for what turned out to be a massive indulgent
we came here for what turned out to be a massive indulgent lunch after spending the morning exploring the georgetown campus. the bucket of mussels were only $20 and the portion size was huge. the meat was perfectly tender, never gummy, and i loved the addition of sausage and peppers in the broth. the atmosphere of the restaurant felt like a casual bar, and they had the huge selection of beer to match. definitely recommend this place for the delicious mussels and laidback vibes
Be the first to ReplyI was nervous going to this place since it was tucked away
I was nervous going to this place since it was tucked away in an alley; I thought it would be a lame speakeasy or way-too-expensive bar, but I was wrong! The Sovereign had 2 levels available for my date and I, and we chose the darker, slower paced downstairs. We sat at the bar and each enjoyed fantastic cocktails. The bartender was personable and attentive. She even made me her favorite non-menu cocktail. Great place with an extensive menu.
