Fantastic dining experience!
My friend and I heard of this place through the grapevine, and decided to try it out for dinner last week. Although I came in with an open mind, the dishes I had still blew my expectations away! I ordered an entree of their Local Rockfish, perfectly seasoned calamari, and their raspberry cheesecake paired with a dessert wine. Everything was delicious, and the meal left us more than satisfied. The atmosphere of the area was warm and inviting, with live music and excellent customer service. Our server Ira was very charismatic and attentive, and patiently yet clearly answered our numerous questions regarding their menu. Overall it was a great dining experience, and I recommend going for any meal of the day, regardless of whether you’re staying at their resort or not.

A friend and I went to hear a local artist that we love. We had dinner and drinks on the outside patio. The service was impeccable - we felt so well taken care of (Drew was very professional, well dressed, and polite with perfect manners). We observed that all of the servers were right there for the other patrons as well. No one was left waiting for service, ever! This is so rare these days where most restaurants are short-staffed. I highly recommend this place for Great Food, Beautiful atmosphere, and service that is top notch.

The views really are the draw. Food was very good and service was attentive. For a good meal at a spectacular location, this is a great choice.

My husband and I reside in south Santa Cruz county. Great to know that we have such a stellar restaurant in our backyard! We dined at The View on a warm summer evening. Both "views" were stellar: we shared a savory salmon dish and an over-the-top-delicious dish called "Mushroom Pithivier" ( a french dish that prepares locally-foraged mushrooms in a puff-pastry pie). Forgot to mention that both ordered cocktails at the bar during our short wait for our table. Mine was a Venus Gin martini made to perfection!

We had an anniversary dinner reservation @ 6.00 pm. We were on time and were greeted and seated within 5 Minutes. Beautiful grounds, that's the good news. Without going into boring detail our food had not arrived at 7.30 despite repeatedly reminding our waiter of our presence. After an our and a half we had enough. Right when we got up to leave the manager came over and suggested rather rudely that we could take the ordered food home in a doggy bag. Thank you but no thank you. I wish I had read the numerous negative reviews before booking, in retrospect, they all sounded oh so true, unfortunately. Take your money elsewhere would be my advise.

We had a 3:30pm reservation for six for Mother's Day. I can't rate the food because were never seated after waiting 30 minutes. The hostesses eventually admitted that since brunch was almost over, they had no clean linens, silverware, servers, and food was almost gone. I have never in my life showed up for a reservation and told "we have no food left, sorry." They were nominally apologetic for ruining our Mother's Day. Basically they shrugged at us. Abysmal. NEVER AGAIN.

I challenge you to find a poorer run bar and restaurant than The View. We have been here multiple times in the past three years (glutton for punishment) and every time we come, it’s a new experience in incompetence and disappointment. From the bubble headed receptionist who’s rarely at her post to the bartenders who ignore you when you’ve been standing in front of them for ten minutes - and then don’t smoke your smokey cocktail or don’t fill a drink order for 30 minutes only to tell your waiter that they’re out of ingredients for that evening’s signature drink, to the food that is mediocre and small portioned and takes FOREVER to come out, it’s an exercise in gastronomic lunacy. Obviously the majority of chronic issues are the result of failed management that doesn’t train staff and runs a terribly inefficient kitchen - because they don’t know what they’re doing. If this place didn’t have a pretty patio overlooking a forested valley and distant sea and wasn’t attached to a hotel, they would have been out of business years ago. I highly recommend you come for a cocktail at the fire pit (plan to wait for that drink) and head down the hill for much better food, prices, and competent hospitality/service somewhere else.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Experience. . . Full Stop!
I had a solo stay the Chaminade with the intention of not leaving the property for the entire weekend. I did two dinner and brunch at the restaurant and each experience was lovely. The food is made from fresh local ingredients and the menu quite varied. Sat at the bar both dinners, and thoroughly enjoyed the repartee between customers and staff. I rarely write reviews (despite my best intentions) but Daniel and his team deserve this one and more. Whether you are just seeking a cocktail and an app, or full dinner, The View is a delight all around.

I will be back!! This restaurant checks all the boxes!! I was immediately acknowledged by bartender, ADAM when I approached the hostess stand. The hostess quickly greeted me and confirmed my party of 10 reservation. She led me to a beautifully set table lined with a variety of succulents with a great view to the ocean. I was the first to arrive from my group and was prepared to wait for others to arrive before receiving service. I was pleasantly surprised to be immediately, warmly greeted by ANDREW. He was attentive and effortlessly serviced our group despite staggered arrivals with such alertness, positive vibes and high energy! We were all impressed with the generous portions and very delicious dishes that were served. The heirloom tomato and aleppo pepper Hollandaise sauce on my Chaminade Benedict were such a yummy twist on a traditional Benedict. It is refreshing to receive such impeccable service! Thank you Andrew! You are amazing!!

Visited this on a recent trip to Santa Cruz. The restaurant is advertised as view of the bay which is quite exaggeration. While it’s high in the forests the views are left for one’s imagination. Arrived at 6 pm and we were told nothing is available for walk ins and we were offered the self serve outdoor area with ordering at the bar. We sat ourselves and I went to the bar to order. After 19 minutes wait I was able to place my order with the bartender. At 7:10 our food was still not up. In between we were brought food that was not ours so we had to send that back. We can observe servers and food runners constantly moving food between tables and no one knew where the food was going. Visibly disturbed I walked to the bar and start asking about our food. I was told the kitchen is backed up and will be soon. At 7:30 they deliver 60% of the food and someone else appetizers. We told them those are not ours and they took them away. At 7:45 I went to the bar and asked where our appetizers are and I was told 10 more minutes. I attempted to order a cocktail and they were 86ed of 6-7 of their signature drinks due to lack of alcohol. I can see them removing the handles of the beer tap as well. They took 4 of them around 7:45pm. Meanwhile I can observe random people (who knew the servers and bartenders), socializing around the bar, hugging each other and having good times. Not sure if there was any type of company party on Sunday September 4th but there was 4-5 people not in uniform taking food to the table and taking glasses/tableware from the table. I’ve been in restaurants that are busy but this place was a chaos. Visible lack of leadership. Embarrassed employees that have to face upset and hungry customers. Just very odd environment and horrible service All heat lamps were turned on for the main patio and the self serve patio was neglected all night long. No light or heating lamps were turned on. The hostess person was constantly frowned and upset. Around 8:20 I was able to obtain the entire food order which was a burger, Mac and cheese and extra truffle fries. The burger and Mac were not seasoned at all and they tasted blunt. Truffle fries were good but cold and soggy. Overall mind blowing experience. This definitely ranked bottom 3 of all restaurants I’ve visited around the world. Something either have to change there or just avoid at all cost.
