Great place to celebrate something special!
One of the nicest place in Woodside. It's known for its upscale dining experience and offers a menu featuring a variety of contemporary American and California cuisine. The Village Pub in Woodside is well-regarded for its elegant ambiance, extensive wine list, and exceptional service. It's a popular destination for special occasions, romantic dinners, and those looking to enjoy fine dining in a picturesque setting. It makes great choice for celebrating special occasions or just a quiet romantic date night! โค๏ธ

Nice eating outside. Great options on the menu. Service was very good. Parking can be a bit hard, we had to park down the street aways away, so plan and come early
Be the first to ReplyQuite good but also pricey
Took friends to dinner here to thank them. Tremendous experience as service is outstanding, atmosphere quite pleasant and food presentation is wonderful. A Michelin restaurant is always a treat- you know everything will be top notch. At the same time you should expect a significant tab- ours was well over $1000 for four of us. The menu which changes seasonally included about 6 to 8 entrees with a broad variety of choices including halibut, scallops, chicken, venison and beef. There are also a few specials nightly. Starters are extensive. Honestly, the wine list is literally a book with hundreds of pages, each page containing multiple wine selections. I handed the 5 pound book off to our friend and let him make the selection. Even with the number of wine alternatives, few bottles are under $150. We did have an excellent French red. Each of us chose to start with a beet salad. Everyone ordered different entrees and desserts and we added a lobster risotto for the table to split. I prefer a bit more food on my plate than the Village Pub serves. Fixed price dinners at this time are $100 per person plus certain menu items have supplemental add-on pricing. They also add a service charge of 20% to the check though you can certainly add to the tip. Also they pass-thru a local health coverage fee of 3.5%. You definitely should think of this as a special occasion restaurant.

For an expensive, romantic dinner The Village Pub is great. Attentive service that makes you feel special, delicious food. Every dish was exceptionable and memorable. Overall a wonderful experience. Very expensive but arguably the best dinner in the area

I'm glad they have kept the patio post pandemic. It is a bright spot in this review. I am ok with the change in the menu as well in the last 2 years; although there are a lot of supplemental charges for many selections which seems to make the base price for the menu seem like an entrance fee. Nevertheless the dishes are awesome. The thing that has changed significantly is the service and the tipping. When it was a smaller operation you knew your servers. Water glass were full and bread and butter were readily available. Either the server or the sommelier refilled your wine glass. It wasn't obtrusive, just a familiar dance happening while enjoying the evening. If you wanted to share a plate, no problem. We indicated it was our anniversary. Usually a sweet surprise arrives to celebrate along with dessert. Nothing. The sommelier was pushing hard to upsell wines in the $300-400 range at the start of dinner. Then comes the fun part. The 20% tip is automatically applied to the total so you have zero incentive to order a nice bottle of wine. I have to believe the uplift in the wine price is already ample to cover wine service. And I wouldn't say our overall service was Michelin level. Granted the place was absolutely packed on a Monday night so clearly there is demand for what is happening at the restaurant. Many Michelins in the area not only apply the tip but also require deposits which is even more absurd. So maybe I am in the minority but I wish I could have my friend back and the ability to apply my own tip.

The food was, as expected, top notch. I had the duck, which I really enjoyed, especially the pain perdu which I have never had before. The service was very friendly, although sometimes seemed absent. Maybe they could tell we weren't in a rush. The outdoor seating was fairly spacious and well setup.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and underwhelming
This restaurant has a Michelin star ??? That's not right. Here is our experience.
Overpriced, overrated, mediocre food and bad service.
I am not a stranger of paying $$$$ for food and cocktails but this place is definitely not worth spending.
It started with service. As we were seated, we were given a "wine list" (a book nothing short of a War and Peace volume), no menus. My husband doesn't drink, so he would like to explore the food menu but it was a while until they brought us one. Everyone around was served variety of house baked bread, even people who were seated after us. We had to ask for it. We asked for water NO ICE. Minutes later come two glasses of water full of ice. Meanwhile table next to us with Russian speaking patrons gets all the attention, including from the manager. Maybe they bought expansive wine or something.
Food. The pre fix menu has ALL KINDS of add ons, so watch out ! Heirloom tomato/burrata salad for $38 ? Oh, that's reasonable ! The burrata was tough,Overpriced and underwhelming
I get better exact salad at Revel in Danville for $16.50 and burrata just melts in your mouth and tastes like buttuh.
Fois gras (add on). A piece of lard, pure butter with a hint of duck liver. SO not what I expected in a place like this.
Lobster (add on), basically smallest minced pieces of lobster mixed with a lot of bread crumbs. No lumps of real lobster meat, just something they make stuffing with.
Desert (add on ) basic soufflรฉ had better.
Two Grey Goose vodka martinis $34 plus $4 Grey Goose add on ?
All their cocktails in the menu that had way more ingredients like Negroni are $15
Add on after add on after add on....and on top of that, they already calculate 20% tip FOR YOU. What if I don't find the service and /or food worthy of 20% ? How presumptuous
I know so many places that are worth every penny charged including tip and The Village Pub is not it. I guess they benefit being a fancy place in the middle of nowhere.
Id rather take my money to French Laundry .
Surrender your right to tip accordingly.
It was a nice evening, the menu and food were good. I do have an issue that they add on a 20% tip automatically. I can choose what I wish to tip, it should not be regulated automatically at 20%.

The Village Pub is a more elegant restaurant than the name implies. Though often frequented by residents in the area who bring their (well behaved) kids, and quirky elderly couples who have enough money to be called eccentric, the restaurant strikes the right balance of being formal without being pretentious or stuffy.
OUTDOOR DINING: The outdoor dining area was unexpectedly pleasant even though it wasn't scenic and was surrounded by parking lot. They've encircled the area with a wall of planter boxes overflowing with flowers and trees to create a nice ambiance. Each table had its own heater to counteract the sometimes-chilly breeze off the mountains. Very nice.
MENU: The wine list was impressively hefty and filled with many "I'd love to try that one" options. The menu, in comparison, was surprisingly limited and only had a few choices for each course. However, each item was carefully prepared with a good balance of creative flavors and artistic presentation. They had several vegetarian options and the staff was keen to ask for any food allergies that would require something different from the chef. The food was very good.
STAFF: The service staff is helpful and friendly and they are supported by people equally friendly and helpful. The service was very good.
SUGGESTIONS: There were two things that detracted from the dinner. (1) The cheese course was sparse, boring and grossly overpriced. (2) The server did not inform us that she had already added in the tip (for our party of three). Had the table next to us not discovered she did the same to them, I would've paid twice. Pre-adding the tip is presumptuous. Not telling the guest is poor form.
Great presentation but very small portions
Great presentation but very small portions and very expensive. Village Pub has been always very expensive and has had a very small menu but the Pub menu was always a good value. This time the prix fixe lunch was 2 courses.. and I had the rock cod tartare almost a ceviche style and the Nicosia Salad. I asked for the Tuna to be medium rare and it was cooked to perfection

This restaurant has improved from prior years. The cuisine is lighter and the patio seating is actually very pleasant.
Right now, they have a 3 course prix fixe dinner for around $80. I like the fact that the menu now has lobster. I would like to see more seafood offerings.
We had the caviar service the other night. The American caviar was very good. The blinis were good but a bit doughy.
My husband had the duck which is their specialty and he said it was very tasty. I had the poached lobster which was a bit overcooked. I liked the lobster thermador ,which they offered in July, better. The first course of pasta with truffles was really really good. I highly recommend this place.
Service excellent as always!
Service excellent as always! We are regulars here. Whether it is for the hamburgers at lunch with fries or it is for dinner with a amazing steak, one thing never changes, the service and high quality of food. Truly deserving of the Michelin Star.
Be the first to Reply-Fine food...frightening service-
Our most recent visit to the Village Pub gave us one surprise I certainly would not expect from a restaurant as consistent as theirs... some of the worst service I have EVER received.
After coming on numerous occasions I can wholeheartedly say that you would be hard pressed to find anything on the menu that is genuinely bad and the service is usually warm, inviting, and comfortable, yet polished (as you would expect at a fairly casual restaurant like this).
However, Our recent dinner (2/3/2020) with the server John K felt like we were at an entirely different restaurant.
From the second we sat down there was an air of coldness and almost disdain as if he did not even want to be waiting on us. This continued throughout the meal to an inexplicable extent that my dining partners and I all noticed his body language as well as basic failures to provide service. John did not remove the menus from our table (however a lovely blonde lady recognized we clearly did not need them and promptly removed them), did not offer us any bread from the usually specular bread basket (a separate gentleman had to do so when he noticed the glaring emptiness), did not remove the flatware as needed, and on several occasions not only seemed disinterested in serving us but actually walked away as we were in the process of deciding on dessert. I would understand urgency if this was prime dinner hour however it was 8:00pm when we were seated with the restaurant about 1/3 full, furthermore his behavior crossed far beyond small missteps and well into the realm of simple disrespect.
The food was satisfying and well prepared as usual, each of us having the perennial favourite pub burger and no complaints.
I would urge the Village Pub to assess the situation to ensure that John does not treat any other guests the same way. Forgetting a minor thing like removing one menu can be overlooked, but a stack of 5 menus is simply careless. Furthermore, I can see no situation where it would be okay for a server to turn their back on guests and walk away as they decide on dessert...
I would recommend in general, particularly for the drinks, but caution you that your experience may greatly vary with the service.
Always good service and good food
We go for dinner occasionally to the Village Pub and are surprised that it continues to do well when other places like John Bentley and Chantilly have shirt down. Consistently good service and good food is the key. The menu itself is short and comes in two parts with a short Pub menu as well. The wine menu is very extensive. We got a complimentary starter and a choice of breads. I ordered a Caesar Salad that came with Romain Lettuce smaller size croutons but nice sized and amount of anchovies. I also had a hamburger which was excellent and came with tomatoes, pickles and bleu cheese dressing and fries. My friends had the Citrus and Fennel Salad and the the Roasted Steak of Cauliflower which came on a bed of spiced chick peas ( not that great) another friend had the rRisotto which was good and a third had the Maryโs Heritage Chicken which was quite a big chunk of chicken roasted well and moist and tender. We skipped dessert. But there was a complimentary selection of chocolates and small tarts which we sent back. Still holding on to our New Years resolution of โno sweetsโ

Village Pub is Woodsides's coolest pub. It's kind of takes me back to a upscale London Pub that is pretentious. I always get a burger or the steak from the pub menu. You still will spend over $100, but the food is good. To be honest I'd rather spend my money in a fancyondon pub because I know it still go further if you can believe that. Service is good, but constantly up selling.
