I give this a 5/5 for ambiance and vibes and a 2/5 for the actual treats. They were cute, but not delicious. Overall 3.5
Tasty food, great service , portions could be more generous. WOT no British Ale
Great lunch with friends. Had the fish of the day, bream with spinach , cherry tomatoes and French beans. The food was tasty but the amount of vegetables was very small. The service was attentive. Disappointing that this iconic British institution does not have a British ale on the menu, Come on Wolseley, support the Great British Brewer and the guests something that is truely British .
Fantastic !!
What a lovely lunch. Beautiful service in a bustling restaurant with absolutely immaculate service and great food. It's got a lively, fizzy atmosphere - like a glass of good champagne. Perfect for Friday lunch.
Too quick service is not always good
We chose the fixed menu, but I don't think we should have done it. It meant that serving was very quickly and it was a bit stressful that the waiter came very often to give os more of the bottle of wine we had chosen, We got the experience that they would like us to finish as soon as possible, so this was not so nice an experience.
Kind of disappointing
We booked this tea a couple of months ago based on all the hype. We have travelled to London before and had afternoon tea at The Dilly, Browns, and The Beaumont... All of which were better than The Wolseley. I am really disappointed overall... The atmosphere is noisy and crowded...the food was okay but nothing special, there is just nothing to love about it.
Disappointing.
I was looking forward to visiting as I love breakfast, and The Wolseley is a bit of a breakfast icon. However, I was disappointed. The food was ok, but nothing too special. My coffee was lukewarm. Two small pieces of toast arrived to accompany the main breakfast. There was more butter than toast! The service was fine but not friendly. I was left with the impression that we were not wanted. Of course, being a Brit, I did not complain and paid the hefty service charge. However, I will not go again for breakfast.
Brilliant food/service and follow up
The service, food and atmosphere were beyond my expectations- highly recommended. I managed to leave an item of clothing behind. Despite it being a Saturday night at their busiest time, when I subsequently phoned they could not be more helpful/proactive and it was returned to me. Outstanding customer service. It’s now my go to place and first recommendation to others. Well done Wolseley!
Dodgy pricing—watch that cover charge—and poor food and service.
Beautiful building and “storied” restaurant. Food and service is poor. My server was unfamiliar with the menu, which reflects poorly on the management, not her, but she also poured wine into the water glass at the table next to me, so maybe a combo. There is a 2.50 service charge, that isn’t made clear in the booking form, so by the time you’ve seen it on the menu, you’re already sat at the table and it’s too late. There is also a 18+% service charge, which is really just The Wolseley being greedy on top of their exorbitant (even by central London standards)…there was no service to speak of. I had been looking forward to this and am searching for something positive…I guess the building is nice. Avoid—you can make a better schnitzel at home and not have a coverage charge or water in your wine. There are much better restaurants at a better price (and no cover charge) in central London.
Wolseley's Dinner
We reserved a table for dinner to celebrate our Anniversary. We were given a wonderful table in the front booth. The food was delicious- we ordered from the special 3 course meals. My cheese soufflé was the best I have ever tasted. My husband ordered the fish and it was delicious, too. They gave us a dessert to celebrate. The restaurant is a traditional English Restaurant with good food.
One of my favourites
I've been here a number of times and I've yet to be disappointed. Service is excellent. The decor and atmosphere is lovely, just so quintessentially English. The food is great, drinks are good - whether it's alcohol or hot tea etc. The private rooms upstairs are really something special. I definitely felt spoiled up there!
Average but very pricey.
Really expensive and not that special. We had brunch and the food was fairly average and very expensive. 15% service charge on top of high prices. I had bacon and pancakes and the bacon was cremated, you couldn’t cut it with a knife. My partner had omelette and toast, but they forgot to bring the toast. It arrived at the end of the meal after we had twice reminded the staff about it. Other friend and scrambled egg on toast, small portion. Overall nothing out the ordinary.

The best restaurant experience I've ever had was at The Wolseley. The service, food and restaurant are the best of the best.
Fast food.
I love The Wolsley, but this is the second consecutive visit where things have not been perfect. All the food was good but my prawn and avocado salad was a little bland. But only a little. The real problem was that we had just finished our starters and they tried to serve the main, so had to wait while the plates were cleared. That shouldn't happen.
Appalling Service
Beautiful building with ambiance and a buzz. The food, when it eventually arrived, was excellent. However, the service was SO appalling that, despite trying to appease us with extra desserts, we complained and the service charge was removed. The waiting staff were very pleasant and professional, but there was clearly something amiss in the kitchen. What should have been a happy birthday celebration turned out to be a frustrating and unpleasant experience. What a shame. Nothing will persuade me to return.
Lunch for two on a happy Friday
An excellent lunch. We both had the chicken schnitzel which was perfectly cooked. The side salad was delicious and the creamed spinach was tasty. Two Camparis and soda were absolutely great. Very quiet attentive service in a buzzy atmosphere. This place never fails to please.
Avoid this place
We had a 2 hour lunch slot but after 1.5 hours the management started to hassle us to leave. We pointed out that we had another 30 minutes left but they still pushed to get us to go earlier. After another 10 minutes they got heavier in their hassling. This place used to be charming but now the interest is clearly in turning the tables as often as they can. There are lots of other excellent restaurants in the area where the food and service are good and the management considerably more charming and where one isn't subject to this kind of pressure. Avoid at all costs.
Great service
We have been to the Wolseley before and enjoyed it. This time was a special treat’ for our anniversary and in London. My husband had fish cakes which thoroughly enjoyed and I had kedgeree which was very good indeed. The service was unobtrusive and good. The atmosphere was lively and we left in a good mood. I left my gloves & the staff phoned me to say they would keep them until I retrieved them which they did. Smiles all around. Oh yes, i’ll be happy to return.
St James hot spot
Historic building, perfect service from the doorman to the waitress and good food Battenberg cake to end the lunch 1st time 10 years ago and the quality standard is still high
Very disappointed
I went with a friend today. We have been going for years. This was the first time we had been asked to leave the table. Firstly the table wasn't ready when we arrived then it took a while until we were given a menu. I realise that it was very busy but not certain if the people who were waiting had already booked or random off the street. However, we were still drinking our coffee when we were asked to vacate the table! Considering wlour bill was over £70 each this was very bad PR. The atmosphere isn't the same since it had been taken over and has lost its sparkle. Not special anymore. Certainly I won't be going back. A pity after being a client for many years.
A truly beautiful Restaurant
I Had a full English breakfast With friends this morning The Service & food was first class as always. So convenient to Green Park, & Buckingham Palace.

This place is absolutely beautiful inside, especially during the holidays. We were excited to take our parents here for their first breakfast experience in London. Their service was consistent and welcoming which is always a great thing to experience from any food establishment. Makes the meal that much more engaging and enjoyable. We ordered some teas which is an obvious must for our morning meal. English breakfast was shared since it tends to be a bit overwhelming in size for us 4. We also ordered Eggs Benedict which tasted fabulous. Great thing about traveling with the family is that we can share and sample more without being overstuffed. My family truly enjoyed the meal and experience here. Can't wait to visit again in the future. I would recommend this amazing establishment if you were looking for an elegant morning meal.

I will be quick to admit that over the years this has been one of my wife and my favorite restaurant. The food tonight was excellent. Perhaps the best since we've been coming for the past 17 years. We got the coq au vin with mashed potatoes after starting with the Oscetra caviar. Everything was great with a few glaring items: 1. We waited almost thirty minutes for our drinks (martinis) 2. We asked for small plates so we could eat our caviar and escargot and it took 15 minutes to get them. The escargot was cold by then 3. We were out of water for half the dinner 4. We waited for our drinks for at least 10-15 minutes for water h of the next two rounds 5. Server forgot it was my spouses birthday and charged us for dessert 6. There is a tablecloth charge of £7.50. Yes, a tablecloth charge. If it has been there for the past 17 years, I never noticed it. All in all, really disappointed in the service and the lack of care from the manager who we spoke to about it on our way out. Food was great but expected a lot more. Less than exciting return to one of our historic favorites. Hope your service is better than ours.
Beautiful restaurant and great for a fancy-but-not-stuffy
Beautiful restaurant and great for a fancy-but-not-stuffy meal. The menu is all full of European classics, with some fancy items (caviar) but also some comforting basics (roast chicken). The food is tasty, and the cocktails are good.
In traveling abroad for the first time, my friends and I
In traveling abroad for the first time, my friends and I were so excited to try the Wolseley. We had heard amazing things about the pancakes, and after a long flight to London, we were so ready to sit down and eat. However, in showing up to the restaurant, we were not greeted too kindly. We were told they could sit us immediately, but the table that we would sit at would be needed at another time for a later reservation, so we would have to be done by that time. We agreed without hesitation. Unfortunately, as time went on, it was becoming clear that nobody was going to serve us. We were placed in an extremely isolated area of the restaurant, and the waiting staff avoided looking at us- we tried flagging down staff, but that was extremely difficult as we were placed at a table alone on the second floor. The expectation of going to a restaurant is that you will be served- additionally, we figured someone would be prompt with us since they needed the table for another later party. It was extremely disappointing to be treated like that. It was an extremely nice establishment, but we didn't feel as though we were being respected as much as the other guests were. We understand that reservations are ideal, but we would've rather been turned away than treated like that. It wasn't a good foot to start our trip on.
An absolute 5 star and worth the wait.
The service was wonderful, the food delicious. Everything I wanted in breakfast. Enjoy a drink at the bar while you wait.

The Wolseley definitely lives up to its reputation! During a busy holiday week I called a day in advance and was told that regrettably there were no more tables left but I was welcome to walk in - which I did and I was seated immediately. The ambiance is majestic, the classic decor feels grand and oozes luxury. Combine that with the quick and attentive service and you have their recipe for success. The main attraction, the food, is delightful. The English Breakfast is a showcase of classic British cuisine with each element cooked to perfection: the crispy bacon, the fried eggs and black pudding balanced with tasty tomatoes and mushrooms. The tea, as expected, was outstanding. What caught me off guard, however, was the green juice - surprisingly good and a refreshing complement to the meal. Not something I expect on a traditional English menu. This is a must visit if you want a luxurious Full English! Recommended!
This was the most recommended place for afternoon tea from
This was the most recommended place for afternoon tea from our London locals that we know- and it certainly lived up to our expectations for the experience. The Wolseley is known for its afternoon tea and overall environment it eludes. We were greeted by a doorwoman who directed us to the hostess and we were promptly seated for our reservation. The service was quick and for tea was wonderful. Overall the sandwiches and biscuits were good, however, I was not necessarily a fan of the desserts. I will say they are very accommodating with allergies and that was very nice. Afternoon tea per person costs around 44.95 euros and it comes with a tea pot of tea with your choice and a "tower" with hand sandwiches, 3 biscuits, and a variety of pastries/desserts.
A superb experience.
Food and service was excellent. The ambiance also is outstanding.
Beautiful dining room.
Excellent and attentive service! Food was very good. They open until 12am. You can order brunch, a la cart or Prix fixe meals. Salmon Rillettes was delicious, Dorado was perfectly cook. The price is incredibly reasonable.
We had a lovely time there.
Best scone I ever had! And my personal favorite was the raspberry tart. We had a reservation but still end up waiting a bit. The manager came and apologize, and even gave us free short bread to take home!

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
