The dimmsum was cooked when ordered so it comes steaming hot. Wlthe shrimp chive dumplings, Har gau, shu mai, turnip cake and spare ribs with bean sauce were very tasty and fresh. We wish they had offered sauces like chili sauce, xo sauce, and mustard sauce. I wish they had the Taro balls. Wlthe staff were friendly and attentive. We were amazed that they were able to seat large families. There were only two of us and we got in right away.

How is this restaurant listed with only 2-$$? I think when the restaurant opened way back when, but if you look at the prices showing and compare them to photos of the menu 5 months ago this should be at least a $$$$ restaurant. The special Kona Abalone cost in menu is almost double the cost shown in photos. Yelp whose responsibility is it to verify things are up to par. I love yelp and hope what I see is somewhat truthful and kept up dated. Yes since Covid many of our restaurants are having cost difficulties, but so is the public. Sorry but I tend to look over more $$ restaurants than the higher end restaurants as money is harder to come by. I'm sure Tim Ho Wan is worth every penny and more but I have to watch my budget too. We are so lucky that Oahu has excellent dim sum restaurants at a slightly lower prices. One day I will be able to treat myself and dine in at their beautiful restaurant. Mahalo!

Very disappointed!!! Food is not good at all for the overpriced and limited menu, also poor service. It seems that Tim Ho Van restaurant chain is not consistent with their food preparation.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent dim sum.
Loved the spring roll and har gow. Delicious and excellent service. Would go back again.
Be the first to ReplyI love eating at the locations in Hong Kong unfortunately
I love eating at the locations in Hong Kong unfortunately the food here is not up to par at all. The famous baked BBQ pork buns are what they are known for at THW, however, the ones here are waaaaay too sweet! The taste is totally off. I'm not sure if this is the Hawaiian version but it's not good. Same with the beancurd rolls, the sauce is sweet. What gives? The siu mai dumplings are a lot smaller than in HK, like half the size. The good stuff were the custard lava sesame balls and the grilled eggplants with shrimp cake. But I was glad to try it as I know now you are just paying for the expensive Waikiki rent here. Service is good and I can hear the workers speaking Cantonese. It is located on the 3rd floor of the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center.
Be the first to ReplyIf you're staying in Waikiki with no car and have a craving
If you're staying in Waikiki with no car and have a craving for dim sum, then this place will certainly suit your needs. While it meets all the standards of a good dim sum place, it's not necessarily any better than other local favorites. I do like the snow-capped char siu bao, a light sugary flakey covering on the bao that's offered in maybe only 2 other places in Honolulu. However, these and pretty much all the other dishes are smaller than elsewhere but at Waikiki prices. I do enjoy their selection of teas especially their oolong tea. Pictured are their shrimp dumplings, which are decent (dainty also comes to mind) and noodles (I included a tea cup for size reference - this may be "family style", but more for a family of one?) Waitstaff are very nice, enthusiastic to taking pics of you & your friends/family. They all work well together bringing dishes out as they become ready and clear empty dishes in stride. Overall an enjoyable experience good food but expect to order a bit more and pay more because you want to stay in Waikiki!

Was hoping to try the Lunar New Year specials since the last time I came was two days before the specials started (the special started on 2/5), we came on 2/3 when the Royal Hawaii Center (where the restaurant is located) started hosting Lunar New Year events. That day (2/3) couple of the dishes were great but the rest was just okay. Which brings me to today. Was going to give it another try since today is the last day for Lunar New Year events at the Royal Hawaiian Center but come to find out they had already stopped having their specials. You would think it would make sense when people are coming for a Lunar New Year event that the Chinese restaurant would have something still yet.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a gem in the Royal Hawaiian shopping center.
We were unfamiliar with the center, so took the long way to find it, but it was worth the walk! We had garlic shrimp, siu mai, short ribs, and the pork buns - of course! All deliciously prepared and a perfect dinner for 2. My friend is a pork bun person and had just done a search to see what there was. She'd never been to Oahu and this was my first time back in many years. This was THE place for pork buns! We each could have eaten an order (3) but restrained ourselves! The bun is flaky and the pork delicious - so so good! That's saying something from 2 women born and raised in San Francisco with every Asian flavor on the planet available to us! Staff was helpful and friendly and we had to tell our friends about it!
Be the first to ReplyI love me some dim sum and this place had great dim sum.
And aside from the tasty food, the service was nice and friendly :)

Portions were good and service was good. I went on a week night and it wasn't as busy.
Be the first to ReplyI have been to Tim Ho wan before in NY and Cali.
So I had high expectations here knowing what I've had before. Definitely had a very different menu from the places that I have been to. We came on a Friday morning before opening and waited in line while taking a look at the menu and checking off what we wanted. This place is located on the third floor of the Royal Hawaiian mall. There is some outdoor seating available and it's very clean and modern. We ordered all the classics. But the Cha siu bao, turnip cake, sticky rice, sesame ball with custard. Everything tasted very clean, not too salty. I wouldn't say this was my best TIm Ho Wan experience. But it was good.

Tim Ho Wan have very good Dim Sum, even thought the varity is very limited. The place is new and clean ,the services is very good, everybody is very cooperate with each other, so the services is quick and pleasant. Will be back, I WILL rate it # 3 in Honolulu DimSum
Be the first to ReplyIt's a small place.
Seating out or in. Regular dim sum. Favorites: pork bun with crunchy shell, chicken feet not fried but very tender, and beef balls that were so soft. The service was great. Picture menu. Everything was steaming hot. It was enjoyable and not crowded and not noisy.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food.
Great service. They have the best pork buns I've ever had. My kids ate two bowls of the wonton noodle soup. I would definitely come here again.

Excellent dim sum, inexpensive, not crowded, by the beach, 'nuff said. Which it has more outdoor seating.

Service time was very fast for a small party, and they refilled water promptly. Very quick turn around from order to the food arriving. The har gau is very sticky and will pull apart on your chopsticks, but is well filled and well worth the slight price increase from other dim sun places in the area. The gyoza styled fried dumpling is much more vegetable heavy than you'd think at first glance, and the non-fried section of wrapper is also very sticky, so that seems to be somewhat a signature of the wrapping style here. It comes with a bright red spicy sauce, but I'm not the best with that, so I just used the table shoyu. It can feel a bit dry without a sauce. I couldn't stop eating them. The stickiness of the dimsum means it's best to come with family or other close contacts, as trying to divvy up the dumplings is tricky if trying to only touch your own piece with chopsticks. The shrimp and chive wrap is mostly shrimp, so the pan fried gyoza is actually the better "healthy" cheat in that it has feel-able vegetables. The rice wrap is NOT cut like at some locations, so expect it to be a little messy. The area is open air, so there are birds that come in. They didn't try to fly at the table, so your food should be safe, they're just underfoot. It can be distracting if you're wanting a date or other talk focused event rather than a more casual meal.At the price, it's better for a light lunch or snack as the focus is on appreciating flavor rather than portion size.Service slows down when paying, so it can be a good idea to request the check when you receive your last plate
Be the first to ReplyWe found this dim sum restaurant at the Royal Hawaiian Mall.
They serve delicious dim sum all day! I loved their char siu baked baos that is so light and fluffy. Their Mochi rice wrapped in leaves came out hot from the steamers with different morsels of Chinese lup cheorng and other delicious items. Their half moon dumplings were also excellent in very thin skin dough wrap with mushroom, veggie and pork. Service was outstanding! They brought out fresh plates half way through our lunch, too.It was certainly an enjoyable time sampling so many choices. Don't hesitate to go for a superb meal, you won't regret it!

Clean. Nice variety. And tasty. Have had dim sum in Hong Kong, and various China Towns in the US. This is comparable so not sure why people are posting poor reviews. Want a quick dim sum lunch in Honolulu? This is the place!
Be the first to ReplyIf you want authentic Hong Kong dim sum with high
If you want authentic Hong Kong dim sum with high standards, you gotta try this restaurant! This dim sum place setting apart from other dim sum places because certain dishes are extremely well-made. For example, you will have to try their famous baked char siu bao ๅ็ๅ ๏ผtheir amazing eggplants with shrimp balls ็ ้่ๅญ๏ผand also the chicken feet raised in abalone sauce ้ฎๆฑ็้ณณ็ชใLet me tell you what's up - the char Siu bao was baked to perfection with a slight sweetness on the crust, and their filling was flavorful with the right bao to filling ratio. Their eggplants were pan fried to perfection with lots of flavor with being too greasy, and it's just very pleasing to the eye, not mushed or piled on top of each other like a big mess. Their chicken feet are different from almost all dim sum places. They don't use the garlicky black bean orange sauce, but instead a brown abalone soy sauce based sauce with the perfect amount of braising so not to let the chicken feet expand so much. (although I do know that some prefer the regular style of chicken feet at dim sum places.) also we tried their $30 steamed codfish. Omg it's so good. I just wanna go on and on about how good this place is especially if you know dim sum you'll know Tim Ho wan. The service was great as well. The staff were very accommodating with our large party with kids one time. The food also came out at a decent pace. They also validate your parking ticket if you park at Royal Hawaiian center. There is a section where you can sit outside so you can get some fresh air. But the indoor dining is comfortable and spacious too. Good dim sum is not easy to find. You can find it here!
Be the first to ReplyI've been wanting to try this spot and alas, I happened to
I've been wanting to try this spot and alas, I happened to be in Waikiki and happened to be craving dim sum. I dragged along my partner who is a picky eater. Sunday lunch time, it wasn't very busy today thankfully. Ambiance:Very casual, I wasn't expecting this but I was pleasantly surprised. Live birds were flying into the restaurant, that's probably not okay but I didn't particularly have an issue with it. Service:Staff was nice, not too attentive but I wasn't expecting much. Food came out really quickly once we ordered. Food:Standard dim sum choices, definitely pricey for the serving size. I wanted a little bit of everything, I enjoyed 94% off the food, I could do without the beef balls I ordered but everything else was tasty and fresh. Bbq pork buns - these were amazing. If you come here and only eat one thing, let it be the bbq pork buns. Disclaimer - this is NOT a manapua, nor was this really a bun. These were essentially a savory delicious meat pie. The "bun" part was light, flaky and sweet and paired perfectly with the bbq pork "filling". The filling was tender and delicious. 1 order is 3 buns and nearly not enough, so we ordered more. This was everything I didn't know I needed in my life packaged into a perfect handheld pastry.
Be the first to ReplyWow!!! Honestly didn't expect much, dim sum in Waikiki?
Wow!!! Honestly didn't expect much, dim sum in Waikiki? Inside a shopping complex? Nothing quite adds up so we've never stopped by. One day we saw a YouTube video (I believe it's Bill and Lisa's Food Travel) talking about this place so we gave it a shot. Why did we not come sooner is the only question in my head. We ordered BBQ pork buns, sticky rice, and shumai. They were all phenomenal. Stunning. I need to come back, soon!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best Pan fried turnip & pan fried rice rolls
One of the best Pan fried turnip & pan fried rice rolls I've had. Pan fried turnip is my favorite dim sum dish, & I've tried a lot (several in Hong Kong & all over San Gabriel valley, Vegas, California) The turnip texture is slightly crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The flavor was delicious.

I've been to many dim sum restaurant and I think this place doesn't have a lot to offer and the fact that they charged me $1 extra for chili oil I'd say this place is just average

Very clean restaurant, the spicy wontons are delicious; however, the staff is a bit overbearing. They grabbed my can of Pepsi and refilled my glass without asking.Regardless of this, I was very excited for the rest of the food, especially my favorite, shumai. It was absolutely disgusting, I had to spit out the entire thing. The whole thing tasted of mushrooms, something not listed in the ingredients, and something I'm allergic to!The server insisted that it's only a small amount of mushroom, but it doesn't matter, and that's an outright lie, the taste was immense. Thankfully I spit it out before digesting any of it.The rest of my experience was marred and thus nothing lived up to my expectations. The lack of chili oil sauce was a major let down.Just go to Mei Sum Dim Sum instead for authentic dim sum.
