Tocaya Modern Mexican Scottsdale Reviews from The Last Year
I was very excited when I walked in and saw the ambience
I was very excited when I walked in and saw the ambience and the menu. Especially their $2 taco and half off tacos for Taco Tuesday deals Overall tasted good but was quite surprised that the meats were cold (2 types of chicken and salmon) that kinda threw me off Friendly staff and great ambience

My friend and I were visiting Phoenix & had just gotten off the plane. We're vegetarian and vegan & looked up those options and Tocaya popped up! Immediately we were intrigued because the food menu had a lot of options for us & the food looked amazing. Once we got there, we were greeted by Luis who was so nice!! I 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for really good Modern Mexican food!! I loved the ambiance of this place! Super cute with the succulents & way it was decorated!! And the food was absolutely amazing!! I got the vegan fajita bowl, vegan chips and queso, & the ginger hibiscus agua fresca. Soooo Good!! Still daydreaming about the food!! Can't wait to go back one day :)
Came to Arizona for a girls trip.
And after a hectic day of flying filled with delays and only eating airplane snacks, I went to Tocaya for an early dinner/late lunch and definitely was not disappointed. The restaurant is located in a nice area with tons to see and do (shops, close to old town). And the menu options were vast and I love how they offered both vegan and non-veg items, which was great to accommodate everyone's dietary preferences. The restaurant itself was super clean and cute; they had a giant window to see the food being made, which I thought was a nice touch. The staff were great and the food did not take too long. I really enjoyed the aqua Fresca and vegan queso. There were so many more options I wanted to try from the menu, so definitely will try to make a trip back before I leave.

Great food and healthy choices! I love their drinks! Pretty and clean vibes. I went to this restaurant several years ago and I came back again this year, they've definitely upgraded especially the cocktail bar. It's a good place to have a quick bite or even hangout and chill with friends. Good portion of food and good prices!

Love the burrito here! Service is good and plenty of seating area. It is conveniently located outside the mall, perfect place to go after shopping.

Really bad service! I ordered the pineapple margarita because it came with mezcal. When I got my drink it was a little weak, so I brought it to the bar and asked for another shot added to it. I saw the bartender pouring regular tequila in it, so I told her the drink that I ordered came with mezcal. She said it didn't, so I picked up a menu and pointed to the drink description where it lists the drink comes with mezcal while the others come with blanco. She again stated that even though it says it's on the menu, it doesn't come with mezcal? I was honestly shocked into silence and then she very rudely asked if I wanted to talk to a supervisor about it so I yes I would. He came over and said it was an error with the menu, but that he would make it for me with mezcal if I wanted, but that next time I should remember that it comes with blanco even though it says it comes with mezcal. Buddy, there won't be a next time! When the bartender brought the drink to my table she basically slammed in in front of me. I felt like I was being scolded for their mistake. Also, when we sat at a table outside not a single person came out to greet us so we opted for ordered through the QR code on the table. I made adjustments to my order and the dishes came out as is anyway. Anyway, way too much money for bland food bad service. We just wanted to do something nice for my grandmothers 80th birthday but I won't be going again. It sucks tipping before you get served and then being treated so poorly. And I've worked in food service so I always tip but I honestly wish we had just gone somewhere else for dinner. What bad attitudes.
Alright, so Tocaya is my go to.
I eat it a lot. But I finally felt called to leave a review after being disappointed more than a few times. I feel like over time it's kind of gone a tad downhill. The quality I noticed first. I again still eat their religiously but after getting a second and third burrito with mostly all rice, I felt like I needed to bring this to Tocayas attention and hope they remedy it. The food is inconsistent and you don't really know what you're going to get. I'll post a picture of my burrito which looks like a rice burrito but I swear there is supposed to be other fixings in it. I don't know if they're trying to save money but they skimp largely on the chicken in the burritos lately and veggies. I'm beginning to think chipotle is where it's at. Tocaya please get it together. Consistency and less stingy with protein etc.

I'm going to be fair and give a "good" rating because the food was still good. I went here yesterday and I did an order via the app for the Birria bowl, this comes with Birria, mexican rice (I opted for the cauliflower rice), queso fresco, smashed pinto beans ( I opted for no beans), flour tortilla and a side of house escabeche. My order was ready earlier than the time I selected, which was fine. The problem comes when AFTER I got home, I saw that my order was missing the queso fresco. This was such a disappointment because I live about 30 minutes away, so I couldn't just go back up there to ask for the missing fresco.
Started with the chips and guac.
Both absolutely awesome. Definitely recommend. For mains I had the chicken burrito and chicken quesadilla. All pretty great. Definitely would go back
cool vibe, food tastes good.
.. but got the $15 "protein bowl" and it came out with literally only maybe 2 tablespoons of shredded chicken in it. the only ingredient that costs any money. what the heck did I just pay for?? lame.
Great location, outdoor seating is available and great food
Great location, outdoor seating is available and great food choices. My brother happened to come across this spot and I'm glad that he did. The food was excellent, the servers that brought out our food were great as well. The lady taking our order was the reason for the 4 star and not a 5. Being the first person you encounter upon entering, mannerisms are important. With it being our first time here, we asked for food recommendations (what her favorite entree was), we asked portion size as well as a couple of other questions. She was very short in her answers and not helpful at all. She did not appear to want to be there and looked annoyed every time someone entered. Not the best look. Either way, we enjoyed the ambience and the food.

Rainy day in Scottsdale so decided to go to the Fashion Square mall. We got hungry and found Tocaya Modern Mexican. Be advised, the entrance to Tocaya is from the outside of the mall. Once we made it inside, the service was friendly, inside was bright, modern and clean. It was a very young, hipster crowd. You walk up the counter and order your food, they give you a number and then they bring your food to the table. They list out all their proteins and you choose to have it made into a bowl, tacos or burritos. We chose tacos with gluten free battered mahi mahi, tomatillo shrimp. We also ordered bowl of chicken tortilla soup and churro waffle bites. Food was good, but my mahi mahi was burned and over cooked. The star was the chicken tortilla soup. Love the clear broth and how filling it was.
Came with a friend that was visiting from out of town.
The ambiance is light and airy, clean with a full view of the kitchen as the cooks prepare your food. Was here on around 6:30 pm on a Friday and the place wasn't too crowded. You also have the option to sit outside. The non-alcoholic beverages were refreshing and tasty. My friend ordered one with basil and I opted for a hibiscus ginger drink. I forgot their names but highly recommend them. The guacamole is killer and is served with plantain chips. This is a must order! Chips and salsa were also flavorful and fresh tasting. My friend ordered a bowl and I opted for the tocaya salad with the fake chicken. Both of us were very happy with our orders and didn't even finish half of our entrees. With the drinks and chips and guacamole it was a very filling meal. It came to about 50 bucks for everything and it didn't feel like they skimped on the portion sizes. The only thing that wasn't so generous was the protein. They barely put any in either of our meals. Other than that, I would happily give 5 stars. Also, thanks Bella for taking our pictures outside! Staff is friendly and polite.
I love tocaya and the food is always amazing.
i usually order the taco sampler every time i go. today i ordered it again but i bit into my first taco and as i was chewing i felt a long hair in my mouth and sure enough, i pulled it out from my mouth. Nothing wrong with the food but that was pretty disgusting pulling it out of my mouth.
Lovely light & bright setting.
Great atmosphere for lunch! The strawberry basil agua fresca is very sweet but refreshing; more like a strawberry lemonade. The guacamole was simple and delicious-- love the pomegranate seeds. And the plantain chips were fresh, slightly warm, and had the perfect amount of crisp & saltiness. The quesadilla was pure comfort food-- warm and loaded with seasoned chicken and melty cheese. Great spot to take a lunch break when spending the day shopping at Fashion Square. Will definitely be back!

Good question. Currently the bidder will have to include the prepaid dinner price plus bid to secure the reservation. AT is currently working on an upcoming release where the prepaid amount and the bid amount are two separate transactions. Happy Bidding!
