Very good, curry is on point! It was a huge bowl so it was very filling. I'd try the other udon on the menu as there were so many different options!

Extremely fast lunch service and some pretty good lunch specials. Large portions of udon in huge bowls. Smaller cuts of fish used in their sashimi. If I worked in the immediate area this would be a weekly visit.
Be the first to ReplyCame to NYC with my nephew to visit the Harry Potter store.
Stopped at Breads Bakery for some Rye and spotted this place across the street. The Udon and broth are deeeelicious!!!! This ahi tuna rice bowl is what I had for lunch. The tuna was so fresh and melted in my mouth! I haven't had food this good since I was in Japan! The place itself is really cute and the service was fantastic! Will surely be back!

A solid udon place for a cold, rainy day! MASSIVE servings--all udon bowls were bigger than our heads. Lychee martini was also a hit. Can't complain!

Located in a central area, Tsurutonan is near Times Square, Rockefeller Center, etc. Earlier today, we walked in with a group of 7, and were immediately seated and handed menus. We received great service throughout the meal and left satisfied with our experience! Unfortunately, our food experience wasn't as great. I got the creamy truffle udon, and while it was delicious for the first few bites, it was extremely heavy and made it hard for me to enjoy the dish. Now, hear me out. I'm someone who enjoys cheesy, oily, and greasy foods on a regular basis... but this dish made me feel queasy and had me thinking I might throw up; I couldn't finish the dish. Now, the reason why I'm giving the place 2 stars though is because of two reasons. 1. The value of the meal lived up the its expectation. We were served huge portions, which we had hoped for with the hefty price tags. For my one udon bowl, I paid about $34 including tax and gratuity. 2. I tried some of my friends' meals, and they weren't too bad! The sizzling sukiyaki was definitely the best, although it wasn't the best udon I've ever had. Admittedly, I felt like I could make it at home. The Wagyu udon that my girlfriend had strongly tasted of mirin, or some kind of alcohol as if the broth hadn't been simmered enough, but she liked the taste... so to each their own! Overall, we were looking for a place that served hot bowls of soups on a cold, winter NY day, and we got what we asked for. Was it the best? No. Would I come again? Probably not. But if you're someone who likes to venture to new places (and pretty places!), try this place out! Maybe you'll like it more than me :)

It's a solid Japanese udon and sushi place in Midtown Will it be the most amazing udon you've ever had? Nope, especially if you've been to Japan and been to great udon places such as Raku here in NYC. But if you're craving for udon or sushi rolls in the middle of the week or in the weekend, and you do NOT have a reservation because it was a random unanticipated craving, Tsurutontan is the way to go. It's a large place, with upstairs/downstairs seating, so you can squeezed in without a reservation. Food is served quickly. Menu is generally reflective of NYC prices- a solid low to mid $20s for a standard bowl of udon. There is happy hour- so a better deal. There are different combinations/flavors of udon/sushi, so it's not entirely authentic. But you get to play around and experiment!
Be the first to ReplyThey have a happy hour I think that starts at 8p.
A little cheaper then. The Blue Fin Toro at $22 was a steal, 5 pieces.
Be the first to ReplyBroth is super flavorful and the place is huge.
Would come back to try other things on the menu.

Came here because good friend of mine told me about good AYCE spot here, and told me they stopped AYCE event months ago? But my friend came here for AYCE a month ago? but since we already here why don't we give it a try, they do offer a la carte. We ordered 2 spicy tuna roll and 2 spicy salmon roll as a starter, the sushi it self is alright except there is a big piece of cucumber 2/3 the size of sushi in a spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls instead of avocado like how it should be? For the meat part we ordered 2 trays per person and it came out like what shown in photo. I doubt it was 6 oz. per tray. We ended up paying almost $50 per person. The service should be better for what we paid for. No explanation on how to eat, which sauce should we eat with, how long should we cook all the meat. We ask for the soup refill and it took forever to get it, by the time they came for refill we already finish all the meat. Maybe that is why there are only 4 tables and a few ppl sit at the bar at 7 o'clock on Friday night.

While walking about midtown we stumbled upon Tsurotontan Udon Noodle which really stood out. Similar to Time Market with several food vendors. The only difference is that the food vendors served Southeast Asian food. Knowing that street vendors in Singapore are the only street vendors in the world with Michelin stars I had to try it out. There were so many options. Fried rice, boba tea, Asian themed burgers, all different types of noodles. For a guy who loves Asian food, I was in heaven. I ordered the Meat Lovers soup, which contained a lot of meat with a rich broth. I was very happy with my meal. Overall, it was a great experience. We were in a hurry to catch the parade which made this place even better due to the fact that we were in and out within 45 min.

This is one of my favorite udon spots! The bowls are bigger than your head, and the noodles are fresh made. This is a good spot for groups or to bring friends from out of town. There's a good lunch combo too.Price: $23 per bowl

Ok... I know other people have reviewed this place. It's all over the place. I get it. It's pricey. About $30 per person.... but this was our best meal in NYC.We were a party of 7. We were going to have trouble finding any place that would really sit us comfortably. Booked a reservation here after reading reviews, checking the food out, and seeing the pics of their dining space. Wowzas... I was surprised by how big the location was. Plenty of space. Not bumping into anyone. Was a nice change.Food was served in impressively large bowls. Sushi was priced ok and my son loved his two rolls. Vegetarian sister had no issue with any of her apps she ordered (Tofu, seaweed salad, and something else). The real winner though was my wife and I. For years, we've been looking for a curry udon that was reminiscent of one we'd had in Japan. I'm talking about 15-16 years... and this place came the closest. We had the Curry Udon w/American Wagyu beef, and it was DELICIOUS. If we had a fridge at the hotel, we would have taken some back with us. It was that good. The meat was tender and nearly melted in your mouth. The sauce was nice and thick, stuck to the udon really well, and just had that great taste.I'd definitely go back again, probably at lunch though to get those cheaper prices. Also - they add gratuity on to parties of 6 or more automatically, just as a note!

It was a hugeeee bowl! It was really impressive coming out just as a spectacle. Overall really good food. The noodles were extremely rich and the broth was really good. There are a lot of options including omakase and other udon flavors. They also have drinks and beers! It was also a very classy and modern place. Bathrooms are nice if anyone was wondering. And, service was standard and speedy.

This Tsurutontan location is very big with two floors and there is nice ambient lighting. Service was fine. The food is mixed depending on what you get. I got the beef sukiyaki udon and I wished there was more beef. There were only a few pieces of met and much more udon noodles that I couldn't even finish all the noodles sadly. The soup is quite sweet but that is to be expected due to the ingredients for sukiyaki broth being soy sauce, sugar and mirin. I tried my friends katsu curry udon and I liked that much more. Although Japanese curry is usually sweet, the curry was more savory than the sukiyaki udon I had and less sweet which I liked. The curry was also very creamy! For the cost however, I would definitely come here during their lunch hour specials instead of standard times and paying $27+ for an okay bowl of noodles.

I thought the environment walking in was great - it had a clean, modern feel. I had to ask for service a few times once seated, which although it was busy at lunchtime, was still a bit disappointing. I ordered the tri-color nigiri with the soup/salad. The soup was a bit meh as was the salad. I thought the sushi was decent however. The rice was well seasoned and the sushi seemed fresh. The presentation was good as well. I would come here again.

Literally everyone single dishes tastes good at least these 3! It's a gem quick and business casual place to have decent food with colleagues or friends. I love the interior design and the service is friendly and fast.

The food and server were great but the manager Jordi if that's even his real name need to be re-trained on how to work in hospitality service. When we came in we were told " no outside beverages" and I responded with " Is it ok if its empty?" So he just dismissively responds with " You can leave it here for now." I'm a fair guy so I didn't make an issue with his attitude and it was my girl's birthday dinner. So water under the bridge for now. This is where he shows his worst: We are looking for the belongings he said they would hold on to. So this guy Jordi (the same guy at the entrance) said "maybe someone took them?" I ask him " What do you mean?" So he rolls his eyes and starts to look for my belongings. He takes it out from the trash and hands it to me. No apology for his mess up and couldn't be bothered to offer to clean it before returning. He goes on his phone and starts scrolling through instagram like he just did something. My girl gives him an earful of how bad his service was and he completely disregards everything she is saying with the most condescending attitude. At one point he started to hide behind me while he was being told what he did. What sort of pathetic manchild can't own up to his mistakes and try to de-escalate a situation. His excuses were " I'm Thai" followed by "I'm human" and to top it off "I have 10 years of manager experience." What an idiot. Saying you're Thai is not an excuse for giving sub par service!!!??? I have co workers that are Thai and are very respectful people unlike this fool Jordi. Thanks for ruining my girl's birthday dinner

We came here after we found lines for a ramen place we wanted to go to and was limited in time because we had a show. I forgot that I don't enjoy their udon noodle soups because their soups are too sweet for my liking. It was hard to flag the waitresses down when I wanted to get some red pepper flakes. Kind of disappointed that it wasn't just available on the table. Additionally, my friend found a huge piece of egg shell in her udon and got a stomachache after eating it. They offered free ice cream or a drink when we pointed out the eggshell. Came out to approximately $30 per person for a meal we didn't enjoy.
Be the first to ReplyCame on a Monday afternoon during happy hour.
We got the onion salad, cucumber salad, and vegetable tempura udon. The onion salad was good with too much sauce but the cucumber salad could have used more. Udon came in a huge bowl but normal portion. Would be interested in trying a specialty udon next time. The decor and vibe was very trendy and upbeat.

Wanted to save a bad experience for fellow New Yorkers and/or tourists that do not want their NYC experience ruined instantly with unnecessary unprofessional behavior. We just had a great time at the American Girl Store celebrating a birthday. We didn't realize it was such a short walk and arrived a little early for our reservation for the private room. We were met with rude host/manager that reprimanded us for having 16 guests instead of 18 due to illness, stating that this was causing her issues. This made absolutely zero sense since they would be charging the dining fee of $500 regardless if we had 2 less people or not. How does 2 less settings cause her issues? We were not showing up with more people that would cause a burden to the kitchen. It wasn't even a busy Saturday afternoon. Normal restaurants that charge a $100 room fee would have the room ready for a big party and just walk the large party back to the empty room. But we had to stand and wait while they fixed the "issue". She rudely told us we had to step aside since we were 10 minutes early. We had to wait over 20 minutes with no explanation on what the issue was. We had kids and a pregnant friend with us so we were getting hungry. How does this establishment allow such a rude worker represent their business? We walked two doors down to Yama Ramen (60 W 48th Street). They happily seated our walk-in party of 16 right away with no attitude. Food was great and fast, with attentive staff. Rather give our business to a more deserving establishment.
Be the first to ReplyVery rude service.
Very rude manager yelling at guests. Not busy on a Saturday should be indicative of that. Don't go.
Be the first to ReplyWent for brunch with my buddies on a Saturday.
We were seated pretty quickly only because we went at opening time and we had a reservation. Yelp led me to this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised with the vibes. The prices are reasonable for such a nice-looking place and fresh noodles.

They offer buy one get one lunch special if you order from Grubhub. I ordered the wagyu beef sukiyaki, which ended up being $15/bowl. Expected a bit more udon noodle but the beef and mushroom variety was sufficient
Be the first to ReplyIt was a little disappointing.
I've visited this location and the location near Union square. Both times I got the sukiyaki, once with meat and once with tofu (after I became vegetarian). Both times the noodles were kinda soggy like they had been over cooked. I have to say the only option for vegetarians is the sukiyaki. They do not offer vegetable broth, which was honestly very surprising given this is a large chain restaurant :/ overall the experience fell flat and I probably won't return here. I think if you are looking for authentic udon, you should go to somewhere like Raku.
